00:00:50Good morning Romania, it's Thursday August 6th,
00:00:537:00 AM, it is said that Romanians are united in hard times, the problem is that
00:00:57the rest of the time we seem to have specialized in being divided on
00:01:00everything, we don't discuss anymore, we label each other, if you don't agree
00:01:03with me, you are surely paid by someone, if you have a different opinion, you clearly belong to
00:01:07the other side, we argue about politics, about football, about the weather, about
00:01:11electric cars, dogs, cats and if there's
00:01:15still time, we even argue about how others argue, it seems we have become a nation
00:01:18divided into millions of experts and very few people willing to
00:01:22listen, we have opinions on everything and patience for nothing, before
00:01:26we understand a piece of news, we already choose which side we are on, but
00:01:29the truth is, we seek confirmation that we are
00:01:32right and ironically, when a real crisis comes, we discover that drought does not
00:01:36ask who you voted for, the energy bill does not side with
00:01:39the left or the right, the heatwave does not bypass pessimists or
00:01:43optimists. Caragiale would have had enormous success today, only
00:01:46he wouldn't have had to invent characters, he would have just opened his
00:01:50phone, maybe we haven't become a worse society, we have only become a
00:01:54society that talks a lot and listens very little, and when
00:01:57everyone shouts, no one hears anyone anymore. Maybe the biggest
00:02:01victory we can achieve is not to make the other person
00:02:04shut up, but to manage to listen to each other from
00:02:08time to time. We begin by seeing the main events of this
00:02:11morning.
00:02:14The authorities' appeal for energy saving is starting to produce results.
00:02:18Electricity consumption decreased by approximately 250
00:02:21MW compared to the estimated level for yesterday's temperatures, but
00:02:25the reduction covers only a small part of the deficit during
00:02:28peak hours.
00:02:31Mirabela Grădinaru, Nicușor Dan's partner, published her wealth declaration
00:02:35on the presidential administration's website. The announcement was made by
00:02:38the head of state, who thus wants to avoid any speculation. The
00:02:42transparency exercise comes against the backdrop of heated debates in parliament on the
00:02:46law.
00:02:49It's hot at this hour and it will be even hotter during the day,
00:02:53but meteorologists say that rains are also making their way. We'll be back with
00:02:56details in a few moments.
00:03:06The authorities' appeal for energy saving is starting to produce results,
00:03:09electricity consumption decreased by approximately 250
00:03:13MW compared to the estimated level for yesterday's
00:03:16temperatures, but the reduction covers only a small part of the deficit during
00:03:20peak hours. The government is preparing the mandatory limitation of
00:03:24consumption for approximately 80 large energy consumers. The normative
00:03:27act is expected to be adopted today.
00:03:31Most companies that will be obliged to reduce or even temporarily
00:03:35stop their electricity supply in crisis situations
00:03:39operate in steel production,
00:03:42aluminum production like Alro Slatina, the
00:03:45chemical fertilizer industry, and the automotive sector. From
00:03:48the moment the government adopts the decision by which
00:03:51it can reduce the electricity consumption of large companies
00:03:55in Romania, it will receive a list from the Ministry of Energy with
00:03:59all these companies, when problems arise, and
00:04:02this will be the only solution,
00:04:04nature reserve in the south of the country, destroying those companies will be notified at least 24
00:04:10out of control, with over 300 hours in advance, and the period in which electricity consumption will be
00:04:12stopped will be limited.
