00:01:04preparing for the feast of Saint Parascheva. Iași has
00:01:07shared the joy of faith and the prayers of thousands of
00:01:11pilgrims. They have already come to
00:01:33Bukovina and we will discover
00:01:37or St. Simeon the Red
00:01:46under the title Catolica. Ciprian Dumea invites us to discover
00:01:50places, people, and events from the life of Catholic communities in
00:01:54Faith program. The pilgrimage from the country and abroad. Today about the pilgrimage
00:01:57of the relics of Saint Francis of
00:02:09initially by Saint George of
00:02:16The year 2026 represents a jubilee year for the Franciscan
00:02:19Order. It marks 800 years since the death of the founder
00:02:23of the Order, Saint Francis of Assisi. On this occasion, the members
00:02:26of the order wanted to mark this jubilee year in a very
00:02:30special way. It is for the first time that the relics of Saint
00:02:34Francis, placed in the crypt of the Basilica of Assisi, have been
00:02:37brought out for public veneration. During
00:02:40these 800 years, the earthly remains of the Poor Little Man of
00:02:43Assisi, as Saint Francis is also known, have been brought
00:02:47out several times, either for
00:02:50Her merciful love for re-authentication, or for various internal events,
00:02:53or for the maintenance of the place where they are placed, but
00:02:56they have never been exposed for public veneration. Therefore,
00:03:00this jubilee of 800 years since his death meant not
00:03:04only the public exposure for veneration in Assisi, but
00:03:07also the carrying of parts of his relics throughout
00:03:10the world. In this context, our country, which has a
00:03:13significant presence of the Franciscan family, in all its
00:03:17branches, has been hosting a special relic of Saint
00:03:21Francis for more than two months. This is
00:03:23the first time that a relic of Saint Francis is
00:03:27in Romania on a national
00:03:30pilgrimage. It is a small
00:03:32fragment of the ashes of his
00:03:35body, excineribus
00:03:38corporis, preserved in an oval,
00:03:42gilded reliquary, fixed
00:03:45on a bust with the face of Saint Francis. He
00:03:49is considered the messenger of peace and I believe that
00:03:52it was a pilgrimage of
00:03:54peace in a world where in
00:03:58the name of justice, many conflicts are initiated. He tells
00:04:02his brothers, Saint Francis tells them to
00:04:04often give up their
00:04:08own rights for the sake of peace. After
00:04:11visiting several regions of the country already, in these days of
00:04:14October, the relic is on pilgrimage in the Roman Catholic
00:04:18Archdiocese of Bucharest, with a special frequency right in
00:04:21the capital. On this occasion, Catholic faithful and not only
00:04:24them, were able to participate in various communities in
00:04:27pilgrimages specially organized by members.
00:04:33Among the visited places is the parish of Saint Therese of the Child
00:04:36Jesus, where one of the most numerous Catholic communities in
00:04:40Bucharest is located, and even though the pilgrimage schedule was
00:04:44set on a working day and even during a time when
00:04:47people are coming home from school or work,
00:04:51nevertheless, numerous faithful were present both at the arrival
00:04:54of the relic and throughout the rest of the day, the church remaining
00:04:58open until the last
00:06:24of Saint Francis of Assisi, which began on July
00:06:2731st, after visiting over 60 parishes and
00:06:30communities, will conclude on October
00:06:3317th.
00:06:40And now the moment has come, dear friends, to offer you some
00:06:43news from the religious actuality in our country.
00:07:01Samurcășești Monastery was last Sunday the host of a
00:07:04special event. The local proclamation of the canonization
00:07:08of the Holy Martyr Evloghia. A council of
00:07:11three hierarchs celebrated the Divine Liturgy, during which
00:07:15the synodal Tomos of canonization was read and the
00:07:18icon of the Holy Martyr Evloghia was presented.
00:07:21His Grace Father Paisie Sinaitul read the message
00:07:25addressed by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel to
00:07:28the monastic community of Samurcăști, on
00:07:31the occasion of the local proclamation of the canonization of the Holy Martyr
00:07:34Evloghia. Through her activity, Saint
00:07:37Pious Evloghia was a
00:07:40blessing sent upon the poor,
00:07:44upon the villages of Wallachia, and upon the church
00:07:48tested in times of atheistic, communist
00:07:51persecution. Analyzing her spiritual
00:07:54work, three
00:07:58important aspects emerge.
00:08:03the poor people, her permanent
00:08:06missionary work, and her confession of
00:08:09Christ at the cost of her life. The love
00:08:12shown to the poor and sick by the Holy
00:08:16Venerable Martyr Evloghia
00:08:20was the fruit of a heart that had itself
00:08:24been helped by God. Through
00:08:27the intercession of the Mother of God and Saint Great Martyr
00:08:31Catherine. She lay for
00:08:34entire years without strength, gravely ill, knowing
00:08:38what poverty, illness, and the forgetfulness
00:08:42of others mean. That is why, in the face
00:08:46of the hungry, the orphan, or the sick,
00:08:49the venerable woman did not see a stranger, but she saw
00:08:53Christ, who helped her and gave her strength to
00:08:57do good to those around her. At the end of
00:09:01the liturgy, the clergy and the faithful venerated
00:09:04the icon of the Venerable Martyr Evloghia and her
00:09:07holy relics which were brought to the monastery on the
00:09:11eve.
