00:00:34in Nigerian politics, the backing of state governors can be a
00:00:38significant factor in shaping apart electural strategy, mobilizing
00:00:42its political structure and consolidating support across
00:00:45regions. The six APC
00:00:47of governors in the north central region have endorsed president and
00:00:51vice president Kashim Shatima for second term in 2027. The
00:00:55endsment brings Benwe Kogi Kwasarawa Niger and
00:00:58of Plato states into
00:00:59of a collective. of support for the president's re-election bid, but
00:01:03beyond the declaration of support, what political calculations
00:01:06underpin this decision, how does the endorsement feet into APC's broader
00:01:10strategy, and what does it tell us about the relationship between regional political
00:01:14interest and the president's ambition for second term, these are the
00:01:17issues we
00:01:19of examine of tonight on politics tonight, welcome and thank you very much for joining us, I'll be right
00:01:22back.
00:01:36of Thank you for staying with us, let me begin by saying
00:01:40the endorsement of uh President Bola T and Vice President
00:01:44Kashim Shetima by the sixth APC governors in the north central region is
00:01:47significant for more than one reason, first
00:01:50of it's demonstrates that the president has important political
00:01:53of allies within his party who are prepared to publicly associate
00:01:57themselves with this beat for second
00:01:59of term but from the endorsement itself, there are bigger questions about what it
00:02:02means for the APC, what are the north central uh
00:02:06of expect, what the north
00:02:07of central expects from the administration and how this political declaration
00:02:11will be received by ordinary nigerians, first you consider the
00:02:15issue of party
00:02:19of of unity, but let's to this report and i'll be right of back gardrain of APC faithful from
00:02:23across the north central states and the federal capital territory
00:02:27abuja united in their
00:02:29of support of for the rally
00:02:33provided a platform for party leaders and
00:02:36of of supporters to reaffirm the commitment to the president second term
00:02:39ambition. they are also mobilizing support for APC
00:02:43candidates at all levels in the 2027
00:02:46election. according to these governors, the end
00:02:50reflects their reserve to work together to secure victory for the president and
00:02:53the
00:02:54of party. the governor
00:02:58of state. second the
00:03:01motion
00:03:04that all the

00:03:16of

00:03:21of FCT for a
00:03:24man was actually
00:03:28improved. our oil
00:03:30production for less than 1 million to now
00:03:341.8 million barral per day, a
00:03:38man who has introduced nfund for
00:03:42of education, a man who has introduced all the infrastructure that you are

00:03:47of seeing, asula,
00:03:50ahmed for the second channel and i
00:03:55of saw second, the chairman
00:03:57of the progressive governors forum and govern of emo state. also assured
00:04:01that APC governors across the country would work collectively to
00:04:04secure the president reelection on behalf
00:04:07of the leadership of our great forum, I want to inform
00:04:10you also that 31 governors of
00:04:14APC are committed to
00:04:18reelecting president and make our
00:04:22party the strongest and greatest party in
00:04:26black and white africa, the secretary to the government
00:04:29of the federation
00:04:30of or Nigerians to reject what he described as the politics
00:04:33of the seat and on the people
00:04:35of the zone to rally behind President as the region's preferred
00:04:38presidential
00:04:40of candidates today as waju
00:04:43is expected to be on that throne for
00:04:47eight years in 2031
00:04:51of northerners of can float
00:04:52of over 1000 candidates to anybody from the
00:04:55north who is running for president today is not
00:04:59sincere. and reject him
00:05:01100%, don't accept him, mr. president has
00:05:05done what no president has done for not
00:05:08central, we will stand with him, we work with him.
00:05:13we vote for him from top to
00:05:16bottom we support the APC because of
00:05:19president bola. Nigeria's first
00:05:23lady, Senator described the rally as
00:05:26demonstration of unity, particularly among women whom she
00:05:30said had crucial role to play in mobilizing support for the
00:05:34president and other APC candidates in 2027. The great
00:05:37people of north central zone for we want you
00:05:41to take this. message home for a stronger
00:05:44economy, that this government is going to
00:05:48build stronger economy, safer
00:05:51communities, a greater Nigeria, so vote for
00:05:54continuity, vote for capacity, vote for
00:05:58prosperity, vote for the reelection of Mr.
00:06:02President and all the candidates, beyond the
00:06:05endorsement by the party regional leaders, the north central grass
00:06:08mobilization network play to take the campaign to the grass
00:06:13with a commitment to mobilizing support for the president reelection
00:06:16bid. Godwing agwam, TVC
00:06:20News, lafia. Thank you very much God for
00:06:24that report. So tonight, let's speak with Kings the Flow, commissioner for
00:06:27information states on this latest development. Mr.
