00:02:01Pegasus under the Loop, the public part of the Sejm Investigative
00:02:04Commission's report saw the light of day. It shows that
00:02:08the software was used during the Law and Justice government
00:02:12without the required accreditation, and the materials collected
00:02:15with its use were at the disposal
00:02:18of the Israeli manufacturer. As emphasized by the chairwoman of the commission, Magdalena
00:02:22Sroka, the state was treated in this matter like
00:02:25a private manor. We were told, ladies
00:02:29and gentlemen, that Pegasus is supposed to fight
00:02:32spies and terrorists. The commission found
00:02:36that this was a myth, a myth repeated
00:02:39by politicians of the then government. Firstly, the system could
00:02:42not operate against numbers registered in
00:02:46Russia, China, North Korea,
00:02:50Israel, or Belarus. The agent
00:02:52self-destructed. The targets were
00:02:56politicians of the then government.
00:03:00And what else could we hear today from the Sejm Investigative
00:03:03Commission on Pegasus? Our reporter
00:03:07Rafał Mirzejewski listened in. Rafał, what else did
00:03:10the commission reveal? First of all, as the members
00:03:14of the Pegasus commission,
00:03:16is, firstly, how which deliberated publicly for over
00:03:19three hours, said, we learned
00:03:22the details of the agreement concluded during the Law
00:03:25and Justice government between Polish special
00:03:28services and the Israeli company NSO,
00:03:31which was de facto created by
00:03:34former representatives of Israeli services,
00:03:38and currently, and also during the Law and Justice government,
00:03:41operated under the patronage
00:03:44of the Israeli Ministry of National
00:03:47Defense. What caused the most
00:03:50emotion, what primarily emerged in this
00:03:54public part of the report, is what MP Magdalena Sroka just said,
00:03:58namely... that the agreement for the purchase
00:04:02of the Pegasus system contained an annex,
00:04:05a certain paragraph, in which both sides agreed
00:04:09that the Pegasus system
00:04:12cannot be used
00:04:15against the numbers registered
00:04:17citizens of countries such as the Russian Federation,
00:04:21China, Belarus, Israel,
00:04:24and the representatives of the commission who presented today
00:04:28these... assumptions of their report asked, well,
00:04:32then who was supposed to be surveilled
00:04:36according to this law, if not people from these
00:04:39countries, who, after all, like the Russian Federation, like China or North
00:04:43Korea, could pose a real threat to
00:04:46the security of our country? Well, but according to
00:04:50the regulations and according to such literal
00:04:53provisions of the agreement concluded then
00:04:56by the services subordinate to Law and Justice...
00:05:12that is, the Israeli side had a monopoly on
00:05:16managing this data, meaning that in practice, it looked like this:
00:05:20Polish services spent tens of millions of zlotys, nearly
00:05:2360 million zlotys,
00:05:25on surveilling mainly Poles, mainly Polish
00:05:29citizens. When it came down to it, when the Israeli
00:05:33side collected these materials, it turns out,
00:05:37as the MPs revealed today, that the CBA didn't even have
00:05:40passwords to some systems.
00:05:43That's why a larger part of
00:05:46the materials collected through illegal surveillance
00:05:49was stored on servers in Israel, and the Polish
00:05:53side, even though it spent tens of millions
00:05:56of zlotys on buying this system, paradoxically did not
00:06:00have access to all the collected
00:06:03materials. In this way, we effectively lost
00:06:07our sovereignty, as the MPs sitting on this commission
00:06:10said today, presenting the public part
00:06:14of the report. But this publication
00:06:18also ended with the submission
00:06:21of a total of 11 notifications to the prosecutor's office
00:06:24against 10 people. This group includes, among
00:06:27others, Zbigniew Ziobro, and Michał
00:06:30Woś, who was then Deputy Minister
00:06:34of Justice in the ministry headed by Zbigniew Ziobro.
