00:00:52Hello there, it's a great pleasure to welcome you to this
00:00:56episode of navda can your health. This is the program where we
00:01:00bring you insightful information about NAFDAX's
00:01:03activities aimed at safegarding the health
00:01:05of the nation. My name is
00:01:08opejami. On today's episode of
00:01:11NAFDAC and your health, we will
00:01:14of present an
00:01:15of overview
00:01:15of the achievements of NAFdak across all sectors
00:01:19within the scope of its regulatory
00:01:21a perview.
00:01:22of We will be starting off with the impact
00:01:24of the 5 plus5 policy and the successes recorded in
00:01:28all areas of dark regulatory
00:01:31activities.
00:01:36One
00:01:36of the various policies of Nafdak under the leadership of Professor
00:01:40Mojisola Adeyeye is a 5 plus5
00:01:44policy that has significantly enhanced increase in
00:01:48local pharmaceutical production and the stakeholders in the
00:01:52industry have continued to commend
00:01:54professor for the initiative.
00:01:58Ackulates were once again. reigned on the Navdak DG for
00:02:02this development at the eighth edition
00:02:04of the Nigerian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Expo that took place
00:02:08in Lagas recently. Speaking at the conference, the
00:02:12Minister of State for Health, Federal Ministry of Health and Social
00:02:16of Welfare, Dr.
00:02:17in Isaak Salako, loaded the development that has occurred in
00:02:21the
00:02:21of local pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, commending
00:02:25professor Mujisola Adeyeyi for the
00:02:28initiative. first let me confirm
00:02:31that my presence here today is not only to
00:02:35endorse, it's also
00:02:37of to come out and appreciate what PG man is
00:02:40doing,
00:02:44as
00:02:45of we know, without
00:02:47production
00:02:49no country can really move forward,
00:02:53and so for us in the health sector, the
00:02:57manufacturing arm in the health sector, is very,
00:03:01very
00:03:02of important, of whatever reform that we do
00:03:06without this very important group of
00:03:10of players, we cannot make any progress
00:03:13and of course
00:03:15of over the last three and half four years this
00:03:18particular group has killed in very, very
00:03:22frontally to the reform agenda of
00:03:24presidentubu and you had it yourself being
00:03:28of realed out how have moved from about
00:03:32of 70/30 to almost 50/50 in terms
00:03:36of export and import or pharmaceutical products into
00:03:39Nigeria, how the
00:03:43pharmaceutical industry base has grown from about
00:03:46180 in 2023 to over
00:03:49200 in 2026, and
00:03:53how Nafdak has been consistent in
00:03:57maintaining our recognition. and
00:04:00evaluation by WHO and how we are moving in that trajectory
00:04:04to our maturity level f. speaking earlier, the
00:04:08Navdak director general, professor Mujisola Adeyeyi
00:04:12explained the strategies adopted by her administration
00:04:16in NAFDAQ to activate the idol capacity
00:04:20of the local pharmaceutical manufacturing
00:04:22industry. We did a
00:04:25survey, I believe 2018, late
00:04:292018. and we found out that most
00:04:32of the or the top 20 let's
00:04:35say imported products are
00:04:37also the top 20 products that are
00:04:42a manufactured locally,
00:04:44of at that point the idol capacity of
00:04:48many
00:04:50of manufacturers was about 50 to
00:04:5460%, meaning time when they don't use
00:04:57the equipment this was before the
00:05:00pandemic, another
00:05:04story that I'm going to tell is uh in
00:05:082020 or late 2019
00:05:11just... before the pandemic
00:05:15or at the beginning the pandemic,
00:05:19everybody was calling navd for
00:05:22vaccines, when are we going to get
00:05:25vaccines? it
00:05:27was a it was lot of
00:05:30pressure. i also remember as member
00:05:34of international coalition of medicine regulatory
00:05:37agencies (ICMR),
00:05:41we are meeting every... week or every two weeks
00:05:43and all regulatory agencies across the world will
00:05:47say, oh, not not all, many, we say, we have gotten our
00:05:51own vaccines, or we just got our vaccines,
00:05:55many these are from advanced countries, and
00:05:59they will say, moji, when are you going to get your
00:06:01vaccines? it was a
00:06:04shame, i have, i had no
00:06:06answer, our
00:06:08manufacturers were...
00:06:14not just for vaccines, but for all
00:06:17medicines, so that will be the second
00:06:21story, the third
00:06:24story is what we started
00:06:28in 2019,
00:06:315 + 5, as result the
00:06:35question, why are we importing what we can
00:06:39make? we started 5 plus 5. but nobody
00:06:43heard of us
00:06:46outside the regulatory and the manufacturing
00:06:50industry until
00:06:52presidentubu came up, the
00:06:56gains that we have attained from
00:07:00regulatory and industry were not
00:07:03brought to the
00:07:04surface. I
00:07:07remember many
00:07:10fora. in terms of
00:07:13how stretched our manufacturers have
00:07:16been, because the only thing they can, they don't
00:07:20import is water, and even that water has to be
00:07:24treated very
00:07:26well, our
00:07:29manufacturers are patriots,
00:07:32nigerian farmer manufacturers are
00:07:35patriots, because they could
00:07:38easily, they could easily have given up.
00:07:43and i was going around, let us give
00:07:46in, we don't make
00:07:48anything, let us give these
00:07:51manufacturers a
00:07:53break,
00:07:56until presidentubu came
00:07:59up with the executive
00:08:02order of
00:08:042024, but it's not that
00:08:08straight forward, we have two
00:08:11ministers. the senior minister, professor alipate
00:08:14and the minister of state that also bought
00:08:18into this rational that we
00:08:22need to give incentives. that is why the
00:08:25presidential initiative for unlocking value change came
00:08:29up. the chairman of pharmaceutical
00:08:33manufacturers group and manufacturers association
00:08:36of Nigeria, PMG Man, who was also the
00:08:40host the conference in his welcome address spoke
00:08:44about the mission the expo and how it has
00:08:47evolved over the years. i'm particularly
00:08:51proud for the progress we're making.
00:08:54today our membership comprises of over 200
00:08:58farmer and life science manufacturing companies
00:09:01working every day to close the gap for quality,

00:13:33young people. concentration of alcohol in saches is about
00:13:3743% and
00:13:38it is easily accessible to children because sashi alcohol

00:14:27for undereraged, let's say no to undererage consumption
00:14:31of alcohol, parents, teachers, religious leaders,
00:14:35communities at large, let's say no to undererad

00:15:07policies of Professor Mujisola
00:15:09adeeyay. Post market
