00:11:08Let's find out how useful Ayurveda is in this. First of all, Dr.
00:11:12Mahesh, we would like to understand from you,
00:11:15Ayurveda is ancient knowledge, and in today's modern world,
00:11:19where not only has the risk of diseases increased, but there have also been many
00:11:22changes in our way of life, in our lifestyle. How
00:11:26relevant, how apt, and how important
00:11:30do you consider it to be to adopt the principles
00:11:33of Ayurveda even in modern times?
00:11:36Yes, Ayurveda is the oldest
00:11:39medical system in the world, and the principles
00:11:42of Ayurveda written in Charaka Samhita, Shishu Samhita, Ashtanga
00:11:46Sangraha, Ashtanga Hridaya, are still equally
00:11:50effective today. So, we used to say that Purana Vityavan
00:11:54Sadhu Sarvam, whatever is old is the best, that is not
00:11:58the case. Today, a person examines
00:12:01everything first and then looks at its results
00:12:05after examining it, that if it is effective, then he accepts
00:12:08it. So, the things said in the texts of Ayurveda,
00:12:12if today's Gen Z needs to understand them, then for
00:12:15that, in today's modern era, through research
00:12:18and evidence-based research, we will have to
00:12:22explain it to them, and the Ayushman Ministry, Government of India,
00:12:26is making a lot of efforts for this, and today I am happy
00:12:30to say that on the website of the Ayush Ministry,
00:12:33more than 42,000 research papers, standard
00:12:36research papers, are available, and all of them are
00:12:40evidence-based research. So, if today's young
00:12:43generation wants to believe in Ayurveda, then for
00:12:47that, they should definitely look at those research papers,
00:12:51look at those results, and adopt Ayurveda in their
00:12:55life, because the Ayurveda that started 5000 years
00:12:59ago, its results are still equally
00:13:03effective today,
00:13:06that direct evidence does not need proof, but here there is direct
00:13:09evidence and proof too. You can also try it, and
00:13:13the kind of research and studies that are going on prove
00:13:16that Ayurveda is very important
00:13:20for preventing diseases. Dr.
00:13:23Tanuja Neswari, if we want to understand the main
00:13:27principles of Ayurveda, what do they say,
00:13:30and how is health viewed according to Ayurveda?
00:13:34Yes, what Professor Mahesh Vyas ji said
00:13:37earlier, that our principles, so Tattva
00:13:41Shastra and Vyavahar, this is the most important
00:13:44thing. So, what Ayurveda has called eternal, it is
00:13:48eternal, that the principles of Panchamahabhuta, which you said
00:13:52keep us healthy, so we
00:14:25principle says, that is why we say that total health
00:14:29is not the health of only people, people and
00:14:32planet. If the planet's five elements are healthy,
00:14:35then we will be healthy. This is the first principle,
00:14:39and what you just said about daily routine and
00:14:42seasonal routine, so the changes
00:14:45we make in our daily life from morning till
00:14:48night, diet, sleep and celibacy, all these
00:14:52we adjust our body clock to.
00:15:26How to keep it? Diet, sleep, and
00:15:29celibacy. This means that our diet should be according
00:15:33to our nature, it should be balanced,
00:15:36and we should change our diet according to every season,
00:15:39and most importantly, it should be according to our Agni (digestive fire). How much
00:15:42hungry are we, how much can we digest,
00:15:45according to that, not only time, but also
00:15:49according to the place, in every ecosystem,
00:15:52food preferences are different,
00:15:55habits of eating are different for everyone.
00:15:59Keeping all these in mind, we should have a balanced
00:16:02diet, according to our Agni. The most important thing
00:16:06is to keep in mind the quantity and both,
00:16:09meaning how much portion, because if diseases
00:16:13are happening today, it's not only because of diet. How much to eat, what
00:16:17to eat, when to eat. Eat only when you are
00:16:20hungry, and from sunrise to sunset,
00:16:23meaning follow the sun. When the sun rises,
00:16:27from 9 AM to 7 PM, our breakfast, lunch,
00:16:31and dinner should be within this period. There should be a three-hour
00:16:34gap between two meals, at least. These are all
00:16:38principles of Ayurveda. At night,
00:16:41after 7-8 PM, if we eat anything, then the strength of Agni,
00:16:45the heat of the sun, does not provide the strength of Agni,
00:16:49which then leads to Ama formation. And in the nocturnal
00:16:52routine, it is said that sleep should be at least
00:16:56six to eight hours, from 11 PM to 5 AM,
00:17:00because all anabolic activity happens at that time. So, this
00:17:03diet, sleep, and Brahmacharya
00:17:38So I think holistic integrated care,
00:17:41prevention, protecting health, these are all
00:17:45our principles, which we should follow.