00:06:38Also included are the heads of
00:06:41special services and administration. And Justice, but that's not all, because in this
00:06:44group, and this is also new information, there were
00:06:47also people who were at the head and were supposed
00:06:51to coordinate special services, namely
00:06:54Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik. These politicians
00:06:58were supposed to supervise and control special
00:07:01services, and how they did it, well, today, in 700
00:07:04pages, through a three-hour presentation,
00:07:08the MPs sitting on the Sejm commission presented
00:07:11it. on
00:07:14Pegasus. The next, third issue, which was
00:07:17very much discussed in the parliamentary corridors today,
00:07:20is the breaking down, as it were, of the arguments of either Law and
00:07:24Justice politicians or officials operating at that time
00:07:28within the special services. The argument was usually: well,
00:07:31yes, we used Pegasus, but the courts gave
00:07:34their consent and green light to it. And as
00:07:37the representatives of the parliamentary commission
00:07:40said today, many times... there were hundreds of such
00:07:44cases, and judges also testified under oath,
00:07:47judges who ultimately gave
00:07:51the green light to such surveillance were misled by the applicant,
00:07:55because the document that
00:07:58was submitted to the court
00:08:02was a request for operational control. The judge
00:08:05who ultimately signed such a request had absolutely no
00:08:09knowledge that it concerned total surveillance. He didn't even
00:08:12know that such a thing as Pegasus existed. Now
00:08:15the MPs are discussing the non-public part
00:08:19of this report among themselves. As we hear, this report
00:08:23is to be disclosed in November in the plenary hall in the Sejm,
00:08:26and then it will be up to the prosecutor's
00:08:29office.
00:08:31Rafał Mirzejewski spoke about these many aspects of this report.
00:08:34Rafał, thank you very much. And what else
00:08:38does this report concern? You will be able to hear about that today
00:08:42in the program "Question of the Day," because the guest of the program
00:08:45will be Magdalena Sroka, chairwoman of the Sejm Investigative
00:08:49Commission on Gazusa. Judge Maria Turek will consider
00:08:53the prosecutor's complaint against the safe conduct letter for Marcin
00:08:56Romanowski. Today, in the Court of Appeal in Warsaw,
00:09:00a draw was held. The date for considering the complaint
00:09:04has not yet been set. The parties to the proceedings have the right to
00:09:08request the exclusion of the chosen judge. Romanowski's
00:09:10lawyer, Bartosz Lewandowski, declared an appeal
00:09:14against the decision, because, as he pointed out, the Court of
00:09:17Appeal omitted 12 judges of the complaint and application section in the draw,
00:09:21so-called neo-judges. The final decision to issue
00:09:24a safe conduct letter will mean that Marcin Romanowski can return
00:09:28to Poland and stand trial while free, meaning that during
00:09:31the proceedings he will remain at
00:09:34liberty.
00:09:38Media accusations against former Deputy Minister of Agriculture Michał
00:09:41Kołodziejczak are under the scrutiny of the District Prosecutor's Office
00:09:44in Warsaw. A former colleague accused
00:09:47the politician of sexual exploitation and administering
00:09:50drugs.
00:09:53The statement reads: "In connection with media reports concerning
00:09:56the conduct of MP Michał Kołodziejczak, the District
00:09:59Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw today officially registered materials
00:10:03and initiated preliminary proceedings regarding forcing specific conduct
00:10:06and administering
00:10:08narcotic drugs."
00:10:14Tension on the Internet, the number of dangerous behaviors online
00:10:17has clearly dropped, as stated by Prime Minister Donald Tusk during
00:10:21a briefing with ministers and heads of services, the head of government.
00:11:01So far, our actions and probably time have led to the reduction of online tension and risky
00:11:05situations. By risky, I mean
00:11:09some more or less dangerous pranks
00:11:12online, announcements of some actions. This does not change
00:11:16the fact that another 18 people, Mr. Commander, were probably
00:11:19also arrested and investigated
00:11:22today. The Prime Minister said:
00:11:34Klaudia, what else could we hear during this important
00:11:37meeting?
00:11:41Good morning, the situation has indeed calmed down, but the
00:11:44intensive work of the services is still ongoing. The services are working
00:11:48on many fronts. They are checking areas
00:11:51near schools, not far from schools, and also going inside, conducting
00:11:55preventive and educational activities. Well, these
00:11:58information was conveyed to me by Minister Marcin
00:12:01Kierwiński, that the services' work is to
00:12:05be continued, even though the situation is already better
00:12:08than it was over the weekend or before
00:12:12the weekend. I know that about 2,000
00:12:14police officers are involved
00:12:17in these activities. So far, about 80,000
00:12:20facilities have already been checked. The minister
00:12:23said that social moods have also changed
00:12:27over the past few days. I'm talking primarily
00:12:31about teachers, school principals,
00:12:34but also about students, who are also
00:12:38calmer now. The Minister
00:12:41of Health also took part in this meeting, who
00:12:44said that the helplines that are
00:12:47intended for children, here I am talking about helpline 116,
00:12:51111, a helpline for children and young people
00:12:55are available, but there is also a helpline for
00:12:58adults, and it is available for discussions
00:13:02about child safety, number 800 100
00:13:06100, this is extremely important, because the work on these numbers
00:13:09is also more intensive now, the demand is obviously
00:13:13much, much greater. Prime Minister
00:13:15Donald Tusk also said
00:13:19that many leaders of countries
00:13:22from all over Europe sent expressions of
00:13:25solidarity to Poland in connection with this
00:13:29difficult situation that we faced in recent
00:13:32days. It is worth noting that such situations
00:13:35occurred earlier in the United States, and now they are beginning to appear
00:13:39not only in Poland, but also in other European countries.
