00:07:37raise taxes, well that's as Britain is expected to
00:07:41spend 19 billion pounds more each year on
00:07:45disability benefits by the end the decade.
00:07:49after Andy Buurnam refused to tackle the balloon welfare
00:07:53bill on the upcoming budget. now of course the conservatives have
00:07:56criticized his failure to act accusing labor once again
00:08:00of putting social security over national
00:08:03safety, but um I mean I suppose he's got to
00:08:07find the money somewhere and taxing the rich would make
00:08:11sense, but of course... Star promised he wouldn't, so
00:08:14um, what do we think, Jennifer Pass, who I've just introduced earlier,
00:08:18uh, is here with us, do you think these rumors probably might be true
00:08:22now? Good morning, well, it it does seem to be that that
00:08:26that that the rumor is picking up, um, it would make sense
00:08:29politically for him to lock a full five-year
00:08:33term, um, to have that personal mandate that he lacks, because he won
00:08:37the by-election in Makerfield rather than national, uh,
00:08:40general election, however, "one has to wonder
00:08:44if despite the political uh rational that
00:08:48the economy will intervene. I mean, we have very, very big
00:08:52budget coming up at the end of October, John Healey's first budget
00:08:56as chancellor, and the debt markets, we've seen the spike in
00:09:0030 year and 10 year guilts, that's the cost to the government of
00:09:04borrowing, they've gone up 28 year highs,
00:09:07um, the very interesting to see the former
00:09:11economist the bank of England." Andy Hansein intervened during the
00:09:14week saying that there was a real risk uh
00:09:18internationally that uh Burnham's government was seen as
00:09:22classic tax and spend socialist government with
00:09:25better TikTok videos. So it may
00:09:29be that despite his his desire to get a full
00:09:32term uh you know from from the new year that
00:09:35that it the public finances and the state the economy will
00:09:39mean that his opinion poll ratings go off cliff. Yeah. well
00:09:43talking of opinion poll ratings, the latest episouse poll have
00:09:47just seen at the moment puts them four points ahead of
00:09:51reform, going into the party conference of course where you
00:09:55always get a bit of a bounce anyway, but perhaps
00:09:58incentive with everything you said about the the
00:10:02economy and how international uh affairs
00:10:06and issues can really impact it such as the war in Iran for
00:10:09instance um maybe going sooner. other than later
00:10:13is exactly what he might be incentivized to do, well
00:10:17indeed, I mean, he's in a great pull uh,
00:10:21pull position compared to his predecessor, he's he's got the b'.
00:10:25bounce and as you say, um, going into party conference a
00:10:29week's time is likely to get quite a lot of air time
00:10:33and potentially another bounce. um, i
00:10:36personally think that he he may have already waited too long, i think he would have
00:10:40perhaps been better to go in july when he became prime
00:10:43minister, because that that was before, um, because he was
00:10:47incredibly popular at that point, well yeah, there's nothing anyone could pin
00:10:50against him,
00:10:51you know, the conservatives are reform whomever could have said, oh, 'you know you
00:10:55haven't dealt with the the the benefits bill which we may touch on or you haven't
00:10:59funded defense and all their criticism would fallen because
00:11:01have flat he would have said well give a chance I'm going to do
00:11:05everything he could have made every promise so um I I just
00:11:09wonder if the economic reality will collide and derail
00:11:13his uh political plans well it does sound like he is
00:11:16not minded at the moment anyway to make any swinging
00:11:20cuts on benefits especially seeing
00:11:23such uh you know pmqs with the you wouldn't do it
00:11:27at the cost of social security, yeah exactly, national security can't come at the cost of
00:11:30social, mean that doesn't sound like a prime minister who's going to go
00:11:34c, mean part of me wonders is
00:11:37you know he is better at politics than than the former prime minister Kier Stamer,
00:11:41so maybe he's talking left but will actually act a
00:11:45bit more right-wing in practice, maybe he will uh you
00:11:48know make some cuts uh in the budget or or in the
00:11:52spending review next spring um but
00:11:55you know, as you say, it it doesn't give that impression at all when he's been
00:11:59on at the dispatch box or in the media, and
00:12:02really the dividing lines um are
00:12:06really becoming clear, I mean
00:12:08we had three interventions from the conservatives on the