00:04:15Authorities say that the measures aim to protect the balance of the national
00:04:19energy system. Companies are probably selected
00:04:22based on consumption volume, meaning that in the first instance you discuss
00:04:26with the largest consumers, see if they
00:04:29voluntarily reduce their consumption, and if they
00:04:32don't, they will be forced, that's what it's about. For companies,
00:04:36stopping production will have a very large impact, especially if it was not
00:04:40planned. The problem is that
00:04:43something like this must be seen as an
00:04:46exceptional solution. And it must be understood that a
00:04:49factory is not a switch. You don't press
00:04:53a button, stop today and
00:04:56press again tomorrow and everything is fine, it starts
00:05:00from scratch, sometimes you manage to
00:05:03save one MW and you can lose one
00:05:07million euros in production. Unions say
00:05:10that during the period when factories will close their doors, employees should
00:05:14receive technical unemployment if they are not on vacation,
00:05:17for reasons
00:05:20generated by the energy crisis we are going through, they will have to
00:05:24reduce, close their activity, they are protected by
00:05:28collective labor agreements and during this period they should
00:05:32receive 75% of their salaries, technical
00:05:35unemployment, an exceptional situation. Data from
00:05:392024 shows that transportation represents the largest
00:05:43consumer of electricity nationwide, with a share of
00:05:4634.5%
00:05:48of total consumption. In second place is the population, which
00:05:52uses 31.8% of
00:05:54the electricity, followed by industry with
00:05:5721.5%.
00:06:01The capital is saving energy after the government declared a state of
00:06:05alert nationwide due to the decrease in electricity
00:06:08production. The Bucharest City Hall implemented a
00:06:11plan to reduce consumption since last night, street lighting
00:06:15and that in parks administered by the municipality operate at
00:06:19reduced intensity to limit consumption during
00:06:22peak hours. 25 measures to
00:06:26reduce energy consumption were adopted by the capital's city hall.
00:06:30These will be applied throughout August to reduce pressure
00:06:34on the national energy system, especially during
00:06:37peak consumption in the evening. One of the measures
00:06:40taken by the general city hall is to reduce public lighting
00:06:44in its administered parks by 30%, and
00:06:48where not needed, even a total shutdown
00:06:51of public lighting. Along with the Capital City Hall, Sector 6 City Hall
00:06:55also decided to reduce light intensity by 50%
00:06:58in parks and children's
00:07:02playgrounds. Energy consumption will also be reduced by
00:07:05giving up the architectural lighting of the Capital City Hall
00:07:08headquarters and its subordinate institutions, including museums.
00:07:13Bucharest residents say the measures are welcome, although many state they have not
00:07:16noticed a difference in park lighting. I think
00:07:20it's okay, I don't have a problem with that. But no, no
00:07:24you haven't felt any difference in intensity, I haven't felt the difference, honestly, I haven't looked,
00:07:27usually the light is not very strong in Cișmigiu. At home, have you done anything
00:07:31in this regard to reduce electricity consumption?
00:07:34Normally I don't stay with too much light anyway, I usually as
00:07:37a person have LED bulbs, so there's not much more I can
00:07:41do. we walk, we try to stay out more, at home?
00:07:45well, the fact that I'm not home means everything is off, both lights and air conditioning, it
00:07:49should be less anyway, because it's not needed in the park at such
00:07:52an intensity. but haven't you noticed anything changed in this state?
00:07:56no, no, not yet at all, no. at home do you take any
00:07:59measures to reduce this energy consumption? I always
00:08:03took measures because I don't like strong light. energy
00:08:06saving measures will be applied to the company that
00:08:10manages public transport in Bucharest, electric buses will no longer
00:08:13be charged during the critical interval between 7:30 PM and
00:08:1711 PM and the municipal company Termoenergetica will stop
00:08:21non-essential lighting and will limit the operation of hot water
00:08:25pressure booster pumps. While the Capital City Hall has taken several
00:08:28decisions to reduce electricity consumption,
00:08:31especially in the evening when the crisis is exacerbated. We also have
00:08:35public institutions that have not taken any measures. For
00:08:39example, the People's House, one of the major consumers of
00:08:42electricity, where architectural lighting is
00:08:46not turned off. Currently, the daily electricity consumption
00:08:49in Bucharest is approximately 1000
00:08:52MW. The proposed reductions and measures are
00:08:55good, I can't say they don't help, but they don't have a
00:08:58significant impact. It's more an example
00:09:02than with obvious effects that would
00:09:05actually help. Operators of illuminated advertising panels
00:09:09who have contracts with the Capital City Hall say they will
00:09:13respect the measures imposed by the municipality, but last night
00:09:16the panels in Bucharest's major intersections were still
00:09:19on.