00:13:43That's what Klaudia Aramowicz
00:13:45Zielińska said.
00:13:48Police patrols reappeared in schools across Poland today.
00:13:51Officers are responding to brutal attacks with knives and
00:13:55threats of further incidents appearing on the internet.
00:13:58About what exactly the police from Szczecin were checking,
00:14:02Izabela Kostraś. Checks are carried out at school
00:14:06and outside, and will be carried out until the
00:14:09lessons are finished. These checks do
00:14:12not mean that police officers will check and inspect backpacks
00:14:16or bags that students bring into school. The main point
00:14:20is simply for a police officer to be on site to
00:14:23react if a dangerous situation occurs,
00:14:26but of course they can inspect a backpack if
00:14:30they deem that a student's behavior raises any concern.
00:14:34They can also inspect people who are somewhere around
00:14:37the school if their behavior also raises concern on the part
00:14:41of police officers. These checks, these increased
00:14:44checks, will be in effect until further notice, but police officers
00:14:47are not only checking schools, they are also combing the Internet,
00:14:50primarily social media and forums, and paying attention,
00:14:54especially to... people who are fascinated by computer games,
00:14:58or who are fascinated by aggression, violence, but also
00:15:01paying attention to those people who post entries on social media
00:15:05that incite aggression. But that's still not the end,
00:15:08because so-called talks will also be organized in schools
00:15:12with the participation of police officers, who will talk about
00:15:16online safety, and also about safety in real life, but
00:15:19will also draw attention to the legal consequences of posts
00:15:22that appear on social media if
00:15:26they incite aggression or violence, so that
00:15:29young people know that even a joke can end
00:15:33in serious
00:15:33legal consequences.
00:15:37Ban. Social media for children and teenagers. On air,
00:15:40we are discussing this topic today: Should Poland follow the example
00:15:44of other European countries and introduce regulations that
00:15:47will improve the mental well-being of the youngest? Today, we also asked
00:15:51you. I don't know if up to 16 years old,
00:15:54certainly up to 12 is absolutely fine.
00:15:57I think a 16-year-old is already able
00:16:01to filter content so that it is appropriate for
00:16:04them. Now, in these media, well, there are
00:16:08some things that are so destructive,
00:16:11I think, that they should
00:16:14be somewhat restricted. Young people think
00:16:17that if they enter, they have complete freedom there, that
00:16:21no one can control them. No,
00:16:24the internet can also be controlled, but
00:16:28a law is needed, yes, I think that some
00:16:34impact on youth, teenagers, at least to some
00:17:14extent. It's not about finding a culprit, it's about, in my opinion,
00:17:17focusing on first, ensuring that harmful content
00:17:21is quickly removed from the internet. Here we know, the word
00:17:25censorship immediately comes up, "You want to censor." Well, either
00:17:28we want security, or we want to talk
00:17:31nonsense about freedom of speech. What freedom of speech in a situation
00:17:35where children live in a world that adults
00:17:37have no idea about today? Excellent. The police chief
00:17:41said there was no challenge, but this situation is
00:17:45a challenge for us
00:17:45adults, all of us.
00:17:51in the "Day in an Hour" program, time for international news.
00:17:54The Kremlin rejected a proposal for a 60-day ceasefire
00:17:58presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr
00:18:01Zelenskyy. Russia claims that its goal is a long-term
00:18:05peace agreement.
00:18:21many times already from Vladimir Putin,
00:18:24we have heard that he is ready for peace,
00:18:27that peace in Ukraine is near, that he
00:18:31would like to negotiate in some way. These words always
00:18:34sound ominous here in Ukraine.