00:12:11economy and on the budget this week, we had Andrew Griffith, the shadow
00:12:15chancelor, give his first major speech on Thursday, we had Richard Fuller
00:12:19who's a shadow treasury minister, make an intervention
00:12:22yesterday uh claiming the government ment was in denial about the state the
00:12:26public finances and you saying they should get a grip and then today
00:12:30we have the story um with Helen Waitley who's in the Shadow Treasury team
00:12:34who's talking about that massive rise in the disability
00:12:38payments, the pit payments that are looking to go up so much over the next few
00:12:42years, so the conservatives uh obviously wanting to
00:12:45say we're on the side of national security, this government
00:12:49isn't taking the state the public finances seriously wants to pretend he's doing
00:12:53both then the obvious way to is tax the rich, isn't it? well, and
00:12:57we've seen that, because we saw um some kite flying, even
00:13:00yesterday uh, with uh things in the paper around
00:13:03potentially uh, I mean this is potential changes to a potential
00:13:07tax that hasn't been introduced yet, but I'm talking about the mansion tax, um,
00:13:11so originally that was proposed to come in at homes worth 2 million, um, and there's been
00:13:15talk over the weekend that that thresh hold will be lowered to 1.5 million
00:13:19to bring in um, extra 800 million or so
00:13:22pounds, but you're getting dangerously close to... the kind of three
00:13:26bedroom two bath semi in London and the
00:13:28southeast at least, now I know people elsewhere in the
00:13:32country may have little sympathy with that, but there's lots of very middle class people
00:13:36who own houses very near to that bracket um and of course it's
00:13:40introducing huge um huge impact
00:13:44a huge disruption on the housing market so we don't quite know um where that
00:13:47will lead yeah but the traditional labor voter and probably an awful lot
00:13:51of his back benchers wouldn't see anything wrong with that no and This is
00:13:55what's I think making h so popular with the party, I mean he's going into the party
00:13:59conference, riding high, his comments about about Gaza
00:14:03and Israel um and his comments about the importance of social
00:14:06security, um so as you say he he's much better at
00:14:10playing to the left wing and playing to his back benchers. Uh, it's
00:14:14interesting, some people have been in touch already, Jazzy says and he doesn't have to find the money,
00:14:18Andy Burnham that is, he doesn't have to find it, he needs to stop paying it out,
00:14:22yes, but he won't, will he, he's already indicated that. that
00:14:26was yeah, that is an option, but not one he seems he's going to willing to
00:14:30take, yeah, yeah, um, miss jones, morning says, labor just
00:14:34simply looking after their voters, well, i think that's probably very good, easy way
00:14:38to put it, um, and brian says 40 is way too old to have
00:14:41baby,
00:14:42oh wow, oh oh, my mom was 30 when she had me, and she was
00:14:46much older than my classmate's mom, so that felt too old as I grew
00:14:50up, I know things have changed, but can you imagine Lady Gagar at

00:15:01ages you should be thinking about having kids, oh dear, no, I'm sorry, I
00:15:05really don't agree with that, that seems a bit, that seems a bit, age of
00:15:0940, and I was running around at 50, people are much
00:15:12younger and fitter now, a
00:15:16comparative age to, and women have careers, much
00:15:20more than they did, maybe even a generation ago, they have careers first, and then they
00:15:24decide, it's a difficult. decision, but um, because then it gets very
00:15:27expensive, as we all know, but do continue to come in with
00:15:31your comments, yeah, very good comments very early in the morning, any

00:16:45Hi, I'm Richard England, I'm the Anglican Vickor of Crofton Parish.
00:16:49You two once sang grace. It's the name for a
00:16:53girl, it's also a thought that changed the world. The
00:16:57writer CS Lewis described Grace as the
00:17:00unique, defining quality of Christianity. Grace
00:17:04says that it doesn't matter who you are or what you've done, 'if you come
00:17:08humbly to God in true repentance, you can be forgiven
00:17:11and you can start over. That seems almost unfair,
00:17:15doesn't it? What about justice? What about
00:17:18consequences? Jesus told a parable about
00:17:22agricultural workers a vineyard. In the
00:17:25parable, everyone got paid the same, no matter what time
00:17:29they started work. Understandably, those that worked
00:17:33all day were miffed when the afternoon laborers'...
