00:27:30and they're building their combat skills. These new groups
00:27:33are part of a global movement calling themselves active clubs
00:27:36in Canada. They have links to terrorist groups and extremist
00:27:40militia like organizations
00:27:42and they try to hide where they are. They blur their faces and
00:27:45hide their surroundings. We dug through their social media
00:27:48channels and investigated hundreds of videos and images
00:27:51posted by these groups to reveal who they are and where
00:27:54they train.
00:27:58Well let's go see what this travesties are.
00:28:04If you've never heard of an active club,
00:28:06it might seem harmless. Who doesn't want to be active,
00:28:09right? In reality, they recruit white people to
00:28:12tribe and train. Basically their fascist fight clubs and
00:28:15they're on the rise around the world. In Canada this movement
00:28:19overlaps with violent terror groups. Take Atomwaffen
00:28:22Division, it was a neo Nazi group linked
00:28:25to multiple murders in the US. It was listed as a terrorist
00:28:28entity in Canada in 2021. That's when many former members
00:28:32joined active clubs.
00:28:33And as we're about to show you, there's a bit of a theme here.
00:28:36This is probably one of the fastest growing far right
00:28:39extremist threats in Canada. Now,
00:28:41these groups say they're not looking for fist fights in the
00:28:44streets, yet they often refer to a
00:28:46looming global conflict and a time when civility will be
00:28:49unnecessary. These are people that in many cases are training
00:28:53for what they believe is to be an upcoming race war. The
00:28:56potential for violence and the potential for something
00:28:59catastrophic to happen is extremely high.
00:29:04One of the main groups behind this mask demonstration in
00:29:16NS-13's Telegram channel, 1 of their members poses with a
00:29:19Nazi lighter on Hitler's birthday. The group called him
00:29:23one of the greatest men to ever live,
00:29:25saying one day we will see his vision come true. So in a post
00:29:30like this, even though there may be no mention
00:29:33of the Jewish people when they're referring to Jews,
00:29:36and in this particular case, anti-Semitism would clearly
00:29:39fall within the scope of the Criminal Code prohibition. So
00:29:43you think this is hate speech? Yeah,
00:29:45I think a lot of what's said in the post that you provided me
00:29:49with would would constitute hate speech under the Criminal
00:29:52Code. And these stickers that they put up in Hamilton's parks
00:29:56say National Socialists, Nazis. And here's where we find
00:30:00another link to a terrorist group. The Canadian Proud Boys
00:30:03expanded in 2021 after they were designated a terrorist
00:30:07entity following the January 6th US Capitol Riot.
00:30:11This is Brandon Lapointe. We find him wearing a Proud Boy
00:30:15shirt in multiple images. He's now a prominent member of MS13.
00:30:19Heavy matches, tattoos, rings, and his shorts. In this image
00:30:23posted by the group, we locate where they've been in
00:30:26Hamilton and city parks like Myrtle Park. Here
00:30:30you can see that this building matches exactly. We went to
00:30:33this location and every other to confirm ourselves. They've
00:30:37been sparring in broad daylight, like in this video from Gage
00:30:40Park in Hamilton.
00:30:43You could see the bathroom here and Dome here. Match the
00:30:46sketchbook. Oh well, shoot. And that's even closer
00:30:49towards the Children's Garden specifically.
00:30:53Ah, that's really upsetting to see.
00:30:55Yeah, I think that's a serious public
00:30:58safety concern. The rise of extremist organizing is a
00:31:01national security threat. So public parks are one thing,
00:31:05but we also find them in privately owned gyms,
00:31:07which they try to hide by obscuring the images they share.
00:31:11Nationalists 13 have a ton of pictures at this gym,
00:31:14with members often sparring or posing in the boxing ring. In
00:31:18another photo from the gym, this MS13 member is wearing a
00:31:22will to raise shirt. Will terrorize
00:31:24the clothing brand that markets itself to active clubs. There
00:31:28aren't many clues visible in these videos,
00:31:30but we spot this one in this video. You can see the edge of
00:31:33this boxing glove deckle here. It matches up with this
00:31:36promotional video for Amazing Fitness,
00:31:39a popular and family owned gym in downtown Hamilton. The ring
00:31:42and the windows match 2 an upstairs in the weightlifting
00:31:46section. This portion of the wall matches exactly the area
00:31:49behind the Man and the Will to Rise shirt. Remember Brandon
00:31:52Lapointe, the MS13 member we identify
00:31:55here? He is at Amazing Fitness
00:32:01so we drive to the gym to share our findings. The manager says
00:32:04he had no idea this was happening. A few days later he
00:32:07sends an e-mail and tells us we have no affiliation whatsoever
00:32:11with these individuals or ideology and we categorically
00:32:14reject any form of hate or discrimination. The fact that
00:32:18the gym owner doesn't know that they were training doesn't
00:32:21surprise me at all. It just goes to show how manipulative
00:32:25these groups are that they are going to lie about what they're
00:32:28doing.
00:32:32Now let's switch gears for a second. Besides nationalist 13,
00:32:36there's a new group called second sons. Second sons
00:32:39doesn't call themselves an active club,
00:32:41but they have the same MO. It's an offshoot of Diagon,
00:32:44a group that's on the radar of Canadian law enforcement,
00:32:48which considers them an extremist militia like
00:32:50organization and second sons, a nationalist 13. They actually
00:32:54know each other. This is Alex friend help,
00:32:56prominent member of Diagon and now second son. We're doing a
00:33:00createspace with the guys from Nationalist 13. Rent is also an
00:33:04open white supremacist. It's very simple. No Jews,
00:33:08no Jews. Here's friend posing at a gym that we identify as
00:33:12Hammer BJJ by matching up the wall padding and light switch
00:33:16with images from social media.
00:33:26We drive there too, to talk to the owner. This is
00:33:30Rob Barrow, the owner of Hammer BJ,
00:33:32and he says he had no idea this happened at his school. I don't
00:33:36affiliate myself with with any sort of white supremacy groups
00:33:40or any sort of supremacy from any faction, any race,
00:33:44any culture. I have a a firm policy that I don't want that
00:33:48those types of behaviors or those types of
00:33:51energies in this place. I'm trying to protect that and
00:33:54trying to foster into something good for the kids of the
00:33:57community that can come here and and better their life. This
00:34:00is something we're seeing happen across the martial arts
00:34:03community is just kind of insidious, gross of
00:34:06far right influence within it and to see something that is so
00:34:10positive to me and many other people being Co opted like this,
00:34:14it's not something I like to see. Second Sons also posted a
00:34:18photo that they say is from Hamilton,
00:34:20but that's not accurate. This photo is actually from Niagara,
00:34:24from this Brazilian jujitsu Joe Niagara. BJ. Well, again,
00:34:27we go and share our findings. They told us they didn't know
00:34:31Second Sons had been training there and now that they know,
00:34:35they're not welcome there anymore.