00:09:19Sunday, October 4th, the local proclamation of the canonization
00:09:23of Saint Pious Antonina
00:09:26took place at Tismana Monastery. The Divine Liturgy was officiated by an episcopal
00:09:29council led by His Eminence Father
00:09:33Irineu, Metropolitan of Oltenia. Saint
00:09:36Antonina, whose baptismal name was Ilinca, entered
00:09:39monasticism in 1950, at the age of two.
00:09:50Until her canonization and her inclusion in
00:09:53the list of saints, of holy
00:09:56women, proclaimed by the Holy
00:09:59Synod, through the care of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, Saint
00:10:03Antonina was even little known as a
00:10:06saint in this holy monastery. The nuns
00:10:10knew her by her deeds,
00:10:13by her piety, by
00:10:16her efforts, but she was much more, she was a
00:10:20model of holiness, a model
00:10:23of spiritual peace, of
00:10:26unceasing prayer, she was ready for sacrifice,
00:10:30ready for self-sacrifice for all things. She presented
00:10:33herself before God, full of
00:10:36love and affection. Saint
00:10:39Antonina passed away on December 23rd,
00:10:422011, and the Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church
00:10:46canonized her in 2025,
00:10:49along with 15 other holy
00:10:52women.
00:11:03At the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iași, the pilgrimage to the relics of Saint
00:11:07Pious Parascheva is in full swing. For
00:11:10this year's celebration, the relics of Saint Paisie were brought
00:11:14from Sihăstria Monastery. The reliquaries
00:11:17with the relics of Saint Parascheva and Saint Paisie
00:11:20were carried in procession and placed for
00:11:23veneration at the Metropolitan Cathedral on Thursday, October
00:11:268th, and this moment marked the official
00:11:29opening of the pilgrimage. Tens of thousands of
00:11:33pilgrims from the country and abroad have so far venerated
00:11:36the relics of Saints Parascheva and Paisie from
00:11:40Sihăstria and
00:11:43the Metropolitan Cathedral. This morning, the service of
00:11:47consecration of the church of Saints Emperor Constantine and Helena,
00:11:50Galata in Iași, is being performed, and starting
00:11:53at 7:00 PM, the traditional procession, the Way of
00:11:57the Saints, will take place. The culminating moment of the pilgrimage will
00:12:00be the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on October
00:12:0414th, the feast of Saint Pious
00:12:07Parascheva, which you will be able to watch live on
00:12:10TVR 1, starting at 9:30
00:12:14in a special edition of the Universe of
00:12:19Iași will end on October 15th in the evening,
00:12:23after the Vespers service. We continue the universe
00:22:31to feminine figures of holiness, today we propose
00:22:34that we discover Saint Pious Filofteea of
00:22:38Pasărea. A true practitioner of eremitic
00:22:41monasticism, she remains through the ages a perfect icon
00:22:44of a Christian mother, being the one who gave our
00:22:48nation the holy hierarch
00:22:50Calinic of Cernica. The Holy Synod canonized her at the session
00:22:54of July 1st, 2025, and
00:22:56starting this year, she is inscribed in the Orthodox calendar on
00:23:20is primarily a devoted Christian mother,
00:23:23who sacrificed for her children,
00:23:26and also a great
00:23:29intercessor before God,
00:23:32who proved to be a swift helper to those who
00:23:36sought her help. I underwent a rather
00:23:40serious surgical intervention, and during
00:23:43the
00:23:45intervention, in the period when it was quite
00:23:49serious and I was resuscitated next to the bed, I saw myself on a white
00:23:52hospital bed and next to the bed was a saint
00:23:56dressed in such beautiful golden garments
00:23:59and I didn't know and I asked her: Who
00:24:02are you? and she said, Saint Filofteea, a
00:24:06woman 40, 50 years old, so
00:24:09gentle, so beautiful and with an
00:24:13extraordinary peace,
00:24:16that I wouldn't have left there.
00:24:34Devotion to Saint
00:24:37Filofteea began even when she was not known to be
00:24:40a saint. Yes, she remained in the consciousness of Pasărea Monastery
00:24:44for 200 years. This shows a spiritual
00:24:47imprint that she left on the souls of
00:24:50the nuns, the nuns who were contemporary with her and who in
00:24:54turn transmitted to subsequent generations
00:24:57this
00:25:00appreciation, this devotion they had for
00:25:03the schemanun Filofteea. It's no small
00:25:06thing to identify this devotion at a distance of
00:25:10200 years and some information to
00:25:13be transmitted from generation to generation to our
00:25:17days, although it was never written down. Because we also have
00:25:20such information that came through the thread of tradition,
00:25:24tradition which is dynamic and which is very important in recording
00:25:28the biographies of saints. Saint
00:25:31Pious Filofteea of Pasărea, Floarea by her baptismal
00:25:34name, was born in the middle of the 18th century, into a
00:25:38devout family from Bucharest. She married
00:25:41young to Antonia Antonescu, a descendant of a
00:25:44noble family from the capital, and together they had four
00:25:48children.
