00:02:09like, she just loved
00:02:11of everyone, no matter who they were. She was

00:02:20have, it doesn't matter where you're from, it doesn't matter
00:02:24any of that. The confirmation of Dolly Partton's death was

00:02:28in a post on social media. by her family. I'm representing the

00:02:33of Owen's family today, announcing the
00:02:35of passing of my aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, sister, Sis,
00:02:39Aunt Granny to one generation and GG to the
00:02:42next. Major stars immediately started
00:02:46writing about her online. Elton John called her unique and
00:02:49irreplaceable. Celene Dion said she had one
00:02:53of the most joyful voices the world had ever
00:02:55known. And Beatles legend Paul Mccartney

00:04:25of Dolly died just year after her husband Carl Dean. They've
00:04:29been... married for six decades. On his death, Dolly wrote,
00:04:33"He's in God's arms now, and I'm okay with
00:04:35that. I a person of
00:04:39faith, and I truly believe that I'm going to see him again someday, and I
00:04:43see him every day in my memories and in my
00:04:45of heart and in all the things that we used to do and all the things that we
00:04:49built together.
00:04:53Just months after her husband's death, fears for Dolly's own
00:04:56health started to appear in the press, prompting. of
00:05:00reassurance, the good news
00:05:04is i'm responding really well to me and treatments
00:05:08and i'm improving every day. early
00:05:11august 26 she posted about her upcoming
00:05:15projects, including a Dolly Partton musical, which is due to open on
00:05:19Broadway in December 2026. I will be there
00:05:23as much as I can be, and of course, good lord will and the
00:05:26creek don't rise, I will definitely be there on the opening
00:05:30night, and she was looking forward to the opening of her hotel in
00:05:34Nashville, from Rags to Round Stones,
00:05:38I've been blessed with a live full of stories, and now I
00:05:41finally get... share them all with you in one
00:05:44place. i think the
00:05:48first time we realized that it was actually something more serious was when in May when
00:05:52her Vegas residency was cancelled because that is very big
00:05:56thing at that point we knew she wasn't well enough to perform probably ever
00:06:00again and in recent times there've been a few things she's
00:06:04missed she missed her 80th anniversary celebration at the granddol oppree
00:06:08even i think just over 10 days before she died she was meant to be at
00:06:12her. park in Pigeon forge, Dollywood, and opening one
00:06:15their new rides and she pulled out the last
00:06:17minute.
00:06:22Her death, after what was described as a brief battle with cancer, was a
00:06:26shock to millions. We texted each other straight away, being like,
00:06:29oh my god, immediately
00:06:31you start to reminise about all the small and big things that have
00:06:34happened throughout her career and throughout our career that she has
00:06:38been unknowingly very influencing. She's got such an
00:06:41amazing story. of how she started out, how she has like
00:06:45impacted the industry as a whole so
00:06:49positively,
00:06:53so just how could a woman from rural tennessee spark such an
00:06:56outporing of grief from around the
00:06:58world. Dolly, Rebecca
00:07:02Pardon, was born in Tennessee into a large family, she described
00:07:06in her own words, as dirt poor. I grew up in the great smoky
00:07:10mountains of East Tennessee a family of 12. children, we had six
00:07:14girls and six boys and of course we were just farm folks and we
00:07:17didn't uh have things that money could buy and of course we didn't make
00:07:21money,
00:07:21we grew our own food and we just made our living from the
00:07:24land. she said she was inspired to sing by
00:07:27one of her uncles who suggested she did one day and then obviously she had
00:07:31a real talent. in this footage shot by
00:07:35an amateur filmmaker in 1961 Dolly plays for local radio
00:07:39station in Knoxville Tennessee. world famous
00:07:43grand - america's oldest and most famous country

