00:15:05integrating environmental messaging into civic education could help
00:15:09reduce practices such as vandalism, pollution and tire burning

00:15:29report, I've had some time to go through it, your headline, finding is
00:15:32roughly three in four respondents leak voter education to peaceful
00:15:36elections. "for people who've grown cynical about civic
00:15:39campaigns, why should we believe voter education changes
00:15:43behavior on the ground, especially the grassroots and not just
00:15:46attitudes a
00:15:47questionnaire?
00:15:52that's a fair question. our study does not claim that voter education has
00:15:55already eliminated electoral violence, rather it demonstrates that a
00:15:59significant majority of respondents about 75% believe
00:16:03sustained voter education encourages peaceful
00:16:06coexistence." before, during and after
00:16:09elections, we also found statistically significant
00:16:12relationships between perceptions of boter education and electoral
00:16:16peace, electoral peace, more importantly, voter
00:16:19education works by addressing the underlying drivers of
00:16:23conflict, it equips citizens with knowledge their rights and
00:16:26responsibilities, discourages
00:16:29misinformation, political suggery,
00:16:32intimidation and intolerance and promotes
00:16:36civic response. responsibility: while education, while voter
00:16:40education alone is not a magic solution, it changes the
00:16:44environment in which people make decisions, when citizens are
00:16:48better informed, they are generally less vulnerable to
00:16:51manipulation and more inclined towards peaceful democratic
00:16:55participation, so I want to imagine that almost every
00:16:59Nigerian does have some sort of civic education, vote for
00:17:02education, especially around election periods, because before the elections
00:17:06there are campaign. you're educated um, inec does his job of trying to tell
00:17:10people how to vote uh at the elections, this is what you do, you put your
00:17:14your your thumbprints, you do all of that, but as for voter
00:17:18education, critics might argue that this is slow process, it's
00:17:22a soft tool in
00:17:23the face of hard problems, problems such as vote buying,
00:17:27godfatherism, entrenched violence, which we see almost every
00:17:31election year, what would you say to those who think that we need
00:17:34enforcement and not enlightenment?
00:17:39I would say that um this should not be viewed um
00:17:42as an either or choice effective um electoral governance requires
00:17:46both enforcement and enlightenment, law enforcement remains
00:17:50essential for prosecuting electoral offenders, preventing
00:17:54violence and protecting the integrity of
00:17:56elections. At the same time, voter education addresses the behavioral
00:18:00and attitudinal factors that often fear electoral
00:18:04misconduct, it helps reduce misinformation and
00:18:07encourages political tolerance, promotes civic responsibility
00:18:11and buils trust in democratic institutions. our findings
00:18:15suggest that respondents view voter education as a preventive
00:18:19peace peace building tool rather than a substitute for law
00:18:22enforcement. prevention is great generally more
00:18:25sustainable and less costly than responding
00:18:29to violence after it has already occurred, therefore combining
00:18:33robust enforcement and continuous civic education offer.
00:18:37a more comprehensive strategy for strengthening um
00:19:08segment: China encourages countries the world embrace the benefits of