00:17:48Therefore, the theme of Ayurveda Day
00:17:51this year is primarily,
00:17:55Ayurveda is for health tomorrow. That's right.
00:17:58And these are all the dangers, which
00:18:02collectively, those elements that are affecting our lifestyle and somewhere
00:18:06or the other, as Dr. Tanuja said, are increasing the
00:18:09risk of diseases, and a person is moving
00:18:13towards disease. So, this balance has to be created. The
00:18:16imbalance has to be balanced because Ayurveda is
00:18:19discipline, Ayurveda is balance, and Ayurveda
00:18:23is the science of a healthy, disease-free life. Dr. Yogita,
00:18:27nowadays, non-communicable diseases have increased a lot.
00:18:30Which parameters, Dr. Tanuja
00:18:33Neswari has explained how
00:19:07nowadays we see it more from the perspective of curative science,
00:19:10whereas Ayurveda is a lifestyle,
00:19:14in a way we can call it a style of living, and this
00:19:17has been seen for centuries on the basis of
00:19:21experience, this science has developed. So, there are
00:19:25many such things that are very simple in your day-to-day
00:19:28lifestyle, how you should
00:19:32live. There are many things that if you
00:19:36look at them, you will feel that this is the right way. Like sleeping
00:19:39on time, we see all the animals around
00:19:43us, whatever animal kingdom there is, all follow the circadian
00:19:47rhythm that they have to wake up in the morning on time.
00:19:50People hear the chirping of birds before they wake
00:19:53up nowadays, and they sleep as soon as it gets dark.
00:19:57So, this circadian rhythm gives us
00:20:01to follow that when the morning sun rises,
00:20:05we should wake up and with that, we
00:20:39that means I feel some pain in my chest, and
00:20:43I mean, I feel why is this happening to me at this age?
00:20:46I mean, what is your weight, Rajiv ji?
00:20:5056 kg. Okay, fine. And height
00:20:53is 157 or 60 cm.
00:20:56Right. Dr. Mahesh, what would you advise
00:21:00him? He is also taking thyroxin tablets and has started having
00:21:03many health issues already at a very young age.
00:21:06Yes, first of all, one main thing seems to be that
00:21:10either he takes too much stress about certain things, so he should try to
00:21:14remove stress from his life, and as Professor
00:21:17Tanuja ji had just mentioned, if he organizes his daily routine,
00:21:21I wanted to ask him what time he sleeps at night.
00:21:24Nowadays, children study all night and sleep in the morning,
00:21:28meaning they neither get proper sleep nor do they have a proper diet,
00:21:32and those who don't study stay glued to their phones. So,
00:21:36I would tell them to get six to seven hours of good sleep,
00:21:39sleep on time at night, wake up on time in the morning,
00:21:43and definitely follow three principles daily, one special
00:21:47principle among them is exercise. So, if
00:21:50we do this properly, we will definitely stay healthy, and one more advice
00:21:54I have for them is that if they experience chest pain, they should consult a doctor,
00:21:58get a proper check-up, and take those medicines according
00:22:01to their guidance. They will definitely be healthy. Yes, Dr. Yogita, you were
00:22:05telling something important about how if the rhythm goes wrong,
00:22:08health also starts to deteriorate. Yes, we were talking about non-communicable
00:22:12diseases. As India is also being called the diabetes capital of the
00:22:16world because the number of diseases is increasing
00:22:20here. Besides this, with modernization, we see
00:22:23that as the urban population increases, the burden
00:22:29increases, like you will see obesity, and due to
00:22:32stress, the stress that is increasing in our day-to-day life,
00:22:36because of that, hypertension. So, all these
00:22:39diseases are happening a lot because of our urban
00:22:43population and because our routine is bad, because we don't
00:22:47follow the circadian rhythm. So, when we look
00:22:50at it from the perspective of Ayurveda, in Ayurveda,
00:22:54you have been told how your daily
00:22:57lifestyle should be. A lot of importance has been given to
00:23:01daily routine, that you should wake up in the
00:23:04morning, and after waking up, how you should
00:23:08exercise, for how long, for example, for exercise,
00:23:12it has been said that work that causes fatigue in the body
00:23:15is called exercise, and how long should it be done? Until
00:23:19you feel sweating, you should do it. So,
00:23:23in this way, every small thing has been explained in
00:23:26great detail. So, if we try to adapt
00:23:30our lifestyle according to Ayurveda, as Dr. Tanuja
00:23:33madam had said, that diet plays a very important
00:23:36role. We generally have our dinner
00:23:40nowadays only after sunset,
00:23:43and after that, there is no two to three hour difference
00:23:47between your sleeping and eating. You eat and sleep.