00:17:37got the same wages they did. The
00:17:41parable exposes the scandal of grace.
00:17:45Grace doesn't measure our worthiness, which is a good thing, because
00:17:49if it did, we'd all fall short. Grace responds to
00:17:52one thing: the humble heart that acknowledges its need
00:17:56for forgiveness and comes with the desire to
00:18:00start again. We all have to live with the consequences of
00:18:04our actions, but grace open. the door
00:18:08into God's forgiveness and the chance to live differently in
00:18:12our lives and our world, and grace holds that door
00:18:16open to anyone who would
00:18:18enter.
00:18:27This Christmas you may be very lucky to see a Robin, because
00:18:31apparently they've been hit particularly badly by the extremely hot
00:18:35weather we had during the summer. because of course they like to they
00:18:39like um earth with lots of worms and grubs and
00:18:42apparently uh
00:18:43but the drought has had really bad effect on obviously hardening up the ground so
00:18:47they can't yeah and then - and it's also been too hot for some many
00:18:50bugs so apparently Robins would normally have about three lots of
00:18:54babies um every year which I didn't know
00:18:58um yeah Robins have been particularly hard hit I wonder how we can look
00:19:01after our robins well yeah I mean the the difficulty is when you put
00:19:05things out in the garden now you got squirrels, yes, the squirrels come and get it, I've tried
00:19:09doing that, and that's a real problem. talking of weather, should we catch up
00:19:13with it, see what it's going to be like for us today, here's a

00:19:36today, which means means there should be lots of sunshine, and if we do see any
00:19:40showers this morning, those should quickly ease away. for most though, it should be
00:19:44dry and bright start to the day. well, we'll see some rainers across Scotland. still
00:19:48a bit blustery here to start the day, but soon winds will ease away and most
00:19:52the showers clearing across Scotland as well. so actually for many of us it should
00:19:56be dry bright end to the weekend, plenty of sunshine, and although
00:20:00temperatures are touchdown compared to yesterday, with lighter winds and more
00:20:04sunshine, it should feel rather pleasant for us all. temperatures wide. in the mid
00:20:07to high teens, if not the low 20s across eastern and southeast
00:20:11England. Now to finish off the day, we could start to
00:20:15see a bit more clouds start to feed through across areas of Scotland. Perhaps still the
00:20:19odd light shower just pushing through into the northern is, but much
00:20:23lighter winds compared to what we saw yesterday afternoon, a little bit of cloud
00:20:27just pushing into northern Ireland, perhaps northern and northwest England, but
00:20:31elsewhere across much of England or Wales, there should be clear skies to finish off
00:20:35the day, so some late evening sunshine. and then we start to see a bit of a
00:20:38change overnight, cloud continuing to thicken across Scotland, northern
00:20:42Ireland and northern parts of England, and eventually this will be thick enough to produce some
00:20:46rain through the early hours of Monday, so another quite wet start across...

00:20:54but actually once again across central, southern England and Wales,

00:28:44answer. making this whole excuse that he's not political and he never gets involved, but he was
00:28:48perfectly comfortable getting involved with Ukraine and supporting
00:28:52them. rightfully so, but he can't take the same
00:28:55approach to another to genocide happening against the people
00:28:59of Gaza. everybody should be entitled to their opinion. but you shouldn't make
00:29:03a part of your performance, it should get involved politically if they have
00:29:07to, they shouldn't just stay silent. yeah, mean he has lot of
00:29:11money. the uh the lead singer the googoo dolls, i think he's called
00:29:15john resnick said um he doesn't want fans to come to his
00:29:18concerts and lecture them politically and doesn't care from what background they're from,

01:07:37that. The conservatives meanwile then have criticized his failure to act
01:07:41accusing lady. once again of putting social security
01:07:45over national safety, well it's all part of
01:07:49a grander plan uh or should say is it all part
