00:00:24Trump's claim about Tehran's insistence on a
00:00:28quick deal, at the same time, the US re-imposed sanctions on a sanctioned
00:00:32Russian bank due to its ties
00:00:34with Iran. Well, this was an opportunity
00:00:37that Iran and Oman provided.

00:00:42Iran's claim about the reason for canceling its meeting with
00:00:46Persian Gulf countries in Oman. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says
00:00:50it was at the request of Saudi Arabia. Never

00:01:35Hello and welcome to this news program. Donald Trump says
00:01:39Iran is very eager to reach an agreement with the US, and he has no fundamental
00:01:42objection to engagement, but he will make the decision
00:01:46about Washington's entry into talks with Tehran. The US President,
00:01:50in posts on the social media network Truth Social, has called
00:01:53for other countries to compensate for the cost of US actions
00:01:57in the Strait of Hormuz, and has once again promised that with the end of the war,
00:02:00oil prices will drop rapidly. At the same time, the US
00:02:04has sanctioned the Russian bank VTB, which was previously
00:02:08on the list of Russia-related sanctions, this time under an executive order
00:02:12related to Iran. In the updated information on this bank
00:02:15at the US Treasury Department, the name Tehran and the phrase
00:02:19subject to secondary sanctions have been added.
00:02:23Our correspondent from Washington, Khashayar Jenaid, has joined the program.
00:02:27Khashayar, tell us a little more about Mr. Trump's statements.
00:02:35Mr. Trump today published a series of messages on Truth Social, some of which
00:02:38relate to Iran, and this shows what issue is occupying his mind
00:02:42in this regard. This is about Mr. Trump's concern about the rising
00:02:46price of gasoline in the US market and its impact on
00:02:50the political process in this country, and on the other hand, there is the discussion
00:02:54that the US emphasizes that the Strait of Hormuz is under the control of
00:02:57the US, not any other country. In several posts that Mr. Trump
00:03:01published on Truth Social, he said that Iran is
00:03:05strongly seeking an agreement with the US, but he said that the decision
00:03:08about whether the US will return to negotiations with Iran
00:03:12or not will be his, and in this regard, he emphasized that
00:03:15the US can consider this issue.
00:03:19Regarding Iran seeking a quick agreement,
00:03:23he said that
00:03:26the movement of ships and the export of oil from the Strait of Hormuz
00:03:30continues and is ongoing, and he emphasized that the war
00:03:34will end soon, and then you will see that the price
00:03:37of gasoline will immediately decrease. Regarding
00:03:40the price increases, he said that all price increases
00:03:43were due to the policies of the Biden administration, and all prices
00:03:47are decreasing, and the only price that is going up is the price of gasoline, which
00:03:51will also decrease soon. It can be said that
00:03:55these indicate what
00:03:58is on Mr. Trump's mind. Weighing on him these days
00:04:01is the situation of the war with Iran, and of course, Mr. Trump
00:04:05refers to this as a military clash in his messages, not
00:04:08a war, and the discussion of the consequences
00:04:11of the war on the US economy. But regarding
00:04:14the sanctions you mentioned, the US Treasury
00:04:17Department, minutes ago in a statement it
00:04:21issued, included the name of a Russian bank on the list of
00:04:25secondary sanctions related to Iran.
00:04:29These are sanctions that the US, in the continuation
00:04:32of the war, as economic isolation
00:04:35of Iran, has implemented with the aim of increasing pressure
00:04:39on Tehran to accept US demands in the war.
00:04:42This bank that was mentioned
00:04:45is VTB Bank, or the Bank for Foreign Trade of Russia.
00:04:48It is an important bank. Of course, this
00:04:51bank was previously on the full US sanctions list
00:04:55due to the war in Ukraine. Now, due to Iran, it is being
00:04:59placed on the secondary sanctions list. Given
00:05:02that this bank was previously sanctioned, this sanction
00:05:06is not considered a punishment for the Russian bank,
00:05:09but rather a warning
00:05:13to banks in other countries that conduct financial transactions
00:05:16with Iran through this bank, and it will warn
00:05:20them not to engage in transactions and financial exchanges
00:05:24with Iran. Thank you,
00:05:27Khashayar Jendi, our correspondent in
00:05:30Washington.
00:05:32Iran says that the postponement of its joint meeting with
00:05:35the Persian Gulf countries was at the request of Saudi Arabia. This
00:05:39meeting was supposed to be held today to discuss the strait.