00:18:37Because most often, when Putin talks about peace, he later
00:18:40attacks Ukrainian cities, and such a warning
00:18:44is still in effect. We live under the threat
00:18:47that there may be another massive attack
00:18:51on Ukrainian cities, because indeed the Russian Federation
00:18:55does not stop attacking, among other places, in the east,
00:18:59from there we receive the most tragic news
00:19:03practically every day, and so it is
00:19:06today from Kharkiv. Among other things, we received
00:19:10information about an attack on residential buildings, in
00:19:13which people went missing, several people were
00:19:17injured. Also from Donbas, from Donetsk
00:19:20Oblast, where very bloody fighting
00:19:23is still ongoing, it does not stop. We also
00:19:27have data on additional people killed, including
00:19:30an entire family near Kramatorsk, including
00:19:33a 13-year-old girl, who died in
00:19:36their own home. The authorities of these eastern regions
00:19:40constantly appeal to residents to leave the cities,
00:19:43to evacuate to safer places,
00:19:46but the question remains, where is it truly
00:19:50safer? Because Russian drones penetrate almost all
00:19:53regions of Ukraine. Just now, before
00:19:57our connection, I checked the air raid
00:20:00alarm map, and at this moment, Russian drones
00:20:04are moving through the southwestern regions all the
00:20:07way to the vicinity of Ternopil. Here in Kyiv, the alarm
00:20:11recently ended. Generators like this one
00:20:15saved residents from power and water shortages
00:20:18for many hours. Crisis
00:20:21headquarters are working and wondering what to do
00:20:24when things get worse, and we are waiting to see what the next hours and
00:20:28night will bring. Piotrka Szuwara is also waiting
00:20:32for it in Kyiv. Thank you very much.
00:20:35Meanwhile, the European Union has adopted another
00:20:38package of sanctions against Russia. It concerns a record number of over
00:20:421,600 individuals and entities from Russia. The restrictions
00:20:45are primarily aimed at the Russian arms
00:20:48industry, which produces weapons used against Ukraine. Dorota
00:20:52Bawołek provides the details. This refers to so-called individual
00:20:56sanctions, which consist of freezing assets
00:20:58held in European banks and banning entry
00:21:02into the 27 EU member states. Today, EU
00:21:06authorities imposed such restrictions on a record number of Russians
00:21:09and Russian companies, primarily from the military-industrial
00:21:12complex, specifically over
00:21:16740 heads, directors, engineers
00:21:20working in arms companies,
00:21:23over 820 such enterprises and
00:21:26facilities servicing and producing submarines,
00:21:30armored vehicles, telecommunications equipment,
00:21:34electronics used in
00:21:37weaponry, but also missiles
00:21:40and ammunition. On the
00:21:43blacklist, as of today, there are also an additional over
00:21:4670 Russians involved in the organization
00:22:02Europe hopes that in this way, at least partially,
00:22:06it will weaken Russia's recent massive and increasingly
00:22:09deadly actions on the Ukrainian
00:22:13front.
00:22:20German press, among others, writes about Donald Trump. Why?
00:22:23Ernest Zozuń from the foreign newsroom will tell us now. So,
00:22:26where does such a description come from? What did Donald Trump do to deserve it? Well, everything
00:22:30he did on Friday, Saturday, and yesterday, Sunday, because,
00:22:34well, information emerged, first, that he arranged with Vladimir Putin
00:22:38for diesel fuel supplies to the United States,
00:22:42thereby exempting Russia from the sanctions
00:22:45imposed on that country. He exempted Russia
00:22:49until April from these sanctions, which, first,
00:22:52gives Russia the ability to trade diesel fuel with the United
00:22:56States, which Donald Trump is very keen on,
00:22:59but also gives it the ability to trade with other
00:23:03countries, because the sanctions imposed by the United States stated
00:23:06that: first, we do not buy from you, second,
00:23:09all those who buy from you will have serious
00:23:12problems with the United States, which means
00:23:16that this market was completely freed
00:23:19by Donald Trump. And it is well known
00:23:23that if tankers with diesel fuel are flowing, then other
00:23:26things can flow too. This makes it much easier
00:23:30to operate the entire gray zone of fossil
00:23:33fuel exports by Russia, which we
00:23:37are constantly dealing with and trying to deal with, and to plug
00:23:41all the holes in these sanctions that Russia
00:23:43has been subjected to. German newspapers write, first
00:23:47of all, that in this way...