00:23:51No walk, no movement, nothing. So, that, as
00:23:55our caller just said, he gets gas in the morning,
00:23:58so one reason for this could also be what time you had dinner
00:24:02and what time you slept. So, if we make
00:24:06even small changes in these things,
00:24:10if we, suppose, if you eat dinner at 9 PM,
00:24:14you won't be able to eat it at 7 PM all of a sudden. So, if you make
00:24:17changes of 15-15 minutes every week,
00:24:21then you will automatically start seeing solutions
00:24:25to your problems. As for other NCDs,
00:24:28we have yoga, meditation for stress,
00:24:32focusing, spending at least 10 to 15 minutes
00:24:36with nature, where you don't talk to anyone.
00:24:39So, these are the things that help
00:24:43you reduce stress. So, with these, we
00:24:46can reduce the burden of NCDs in India at this time. Yes, the biggest
00:24:50threat is the growth of non-communicable diseases.
00:24:54So, in the coming time, it will be a huge
00:24:57burden for our medical institutions,
00:25:01and since health is our own
00:25:04responsibility, it is important for us
00:25:08that we are a growing economy, we should maintain
00:25:12our health. The per capita expenditure
00:25:15that will be incurred in the coming time can
00:25:18be largely controlled by our regular
00:25:22lifestyle today. Yes, not only can the quality of life be improved,
00:25:26but the expenditure incurred for treatment
00:25:30to cure diseases can also be reduced. We just need to make
00:25:33changes, adopt some good habits,
00:25:37and give up some unhealthy habits,
00:25:41because Ayurveda focuses specifically on this
00:25:44that if you want to stay healthy, then your diet, lifestyle,
00:25:48thoughts, and even your values should be
00:25:51pure. Today we are talking about the importance of Ayurveda
00:25:55for health, and we have another expert joining us

00:27:43India. Connecting with one's nature to maintain
00:27:46health and the holistic
00:27:50method of improving
00:27:53one's health is Ayurveda. Today, in Total Health, we are talking about how this health can be
00:27:56improved through Ayurveda. Dr. Deepa has joined us.
00:28:00Dr. Deepa, there are many risks to women's health and
00:28:04women have to go through many ups and downs, many
00:28:07stages in their lives. How important
00:28:11is Ayurveda in different age groups not only for preventing
00:28:15diseases but also for the steps before that, preventive health,
00:28:19whether it is adolescent girls or pregnant women,
00:28:23or the pre and post menopausal age group,
00:28:26and how useful it can be for keeping
00:28:30women of all age groups healthy?
00:28:36In Ayurveda, you have just heard from our
00:28:39different specialist experts that the main objective of Ayurveda
00:28:43is to protect the health of healthy individuals.
00:28:47That is the foremost objective. So, special
00:28:50attention has also been given to women's bodies in Ayurveda.
00:28:53Right
00:28:56from childhood to the perimenopausal and menopausal
00:29:00phase, every situation has been specially explained
00:29:04in Ayurveda, and
00:29:06specifically, as there is a description
00:29:09of daily routine and seasonal routine, similarly,
00:29:13there is also a description of the menstrual
00:29:16cycle in women. So, a lot of focus
00:29:19has been given in Ayurveda to what diet and lifestyle should be followed,
00:29:23what is wholesome and what is unwholesome. These have been described
00:29:27because a woman's life
00:29:30begins when she is born.
00:29:34So, even during pregnancy, a regimen
00:29:37has been described, what a pregnant woman
00:29:41should take, what is appropriate for her, and what
00:29:45should be avoided, its description is given in Ayurveda.
00:29:49Yes, we are going to celebrate Ayurveda Day
00:29:52on September 23rd. Dr. Mahesh, we will learn about it from you. Before
00:29:56that, let's take a question from Ram Mohan ji from Ranchi who is on the phone line with
00:29:59us. Ram Mohan ji, welcome. What is
00:30:03Namaste, I want to know about my mother. She is 71 years old.
00:30:07Yes, and in 2014, she had a brain tumor
00:30:10operation, and then her brain
00:30:14tumor recurred. So, I want to know if there is a treatment for it in
00:30:18Ayurveda. Yes, Dr. Tanuja, for brain
00:30:21tumor, surgery has already been done, and
00:30:25it has recurred, the tumor has come back. Is there any
00:30:28remedy available in Ayurveda for this? In Ayurveda,
00:30:33at all stages, complementary,
00:30:36add-on, palliative, secondary
00:30:40prevention, all types of remedies
00:30:43are available. When was her tumor
00:30:46surgery done, what type of tumor was it, what
00:30:51it is very important to consult a doctor
00:30:55for all this because online consultation
00:30:59for this is not possible.
