00:06:46this

00:07:33of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Ambassador Ivon
00:07:36Mewengkang,
00:07:39who also serves as Deputy Permanent Representative of Indonesia,
00:07:43the second at PTR New York, and
00:07:46Mr. Fat Nabil, Spokesperson 2 of the Ministry of Foreign
00:07:48Affairs. Eh, honorable media colleagues,
00:07:52without further ado, eh,

00:08:05yours.
00:08:08Thank you Mr. Director of Infomet, Mr. Henrik.
00:08:14First of all, I apologize for being late because
00:08:18as I mentioned earlier, I had a meeting
00:08:21before this and I deliberately
00:08:25made it at 4 o'clock and a little later so that the room
00:08:28would be a bit warm, so friends won't ask too
00:08:30many questions.
00:08:36Eh, assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi
00:08:39wabarakatuh.
00:08:42Shalom, Om Swastiyastu, Namo Buddhaya,
00:08:46hail, greetings of kindness, rahayu, rahayu,
00:08:49rahayu. Respected
00:08:53media colleagues,
00:08:54thank you for
00:08:57attending this afternoon
00:09:00and also thank
00:09:03you because all this time colleagues
00:09:07have continued to follow,
00:09:09oversee, and support
00:09:12Indonesia's diplomatic
00:09:14work.
00:09:17Hendra conveyed
00:09:20earlier, I felt
00:09:23it directly when I was
00:09:27the spokesperson and went through
00:09:31various challenges in our diplomacy
00:09:34and friends
00:09:37were always with the Ministry of Foreign
00:09:40Affairs, always... to support the Ministry of Foreign
00:09:44Affairs, always providing
00:09:48accurate and
00:09:51precise news, and always upholding
00:09:54the dignity of our foreign policy and
00:09:58Indonesian diplomacy.
00:10:01This morning I just carried
00:10:04out the handover of duties with Mr.
00:10:07Sugiono, who now serves as the Coordinating
00:10:10Minister for Human Development and
00:10:13Culture.
00:10:15Therefore, on this occasion, allow
00:10:19me to open my first briefing
00:10:22with one thing:
00:10:27My sincere thanks
00:10:30to Mr. Sugiono.
00:10:34The last two years were not an
00:10:38easy time. Geopolitics became
00:10:41more complicated, the world moved from
00:10:45one crisis to the next
00:10:47crisis.
00:10:50But in the midst of all that, Mr. Sugiono
00:10:54ensured that our foreign policy
00:10:58remained consistent with the principle of free
00:11:02and active and the mandate
00:11:05of the constitution.
00:11:08That is what I will continue, I will
00:11:11strengthen, and I will
00:11:13safeguard. This is not a new
00:11:16page, this is the next
00:11:20chapter in the same
00:11:23book.
00:11:25Respected media colleagues, I
00:11:29want to start from one fundamental
00:11:32thing:
00:11:35ministers can change,
00:11:37the direction of Indonesia's
00:11:40foreign policy
00:11:43cannot. Our compass is not
00:11:45a minister's personal
00:11:49preference, but
00:11:52the constitution.
00:11:56The 1945
00:11:58Constitution
00:12:01has given a very clear direction:
00:12:05to protect the entire nation,
00:12:08to advance general welfare,
00:12:11to enlighten the life of the nation,
00:12:15and to participate in maintaining world
00:12:18order.
00:12:21These four goals have never changed since
00:12:251945 and will not
00:12:29change tomorrow morning.
00:12:33This is what we call principled
00:12:36diplomacy, diplomacy that
00:12:40is based on
00:12:41principles.
00:12:44In an increasingly uncertain world like
00:12:47today, principles are becoming
00:12:50more important, not less
00:12:53important. When many things are changing
00:12:56rapidly, the world is looking for partners who
00:13:00do not change.
00:13:04In an uncertain world,
00:13:07Indonesia must be a
00:13:09certainty.
00:13:12Consistency is not rigidity,
00:13:15consistency means that its words can
00:13:19be trusted.
00:13:22A consistent country will
00:13:25country will
00:13:27be relied upon. That trust
00:13:30is the most valuable
00:13:33diplomatic capital that we have built
00:13:37for years.