00:09:23Authorities have postponed until this morning the sinking of the four
00:09:26barges loaded with stone in the Bala arm of the Danube, which
00:09:30would divert more water to the Cernavodă nuclear power plant.
00:09:33The plant director declared that in the next week there will be no problems, but
00:09:37the forecast for the Danube's flow is grim.
00:09:41A few more days could be gained if the barges are sunk, an
00:09:44unprecedented operation in
00:09:46Romania.
00:09:51The four barges were filled with hundreds of tons of stone, but their sinking did not
00:09:55take place. The postponement was decided after a prolonged meeting.
00:09:58The unprecedented operation in Romania is risky, and authorities say that
00:10:02the security of those participating in the mission is a priority. It is
00:10:06not an easy operation at all, they will be placed in that
00:10:09area near the bank. From the bank, they
00:10:13will be pushed with
00:10:16by the captain towards the bank, they will be anchored
00:10:19both in the bank and in the
00:10:23anchors, we will continue dredging depths with
00:10:26larger quantities than initially estimated.
00:10:30Reactor 2 of the Cernavodă power plant is operational, and the plant director says that
00:10:34the blasting of the rock at Izvoarele was helpful, it led to a 2 cm
00:10:37increase in the Danube's level in the area of the plant's basin. A few
00:10:41more days of operation would be gained after the sinking of the barges, which would divert more
00:10:44water to the arm leading to Cernavodă. The operations that
00:10:48took place on the Danube at Bala brought us a
00:10:52respite so that the level that was to
00:10:55drop at Cernavodă dropped much less, which led to a few
00:10:59additional days of operation, we currently
00:11:02have a forecast based on the prediction that we will
00:11:06operate for a period of seven days. The Danube reaches a new historic
00:11:09minimum flow of 1400 m³/
00:11:12second at the country's entry point. Although the Danube's flow is extremely low, forecasts show that it will remain
00:11:16stable in the next period.
00:11:19Coal power plants can no longer be closed, even at the cost of blocking
00:11:23billions of unrecoverable euros allocated through
00:11:26PNR. At the final vote, deputies maintained in the decarbonization
00:11:29law the Social Democrats' amendment that generated sharp
00:11:33disputes in the Senate. Maintaining the operation of
00:11:36coal power plants, PSD and Aur insist that this is a solution to
00:11:40the current energy crisis, but the Minister of European Funds says that
00:11:44Romania will lose money. President Nicușor Dan is considering not
00:11:47promulgating the law.
00:11:50Climate change is felt increasingly strongly in Cluj-Napoca and in the local
00:11:54units of the metropolitan area. A study conducted
00:11:58by the Cluj Metropolitan Area Association, together with scientists from Babeș-Bolyai
00:12:01University and European experts, shows that temperatures are rising
00:12:05faster than initial estimates indicated.