00:06:31F, thank you very much for joining me on this on the program, what is
00:06:35this endorsement uh really mean?
00:06:37I mean, yes in Nigerian politics a presidential reelection campaign is
00:06:41not built. by the presidency alone, it requires the support of
00:06:44governors, law makers, party leaders, gratuit
00:06:48mobilizers and the like, so when six APC governors from benwei,
00:06:51kogi,wara, nasara, platu publicly endorse the presidents,
00:06:55what kind of message are they sending across? thank you
00:06:59very much for having me, and it's always a very great
00:07:02pleasure to speak on the reelection the
00:07:06best president in the history of nigeria
00:07:08president means what is
00:07:13in Latvia on Saturday, what it means is very big
00:07:17statement from the great people the North Central
00:07:21to appreciate what Mr. President has been able to
00:07:24do, and you can count on the governors, you could see the governors were
00:07:28there, all them passing vote of confidence, and the chairman the
00:07:32progressive governor from the fatigable,
00:07:35governors of declaring on behalf of all the
00:07:39governors, the support the 31 governors the see for
00:07:43the president, what i means is that the governors are with their
00:07:47people, the people the north central have never had it so
00:07:50good. in terms of infrastructure, you could see
00:07:54what mr. president has been able to do
00:07:56in the north central, the road, the corridor from abuja
00:08:00to lokoja to kene to bein that was considered
00:08:04non-viable in the past is now viable, the president is fixing it
00:08:08already with concrete engineering technology to ensure that
00:08:11that place becomes very beautiful road, it's ongoing as
00:08:15we speak, if you look also in Kogi State, you
00:08:19talk about the Kaba, road is receiving
00:08:23attention as we speak, work is ongoing there, if you look at
00:08:27the akuanga just section the
00:08:30700 kms that is going to maiduri through gombe bauchi like
00:08:34that, 125 km from akuanga uh
00:08:38to js has also been flagged off, lot of this is going on
00:08:42in the north central, as we speak, we are talking about having a
00:08:46$250 million dollar lithium mining and
00:08:50processing project in the north central, this is unprecedented in the
00:08:53history of Nigeria, and you can also go to talk
00:08:57about uh what the creation the north
00:09:00central development commission, no president in the past
00:09:04thought about giving north central an identity until
00:09:07president came, he has given us an identity,
00:09:11he has brought the development closer to our people and the people are now
00:09:15feeling the impact of his governance. are you going to talk about the
00:09:18revenue expansion that has gone to the subnationals because
00:09:22of his lofty policies that is enabling many people
00:09:26who are complaining now about this subsidy of a
00:09:30thing, they they do not understand what we went
00:09:34through before now, states were struggling to pay
00:09:37salaries, many governors were scandalized for not paying
00:09:41salaries, but they did not find out the fact that what was coming from
00:09:45the federation account and what they were generating were not even enough to
00:09:49pay salaries. now states could pay salaries, state could
00:09:53execute loadable projects that have direct impact
00:09:57on the people. is it the nil fund that the children of
00:10:00Nigeria, including those the North Central are benefiting from,
00:10:04you can go on and on and on. the north
00:10:07central in 2027 will make
00:10:11very, very... very solid statement, we make very
00:10:15loud statement to Nigeria, to the world that we are
00:10:19grateful and that we want what the president is doing to continue
00:10:23beyond 2027. All right. Yes, you say the governors are with your
00:10:26people, but you know there's an important distinction here, Mr.
00:10:30Fow, and endorsement is a political statement, not an
00:10:34election result. I mean, this just tells us where the governor stand, but it
00:10:37does not, you automatically tell us where every member the party or every
00:10:41voter in your state stands, uh, the real test will be
00:10:45whether this political alignment can be translated
00:10:48into an elective campaign that persuades voters,
00:10:52Nigerians to support the president, am I correct or? so is the real test
00:10:56about how united your party is across the
00:10:59region?