00:25:59They lived in Bucharest in the district or neighborhood, as we would call it today, of Saint Visarion.
00:26:02And the fact that she had connections with other
00:26:05noble families can be found from the
00:26:09event of the baptism of her second son, namely
00:26:12the boy Constantin, who would become Saint
00:26:15Calinic. The godmother was
00:26:18Luxandra Văcărescu, from the Văcărescu family,
00:26:21a family that gave Saint Ianache Văcărescu as a
00:26:25saint, who was martyred together with Saint
00:26:29Constantin Brâncoveanu. It was a family that,
00:26:32being in Bucharest,
00:26:36living in the Saint Visarion neighborhood,
00:26:38educated her four
00:26:42children, sending them to school and taking
00:26:45all care that they would
00:26:48grow beautifully and bear
00:26:51fruit in the church, in society, and in
00:26:55the family. The image and example
00:26:58of Saint Filofteea, the mother of Saint Calinic, can throughout
00:27:03time, an example for us, those of
00:27:07today, and especially for mothers, who, although
00:27:10they are, somewhat caught
00:27:14in the tumult of this
00:27:17modern life, we still find quite
00:27:20many Christian mothers who prioritize
00:27:24the education of their children
00:27:27first.
00:27:29Among the children of Saint Filoftea,
00:27:33two of them chose to embrace the
00:27:36monastic life. It is, of course, about the holy hierarch
00:27:40Calinic from Cernica and about the one who
00:27:43would later bear the name Akachie,
00:27:46who was initially a secular priest and later chose to join
00:27:50the community of Cernica monastery along with his brother,
00:27:53Saint Hierarch Calinic. Saint Calinic from Cernica went to
00:27:57the monastery at a young
00:27:59age, at 16 years old,
00:28:03going through all the stages of forming a
00:28:06monk in that wonderful community led
00:28:12Cernica and later by
00:28:15Abbot Iachint of Cernica and later by Abbot Timotei, during
00:28:19whose time Saint Calinic also entered
00:28:23monasticism. After the early passing to eternity
00:28:26of her husband Antonie, with the blessing of the holy hierarch
00:28:30Calinic, Saint Filoftea also chose the path of the monastery and
00:28:34entered the community of Pasărea Skete, a place of
00:28:37prayer built by the monks from Cernica,
00:28:40specifically to offer shelter and peace to their mothers
00:28:44and sisters. From
00:28:47the life of Saint Calinic, we know that
00:28:50his mother, after becoming a widow,
00:28:54with the blessing of her son, Saint
00:28:58Calinic, went to Pasărea Skete
00:29:01where... it was a place of prayer and it is a place of prayer
00:29:05for nuns
00:29:07who, like the ancient
00:29:10women in the tradition and history
00:29:14of the church, have kept and keep the lamp of faith
00:29:18burning, being living models for
00:29:21generations and generations of young women,
00:29:24of mothers, who
00:29:27have been like apostles of
00:29:31our ancestral church in this
00:29:35Pasărea Skete, a skete which
00:29:38was under the blessing of the monastery and
00:29:42the abbot of Cernica monastery. Saint Calinic built
00:29:45a kathisma for his mother, following the
00:29:49Athonite model, kathisma meaning a house with several
00:29:52cells and a chapel, and later in her old age,
00:29:56to alleviate the infirmities of his mother's old age,
00:29:59Saint Calinic also built...
00:30:03a well in front of this kathisma. Unfortunately, they were not
00:30:06preserved, but they remained as a living memory in the minds
00:30:08of the residents of Pasărea Monastery. Although
00:30:12she took monastic vows at an advanced age, her rich
00:30:16spiritual life cultivated since childhood helped
00:30:20Saint Filofteia to naturally adapt to the strict rule
00:30:23of Pasărea Skete. With humility, she went through all
00:30:27the stages of obedience specific to a novice
00:30:30nun. She then received
00:30:32tonsure into the great schema with the name Schemanun
00:30:35Filoftea, quickly becoming beloved and
00:30:39valued by the entire community for her steadfast dedication
00:30:42to ceaseless prayer.
00:30:45In a document from
00:30:481828, when
00:30:51the abbess at that time, Iustina, due to old age,
00:30:55withdrew from her duties as abbess.
00:30:58The council elected another abbess, Schemanun
00:31:02Raxia, and this election
00:31:06paper was sent to the local metropolitan for.