01:07:52of a grander plan, who knows, maybe
01:07:56Jennifer Power can um give us some insight
01:08:00into whether you think there is a grand plan at
01:08:03play to take us into early election, well there's mixed signals
01:08:07aren't there, mean we h we thought annie burnam had a grand plan when
01:08:11he uh arrived to number 10 only to find out through some
01:08:15leaks this week that um much the plan had been Kier
01:08:19Starmer's plan that he a sense chosen implement, it made
01:08:22me laugh though, because some the journalists involved in that were making a big
01:08:26deal the fact that um
01:08:29you know the there were detailed announcements in different
01:08:33areas and on the energy brief which I used to cover in number 10
01:08:37it had you know faster on electrification and
01:08:40do more on insulation and just made me laugh because I thought it's not a secret
01:08:44plan, that's not Kier Stamer's plan, that's not Andy Burnon's plan, that is just what
01:08:48the energy department will say if you ask them what to do, that is
01:08:52the bog standard thing um that that those looking
01:08:56implement net zero as quickly enforcefully as possible will put
01:09:00forward, so um I didn't feel like it was any particular prime
01:09:03minister's um vision for the future, it was just the civil
01:09:06service progressing the civil services
01:09:10agendas um the traditional image. of um labor government
01:09:14is to tax and spend, yes, and they've got to spend, otherwise people are
01:09:18going to go mad about that, because we we know we need more money in defense
01:09:21spending, at least. Andy Burnam has already more or less said
01:09:25full, full on, that he won't cut back on, he
01:09:29said social um spending is more important
01:09:33than um, yes, he said it shouldn't come at the, it shouldn't come at the
01:09:37so he and John Healey must be having very detailed talks
01:09:41about where they're going to find. enough money to pay both bills
01:09:44amongst others and the obvious way is to tax the
01:09:48rich, I'm not suggesting to tax the rich, I'm just saying they are
01:09:52probably thinking that way, yes, and and we've already seen a few leaks, we've
01:09:56uh we we saw uh the leak uh just yesterday around lowering the threshold
01:09:59for the mansion tax uh from the proposed 2 million
01:10:03to 1.5 million, perhaps it'll you know be brought down
01:10:07even further bringing more and more families into that um to try to get you
01:10:11know have... billion or billion pounds of extra tax revenue.
01:10:15um, in the past, we've had governments raise indirect
01:10:18taxes, so um, things like insurance premium
01:10:22tax, well, you may think, okay, fine, the they're raising the tax on insurance,
01:10:26well, you you go to go on your you, your holiday to Mallorca or
01:10:30Abitha or or whatever, you're you know Tampa, Florida, and you
01:10:34wonder why,
01:10:35you know, it costs so much to get your travel insurance, and because
01:10:39you know, half of
01:10:41it is is down to insurance. has been raising, so the government is often
01:10:44looking for specific um populations, like those
01:10:48who own own bigger houses, um, or other indirect
01:10:51taxes to make the numbers work, but it gets harder and harder
01:10:55because they seem to have reached the limit at which they can raise
01:10:58taxes uh, where it will still bring in more revenue because you get to
01:11:02point where when taxes are a certain level that you actually if you
01:11:06raise them more you get less revenue because people actually work less
01:11:10or the very rich leave the country so you can't can't just keep keep
01:11:13taxing and expect to get more revenue, but they're also after a quick fix, aren't
01:11:17they? because you know it takes time if you cut for
01:11:20instance business rates, taxes on companies and the like
01:11:24for that then to filter through for the confidence to grow, for them to then
01:11:28invest for the economy to grow, you then tax rich
01:11:32as they seem to have this fixation for doing, that
01:11:36for them that's instant straight into the exchecker, well
01:11:40guess the benefit of tax raises is is that they are. often can come in on the day
01:11:43the budget or sometimes at the start the next tax year, but you're quite right