00:11:01the APC is very united, you lot of people were talking about
00:11:04implion when a party gets um as strong as
00:11:08APC is today,
00:11:10you know, but what we are witnessing NPC is that
00:11:13unity of purpose. you could see all of our leaders, you could see the national chairman, you
00:11:17could see all of our governance uh coming together for a common
00:11:21purpose. you could see all the stakeholders within the APC. coming
00:11:25together for a common purpose. the statement you saw, what you
00:11:29saw in Latvia is a statement
00:11:33from the north central people, it's it's not just even about the governors
00:11:36alone. you could see how enthusiastic the people were, you could
00:11:40see how grateful the people were, you could see how excited they
00:11:44were. so even today in Kogi state, the
00:11:48pbat movement, you could see the rally, you could see the people, so it is
00:11:52all over the north central uh that you have. this kind
00:11:56of um mammot support for Mr. President,
00:11:59so now when you talk about it cascading to the grass road,
00:12:03this is very simple thing, we have talked about
00:12:05nelfond, nelfond
00:12:08is masterpiece, it is
00:12:12master stroke, and you see the children the
00:12:15poor who could not go to
00:12:19school because they could not afford it, now can go to
00:12:22school, now so... subsidy was
00:12:26a scam, it was the scam that the rich was
00:12:30using to siphon the resources the country, now it has
00:12:34been stopped and now
00:12:36the the poor are benefiting from it, is it about the road that the people are
00:12:40benefiting from? is it about the primary healthcare
00:12:44centers across the country? i can talk about the ones
00:12:47in over 200 ongoing with staff
00:12:50quarters, with facilities, with water powered by solar, not even
00:12:55depending on the national greek, this is going to the
00:12:58grassroots and when the president mets with
00:13:02the stakeholders during the neck meeting, he said that, i have done my
00:13:06own, i have been able to get lot of resources across
00:13:09to the states, it is your turn to do your own, by allowing it to
00:13:13reach the grassroot, and now it is reaching the grassroot, the
00:13:17grassrooters, the grassroot people the north central will
00:13:21ensure that mr. president gets nothing less than 95%, forget the...
00:13:25the opponent,
00:13:28I'm talking, I'm talking about the opponent opponents, Mr. F. what message does this send
00:13:32to other presidential contenders? I mean, alubakar for
00:13:36instance, is the most popular northers, slogging it out or about to slog
00:13:40it out again with President Timbu, so if article tells
00:13:43nothing else, I understand your region, I'm your son and I've been part of
00:13:47government before, what is your answer to that
00:13:50argument? thank you very much, the
00:13:53the the argument of what it say, i think the
00:13:57opponents, those that are contending with
00:14:00president, after watching the rally
00:14:04in Lafia on Saturday, after seeing what happened in
00:14:07Lokodia today, I think they should begin to give
00:14:11up, you know, Nigeria is very, um,
00:14:15Nigeria is very, it's a very
00:14:18delicate, contraption, let me put it that way,
00:14:21politically, there is arrangements.
00:14:25the south and the north, the north
00:14:29will do eight years, it will come back to the south, the south we
00:14:33also do eight years, and now what
00:14:37is going to stop a performing president from doing his eight years,
00:14:41so these opponents that we are talking about,
00:14:43you know, what they are doing is campaign of calumny, trying to get us
00:14:47angry, disrespecting Mr. President, saying all sort of
00:14:50things, but what we are doing is to work with the grassroot
00:14:54people, who will deliver the votes in January, and come
00:14:58January, after that election, I will come back to this studio and I will
00:15:02remind you what I told you that the north central would
00:15:05deliver massively to president. All
00:15:09right, and let's also um examine the question of
00:15:13continuity, because I mean just as you said earlier, one the consequences
00:15:17the president's reforms that doesn't get enough public
00:15:21attention is that states now have more revenue at the...
00:15:25sposar: so if the argument is um for this reforms is
00:15:28ultimately about changing lives, people's lives, mr. f, what should i
00:15:32just be looking for at the state level between now and 2027 to know
00:15:36that you? "all of this increased revenue is actually making a
00:15:39difference. I do not agree that we are not
00:15:43talking enough about it. um, in fact, what
00:15:47is coming out the resources, those things are doing the
00:15:51talking? well, we do not have to come to the
00:15:54television station to
00:15:56say, oh, we've gotten lot of money, and this, no, the
00:15:59people are saying it. let tell you,
00:16:032027 is going to be the most consequential
00:16:06political..." year in the history of Nigeria and Nigerians
00:16:10would speak, Nigerians would speak to the issue of performance,
00:16:14Nigerians would speak to the issue of a president
00:16:18who deared to to do the reforms that others were
00:16:21afraid of because of political correctness. Now let's look at
00:16:25the effects in cogistate for instance, I just
00:16:29told you over 200 primary healthcare centers are
00:16:33being removed and upgraded so that some the
00:16:36simple things.