00:23:59They also write that currently
00:24:02he blames the one who was attacked,
00:24:05Donald Trump, and seeks the favor
00:24:09of the one who attacked. Therefore, Donald Trump's approach
00:24:13to justice is perverse, that's what
00:24:16they write. First
00:24:20of all, what the Germans, German commentators,
00:24:24point out is that in this
00:24:28way, the Russians will wage war in
00:24:30Ukraine with American money. These
00:24:33diesel fuel supplies are a drop in the
00:24:37ocean of American needs, because the first 300 tons
00:24:40are barely less than a day's supply for America,
00:24:44and that's supposed to last a month. Let's pause for a moment
00:24:47longer on Donald Trump and this
00:24:51diesel fuel, because Republican and Democratic senators called on President Trump
00:24:55to change course regarding the agreements on the supply
00:24:59of diesel fuel from Russia. Our correspondent
00:25:02Marcin Antosiewicz is in Washington. Welcome,
00:25:05please tell us what actions the senators are taking
00:25:08in this matter?
00:25:11Symbolic, these are only symbolic actions. We see that
00:25:15Congress has essentially capitulated when it comes
00:25:18to Donald Trump's presidency.
00:25:24newspapers, because since Donald Trump's return, Donald
00:25:28Trump has leaned more towards is not a new
00:25:31line in Donald Trump's policy. It was clear from the election campaign,
00:25:35and then when he returned to the White House, that if
00:25:39he had to choose between Putin and Zelenskyy, between Russia and Ukraine, he would choose Putin
00:25:42and Russia. So this surprise is not in place. Rather, we need
00:25:46to accept the reality that is here. These Republican
00:25:49senators, together with their Democratic colleagues, there are two
00:25:52of them, are actually writing are illegal, citing
00:25:55a law that passed Congress after the start of Russia's
00:25:59aggression against Ukraine in 2022, which states
00:26:02that the United States cannot import Russian energy
00:26:06resources, including diesel fuel, into
00:26:09the country. But that won't change anything, because,
00:26:13for example, one of these senators is Tom Tillis, who is ending
00:26:16his term and not seeking re-election, so he recently published a book
00:26:20and said that Donald Trump no longer threatens him, so he can
00:26:23say what he wants. So another senator, a senator
00:26:27from Maine, has to distance herself from Donald Trump
00:26:30to win as a Republican, as a Republican party candidate,
00:26:34in a de facto Democratic state like Maine. Therefore,
00:26:38we cannot get attached to this, because we should not count on
00:26:41Congress in this matter. It will not do anything. Donald Trump
00:26:44needs support in the election campaign, and we see
00:26:48that this is essentially a move that shows desperation,
00:26:52because Donald Trump won the presidential election two years
00:26:55ago thanks to massive support in rural areas. Now
00:26:59this support has been declining in recent weeks and months. Now he is simply trying
00:27:02to make a move that the high prices of gasoline
00:27:05and diesel are due to the Ukrainian-Russian war, for him
00:27:08more than the Russian-Ukrainian war, than his war with
00:27:12Iran. There can be no surprise about Donald Trump's behavior,
00:27:16especially if one follows all his statements, actions,
00:27:20and behavior, especially in recent months, which are strongly
00:27:23pro-Russian, as we can indeed describe them. But Americans are also
00:27:27threatening to stop arms supplies to Ukraine if it does not stop attacks on Russian refineries, and about that, in turn,
00:27:31brings. how probable
00:27:35is this scenario?
00:27:38well, this scenario has also been on the table for over a year, ever since that argument with
00:27:41Zelensky in the Oval Office, so it's not any news. Americans,
00:27:45and Donald Trump, stopped any supplies
00:27:48to Ukraine from the moment they returned to the White House. Currently, the
00:27:52American weapons going to Ukraine are weapons that
00:27:56Europeans, the European Union, are buying,
00:27:59and then Europeans send these weapons to Ukraine. So these supplies
00:28:03have been stopped for a long time. Of course, now it's about this is still on the table, it's
00:28:07this American scarecrow, that Americans will stop doing this.