00:07:51at the age of 13 she made her first appearance at the home of country
00:07:55music, the grand old operat, so I just walked up to Jimmy C Newman
00:07:59and I said Jimmy, I want to sing, so he told Johnny Cash that I was going to
00:08:03sing, and Johnny introduced me and I sang my little heart out and I just tore the
00:08:07house down, I know now it was because I was little, but I just sung it over and over and
00:08:11over, boy I thought then I was going. be a big star. the
00:08:14grand all up pr was was very much about family and things and if an uncle
00:08:18knew someone then they would have said this is going to be worth doing. you when you
00:08:22go to the up pry it's quite often there'll be somebody there who's a relative of
00:08:26someone famous. it was the start of a long
00:08:30association with the opry and nashville was where she met her husband
00:08:34carl. she wanted to be a star and she found someone
00:08:38who was something of recluse and was quite happy if she wasn't
00:08:41taking. him to
00:08:43things. Dolly is not only
00:08:47a great singer, but she's a fine songwriter too, and this is
00:08:51number you wrote. Nashville is a hard town to break into in the
00:08:55music industry, it takes a lot, so she had that talent, she put
00:08:59the hard work in, and she was successful and kind of took
00:09:03those opportunities. I would be doing my music, right my songs, if I had to
00:09:07sell them out the trunk of my car, and I've done that in the early days
00:09:11when I was young and... trying to get things going, so I
00:09:15would do it no matter what, even if I had to take
00:09:17another
00:09:19job,
00:09:23her music was rooted in personal experiences of love and
00:09:27loss, like Jolen, for example,
00:09:31there was a lot of songs at that time about like being sassy to the woman
00:09:35or you ain't woman enough to take my man and she brought a song out
00:09:38that was empathetic to the woman, she was like understanding. why the
00:09:42woman would take her man, but she was pleading from a
00:09:46vulnerable perspective rather rather than from an angry perspective, or like
00:09:50woman hating spec, yeah, so she was still a woman's
00:09:53woman,
00:09:59dolly was storyteller who had turned to her own family for
00:10:03material, her up bringing
00:10:07in the smoky mountains, lots of siblings, growing up very, very poor, she
00:10:10wrote songs like the coat of... colors, which is about her mama who made her
00:10:14this coat. she writes about being poor, about not knowing how to read.
00:10:18it was very much rooted in family values and she
00:10:22continued that in all of her writing throughout her.
00:10:25career, the most important thing in her life from
00:10:29the beginning to the end was her family, she didn't go off and find
00:10:33a diff different husband, she she
00:10:35didn't change the way she was, i think she wanted to be
00:10:39dolly parton professionally, but privately she was dolly dean,
00:10:43which was the name on all the paperwork we had, because again
00:10:47if she went through passport control, looking as she
00:10:51normally did, not as dolly partton, no one would have realized who she was,
00:10:55In her lifetime, Dolly Pardon wrote more than 3,000 songs and
00:10:59sold over 100 million records, becoming one the most
00:11:02successful country artists of all time. I'm proud to be woman in this
00:11:06business. Dolly started out and continued, no matter how big she
00:11:10got, writing her own material and being
00:11:14the voice of her own songs, and obviously we've heard some massive
00:11:18covers like, I will all always love you, um, and people will
00:11:21cover Dolly forever, we've covered Jolen and 95. and
00:11:25hopefully many
00:11:26more,
00:11:33dolly wrote songs that other artists were desperate to get their hands
00:11:36on, including stars like the king, elvis
00:11:39Presley.
00:11:43Elvis heard the song and wanted to record it and he was very keen,
00:11:47but the manager rang up and said, if Elvis records a song, we have half the
00:11:51publishing, and Dolly said no.
00:11:58we always
00:12:01love you, so this is the business side of her
00:12:05coming through
00:12:06for for sure, and then several years after that
00:12:10um, witten houston sang it in the
00:12:13bodyguard, and it was itself like 20 million copies that
00:12:16single, when she brought country to
00:12:20Glastonbury, her popularity pulled in an enormous crowd,
00:12:24among them were the... country act Ward
00:12:26Thomas. In
00:12:292014 was the year that we first released our first ever
00:12:33album, and it was the same year that she played
00:12:36Gustenbury and pulled the biggest audience the weekend. And I
00:12:40think with two young British girls saying, "We want to do country
00:12:43music," and going out into the world and saying, "Hey, will you take us
00:12:47seriously?" I think if if it wasn't for people like Dolly or specifically
00:12:51Dolly and what she had done before, people probably wouldn't have.
00:13:03We have different views regarding a third world war. I believe
00:13:07that Putin has already started it. Being able to inspire someone is
00:13:11always the greatest joy. I... I saw Sisa one time at the Grammies
00:13:15and she said that she studied some of my songs for their songwriting and I thought that that was
00:13:19the biggest compliment ever. My support for Ukraine is
00:13:23unwavering.

