00:28:55that this is a process of selecting professional people.
00:28:59I remain an optimist, I believe that... in the prosecutor's
00:29:03system and generally in the legal profession of Ukraine, there are strong and
00:29:06powerful people who would possibly agree to perform this
00:29:09role, but they need to be provided with normal conditions, and again,
00:29:13a normal selection system needs to be created.
00:29:16So, how likely do you think such an option is, or should
00:29:20the parliament still consider the bill
00:29:23and radically change the approach
00:29:26and have the competition
00:29:30as proposed in the bill that is currently registered in parliament? Well, for
00:29:33the future, a competition is definitely needed, but for now,
00:29:37what we see is that Ukraine already
00:29:40needs a Prosecutor General, not an acting one, because we know
00:29:43that we have had an acting head of the Security Service
00:29:46of Ukraine for a long time, and well, that's quite wrong during
00:29:50martial law, because these are law enforcement
00:29:53agencies that must have a permanent
00:29:56head. And what Mr. Andriy Osaychuk proposes seems
00:30:00to make sense as a transitional
00:30:03moment until the bill is
00:30:06adopted, and everything will then be
00:30:10brought into the legal framework, because we understand that
00:30:13adopting a bill, well, such a rather
00:30:16interesting, rather ambiguous one,
00:30:19takes a certain amount of time, and
00:30:23all this will not be adopted next
00:30:27week. I remind you that the council will only convene in three
00:30:30weeks, so until the end... of October, at least
00:30:33we will have an acting Prosecutor General,
00:30:37and it seems that during this time, an informal competition could be held,
00:30:40and this is quite a good, by the way,
00:30:44initiative and a good interim
00:30:47option until the bill is
00:30:50adopted and enters into force. But the fact
00:30:53that there is no Prosecutor General should probably
00:30:57please the people's deputies of Ukraine.