00:28:10But on the other hand, they are getting money for these weapons, these are not some
00:28:14discounts on these weapons, but these are weapons bought normally by us
00:28:17Europeans and sent further to the Ukrainian front. What might also be
00:28:21at play here is that we see what is happening, that Americans are running out of
00:28:24weapons, especially Patriot missiles,
00:28:28after they started this full-scale
00:28:31invasion, not a full-scale one, but an aerial invasion together with Israel
00:28:35on Iran, and therefore, it is becoming increasingly
00:28:39probable that, simply not having these weapons, they will stop selling them
00:28:42to Europeans, and thus they will stop reaching the Ukrainian front. As
00:28:46for intelligence information, let me just say at the end that this is very important, here
00:28:50also this scarecrow is constantly present, but here it is increasingly heard from
00:28:54Ukrainians, but also from European diplomats, that Ukraine and
00:28:58Europe are becoming increasingly secure in this matter, that they would be able to
00:29:01cope. For example, by using French intelligence data,
00:29:05other British intelligence, but also Polish, and therefore
00:29:09here, of course, it would be an unfavorable development of the situation,
00:29:12but Ukraine is increasingly prepared for this,
00:29:16as our correspondent Marcin Antosiewicz said. Thank you very
00:29:19much, and we, Ernest, will stay with these Russian
00:29:23influences, because recently the British Prime Minister made a very interesting
00:29:27statement, who directly stated that Russians had a hand
00:29:30in this, if it comes to...
00:29:33I'll just say this, it was already known for a long time, and information
00:29:37that, firstly, Nigel Farage and his then party
00:29:40UKIP was financed with Russian money,
00:29:44filtered into public opinion, but Andy Burnam is
00:29:47the first British prime minister
00:29:50who clearly and explicitly says there were such
00:29:54interferences, previous British politicians
00:29:57did not clearly speak about this, they said something between
00:30:00the lines, they hinted at something. More on this topic
00:30:04was said by the press or international commentators, while
00:30:08politicians were restrained. In fact, let's listen to him, how
00:30:11he told his citizens.
00:30:14said.
00:30:18We are certainly dealing with disinformation and false information coming
00:30:21from Russia. I don't think we realize the extent to which
00:30:25state-sponsored interference in the British
00:30:29democratic process has occurred. However, I asked this question after taking office.
00:31:05Andy Burnham, of course, looks at the political situation in Europe, but
00:31:08he also looks at his situation on the British
00:31:11political arena. It can be said that he fits
00:31:15into the trend of British polls that
00:31:18say that at the moment most Britons would prefer to return to the European
00:31:21Union, and if a referendum were held,
00:31:25then a large majority would still be against
00:31:28leaving the European Union. In fact, let's
00:31:31listen to them.
00:31:34Well, I'm kind of open to closer relations with
00:31:37Europe, but I'm not sure if the country needs another debate about
00:31:41Brexit, so I don't know myself.
00:31:57We have problems, I just don't know how easy it would be to reverse what has happened, but I believe that the current situation is harming
00:32:00the economy.
00:32:03that's what the British say. Finally, we still have information for you about the health of
00:32:06Pope Leo XIV, because a nodule was detected in his
00:32:10lung. That's right, the Pope himself says it's an early stage, so the
00:32:13sooner it's... the sooner this nodule is
00:32:17removed, the sooner it's examined, the better. And
00:32:20that's why tomorrow the Pope is going to the Gemelli clinic, where the
00:32:24procedure will be performed. From the description coming from the
00:32:27Vatican, it seems that it will not be a very
00:32:31serious procedure. The Pope is to undergo surgery
00:32:35for one day, then a week of convalescence is foreseen, and
00:32:38then the Pope is to return to his normal
00:32:42duties and fulfilling what he has in his calendar. Among other things, at the beginning of November, he is going
00:32:46to South America, and
00:32:49of course, we wish him health, so that all these items in the calendar
00:32:53are fulfilled, because health is key. Ernest Dozoń from the foreign
00:32:56desk, thank you very much.
00:33:00And we, dear ladies and gentlemen, return to the country, where the Warsaw Security Forum is taking place.
00:33:03It is a two-day conference with the participation of state representatives
00:33:07and experts from 90 countries, who exchange views
00:33:11and experiences in the area of security policy.
00:33:18Who were among the most important guests of this
00:33:21event, and which talks will be
00:33:24crucial?