00:05:43Hormuz in Oman. The spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that Tehran
00:05:47expected the regional countries to appreciate this opportunity.
00:05:50This is while, according to a Reuters report, yesterday and the day
00:05:54before, ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz decreased. On the other hand,
00:05:57today, Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, met with
00:06:01the commander of US forces in the Middle East. It was previously reported that
00:06:05the US rejected Saudi Arabia's request for military intervention against the Houthis.
00:06:08Farin Assemi reports.
00:06:12The Oman meeting, a session that was canceled just hours
00:06:16before it was scheduled. The news of the postponement of this meeting
00:06:19was announced by the Omani Foreign Minister. In order
00:06:23to reach a consensus, the regional meeting that was supposed to be held
00:06:26tomorrow in Salalah has been postponed. We remain committed
00:06:30to strengthening dialogue that promotes stability and sustainable
00:06:33cooperation in our region. And although Iran
00:06:37says this postponement was at the request of Saudi Arabia. Well, this
00:06:40was a very good opportunity. I don't think
00:06:44any responsible party
00:06:47would accept that this opportunity
00:06:50should be missed for any reason, whether due to the influence
00:06:54of parties outside the region,
00:06:57or due to excuses that really have nothing
00:07:01to do with Iran. We should not
00:07:03hold this meeting. The news that has been
00:07:07reported is correct, that
00:07:10Saudi Arabia requested that this
00:07:13meeting not be held for now. The discussions
00:07:17that are raised about the attribution of events that
00:07:20are ongoing between them and Yemen are,
00:07:24frankly,
00:07:26giving the wrong address. The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry
00:07:29is referring to the conflicts in Yemen for control
00:07:33of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait that have
00:07:35escalated.
00:07:39Between Houthi militias, who are supported by
00:07:43Iran on one side, and Saudi Arabia and the forces of the legitimate government of Yemen on the
00:07:47other. Iran, however, says it has no involvement
00:07:50in Yemen. I will repeat this, Iran has
00:07:53no intervention in matters related
00:07:57to Yemen. But we, as
00:08:00a country
00:08:03for whom
00:08:05the situation in the region is important, know that some
00:08:09parties are exploiting this situation
00:08:13to escalate conflicts and division among Islamic
00:08:16countries, and also
00:08:20trying to fish in troubled waters. We state
00:08:23our position very clearly.
00:08:26A clear statement of the issue should not be interpreted
00:08:29as interference in this matter. The differences between Iran
00:08:33and Saudi Arabia, however, are not limited to what is happening in Yemen. This is
00:08:37an image of Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline that was damaged
00:08:40in drone attacks a few days ago, and the flow of oil through it was cut.
00:08:44The finger of blame in those attacks was pointed at Iran and its
00:08:47proxy groups in Iraq. Is Iran
00:08:51responsible for the attack on the East-West pipeline, and what do you think
00:08:54Saudi Arabia is going to gain?
00:08:56بیاره؟
00:08:59Well, I think they're probably responsible, meaning, you know, they're
00:09:03completely ready for a reaction now.
00:09:06But I think Iran is responsible because they've been
00:09:09responsible for these kinds of things for a while now.
00:09:19Earlier, Oman also announced that it would not attend the meeting due to Iran's presence.
00:09:22The reason for that was Iran's attacks on US bases
00:09:26in Persian Gulf countries, including Bahrain.
00:09:29No new date has yet been set for this meeting, but
00:09:33Iran says it is consulting with Oman to set a new date.
00:09:37Farin Hashemi, BBC.
00:09:39Arman Mahmoodian, researcher
00:09:43at the Institute for National and International Security at the University of South Florida
00:09:47in Tampa, USA, is with us. Mr.
00:09:49Mahmoodian, Saudi Arabia
00:09:52apparently did not agree to attend this meeting.
00:09:56If it does not want to negotiate, if it does not pursue
00:09:59diplomacy, what can it really do?
00:10:01بکنه
00:10:04Thank you for the invitation. Look, I think the answer or
00:10:08the decision made by Saudi Arabia is not the final decision. In my
00:10:11opinion, Saudi Arabia is not interested in
00:10:15entering into negotiations before the issue in Yemen has been somewhat
00:10:18tempered. That is, Saudi Arabia is pursuing two objectives. One objective is
00:10:22that it seeks to use its absence from
00:10:26the trilateral negotiations as a leverage against Iran,
00:10:30which is the main supporter of the Houthis, to make Iran ask
00:10:33the Houthis to somewhat slow down or
00:10:36de-escalate, or not to escalate
00:10:40the situation and tension further from here.