00:12:08The conclusion is that the current infrastructure and adaptation measures applied
00:12:12until now are no longer sufficient to cope with extreme heat
00:12:15waves and floods caused by torrential
00:12:19rains. Both are at
00:12:22risk in their centers, they are at
00:12:25high risk, in the period 2071-
00:12:282100 under the same scenario in which we do not
00:12:32undertake concrete adaptation measures, we reach red, which
00:12:36we reach, here we reach, in the central area of Cluj, at
00:12:39risk, these are the latest climatic studies that show that in the Cluj
00:12:43metropolitan area temperatures are rising much faster than
00:12:46initial predictions indicated. It was found that the values estimated
00:12:50by climate models 20 years ago are practically
00:12:54lower than what we have in reality. Although everyone looks towards Cluj-Napoca when
00:12:58it comes to overheating, research shows that certain
00:13:01rural areas around the city can register equally difficult-to-bear values
00:13:05where there were extensive asphalted surfaces, both in
00:13:08the city and in Florești or Apahida, these have come to
00:13:11function as heat islands. Urban heat
00:13:14islands, this is a bigger
00:13:18challenge. We must be very, very careful that any kind of urban
00:13:21regeneration plans and real estate developments
00:13:25include from the very beginning shading
00:13:28measures or an increase in the number
00:13:31of trees. Besides the heatwave, researchers have also studied another phenomenon that
00:13:35has increased in intensity. Short and abundant rains, which
00:13:38represent the second major problem, generating large accumulations of water on
00:13:42streets due to the soil's inability to absorb it. In
00:13:45the case of abundant rainfall, occurring in very
00:13:49short periods of time, usually, water accumulates because
00:13:52the drainage system cannot cope. To counteract the effects of
00:13:56climate change, specialists have devised a package of concrete measures to
00:14:00be implemented from now on. Among the priorities are
00:14:03the arrangement of sponge parks capable of retaining rainwater,
00:14:06the removal of asphalt from certain squares, and the imposition of new,
00:14:10stricter rules for real estate developers regarding the minimum share of
00:14:14unpaved green space. An example of landscaping is the
00:14:18Feroviarilor Park. The designers started from the very
00:14:21beginning with the idea of draining in case of
00:14:25rapid foundations to drain the excess water through a
00:14:28system of diversion towards the lakes in the park. The UBB specialists' study in partnership
00:14:32with the Cluj Metropolitan Area was financed through European funds, and
00:14:36the data collected now managed to attract new funding to
00:14:39identify even more solutions to counteract the effects of
00:14:42global warming. These will be proposed to the authorities in the
00:14:46metropolitan area to be implemented.
00:14:49Honestly, I wonder who managed to sleep well last night,
00:14:53given that at this hour 7:14, it's somewhere around
00:14:5625°C in Timișoara or Oradea, 23
00:15:0024°C in the capital. We had a tropical night. What
00:15:03awaits us in the coming hours, Dana Iancu tells us, and we hope she comes with good
00:15:06news. Dana, good morning. Good morning, Marius. Welcome
00:15:10back. Don't ask me like yesterday how many colors you have on the map? Three. Today I know
00:15:13yesterday I put only one color. I know today as well.
00:15:17The same rhythm, the same heat that will intensify and because you
00:15:21mentioned the night. Not just one
00:15:26restless night we've had, but several nights of heatwaves, are the rains coming
00:15:29today? The rains are coming today, in most of the country they will
00:15:33be in the evening, temperatures will not
00:15:36drop significantly, some storms in
00:15:40the mountains, we see, we have the same
00:15:42rhythm. We start with the yellow code which
00:15:46is valid for Dobrogea, the north and east of Muntenia,
00:15:50as well as eastern Transylvania, here maximum temperatures will reach again
00:15:5337°, and on the coast temperatures will be
00:15:57between 30 and 32°. Thermal
00:16:00discomfort will be high, and the night will remain tropical.
00:16:04The orange code targets Moldova, Oltenia,
00:16:07most of Transylvania and the southwest and center of
00:16:10Muntenia, in these regions the heatwave will be persistent with
00:16:14temperatures up to 38° and
00:16:17an accentuated thermal discomfort, but the most severe
00:16:21is the red code extended today in Maramureș,
00:16:24Satu Mare, Sălaj, Bihor, Arad, Timiș and
00:16:27Caraș Severin. Here extreme temperatures of up to
00:16:3141° in the shade will be recorded, and nights will
00:16:34remain tropical with minimums of 25.
00:16:3726°. In addition, we have a yellow
00:16:41code for significant downpours in
00:16:44northern and central Moldova, in Transylvania, Maramureș,
00:16:47Crișana, Banat, Oltenia. Here is the western half of
00:16:51Muntenia, starting at 12:00 PM until the evening there will
00:16:55be storms, electrical discharges and hail. If you
00:16:59leave the house even in the morning, prepare
00:17:03for another fiery day. At this hour,
00:17:05temperatures are quite high,
00:17:0821°C in Suceava, 19
00:17:1120°C in Iași, 23°C in Constanța,
00:17:1522°C also in the capital, 20°C in
00:17:19Craiova, in the west of the country it's 23°C in Timișoara and
00:17:22Oradea, in the center a bit cooler but not
00:17:25significantly, 18°C in Cluj-Napoca and
00:17:28Sibiu.