00:33:28This year's 13th forum has a special dimension, because the last
00:33:32months have seen a series of threats and provocations
00:33:35that Russia is directing towards Poland, the Baltic states, and indeed
00:33:39all of Europe. So this is crucial here during the panels
00:33:42that are taking place today since... morning,
00:33:46questions are being asked about how we as Europe, but also as
00:33:49an alliance, are prepared for such attacks and provocations
00:33:52and what we would potentially be able
00:33:55to do if such a direct confrontation with
00:33:59Russia occurred. So this forum is attended by
00:34:02of course the most important Polish politicians, but also hundreds of guests
00:34:06from abroad, because indeed almost a hundred
00:34:10countries have their delegations here. Today, among others,
00:34:13were present... of individual
00:34:16European countries, including, for example, the minister
00:34:22from Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, or Lithuania, and the common
00:34:26denominator of these many conversations taking place here today
00:34:31safe we are, secondly, how united we are, and finally,
00:34:35thirdly, how capable we are of defending ourselves. So
00:34:38this event was opened this morning by Prime Minister Donald
00:34:42Tusk, who spoke a lot about the threats facing
00:34:45Europe and indeed all of NATO. And then another
00:34:49very important element of this first day of the forum was also
00:34:53the speech of the commander of the most important NATO
00:34:56in Europe, who said that in case of
00:34:59a threat, NATO will react instantly, but that, of course,
00:35:02individual countries are making every effort to prevent such a direct
00:35:06confrontation with Russia from happening. The forum, however, continues, another
00:35:10day is ahead of us, tomorrow however, there will be a lot
00:35:13about diplomacy.
00:35:45died after being shot by a policewoman.
00:35:47We will also say what awaits the driver who hit two
00:35:51cyclists, one
00:35:52died.
00:35:56Crazy ride of a 29-year-old woman through the streets of
00:35:59Poznań. The woman, speeding down Grunwaldzka, hit a tram
00:36:02stop, and then fled. Several hours
00:36:05later, she was arrested by the police. The accident
00:36:08happened on Saturday night into Sunday at the intersection of Grunwaldzka and
00:36:12Matejki streets. Thanks to the footage from surveillance, it can be seen
00:36:15how the woman, driving at high speed, lost control of
00:36:19the vehicle and with impact hit the tram
00:36:22stop. Both the shelter and the car were
00:36:25heavily damaged. The woman fled the scene, only to be
00:36:29caught by the police several hours later.
00:36:33Officers will thoroughly investigate a number of offenses
00:36:36committed by this
00:36:3829-year-old woman.
00:36:43And now Bydgoszcz and the story of a man who attacked police officers with a knife.
00:36:46One of the policewomen fired a shot at
00:36:49the attacker. The 44-year-old man died after being transported to
00:36:53the hospital. Around 9 PM, Bydgoszcz
00:36:57police received information that on the Bydgoszcz
00:37:01green, or specifically on Stawowa Street,
00:37:05there was a man with a knife, self-harming.
00:37:08This information probably reached
00:37:12the officers from the sister of this man. Of course, a
00:37:16police patrol was immediately sent to the scene, i.e., Stawowa
00:37:19Street. The officers asked for backup because
00:37:22the man did not respond to
00:37:25commands, there was no contact with him, he was
00:37:29aggressive, he indeed had a knife in
00:37:33his hand and was indeed self-harming. At some
00:37:36point, he charged towards the police officers
00:37:39and one of the officers used her weapon, wounding this
00:37:43man. Medical services were on site and it was
00:37:46precisely the medics who provided first aid to this man before
00:37:50he was transported to one of the Bydgoszcz
00:37:54hospitals. The information that this wounded man
00:37:58died reached the police officers after 10 PM and
00:38:02of course the prosecutor was immediately informed
00:38:05about this matter. Proceedings continued
00:38:09until late at night, so it is this
00:38:12prosecutorial investigation that will clarify all the circumstances
00:38:16of this incident. However, the police are
00:38:19also investigating this matter, this is such
00:38:22an internal procedure, as we learned today from the spokeswoman,
00:38:26nothing indicates that...
00:38:32And we return to the case of the driver who hit two cyclists in Greater Poland.
00:38:35One of the women died. About what
00:38:39threatens the twenty-year-old, Sylwia Cebulska.
00:38:43The driver who on Sunday morning
00:38:46hit two cyclists was charged today with
00:38:50causing a fatal accident. Everything
00:38:53happened on this road, it's provincial road number
00:38:57312 near Grodzisk
00:38:59Wielkopolski. The women were moving
00:39:02correctly on the shoulder of the road, moreover
00:39:06they were wearing reflective vests.
00:39:09Visibility should have been excellent
00:39:13yesterday morning, this is a straight section of the road.
00:39:17Unfortunately, the driver drove into
00:39:20the women. The consequences of this incident are tragic.