00:10:43The second thing that is happening is that Saudi Arabia is currently in a weak
00:10:47position regionally, specifically in the Red Sea-Bab el-Mandeb area.
00:10:50The advance of the Houthis against the government that Saudi Arabia
00:10:59expected. What was expected was Saudi Arabia's failure,
00:11:03especially the Saudi Air Force's failure to control this issue,
00:11:07which is surprising and a significant issue.
00:11:10I think with these issues, Saudi Arabia is not interested in entering
00:11:14into negotiations with Iran on a very important issue like the Strait of Hormuz,
00:11:18because if it does, it will be doing so from a position of weakness,
00:11:22or it will be entering a situation
00:11:25where its regional situation and regional influence are not
00:11:29in a good condition. That's why I think Saudi Arabia has currently decided not to be present, but I
00:11:33don't think this is a definitive or final
00:11:35decision.
00:11:38Well, you mean that it doesn't want to talk from a position of weakness,
00:11:41but on the other hand, today,
00:11:44Mohammed bin Salman met with the commander of US
00:11:48forces in the Middle East. Apparently, they had requests
00:11:52from the Americans that were not met.
00:11:55Is it possible that in the foreseeable future or
00:11:58in the short term, Saudi Arabia's situation will change
00:12:02and it will emerge from a position of weakness? Look,
00:12:05it's possible. It all depends on what the Americans do.
00:12:08In the past, this issue was not the first time that
00:12:12Saudi Arabia was somewhat powerless in Yemen and
00:12:15sought US help or requested US help.
00:12:17Now, according to news sources,
00:12:21some sources, as far as I know, say that Saudi Arabia's
00:12:25request was rejected twice. Now, how many times doesn't matter
00:12:29much. What matters is that the United States has not yet
00:12:32intervened. This may change. This may change
00:12:36depending on what offer Saudi Arabia makes to it. Mr.
00:12:39Trump has proven that in the Middle East, specifically in
00:12:42relation to Saudi Arabia, he is willing to
00:12:45compromise depending on what the Saudis are willing to
00:12:48offer him. The fact that the United States has not yet agreed
00:12:52to get involved in Yemen is, in my opinion, not a definitive
00:12:56thing. Mr. Trump may still change his mind. If the United
00:12:59States changes its mind, if the United States wants
00:13:02to enter this conflict, and specifically enter into aerial bombardment of Yemen,
00:13:06we have seen in the past that US air operations
00:13:09compared to Saudi air operations in Yemen and against
00:13:13the Houthis have a greater success rate.
00:13:15It's relative success, not certainty, but they have a greater success rate. If this
00:13:19happens, in my opinion, the situation will somewhat
00:13:23shift in favor of Saudi Arabia. It will change. However, specifically,
00:13:26if the US decides to intervene soon, because
00:13:30the Houthis are not yet well established in the areas
00:13:34they have captured, and the areas they have captured
00:13:37are outside the mountainous region where the Houthis traditionally
00:13:41have a presence. That is, the areas they have captured are not as
00:13:44geographically defensible for the Houthis as their traditional areas. If the US
00:13:47decides to intervene soon, in my opinion, there is a possibility
00:13:51that the balance of power will return and a relative balance
00:13:55will be established between the government that Saudi Arabia supports
00:13:59in Yemen and the Houthis. This possibility is not
00:14:02at all small. Very briefly, please, but we know that the US
00:14:06is already sufficiently involved in the Strait of Hormuz. Now, if
00:14:09for example, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait is also
00:14:12added, will Mr. Trump's position not become more
00:14:16precarious than the current situation? Briefly, please. Both yes and no.
00:14:20Look, if he doesn't intervene, his position may become
00:14:23more precarious.
00:14:31If he is supposed to be naive, in addition to the issue of the Strait of Hormuz, the pressure on the global economy will be
00:14:34greatly exacerbated. So the answer is both yes and
00:14:38no. What's important is what the Houthis will do next.