00:16:37you do you take to the general hospital, you can now do it
00:16:40in your villages, they don't have to depend on the national
00:16:43grid, is going with water, is going with solar
00:16:47power, is going with all the facilities that is needed in all of those
00:16:51primary healthcare centers, they were not seen all these things
00:16:54before, now they are seen it, because the reforms is bringing
00:16:58more resources to the people, is it about the roads that have
00:17:02been done, is it about the schools, is it about all other facilities that have been
00:17:05provided, the people are saying? different, they will say that salary is a
00:17:09given, salary is very simple thing, yeah, it is an entitlement the
00:17:13worker to be paid, but where the states able to
00:17:17pay, more than 25 states could not pay salaries
00:17:21until came with his reforms that
00:17:25are free the resources that were being stolen through this
00:17:28through the the the the f subsidy regime,
00:17:32now the people could benefit from it, when you pay salary to a worker, the rural
00:17:36economy the man selling y, the woman selling
00:17:40iru, the woman selling magi will be able to sell, so you are boosting the rural
00:17:44economy, that is what, that is what paying
00:17:47salaries does to the rural economy, and states are able
00:17:51to pay now, states are able to execute projects that touch the grass people
00:17:55and the people directly, states are giving bry, people are
00:17:58benefiting and nigerians are rejoicing and in january, it is
00:18:02not going to be about their propaganda, it's going to be about the fact about a
00:18:06man. and we be reelected all right, I'm talking about Kugi States, just
00:18:10before I came on air, I saw that um the states just inaugurated
00:18:14its pbat dot door uh state executives, I wonder
00:18:18what difference this would make uh compared to other APC local
00:18:22structures, thank you very much, you could see
00:18:25that the peop door to door movement is done
00:18:29by high chief it's the convener high
00:18:33chief uh government popularly campulu and you
00:18:37has been able to move around the state and to inaugurate the to
00:18:41galvanize support, you could see my governor there
00:18:44jumping up and a friend called me and said energy choke, people are
00:18:48excited, people are ready, people are ready to go
00:18:52to ensure that uh uh president b is
00:18:55reelected,
00:18:56what is the group going to do? we are all involved in the activities the group
00:19:00and uh you know we are going to work with all the support groups, we have so many
00:19:04support groups, nigerans are excited, lot of support groups as... bringing
00:19:08up to drum support for Mr. President, and we can assure you
00:19:11that this group is going to work with all the other support groups from
00:19:15a synergy that will deliver presidentubu in
00:19:192027. All right, let's go back to the reforms quickly, Mr.
00:19:23F. because I mean one thing we must
00:19:26understand is that you
00:19:28know the reforms of this administration are already being discussed
00:19:31extensively uh for young Nigerians and I'm very particular
00:19:35about this because I know the president is also very... very particular about this, the country has
00:19:39very entrepreneurial youth population and in the last three years
00:19:43i've seen the way Mr. President is so particularly about how
00:19:46you know these great demographic strength becomes an engine of production rather than
00:19:50source of despair, those are his words to be very specific, and it's talked
00:19:54about talent, it's talked about energy and ambition among young
00:19:58Nigerians, yes we're not where we used to be, but some young
00:20:01businesses are still struggling with financing, and they're still struggling with logistics
00:20:05and access to market. which these constraints is this
00:20:09administration tackling most aggressively?
00:20:13thank you very much. i think the issue of engaging the youth
00:20:16population the
00:20:17of country, the youth is the most is
00:20:21the is the most cherished resource of of any country with the energy, with the
00:20:24intellect, with with the dynamism with which they
00:20:28could redefine and galbanize the economy to
00:20:32growth. what the present administration is doing is to
00:20:36ensure that our youth. are empower, I think we are not
00:20:39talking about this enough, there are a lot of schemes that are
00:20:43empowering young entrepreneurs a federal level,
00:20:47also a state level, I can tell... you that because the
00:20:51improved revenue to kogi state for instance, we've been able to train
00:20:55a lot of our young people,
00:20:57you know what the governor said during the
00:21:01commissioning of a company yesterday is
00:21:05that he is building c state in which the
00:21:09private sector we employ more people than the public sector, that
00:21:13is how to drive growth, and that
00:21:15is what we are doing in cogistate, we are training youth, we are not just training
00:21:19them, with them, we have registered their
00:21:23companies for them in CAC, we have bought kits for them,
00:21:26and we have set them up to be able to start their businesses, when you do
00:21:30this, you are galvanizing the economy. Kogi would not have been able
00:21:34to do this five years ago because the
00:21:38kind of very small resources coming to the state, but today we
00:21:42can do that. tens of our youths
00:21:45are are currently in Abuja learning how to to make