00:14:14seriously. It is kind of work without fear, because it's
00:14:18fun for me, it's like, if I fail, it's no big deal, if something don't work out, I'm not
00:14:22afraid of of failure, because to me, I never feel like
00:14:24a los. but Dolly was not a loser, addition to
00:14:28her musical success, she became an acclaimed actress, and she
00:14:32was also behind many business ventures. Her last public
00:14:36appearance was at the opening of Dolly's tennessian travel stop. We're
00:14:40not trying to compete with anybody, we don't think we'll have to, we think we're going
00:14:44to have everything that you want or
00:14:46need. But her most famous
00:14:50business venture is Dollywood, a theme park near where she was raised in the
00:14:54Smokey. of tennessee, come on down to
00:14:58Dollywood, come on down to Dollywood, you'll have fun and we'll
00:15:02treat you good, so come on down to Dollywood, it's better on fast songs,
00:15:06paradise road's not that fast, my as well play the bongos while I'm
00:15:09here, I took the family to dollywood
00:15:12in 2003 and I did ask how many of Dolly's relatives
00:15:16work here and it was over 40 people, she was employing, she
00:15:20had this enormous number of relatives and people that she knew and she was very
00:15:24concerned. to help them, not doing things for them, but
00:15:27giving them jobs and things like that. Dolly's appeal reached far
00:15:31beyond music, her support for minority groups, particularly in the
00:15:35LGBTQ community,
00:15:37Legendary
00:15:45her 9 to5 co-star Jane Fonda's tribute included a poignant
00:15:49reminder of Dolly's solidarity with her
00:15:52fans. She wrote to her gay and trans
00:15:55fans, I want you to know that she loved you, adding that she loved all her
00:15:59fans and they are legion. I think the
00:16:03world we live in at the moment that it's it's tough, it's difficult for lot of people and actually.
00:16:07"you want to have someone or something that you can kind of
00:16:11look to to make you feel good about yourself, and Dolly, she made people feel
00:16:15good about herself, whether it was her performances, whether it was her mantras,
00:16:19I mean she's got so many quotes that I live by every single day. It takes a lot of
00:16:23money to look this cheap. Did you say that? Well, that yeah, I said that, and
00:16:27I meant that, lot of people think that's a joke, that's the biggest truth I ever
00:16:30told. You have no idea how much it cost to make a person
00:16:34look this cheap." She was often
00:16:38pressed by journalists to comment on political issues, but used her
00:16:42trademark warmth and humor to deflect difficult
00:16:45questions. It was very significant that
00:16:49President Trump put up a positive
00:16:52tribute to her, and she was someone who clearly didn't
00:16:56believe a lot of things that he did, but she managed to
00:17:00always not get political, never to cross a
00:17:03line, and that was something a way that was
00:17:06legacy. that she's passed on, because if
00:17:09you want to be like Dolly Partton, you could be so successful. I don't
00:17:13think of myself at all as being political, and that's the
00:17:16worst thing that I could think about being, so there will, there will never be a
00:17:20time when Dolly Pon says, I'm going to run for office,
00:17:24that's that's never going to happen from office,
00:17:28actually the back home they have lot of signs everywhere Dory
00:17:32for president, and I was, my my joke is,
00:17:36no, we've had enough boobs. in the white house, republicans
00:17:39love her, democrats love her, she never ever brought politics into her
00:17:43music, i think she spoke to people through the work she did and through the song
00:17:47lyrics she wrote, dolly's support for what she deemed
00:17:51worthwile causes is renowned, you got it, i got it,
00:17:54okay, didn't hurt, dolly donated significant amounts of her
00:17:58fortune to the causes she believed in, she pledged $1
00:18:01million to support vaccine research during the COVID
00:18:04pandemic, okay, 'can you do what you got to
00:18:08do? even getting behind campaigns to encourage people to get
00:18:12vaccinated. she was a force for good in the world and she was someone that we
00:18:16could all kind of turn to whenever things got tough, so
00:18:19and the idea of a world without dolly in it just doesn't
00:18:22seem real. vaccine, vaccine,
00:18:26vaccine, vaccine, i'm begging of you please don't
00:18:30hesitate. hello, i'm dolly. do you love
00:18:34books? me too, dolly new'. to connect with
00:18:38people, in 2015 she adopted a well-known east midlands phrase
00:18:42to promote the expansion of her imagination library
00:18:45project, a global scheme that sends free books to
00:18:48children. hey everybody, this is Dolly, or should
00:18:52I say, I up me duck. I hope I said that
00:18:55right, because if I didn't everybody in Nottingham is going to be
00:18:59offended. There's so many children that may have grown up illiterate if it
00:19:03hadn't been for her imagination library, and that's her money going
00:19:07into... completely non-profit, but to help young
00:19:10children learn to read, which is obviously something that was very important to her,
00:19:14especially as someone that such a way of words, thank you for
00:19:18my books dally, you are
00:19:20welcome, you're the one to make it worth
00:19:24while in Dundee, this dolly super fan and local counselor
00:19:28helped set up the city's branch the imagination library, he says
00:19:32she'll be remembered forever, so we had launch event and I
00:19:36do remember the door. had opened and this we taught she was only about two or
00:19:39three as soon as the door opened she saw the dolly stand up and she went dolly and went
00:19:43running to dolly so suppose the legacy hope to leave for
00:19:47children in dundy scotland the world is that every time they open a book the
00:19:51legacy of dolly partom will live on forever and even the prime
00:19:54minister recognized her philanthropy. was a huge
00:19:58fan of what dolly did around literacy around the world. i was
00:20:02culture secretary when uh her libraries were first uh coming through
00:20:06and the books that went into communities across across
00:20:09Britain, what a legacy to
00:20:11leave. The royal family said she
00:20:15brought joy, comfort and inspiration as the King's guard
00:20:19played 9 to5 outside Buckinggham Palace in honor the
00:20:23queen of
00:20:23country.
00:20:32And the band will play on for Dolly, even after her
00:20:35death.
00:20:39"I think the plans she's had are going to come together, her team are going to put them out, and
00:20:43there's still unreleased music as well, apparently that is still to come, so
00:20:47I think she still has it all worked out and I'm actually really excited." to see the
00:20:51plans, because I know this isn't the end of what we're going to see of Dolly.
00:20:55The weekend after her death at festivals in the UK, Dolly
00:20:58Parton was honored with renditions of her most famous
00:21:01tracks. I've grown up on artists
00:21:05like Dolly Paren, of course we lost an icon. We played
00:21:09Jolen on the first set as a little tribute to
00:21:11dolly. Oh, she's just beautiful. She's
00:21:15the heart and soul of country. And how did you feel when you found out the sad
00:21:18news? let your girlfriend cried for two
00:21:22days, he was upset, she was very upset, just
00:21:26been there from day one for all the country fans, so god
00:21:29bless her, and in
00:21:33Nashville in Tennessee, country's megastars remember Dolly with a
00:21:37special show at the upbring, we
00:21:40promise to never forget you, and
00:21:44we'll think of you each step the
00:21:48way.