00:17:32Dana, thank you very much for all this information. We'll meet again a little
00:17:35later. International news
00:17:37now: a new level of danger, that's how
00:17:41German authorities categorize the explosive drone incident
00:17:44discovered last night at Leipzig/Halle Airport, one
00:17:48of the largest logistics centers for cargo transport in Europe.
00:17:52The incident is treated as a terrorist one. We'll be back with breaking
00:17:55statements
00:17:56immediately.
00:17:59Spanish authorities are on high alert for a new wave of migrants
00:18:03who could assault the two enclaves in Africa. After last
00:18:07week, tens of thousands of people invaded the Ceuta enclave,
00:18:10now Moroccans are urged on social networks to resume
00:18:13the assault.
00:18:21A new level of danger, that's how German authorities classify
00:18:25the explosive drone incident discovered last night at
00:18:28Leipzig-Halle Airport, one of the largest
00:18:31logistics centers for freight transport in Europe. The incident is treated
00:18:35as a terrorist one, and the warning from internal security officials,
00:18:39who do not rule out the involvement of foreign powers in hybrid
00:18:43threats, now this also comes as a very serious
00:18:46alarm signal. The North Atlantic Alliance has been informed about
00:18:50the incident.
00:18:53The drone was discovered by an airport employee in the security area
00:18:57of the southern runway, near a Ukrainian cargo plane.
00:19:00According to authorities, during takeoff, the cargo
00:19:04aircraft collided with an unknown flying object. In
00:19:07the vicinity of the airport, all flights were temporarily
00:19:11suspended, the southern runway was closed, but
00:19:14identification of the drone and the
00:19:17suspicion that it could be an
00:19:20explosive charge, the police, the federal police,
00:19:23the state police, the federal police, the bomb disposal unit
00:19:26of the federal police was put on standby
00:19:29and has also then...
00:19:32in operation.
00:19:34Quality, drone sightings, drone threats,
00:19:58also in a hybrid context,
00:20:02we know this from the past. that a drone
00:20:06armed with explosives
00:20:09is located here at an airport
00:20:12premises. operation remains open.
00:20:15The diplomatic representative of Ukraine in
00:20:23Berlin blamed Moscow. German
00:20:27airports are on maximum alert after a series of unauthorized
00:20:30drone overflights, in areas such as military
00:20:34installations, energy terminals, logistics
00:20:38companies. Leipzig Airport is a major transport
00:20:42hub, including for military aid deliveries
00:20:45to Ukraine.
00:20:48The remains of a Russian drone were
00:20:50found in the south of the Republic of Moldova, in the area of Văleni village, Cahul
00:20:54district, approximately 40 km from Galați and
00:20:5725 km from the border with Ukraine. Following the preliminary
00:21:01examination of the remains, specialists determined, based on the construction
00:21:04method, materials used, and markings, that it was a
00:21:08Geran 2 type drone, the Russian version of the Iranian
00:21:11Shahed with a long attack range. All fragments were
00:21:15collected and noted for a new expert examination.
00:21:18Specialists from the technical explosive section of the Republic of Moldova Police
00:21:22continue investigations to determine
00:21:25the trajectory of this drone.
00:21:28The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chișinău condemned the violation of the Republic
00:21:32of Moldova's airspace and denounced a serious
00:21:35risk to national and
00:21:37regional security.
00:21:41Here, there was an alert on Mamaia beach after an object resembling a
00:21:45drone was observed in the water. Tourists called 112, and
00:21:48police and representatives of the Constanța Emergency Situations
00:21:51Inspectorate intervened urgently and secured the area.
00:21:55Coast Guard representatives confirmed that it was a drone
00:21:59remnant without explosive material. It has not
00:22:02yet been established what its
00:22:03origin is.
00:22:07Spanish authorities are on high alert for a new wave of
00:22:10migrants who could assault the two enclaves in Africa.