00:13:41Respected media colleagues,
00:13:42perhaps you are wondering what principled
00:13:46diplomacy looks
00:13:49like in practice.
00:13:51First, our
00:13:55diplomacy will always be based on national
00:13:58interests and must provide
00:14:01benefits for the people.
00:14:05Second, free and active remains
00:14:08the anchor of our foreign policy.
00:14:11Indonesia is not
00:14:14bound by any alliance.
00:14:18We do not choose blocks, we
00:14:21choose principles. We are a peace-loving country
00:14:26that wants to be friends
00:14:29with all countries, as Mr.
00:14:33President Prabowo Subianto often
00:14:36says, a million friends are too
00:14:39few, one enemy is too
00:14:42many. But
00:14:46this should not be misinterpreted
00:14:49as meaning that we will not be firm if
00:14:52the interests of the Republic of Indonesia are disturbed.
00:14:57We will always be firm
00:15:00for the interests
00:15:01of the Republic of Indonesia. In
00:15:05the midst of differences, Indonesia
00:15:08always strives to be part of
00:15:11the solution, not of
00:15:13the problem. Free
00:15:17but not silent, active
00:15:19but not
00:15:21blindly following.
00:15:24That is how Indonesia builds
00:15:26its reputation as a bridge builder and
00:15:30peacemaker, and we will
00:15:33continue to carry out that role.
00:15:37Respected media colleagues, principled
00:15:39diplomacy also
00:15:42stems from a simple realization:
00:15:46we cannot govern the world if
00:15:49our own house is fragile.
00:15:51This message was also conveyed by
00:15:55Mr. Sugiono at the 81st UN General
00:15:59Assembly in New York last
00:16:03month.
00:16:04Our
00:16:07diplomacy will continue to be directed to support
00:16:11national resilience by
00:16:14advancing the major
00:16:17and strategic transformation agenda of Mr. President
00:16:20Prabowo
00:16:22and National Development priorities.
00:16:25This is the first and foremost priority
00:16:28of our foreign policy and diplomacy to support
00:16:32national resilience.
00:16:35The measure is simple. Diplomacy must
00:16:39be felt at the people's dining
00:16:43table, meaning
00:16:46that diplomacy also works for food and
00:16:49energy security, industrialization and
00:16:52digital transformation, defense industry,
00:16:56trade and investment, health, and
00:17:00our maritime sovereignty.
00:17:03We will increase and intensify bilateral
00:17:06cooperation for concrete results to support
00:17:10development priorities. Examples are already
00:17:14before our eyes. To support
00:17:17self-sufficiency and food security, we are cooperating with
00:17:20Japan and South Korea to increase rice
00:17:24production and encourage concrete cooperation with
00:17:27Vietnam in investment in dairy
00:17:30cattle farming. With Japan, we are also developing
00:17:33cooperation in thorium and geothermal
00:17:36power plants. With China, we are building
00:17:40an integrated electric vehicle
00:17:43battery ecosystem,
00:17:45and today QRIS can already
00:17:48be used for cross-border transactions in Thailand,
00:17:52Malaysia, China, and Japan. In the
00:17:56last two years, relations with Thailand and Egypt
00:18:00have been upgraded to Strategic Partnership, the same
00:18:04also with Russia, while
00:18:07with Vietnam and France it has become a Comprehensive
00:18:10Strategic Partnership.
00:18:14This year, for the first time, we are holding
00:18:17a C2+C2 dialogue with Turkey and a comprehensive
00:18:20strategic dialogue with Turkey, and the next
00:18:24one is planned to be with South Korea and
00:18:28Qatar.
00:18:31In the area of trade, the Cepa negotiations with
00:18:34the EU have been substantively completed.
00:18:38Meanwhile, Cepa with Canada and Peru
00:18:41has been signed this year.
00:18:44We will also continue to finalize trade
00:18:48cooperation negotiations with GCC,
00:18:51Mercosur, Turkey,
00:18:54Georgia, Chile, and
00:18:56Uzbekistan. But for
00:19:00us, an agreement is not the finish
00:19:03line. An agreement is the starting
00:19:06line, or starting point.
00:19:09Therefore, all these cooperation frameworks will
00:19:13be translated into action plans, road
00:19:16maps, and concrete sectoral
00:19:19agreements.