00:39:24The younger of the women, a 20-year-old, died on the spot.
00:39:27The older, a 27-year-old, in serious condition was
00:39:30transported to a hospital in Poznań.
00:39:34The driver pleads not guilty, he refused
00:39:37to give explanations. It is known that at the time of
00:39:40the accident he was sober, however, the police took
00:39:44his blood for further tests,
00:39:47and for causing this accident,
00:39:50the 20-year-old driver faces up to 8 years
00:39:54in prison.
00:39:57Klaudia Uciechowska, a student from Wałbrzych, who fell seriously ill in China,
00:40:00has woken up from a coma. Now intensive
00:40:04rehabilitation and learning basic activities await her. What
00:40:07progress is Klaudia making and what still lies ahead for her, Paweł
00:40:11Pawlucy reports.
00:40:13This is a result that few people expected, a result in such
00:40:16a way that Klaudia Ujciechowska, a 24-year-old student of
00:40:20Chinese philology from Wałbrzych, has regained consciousness. As
00:40:23her mother, Ms. Joanna Uciechowska, recounts, Klaudia opened her eyes and
00:40:27recognized her closest family members. At this moment, she is able to
00:40:30utter single words,
00:40:34she is also learning anew to control her body, move her limbs,
00:40:37or slowly, but surely, stand on her own two feet.
00:40:41Her loved ones report that there is still a lot of work ahead of her. At this moment, she still
00:40:45experiences seizures and memory loss.
00:40:48There are moments when the student does not recognize her family,
00:40:52only after some time does that awareness return to her eyes. What is very
00:40:55important, at this moment... the difficult, burdensome, and long
00:40:59rehabilitation, which she is undergoing in Krakow, is still
00:41:02ongoing. Her parents, of
00:41:05it will proceed according to plan and that eventually
00:41:08the 24-year-old will be able to lead an independent life,
00:41:12just like before these tragic events that happened in China.
00:41:15Let me remind you that in April she suffered a collapse there,
00:41:19the diagnosis was clear: a teratoma and numerous complications,
00:41:23including meningitis. Transport to Poland was necessary.
00:41:26Here... the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The plane landed in
00:41:30Wrocław, and now in Krakow this story continues.
00:41:33next.
00:45:07Now we return to Earth, because in Świeradów-Zdrój and Szklarska
00:45:10Poręba, wild boars are increasingly boldly enjoying urban
00:45:13attractions, leaving damaged gardens, overturned bins, and
00:45:17increasingly frightened residents. The problem is
00:45:20that catching animals is very expensive, and feeding them only
00:45:24encourages more to relocate. Maciej
00:45:27Biskup. They do actual damage, overturning
00:45:30bins. In Szklarska Poręba, wild boars feel increasingly
00:45:34at home, regularly visiting the town. Wild boars
00:45:37are actually every day, every evening, every night
00:45:41in my garden, my yard, next to a playground
00:45:44where children play during the day,
00:45:48and I'm afraid to throw out the trash. The city council
00:45:51knows the problem, but the officials haven't found a good solution yet. The topic
00:45:55is difficult because I understand that residents feel
00:45:58wronged, because if someone cultivates a garden for several
00:46:02years, and in one night a herd of wild boars ruins
00:46:05that years of work, then they have the right to be upset.
00:46:09Culling is not possible due to the proximity of
00:46:12buildings. Tourists who willingly feed
00:46:15the animals are also a problem. The first method
00:46:19seems to be the most effective: restrict their
00:46:22access to free food,
00:46:25meaning we shouldn't throw away various food
00:46:28waste, either in the bin or next to the bin. And
00:46:32this is Świeradów-Zdrój. The resort is also gladly visited by
00:46:35wild boars, it has been like this for several years. We entered their territories, and
00:46:39wild boars.
00:46:47to our city, practically in the spa town, wild boars walk on the roads in broad daylight, the city wants to catch wild boars together with the starosty, I declare
00:46:50here the will of cooperation from the town of Świeradów
00:46:54on the condition that the local government here will secure adequate
00:46:57funds, these are not small funds, because we are talking about, so to speak,
00:47:01neutralizing one individual, these are funds in the amount of up to
00:47:04PLN 3,000. With the beginning of autumn in the Sudetes, the activity of
00:47:08wolves increases, which makes wild boars even more willing to migrate from
00:47:12forests to cities. The area around Świeradów-Zdrój alone is inhabited by
00:47:15a pack of about 300 individuals. Maciej