00:22:14After last week, tens of thousands of people invaded the
00:22:18Ceuta enclave, now Moroccans are urged on social media
00:22:22to resume the assault. Moreover, migrants who were sent
00:22:25back to Morocco say they would like to go to Romania or
00:22:29Russia.
00:22:32On social media, messages are spreading encouraging Moroccans
00:22:35to continue forcing European borders.
00:22:39Some Moroccans, rejected from Ceuta, say they would like to live in
00:22:43Romania or Russia. The fact is that Spanish authorities are
00:22:47on alert. Social networks in Morocco are full
00:22:51of messages that push people towards
00:22:54a new invasion of Ceuta or Melilla. Al
00:22:57Hajmah, is that message to
00:23:00invade Spanish territories, Melilla and
00:23:04Ceuta on August 15th, the Spanish police
00:23:07have already sent planes full of police
00:23:11to Melilla to prepare the territory and border
00:23:15protection with Morocco. 22 European
00:23:17countries, including Romania, have criticized the migration
00:23:21policy of Spanish Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
00:23:24Sanchez, in turn, said that partners in the Union are showing
00:23:28selfishness. In Italy, although Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni threatened
00:23:32to reintroduce controls for travelers coming from Spain,
00:23:36the situation has not changed at
00:23:37airports.
00:23:43Meanwhile, in Ceuta, there are still illegal immigrants. Among
00:23:47the tens of thousands of Moroccans, several hundred minors
00:23:58also remained on the streets of Ceuta a week after the invasion
00:24:01of Spanish territory. These unaccompanied minors are being
00:24:05checked by Spanish
00:24:08authorities.
00:24:10Greece breathes a sigh of relief after
00:24:13weeks of devastating fires that endangered
00:24:16both residents and tourists. Firefighters managed to stabilize
00:24:20the outbreaks on the Greek islands, but the crisis is moving to other parts of
00:24:24Europe. The flames have gotten out of control in the Netherlands, France and
00:24:27Italy, where evacuations continue, and intervention
00:24:31teams are fighting a race against
00:24:34time.
00:24:36In Greece, it was the first day that the fires were kept under control. Romanian firefighters
00:24:40participated alongside the Greek ones in missions to extinguish the fires that
00:24:44destroyed over 6,000 hectares of vegetation.
00:24:47Authorities are now assessing the damage. Problems are instead
00:24:50in the Netherlands, where a fire broke out in a
00:24:54approximately 100 hectares of forest. The blaze is still
00:25:00people evacuated from the flames.
00:25:14after the outbreak at Belgardan Dioa got out of control. Dozens of
00:25:17people have been moved to safe areas until the situation returns
00:25:21to normal.
00:25:25In Italy, firefighters are fighting to extinguish a forest fire that broke out in
00:25:28Valmadrera, in the province of Lecco in the north of the country. Images show how
00:25:32the intervention teams' aircraft is resupplying with water from Lake
00:25:35Como. In Spain, where the most violent wildfires in recent
00:25:39years have occurred, a family of farmers was met by three donkeys who
00:25:43survived
00:25:44the catastrophe.
00:25:55at the supermarket will start to look different, not
00:25:58the products are changing, but the packaging. The European Union
00:26:01introduces some of the strictest rules to date regarding
00:26:04the packaging and labeling of these products. The goal is
00:26:08simple: less plastic, less waste and packaging
00:26:12that can be recycled more easily. The new rules apply to
00:26:15all companies that produce, import or sell
00:26:18packaged products in the European Union. For consumers,
00:26:22changes will be visible directly on the shelf, many products will have
00:26:25smaller and lighter packaging. They will contain less
00:26:28unnecessary material and labeling will become clearer.
00:26:31The regulation limits so-called excess packaging, i.e. situations
00:26:35where the box is much larger than the product inside.