00:19:22Dear media friends, national
00:19:26resilience also means the state is present
00:19:29for every citizen, including abroad.
00:19:32Since 2024
00:19:35until September this year,
00:19:38the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has resolved
00:19:41approximately 124,000
00:19:45cases involving Indonesian citizens abroad.
00:19:48Behind every number
00:19:52is a family waiting, waiting
00:19:56for news, and parents who want their children
00:19:59to come home safely.
00:20:02The Indonesian passport must mean one
00:20:06thing: wherever you are,
00:20:09the state is behind
00:20:11you.
00:20:13In the future, the protection of Indonesian citizens will remain one of
00:20:17our main priorities with a more responsive
00:20:20crisis response and integrated digital
00:20:24services.
00:20:28Dear media colleagues,
00:20:30a strong national resilience
00:20:34is certainly also directed at strengthening regional
00:20:38resilience. We need a stable,
00:20:41peaceful, and predictable
00:20:44region so that all countries have
00:20:48room to grow.
00:20:52For almost six decades, ASEAN has
00:20:55been the anchor of our foreign policy
00:20:58for regional peace and
00:21:02stability. And this will not
00:21:05change. Towards the 60th anniversary of ASEAN
00:21:09in 2027 next year, Indonesia
00:21:12will push for a more effective,
00:21:16more adaptive, and
00:21:20still relevant ASEAN.
00:21:23ASEAN does not just have convening
00:21:26power, ASEAN must
00:21:28be able to produce tangible strategic
00:21:32outcomes and maintain peace, strengthen
00:21:36trust, and deliver concrete results for
00:21:39the people in the region.
00:21:42ASEAN must contribute and strengthen
00:21:46the regional architecture of Indonesia.
00:22:20Real cooperation. In
00:22:232028,
00:22:27Indonesia will also, God willing, have its turn to
00:22:30serve as the Secretary General of ASEAN.
00:22:34We will use this opportunity to help
00:22:37shape the direction and strengthen
00:22:40ASEAN's work going forward.
00:22:44Besides ASEAN, we will also contribute to
00:22:47strengthening regional resilience in the Indian Ocean
00:22:51through IORA and
00:22:53PIF.
00:22:57Ultimately, national and regional resilience
00:23:00is the foundation for global
00:23:03resilience. For Indonesia,
00:23:07the multilateral system and international
00:23:10law are not an option,
00:23:13but a
00:23:14necessity.
00:23:17International law must apply.
00:23:50developing countries or Global
00:23:52South. For that, we will
00:23:56continue to push for steps to strengthen the
00:23:59multilateral system or encourage
00:24:02multilateral reform.
00:24:06And we are not just knocking on the door from
00:24:09outside, we are also
00:24:12helping to fix the house from
00:24:15within. That is why Indonesia
00:24:19sits on the UN
00:24:21Board of Auditors to help
00:24:24strengthen the accountability
00:24:28and transparency of the UN. This effort was initiated
00:24:32by Ibu Retno Marsudi in
00:24:342022, continued by Mr.
00:24:38Sugiono until Indonesia was successfully
00:24:42elected in 2025,
00:24:45and now it is my duty to
00:24:48ensure that mandate is carried
00:24:52out well. This is, friends,
00:24:56a concrete example of continuity.
00:24:59The baton changes hands,
00:25:03but the race continues in the same
00:25:06direction. The same spirit
00:25:10underlies Indonesia's candidacy as a
00:25:13non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the
00:25:162029-2030 period.
00:25:20to encourage a more effective,
00:25:23representative, transparent,
00:25:26and democratic
00:25:29UN Security Council. Likewise
00:25:32the candidacy of our Minister of Health as
00:25:36Director General of WHO,
00:25:39for a more equitable
00:25:43global health architecture for developing
00:25:46countries.
00:25:50We will also continue to fight for this
00:25:53through our strategic groupings
00:25:55such as G20, BRICS,
00:25:58MIKTA, OIC, APEC,
00:26:02and D-8 so that priority issues of the
00:26:06Global South developing countries
00:26:08can truly continue
00:26:10to be discussed.