01:11:47in that um, there have a real uh, it's
01:11:51going to be a real um challenge for them to make the numbers work,
01:11:55especially because the fiscal headroom has shrunk over the past few weeks because we've
01:11:59seen inflation creeping back in globally, we've seen a rise
01:12:03in borrowing costs um and so that really
01:12:06puts Heale a corner in terms of how he's going to how he's going to
01:12:10make uh everything add up and we had the headline
01:12:13earlier about the huge rise in
01:12:17projected rise in the in the personal independence payment, the disability
01:12:20payments. um, now labor will come back and say,
01:12:23look, um, stephen tims is undertaking review
01:12:27of pip, we had that, we had that, um, sorry, i
01:12:31was racing my ey, we we had we had
01:12:35mark feeling quite skeptical about that, yes, we had a we had a provisional
01:12:39report and the final reports at the end the year, but to your point, "we're only going to
01:12:43get the the final report at the end the year, and then how long will it take
01:12:47for them implement it? it might not actually fix the
01:12:50problem, and we're many years in the future, the reputation the prime minister and the
01:12:54chancellor." live or die frankly by the next by the well it it's
01:12:58interesting, i mean some ways you know uh one never really gets away from
01:13:02George Osborne despite the fact that he's not been uh chancelor for very many
01:13:05years, but he's got you know eight or nine jobs and he's has his own
01:13:09podcast and I was listening to it the other day and he was talking about how he was at the
01:13:13investor Day in Canada with Mark Harney of course who his good mates with
01:13:17because he appointed Mark Harney to be governor the back bank of
01:13:20England and um he was talking about how Canada was making this pitch to
01:13:24global investors um because that's the sort of thing that
01:13:27even um you know uh G7 G20 countries have
01:13:31to do nowadays, it's not something um like in the old days that was seen
01:13:35as beneath you know a Canada or a Germany to
01:13:38do uh and they were having to
01:13:40you know make their pitch to global investors and he was saying you know this
01:13:43country it would be very hard pitch for Burnham and
01:13:47Healey to make were they to do that as well because the state the
01:13:51public finances because it takes a while as you say
01:13:55um for changes they make to feed through, and no one has ever taxed
01:13:59a country into prosperity, yet that seems to be the
01:14:03government's plan as best as we can make it out, so how that tallies
01:14:07with rumors of early election, um, we'll just have to wait and see, because
01:14:11those two realities may collide, the prime minister wanning that
01:14:15five-year mandate with the state the economy, yeah, they clash a bit, don't they,

01:16:44experts in everything he said and the way he said it about he'd
01:16:48been you know what was it bursting to he can't
01:16:52he couldn't keep quite any longer on on the issue?

01:32:28got pregnant at 38 and I went to the doctors and she's
01:32:32called a geriatric mother and was
01:32:35offended, i cannot tell you, i was like,
01:32:39geriatric, that literally means old frail past it,
01:32:43and i'm 38 years old, and look, i think that
01:32:47woman in her 40s, lady gaga is a
01:32:50multi-millionaire, she is bringing this child into the world,
01:32:54can give them the best resources, the best possible
01:32:57life, and as a 40-year-old mom, now i
01:33:01am uh,
01:33:02but must say I think it's fabulous. I have so
01:33:06much life experience that I think I'm in the best possible
01:33:10position to like mold my child and help him navigate through
01:33:14life struggles because I've been on the planet four
01:33:18decades nearly five um and I i think that's great. I've had my
01:33:22party days that's all out of my system. I think I'm
01:33:25a I think I'm a great mom but I think I'm a great position to be a
01:33:29mom because of my age. I don't think it's... selfish, i think it's
01:33:33selfish to have baby when you can't um
01:33:37provide for them or forcing young girls into having
01:33:41children that they don't want to have because people are against things like a b'.