00:14:41Thank you, Mr. Mahmoodian, Arman
00:14:45Mahmoodian, researcher at the Institute for National and International Security at the University of
00:14:49South Florida. We continue the program with a few short
00:14:53news items. The independent fact-finding mission of the United Nations
00:14:56for Iran, referring to recent deadly US attacks on the south of this
00:15:00country, has called for compliance with international law by
00:15:04all parties. The report of this mission states that in two US
00:15:07attacks on August 8th on Qeshm Island and September
00:15:111st on Kohostak County, a number of civilians were killed,
00:15:14and the communities of these two regions, which are ethnic and religious
00:15:18minorities, were harmed. This report described Kohostak
00:15:21as a predominantly Baloch-inhabited county and said that the residents of Qeshm
00:15:25are mostly Sunni Muslims, and both of these
00:15:28communities have historically been victims of structural discrimination and deprivation.

00:15:35The documentary "Observer's Eye" about the life of one of the victims
00:15:39of the "Woman, Life, Freedom" protests won an award at a
00:15:42festival in Mexico. This film, directed
00:15:45by Abbas Ghazali, was selected as the chosen film
00:15:49in the "Against Silence, All Voices" international festival's 14th
00:15:52edition, in the "Border, Migration and Exile" section.
00:15:55"Observer's Eye" was made in Spain and tells the story
00:15:59of Kowsar Eftekhari, who was injured during the
00:16:022022 protests in Iran.

00:16:38He also said that some radar equipment was also damaged,

00:16:52One of the two US Air Force officers whose F-15 fighter jet
00:16:55was shot down over Iran in April
00:16:59spoke for the first time about the moments of the crash,
00:17:02his injuries, escaping from Iranian forces, and the
00:17:06extensive operation that ultimately led to
00:17:09his rescue. Shida Hooshmandi, our correspondent from
00:17:13Washington, reports on this.
00:17:14میده.
00:17:20That day was like any other day of the war until the Iranians shot us down.
00:17:23In the early hours of April 14, 2045, five
00:17:27weeks after the start of the US-Iran war, a US F-15
00:17:31was targeted in the mountainous region south of Isfahan.
00:17:34A US soldier, alone
00:17:38in the mountains south of Isfahan, and an operation involving
00:17:42thousands of people to find him. He has now
00:17:45spoken to CBS News about his rescue operation,
00:17:49but Iran still has the capability to shoot
00:17:52down some of our fighter planes. The CENTCOM commander says
00:17:56the mission that night was to attack facilities
00:17:59related to Iran's missile and drone program,
00:18:03not Isfahan's nuclear facilities. An operation that in that war...
00:20:08Before the US rescue operation, IRGC positions in
00:20:11the surrounding area were targeted. In the second phase, more than
00:20:1515 US aircraft entered the operation,
00:20:18and 92 US troops stepped onto Iranian soil.
00:20:22US commanders say that in
00:20:25total, 3 to 5 thousand people were involved in this
00:20:29mission, but the extraction was not easy. The wheels of two
00:20:32US aircraft got stuck in the ground, and more than 90
00:20:36troops present in the area themselves needed to be extracted.
00:20:39They left Iran on other planes,
00:20:42and the US bombed the remaining equipment
00:20:46so that it would not fall into Iranian hands.
00:20:49Brava was rescued about 50
00:20:53hours after the crash, but the narrative of this
00:20:56operation is now a matter of debate. CNN has
00:21:00reported that representatives of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin
00:21:04insisted on the presence of two crew members on the CBS 60
00:21:07Minutes program. Both initially hesitated. One
00:21:11of them agreed, but the other refused to be interviewed.
00:21:14The Pentagon says their decision was entirely voluntary.
00:21:18According to sources,
00:22:20will deal with the enemy mercilessly and go as far as killing. Radan also
00:22:24said that the presence of people prevented some programs that he attributed to
00:22:28the enemy, including during last year's Chaharshanbe Suri, from being
00:22:31implemented. Meanwhile, on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the killing of
00:22:35Mahsa Jina Amini in the custody of the morality police, reports of
00:22:38increased security measures in her hometown of Saqqez have been published.
00:22:42It has also been reported that security agencies have asked the families of those killed
00:22:45in the Mahsa movement to refrain from holding memorial ceremonies.
00:22:50Mostafa Daneshgar, political analyst from Detroit, USA, is with us. Mr.
00:22:54Daneshgar, what do you think? Will these threats
00:22:57control the situation, or will they
00:23:00cause more anger among protesters or those
00:23:04who are dissatisfied?
00:23:07I offer my greetings and respect to you and the viewers
00:23:10and listeners of BBC Farsi.