00:26:12In an increasingly divided world, Indonesia's
00:26:16ability to speak with all parties is
00:26:19our diplomatic asset.
00:26:23In the spirit of Bandung, we will continue to
00:26:26use that asset to promote peace,
00:26:29including for Palestine.
00:26:34Indonesia's stance towards Palestine has never
00:26:37changed because our constitution
00:26:40has not changed.
00:26:44Indonesia will continue to stand with the people of
00:26:47Palestine until their rights
00:26:50are fulfilled and an independent
00:26:53and sovereign Palestinian
00:26:56state is realized. The concrete steps
00:26:59are clear: protection for the
00:27:02Palestinian people, humanitarian aid,
00:27:06recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, and
00:27:10strengthening the capacity of the Palestinian
00:27:13Authority.
00:27:16Respected colleagues, all
00:27:19of these agendas require a strong diplomatic
00:27:23machinery. Therefore, we will continue
00:27:26to strengthen the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be more
00:27:29adaptive and agile
00:27:33in facing a world that is difficult
00:27:35to predict. One thing
00:27:39I can assure you
00:27:42is that we will consistently carry out
00:27:45a free and active foreign policy,
00:27:48translated into tangible results for
00:27:51the Indonesian people. But
00:27:55diplomacy cannot run
00:27:58alone. We need
00:28:02"We need the support of all elements
00:28:05of society,
00:28:08from think tanks, academia,
00:28:11including media
00:28:13colleagues. Colleagues are not
00:28:16just reporting on our diplomatic
00:28:19journey, but also helping to ensure diplomacy
00:28:22continues to work for national
00:28:25interests. Therefore, I
00:28:29want the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' communication
00:28:31with the media to be more
00:28:34open and closer.
00:28:38Our roles may be different, but
00:28:40our goal is the
00:28:43same: Indonesia's voice is heard
00:28:47in the world, and the benefits of diplomacy are felt by
00:28:51the people. So if I have to summarize
00:28:55it in one sentence:
00:28:59a strong Indonesia internally, trusted in the
00:29:02region, and heard in the world.
00:29:06That is our diplomacy and foreign
00:29:10policy, and in an uncertain
00:29:13world, Indonesia will remain
00:29:16a certainty.
00:29:19Thank you, friends, that's what
00:29:23I can convey this afternoon.
00:29:27I am happy to be able to work
00:29:31closely with you in the future.
00:29:34Thank you. Wassalamu alaikum warahmatullahi
00:29:37wabarakatuh. Walaikum assalam warahmatullahi
00:29:39wabarakatuh.
00:29:42Thank you, Mr. Minister of Foreign Affairs, for the statement
00:29:45conveyed. Dear media colleagues,
00:29:49this concludes the press briefing of the Minister of Foreign Affairs
00:29:52of the Republic of Indonesia this afternoon.
00:29:55We express our appreciation and gratitude for the presence
00:29:59and participation of all of you. As conveyed by Mr.
00:30:02Minister, the media is an important partner
00:30:05of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in ensuring that Indonesian diplomacy continues
00:30:08to work for national interests. We hope
00:30:12that this good partnership and communication will continue to be strengthened
00:30:16in the future. Thank you. Assalamu alaikum
00:30:19warahmatullahi wabarakatuh about
00:30:22him being very serious about
00:30:26handling this peatland issue.
00:30:29Okay, sir, who else participated, sir? Oh, in that,
00:30:33related, TNI Commander, National Police Chief,
00:30:37then Ministry of Forestry,
00:30:40then BNPB and so on,
00:30:44that was a zoom meeting, so it wasn't direct.
00:30:47What about the response, sir, regarding neighboring countries
00:30:50protesting, sir? Perhaps there is a response from the government.
00:30:54Indeed, the impact is on neighboring countries, which is why he is very
00:30:58concerned because there are many peatlands
00:31:01that are difficult to extinguish, but
00:31:05several efforts that we
00:31:08have made, of course, I as the chairman
00:31:11of the steering committee for forest and land fires
00:31:15will discuss this with the president specifically. What will be discussed, sir? Perhaps
00:31:19I will convey
00:31:21it later
00:31:24in terms of personnel, sir? Eh, for personnel, both the TNI,
00:31:28police, and eh units