01:33:45and things like that, so that to me is is way more selfish and irresponsible,
01:33:49having a baby in your 40s is fabulous. Debbie, what do you
01:33:52think? well, first of all, you're a geriatric mother, over
01:33:5630, certainly over 30, it's it's a medical
01:33:59term, yeah, it's a medical term, and I was
01:34:03classed as geriatric mother with my first child when I was 30, and I w,
01:34:07what, um, I, really, that's when that's
01:34:11then, back in 1416, and you know, actually. 'when we had
01:34:15our babies, that's that's what it was, it depends how you
01:34:19call older, i think what you've got to look at is is is
01:34:22nature,
01:34:23you know, there is reason why we stop ovulating
01:34:27a certain age so we can't have children, because it's there's a lot of reasons
01:34:31behind it, and it's nothing to do with dying early, it's to do, i'm sure
01:34:35it's to do with bloody energy to be honest with you, you have to have
01:34:39as mother lot of energy, now at the moment your little boy is,
01:34:43when he is 15, you're going to be 50'. five and
01:34:46that is is different and fabulous of
01:34:49course, but but it it's it,
01:34:53I think it's nothing to do with money, it's everything
01:34:56to do with energy, it's a lot to do with time, and I know these
01:34:59days older people have money, but you know, it doesn't matter, it's about
01:35:03love with kid, and I think you've got to look at your own biology
01:35:07to wonder why the good lord said, new more babies after a certain
01:35:11age, dear, but as a species, you know, people
01:35:15are living longer, they're uh fitter and healthier
01:35:19uh to much later changed has it hasn't
01:35:23changed the you know that we as women we can have uh
01:35:27biological babies to a certain age and i think too is even to a certain
01:35:30extent women have always had babies into their 50s because they've had large families
01:35:34and even in their 50s they've had babies so that's not
01:35:38against people having but think everyone you know in america lady
01:35:42gaga another surrogat you
01:35:44you know because why? because they can't be botherd to go through pregnancy, because
01:35:48they can't. we don't know that that's the
01:35:52whatever the reason is she chose to have a suragat. the but the point
01:35:56is, mean when i mean when the baby is 30,
01:36:00lady Garga i can imagine we'll still be full of beans, mean there's she
01:36:04should be, she'll have the energy. yeah, exactly, and to be a
01:36:07grandparent, mean now because i've got three grandsons, i don't know how many you've got

01:36:15one is four, and so that you know they, this is my time

01:36:42o'clock, definitely dip, I must say. having that four o'clock
01:36:46slump for sure that I never got in my 20s and 30s, but I
01:36:49wouldn't change it. I wouldn't want to have had a child
01:36:53earlier, because I think I can give my child more
01:36:56now as a parent than I could back then emotionally. Yes, my
01:37:00energy levels might not be quite as high and I'm not, bouncing off the walls all the
01:37:04time, but I feel like I can help him be a well-rounded,
01:37:07non-misogynistic, wonderful member the male society that
01:37:11believes in things like equality and um... not
01:37:15misogyny and and um women being fabulous
01:37:18and equal rights and all those wonderful things that the new generation of men
01:37:22hopefully coming out will have. well we
01:37:25leave it very quickly say we've all
01:37:29tried that yeah yeah i think
01:37:31the the only regret I have with my last two babies is
01:37:35that um they never knew their grandparents uh and that's that
01:37:39and that's whereas my my first child three children did
01:37:42but um and that's that's the... That's a risk that you run,

01:41:42a co-owner, he bought uh 27.7% the club in
01:41:462024, a cost of around 1.3
01:41:50billion pounds, he's been no stranger to controversy since then, he's
01:41:54an he's a petrochemicals engineer, he founded in some years
01:41:58ago he's worth about 15 billion pounds. now look at what he's done at
01:42:02the club, mean he's overseen 450 redundancies, he had that that row about
01:42:05paperclips,
01:42:06was there a couple of years ago talking about the stationary budget at the
01:42:09at the club, oh that was him, yeah that was him, yeah yeah, and the sack two managers as well,
01:42:13you can criticize what he's done in terms of how united performed on the pitch, but guess he
01:42:17would, he would say look you know i don't own all the
01:42:20clubs i don't have total control on what goes on, but it's his venture
01:42:23into politics uh that has uh araused some
01:42:27some have some backlash over the last 24 hours or so now just take us
01:42:31back, i'm going to take us back to February when he apologized for comments saying that the country had been
01:42:35connalized by uh by immigrants and the club had to then step in
01:42:38and say that the club is prides itself on being inclusive now he
01:42:42said yesterday he gave an interview we're going to hear from him in a
01:42:46moment but it was much along the same lines just here what he had to
01:42:49say at the moment i think the UK is on the
01:42:53slide it's quite difficult to see how we arrest
01:42:57it's but I think ultimately we need politicians, two
01:43:01two things, we need politicians who are tough enough to deal
01:43:05with some very difficult problems, and we know what the problems are, and we need politicians who
01:43:09will make decisions which are good for the country, not good for
01:43:12themselves and their party. So that's the Jim
01:43:16Ratcliff there, the Muslim fans group at Manchester United released a statement
01:43:20yesterday saying that when he apologized for his choice of for his choice of
01:43:23language uh early this year, we hoped a lesson had been learned clear.
