00:08:14negative impact on the South African economy, and especially on the

00:08:22the South African economy. The unrest follows weeks of protests and
00:08:26attacks blaming foreign nationals for crime, unemployment and
00:08:30pressure on public services. The government says immigration

00:14:52ground. During my recent visit I witnessed.
00:14:55immense hardship and continued displacement, overcrowded living
00:14:59conditions, whitespread destruction and nearly daily
00:15:03casualties caused by ongoing Israeli military operation. Israel says
00:15:06Hamas continues to obstruct aid and retain control in
00:15:10Gaza, while Palestinian representatives accused
00:15:14Israel of prolonging violence and displacement. The war
00:15:18began after the Hamas led attacks on southern Israel on October
00:15:227, 2023. According to Gaza's. health ministry,
00:15:26more than 73, Palestinians have since been
00:16:25in Lebanon, families of those killed in the Beirot port
00:16:28explosion have marked six years since the disaster with renewed
00:16:32demands for truth and accountability, despite fresh promises
00:16:36of progress in the... investigation, relatives say justice has
00:16:40already been delayed far too
00:16:41long. six years

00:19:37support for Sadika, every
00:19:41meal has become a struggle, the 30-year old Afghan
00:19:45mother has seven children and all but her youngest have
00:19:48suffered from malnutrition, two of her daughters still require
00:19:52treatment while her husband's illness has left the family without an
00:19:56income. i cannot feed my
00:20:00child when i do not eat myself. when i eat i can feed her, but i am
00:20:03also sick.
00:20:08Her family's experience reflects a deepening crisis across
00:20:12Afghanistan. The world food program says child
00:20:15malnutrition has reached critical levels in 12
00:20:19provinces, the highest number ever recorded. Despite
00:20:23the end the 20-year conflict following the Taliban takeover,
00:20:273.7 million Afghan children and 1.2 million
00:20:31pregnant and breastfeeding women are projected to be malnourished.
00:20:35We must act now to stem the rise in. child deaths which this
00:20:38crisis is provoking,
00:20:40it is already too late for too many, but not for the
00:20:44hundreds the thousands of acutelrished women and children who
00:20:48urgently need and deserve our help, child
00:20:52malnutrition usually peaks between July and October as
00:20:55disease, poor sanitation and food insecurity
00:20:59intensify, but aid agencies say this year's
00:21:02crisis has been worsened by unemployment, conflict and
00:21:06rising food prices, the closure the Pakistan
00:21:09border and fighting in the Middle East also disrupted
00:21:13supply roots, increasing the cost of essential nutrition
00:21:17products, a mid conflict climate.