00:22:45that i've inspired them it makes me feel proud that i've done something.

00:22:54once a lifetime person, I'm so grateful that we got to be
00:22:58on earth at the same time, I know, I i think we always remember
00:23:01Dolly as a bright, colorful soul that was on this
00:23:05earth, I've had wonderful life, I have so
00:23:09many people to thank, but none more than you,
00:23:12my fans, I will always love you, so thank

00:24:28Hello there, we'll head to North America first of all, and in the west, it's mostly
00:24:32dry, plenty of sunshine around it as well, do have some heavy rain though on
00:24:36these weather frunts moving across the northern plains, the midwest into the
00:24:40northeast, keeping it rather cool here, and we've also got some thundery
00:24:43showers in the far southeast the US, but in between those wetter areas, in
00:24:47the sunshine it's still quite hot and... heat to come in Mexico as well,
00:24:51but we are going to find thundery showers in the west, and there is potential hurricane
00:24:55developing in the Pacific to drift slowly towards Mexico. Heavy
00:24:59thundery showers quite widely actually across central America and to weather weather
00:25:03heading into the Caribbean as well. Thundery showers here in the far northwest of
00:25:07South America, also seeing some further bands of rain heading towards the river
00:25:11plate moving northwards and that will be followed by this colder air that we've got
00:25:15in the south the continent where we could see some heavy snow in
00:25:18places. We've got some cool. air coming in behind this band of rain
00:25:22here, that rain could be heavy and thundery around those Baltic states and some windy
00:25:26weather coming into northern parts of Europe. to the south it's mostly
00:25:30dry actually with some sunshine still a lot of heat here across
00:25:33Iberia, one or two thundery showers are likely through the Mediterranean, those will
00:25:37be affecting some northwestern parts of Africa, keeping it a little bit cooler
00:25:41here. got the main seasonal rains here across West Africa, showers
00:25:45developing across the interior all the way down into Botswana,
00:25:48it's cooler, but... across Namibia and we've still got some
00:25:52thundery downp to come in South Africa moving into the Middle East
00:25:56though and lot of dry weather here lots of sunshine as well the wind's
00:26:00easing through the red sea and across eastern parts. to Saudi Arabia and
00:26:04temperatures on the high side even for this time the year, southwest monsoon
00:26:08is withdrawing from northwestern parts of India so it's generally dry
00:26:12here, wetter weather though around area of low pressure that we've got in the
00:26:15bay of Bengal, that could develop into a cyclone over the next few
00:26:19days. This is a typhoon though that's very close to Tokyo
00:26:23on Monday, some damaging winds, heavy rain across Honshue before it
00:26:27moves away very quickly, sunshine and heavy thundery dowrs to come
00:26:31across China, some more... here across Southeast Asia and also into the
00:26:35Philippines as well, all that wet weather here, but things are much dryer as
00:26:39you move into Australia, big area of high pressure drifting its way towards
00:26:43the southeast, briefly a little bit cooler here, but dry and sunny across
00:26:46most of Australia, got another band of rain coming into the south
00:26:50island on Monday and that will move its way northwards, may bring a bit of snow
00:26:54to the mountains. Our
00:26:58world is rapidly changing and an age of