01:43:27they say it has not, we find his latest comments deeply disappointing and
01:43:31completely unacceptable, they go to say that he should resign from his
01:43:35position, now I'm not really sure that they understand how thing these things work, because he
01:43:38owns, he owns 1.2, one over
01:43:42billion pounds worth of shares in the club, you'd have to sell them to move on,
01:43:45that it's not an easy set of shares to um to get rid of or dispose of
01:43:49are they, but nonetheless Manchester United are action today against against Fullham and
01:43:52there's no sign of him backtracking uh as yet, I guess from the players point of view they'll
01:43:56say, well it's... at least it's a diversionary tactic away from what's happening on the pitch because they've not made very
01:44:00good start to the season

01:48:24Okay, let's look through the newspapers now with Steven Allen and Emma Wolf. Can we start
01:48:28with this story about um Britain
01:48:30facing uh please, the Caribbean
01:48:34reparation, slavery reparation. Yes, and the quick
01:48:37clip notes version would be the UK's races. uh, but the greater
01:48:41detail is that the Caribbean states now looking a way of trying to bring a lawsuit.
01:48:45now the thing, the reason it couldn't be brought before is because we've got an exemption from the international court
01:48:49of justice, which means any issue that dates before
01:48:521987, we can't be sued over. oh, which the
01:48:56slavery abolished technically in 1834. however, they wanted sews for racial
01:49:00discrimination, which definitely you can argue still goes on, but you'd have to frame that court
01:49:03case differently. mean, when you're i'm not a lawyer and i don't understand
01:49:07all the details in the treaty that this talks about, you get the feeling this is more about
01:49:11raising the issue to have debate rather than this will be successful court
01:49:14case and the the UN says that we should be paying um
01:49:18reparations but it's a thing that can be ignored but then we could have
01:49:21ignored over. 'there are also only make lawyers rich because there are all
01:49:25sorts of um counter arguments aren't there i yeah
01:49:28i don't agree with you 100%
01:49:29i think carry com the kind of community these caribbean nations are pretty serious
01:49:33about this the um prime minister what's her name sorry i don't have
01:49:37the article in front of me who me and molly yeah who's always been very
01:49:41warmly welcomed here and you know kind of comes to these commonwealth events and i
01:49:45think the country have taken her seriously um it's
01:49:49really serious about this she says you know we need to go from being kind of campaigning about this
01:49:53to being advocates in this case, you really really want these millions,
01:49:57presumably billions from the UK for what we
01:50:00did what for what allegedly happened hundreds of years
01:50:03ago, and what about the lives we lost actually trying to fix slave, fixing
01:50:07it, and we're not the only nation who did things differently centuries
01:50:11ago, I mean this kind of it's this rehashing
01:50:15the past, it's this endless kind of pearl clutching about
01:50:19things that may that we wouldn't do now that we did then. 'yeah,
01:50:23language that we might not have used, that we wouldn't use now, that we use back
01:50:26then, times were different, it should fully open the flood gates to have
01:50:30the full discussion, because yes you have to discuss about the UK's role in
01:50:34slavery and the UK's role in ending slavery, which benefits the entire world,
01:50:38what's the, is there a price associated that, and also other slaveries, the ones that are still
01:50:42going on, the ones the Romans did, you have to include everything in the discussion rather than let's just
01:50:46pick on this bit so we can get some reparation, but that's what I mean, it would only make
01:50:50lawyers rich, it really would, oh yeah, this stuff will go on for
01:50:54decades, won't it? of course, human rights lawyers in particular,
01:50:58absolutely. emma, let's go to a subject I know you feel very strongly about
01:51:01it's in the times about the parents who have invented a
01:51:05landline for children, I do feel extremely strongly about this, and if I can just mention
01:51:09I've just finished my new book which is literally all about what on earth
01:51:13is going wrong for young people, and I think part of that, there's lots that's going
01:51:17wrong for young people, but these ballooning anxiety disorders,
01:51:21social you selective. autism, ADHD, the overdiagnosis, all
01:51:25of that, woke parenting, gentle parenting, woke education, the
01:51:28book is called the kids are not all right, which is nord to the who song, the kids
01:51:32are available yet, yeah, it's literally, i think it's being published tomorrow, monday,
01:51:36yeah, congratulations, yeah, so that's very exciting, but it and i think this spans