00:26:39In addition, for certain food packaging, chemical substances from the
00:26:43fas category are restricted, considered difficult to eliminate from the environment and
00:26:46associated with health
00:26:49risks. The changes are huge for companies too, from now on,
00:26:53not only the producer is responsible for the conformity of the packaging, and
00:26:56attention, the entire commercial chain, importers, distributors
00:27:00and traders. Products that do not comply with these new rules can be
00:27:04withdrawn from sale and in some cases even
00:27:07recalled from customers. Each state will
00:27:10also set the level of fines. Why did
00:27:13Brussels decide on these measures? Because Europe annually produces almost
00:27:17190 kg of packaging waste per
00:27:20inhabitant, and the quantity
00:27:23is constantly increasing. Packaging is one of the
00:27:27biggest consumers of raw materials and one of the
00:27:30main sources of municipal waste. The new
00:27:33regulation aims to reduce waste and transform the European economy into a more
00:27:37circular one. For Romanians, the effects will appear
00:27:40gradually. In the coming years, we will see more and more reusable packaging,
00:27:44less single-use plastic and products designed to be recycled more
00:27:48easily. Experts say that in the short term some
00:27:52companies will have additional costs for adaptation, but in the long term
00:27:55the objective is waste reduction and a more efficient recycling
00:27:59system throughout the European Union. Maybe
00:28:03it's not a bad idea, we have many cases of very large packaging
00:28:07and a small product in the middle. We'll see what
00:28:10happens. Let's move on, Mirabela Grădinaru, Nicușor Dan's
00:28:13partner, published her declaration of assets on the presidential
00:28:17administration's website. The announcement was made by the head of state, who thus wants to avoid
00:28:21any speculation. The transparency exercise comes against
00:28:24the background of heated debates in parliament on the Anii law where
00:28:28an amendment submitted by Aur directly targets the president's
00:28:31partner.
00:28:34According to the declaration published on the presidential administration's website,
00:28:38Mirabela Grădinaru owns a plot of land in Moara Vlăsiei
00:28:41Ilfov. She inherited various shares of several plots of land, two houses and a
00:28:45vineyard from her grandparents and
00:28:48father, all in Vaslui county. The president's partner has two cars from
00:28:522016 and 1992.
00:28:55In the last year, her income from the private company where she is employed
00:28:59was almost 16,000 RON, i.e. around three.
00:29:031800 RON per month. She also has shares worth 4000
00:29:06euros through a program for employees. In her
00:29:09declaration of interests, Mirabela Grădinaru stated that she is the president
00:29:13of the civic organization SOS Orașul, which she lent
00:29:17116,000 RON. According to the current
00:29:20legislation in force, the president's partner is not
00:29:24obliged to submit a declaration of
00:29:27assets or interests. However, President
00:29:30Nicușor Dan wrote in a public message on social networks that
00:29:34he is doing it in the spirit of transparency and to
00:29:37remove any speculation. At
00:29:40the debate on the Anii Law in parliament, Aur representatives, with the
00:29:44support of PSD, introduced an amendment that directly targets Mirabela
00:29:47Grădinaru. According to it, people who have relationships with
00:29:51dignitaries similar to spouses will be obliged to submit
00:29:55declarations of assets and interests. The president wants
00:29:58to send an informal signal by
00:30:01pointing to these
00:30:03changes as potentially
00:30:06unconstitutional. In fact, the proposals that
00:30:10were formulated, namely,
00:30:13the inclusion of life partners in the declaration of
00:30:16assets and interests, are not found in the civil
00:30:20code. Mirabela Grădinaru appeared in several public
00:30:23actions alongside President Nicu Șordan and represented
00:30:27Romania at the White House at a summit organized by the first lady of the United
00:30:30States, Melania Trump.
00:30:33The Integrity Law passed the Senate with a large majority, but not without
00:30:37political scandal, amendments mutually supported by PSD and
00:30:41Aur, sparked the dispute between parliamentarians, one
00:30:44of them provides for the termination of the mandates of elected officials declared
00:30:47incompatible before the law came into force, a provision that
00:30:51USR considers directed against the mayor of
00:30:54Timișoara, Dominic Fritz. USR has already announced that it will challenge
00:30:58the law at the Constitutional Court.