00:23:13My perception is that we essentially need to see what
00:23:16situation we are trying to
00:23:20discuss the future to some extent. We are talking in a situation
00:23:24where several months have passed,
00:23:27but not yet a year since the bloody
00:23:30massacre of January 2023. That
00:23:34massacre is still a wound on the
00:23:37body of Iranian society
00:23:40and the collective belief and mind
00:23:43of Iranians. On the other hand, the issue of economic
00:23:47siege, naval siege, and the difficult
00:23:51living conditions, the inflation that has become
00:23:54momentary, the collapse of the national currency's value, the uncertain
00:23:58future, and the suspended state of war.
00:24:01We are not fighting, and we are not negotiating. All
00:24:05of these have come together to make us, according to many
00:24:08sociologists, economists, and experts who are warning
00:24:12the Islamic Republic, face a situation where society is waiting
00:24:16for a spark.
00:24:19A situation that is very, very similar to what we saw
00:24:23before the events of December 2017, before the
00:24:26events of November 2019, at
00:24:30the beginning of December 2017, and September
00:24:332022, but much more severe.
00:24:37The war that lies ahead, probably, or
00:24:40the economic war that is ongoing and
00:24:43for which the Islamic Republic clearly has no
00:24:46plan. All of these seem to greatly
00:24:50increase the scenario and the probability
00:24:53of protests starting. That is why the officials
00:24:57of the Islamic Republic are drawing lines, from Mohseni-Eje'i
00:25:00to Radan, and not only
00:25:04verbally and in speech, but also in
00:25:07practice, these so-called executions
00:25:10without trial,
00:25:13without rules, without regulations. Of course,
00:25:16I don't mean executions with regulations, in my opinion, I am against
00:25:20the entirety of the death penalty. I mean wholesale,
00:25:23arbitrary and
00:25:26without accountability, to serve
00:25:30repression. The Islamic Republic is using both of these tools,
00:25:33both executions and drawing these lines,
00:25:37because it anticipates that such protests
00:25:40are ahead. Well, the government has shown
00:25:44how determined it is to suppress
00:25:46these protests, and how it does not
00:25:50shy away from violence. Considering
00:25:53that experience, where do you think the situation is headed?
00:25:56میره
00:25:59Well, this period is
00:26:02a period that, in terms of
00:26:06action and on the ground, can be
00:26:09different. The government's miscalculations have shown
00:26:12to increase over time, in
00:26:15addition to the important factor that we still don't know
00:26:19about its impact, and that is
00:26:23the absence of Ali Khamenei as the unifying
00:26:26and cohesive element
00:26:29that unites
00:26:33the various components of the Islamic Republic. These scattered
00:26:36centers of power are now leaderless.
00:26:40The Supreme Leader, the Guardian Jurist, is absent. There is
00:26:44no sound, no voice from him. He was essentially
00:26:47the one who always came forward, stepped in,
00:26:51tried to create a narrative. Right now,
00:26:55we don't have a dominant narrative in the Islamic Republic
00:26:58regarding the war, or the management of the
00:27:02domestic situation. This chaos has started
00:27:06in the domestic sphere to such an extent that you see someone
00:27:09like Hossein Taeb also says that we should not
00:27:12intervene in the issue of hijab in a way that disrupts
00:27:16domestic cohesion. Therefore, we still
00:27:19don't know. This really makes it difficult
00:27:22to give a definitive answer as to whether this time the Islamic Republic will retreat
00:27:26or suppress more violently and bloodily.
00:27:30But what is certain is that the Islamic Republic
00:27:33is no longer in a position to make
00:27:37big decisions, to make a decision to suppress and
00:27:41to gather everyone behind it as a political system,
00:27:44because that leadership is not there, that central authority is not
00:27:48there. Not that it can completely retreat and reach a compromise
00:27:51with society. Thank you, Mr. Daneshgar. Mostafa Daneshgar, political analyst from
00:27:55Detroit, USA, is with us. Thank you for being with this news
00:27:59segment.
00:28:11respond mercilessly and go as far as killing. The comprehensive report of Amnesty
00:28:15International on the suppression of the "Woman, Life, Freedom"
00:28:18movement in 30 Iranian cities on
00:28:22the evening of September 21st, massacres are carried out.
00:28:25With every torture victim and grieving family we
00:28:28spoke with, their eyes are on the international community. Our
00:28:31efforts to the community are that they take this action immediately
00:28:35before another massacre occurs. Conversation with Raha Bahreini, researcher
00:28:39at Amnesty International on Iran.