00:21:49jeweleries. "you know the these people are potential millionaires in
00:21:52future, we are putting, we are giving them accommodation, we are giving them allowances, we
00:21:56are paying for their training and we are going to set them up when they are done, that
00:22:00is what is happening across board, most states,
00:22:04especially APC states, because we have a platform through
00:22:07which we look at this together, most apc states are doing
00:22:11this to be able to get lot of our young people,
00:22:14fighting criminality is not through guns alone, we have
00:22:18to be able empower the..." and take them
00:22:21off, the the pool through which
00:22:24criminal recruit system will be cutil, so we
00:22:28are doing lot across the APC states and government is doing lot empower
00:22:32the youths and empower the women, develop entrepreneurship and you could see that the
00:22:36private sector is developing, you could see the report that just came the
00:22:40macroeconomy of our country is improving, that is what they don't
00:22:43want to know, that's what we keep telling them, but quickly mr. you now the president has
00:22:47argued that some the difficult being implemented
00:22:51today are necessary to correct structural problems that have
00:22:54accumulated over decades, where should the line be drawn
00:22:58between the challenges this administration has created or
00:23:01failed to resolve and those it inherited from successive
00:23:05governments? i thank you very much, you could see
00:23:08that the federal government, see what
00:23:12our economy could be liken to a
00:23:15cancer, and you going through
00:23:18kemo... could be very
00:23:22traumatic thing, but that is one the ways
00:23:26through which you could reduce the pains that cancer
00:23:30patients go through. now he has done the
00:23:34reforms, yes, the reforms will bring certain
00:23:37challenges and and difficulty. yes, lot of things are
00:23:41also being done to cousion this effect. that is
00:23:45why you could see that Nelfon came into being, you could
00:23:49see that, we are working on making transportation cheap, you
00:23:52could even when in the olden days where they use chloroquin for
00:23:56malaria patients, they give them puritin so that it will cushion
00:24:00the effect of that chloroquin, the federal government has been given the
00:24:03puritin because we know that this reforms in the next
00:24:07couple of years is going to rebound nigeria to her glory, but
00:24:11before then we the federal government and the
00:24:14subnationals are putting in place measures to cushion this
00:24:18effect, for instance in stage, you could say
00:24:21that education is now free and
00:24:25compulsory from primary school to secondary school, even
00:24:28examination fees, the federal, the state government is the one pay, and when you get to the
00:24:32high institution, we are also paying bry, granting scholarship is to
00:24:36pushing the effect of all of this, it is going to get to a time
00:24:40that our economy will be strong enough in such
00:24:44a way that most the things that the state governments are doing,
00:24:47private sector, will be able to be able to take all of
00:24:51those things and be able to collaborate with government
00:24:55to be able to deliver all of this, so we understand the pains, as
00:24:59a party, everything to pushing
00:25:03the pains and talking about pains, mr. f quickly before i let you go,
00:25:07before now there's been this conversation about alleged
00:25:10marginalization, mean for decades some noseners have complained
00:25:13about marginalization and infrastructure
00:25:17neglects, now you have an administration spending billions
00:25:21on major northern corridors and connectivity, is it fair
00:25:24uh to president for the same region to receive these investments and still
00:25:28maintain that the federal government does not care about
00:25:31enough? i do not think so,
00:25:35you know, before now we used to talk about a monolithic north,
00:25:39but now we are getting our identity, there is not
00:25:43west, there is not east, there is not central,
00:25:45president came, he realized that not central.
00:25:51was only useful when it comes to politics, when it comes
00:25:55to other things, they would marginalize and neglect the north
00:25:58central, now everybody is having a sense of belonging, we now..." have our
00:26:02own development commission, we are having a lot of projects that are going on, I've told
00:26:06you about it, just the akuanga to just is 125 kilometers,
00:26:10it has been flagged off, the entire length of that is about
00:26:14700 kilometers going through Bochi
00:26:17to Maiduri, now apart from that
00:26:21look at investment in security, you could say that in the northeast
00:26:25and northwest significantly security has improved,
00:26:29in the north central the the president conf' fted it
00:26:33head on in Kogi, wara, Niger and all of other not central
00:26:37states, we could see security, we could see development, we could see a
00:26:41sense of belonging, so we are not, we are northerners, we
00:26:44agree, we are northerners, we are now saying as northerners that we
00:26:48are not marginalized, we've never seen a president that
00:26:52has patronized that has developed the not as much as
00:26:55president, all right, thank you so much for finding time to
00:26:59join us on the program tonight, kingsly fires commissioner for information
00:27:03cogi states, thank you so much for your time, we'll continue to have this conversation ahead of