01:51:40the whole age range from from not to 18, i think we have babies who are hooked
01:51:44to screens, so a big part of this is about screens and about screen
01:51:48addiction, and so this story is trying to get to the
01:51:51root of, "you know, every every child needs a smartphone to stay in
01:51:55touch with their to stay in touch with their friends, and these the group of parents
01:51:59have invented a landline, and honestly when I was writing my
01:52:02book, the fun and the memories of growing up in the
01:52:0690s, talking to people up in the 80's and the 70s and the 60's
01:52:10and falling off climbing frames and going out all day, just being
01:52:14out all day, you got back from school, you took the school uniform
01:52:18off and you played out until it was time, until it was time to come in for your
01:52:21tea." then you went and then you you know you talked to your family, you
01:52:25interacted with people, you played with the neighborhood kids and yeah it wasn't safe,
01:52:29but it was heck of lot safer than being online,
01:52:32isolated, socially anxious in your room with eating
01:52:36disorders, anxiety disorders, unable to make eye contact, i honestly
01:52:40think we've lost the plot with children, and i think this addiction, and we have to be
01:52:44honest, it's an addiction for us, but for children, it's
01:52:47an addiction and it's changing the nature their brains, it's very
01:52:51difficult to... Yeah, you are, if teenagers can't
01:52:55communicate with their friends, how do we take whatsapp away from them, how do we take everything away
01:52:59from them? What do we going to do? Where is this all going? Because if they
01:53:03can't be in the human world,
01:53:05you know, then we have levels of obesity and everything increasing, and it's
01:53:09bad for and blindness. I mean, myopia in young children,
01:53:13because they're not outside, they're not seeing the full spectrum of daylight, they're
01:53:16not looking at the sky and the blue,
01:53:19you know, the the birdies and
01:53:20the and the green trees and all of that. It's a real real
01:53:24movement, I think it's particularly strong um in Norway, Sweden,
01:53:27Finland, for outdoor teaching, for
01:53:31taking lessons out the classroom and out into the woods or
01:53:34something with teachers, still doing, still doing English, when I was choosing a
01:53:38primary school for Ludo, I went through every primary school and I said what's
01:53:42your screen policy, and even now, and he lives a tech free, screen free
01:53:46household with me, I grew up without television, he's not having television, he's not having
01:53:50all of that, and every school said to... 'oh no, there's not much screen time, and of course it
01:53:54creeps in, and he's six years old and he's coming home with login
01:53:58for google classroom, I don't want to bring a child back from school
01:54:02and put him in front of a screen, so very quickly,
01:54:04what is this, what is this landline? yeah, this is a landline, they've kind of
01:54:07reinvented it, it's called uh Yapa, and you pay quite a lot, it's
01:54:11quite expensive,
01:54:12there's a subscription service, and it means that kids can communicate
01:54:16with other kids a sort of a phone that looks like an old
01:54:20landline phone,
01:54:21you know landlines are being totally phased out from January, yeah, all the
01:54:25copper, all the copper and everything, in January all the landlines in the UK will go
01:54:29digital, and the remaining copper analog landline which have been used for decades, will
01:54:33be retired by telecoms company. ever about this subject, i
01:54:36feel so strongly, but we will get you to talk about the book,
01:54:40but uh, for the moment we've got to say that's it, and let's find

02:03:40a bit earlier about the fact that this the drought during the
02:03:43summer um has really affected the plight of Robins.
02:03:47uh and we all want to see them around Christmas, don't we? i like
02:03:50to see them any time the year, but um, apparently Robins, they that's
02:03:54why they come out when you're in the garden and you're doing the gardening, because they love to um,
02:03:58they love freshly raked earth, because that's where all the worms come up and they
02:04:02like those sort of things, meal worms particularly apparently, but of
02:04:05course with the drought the the ground was so hard they could that
02:04:09didn't happen for them uh, plus the drout was also affecting bugs
02:04:13generally, which haven't done so well, um, and so Robins are really very...
02:04:17very um hard up this winter and there're going to be fewer
02:04:21them, they normally have three families year, which is why I've always wondered why my
02:04:25Robins are always nesting because I've got a lot of robins in my garden, so I was - I
02:04:29was doing the trying to because the drought, I was thinking of putting a bird
02:04:32bathh in the garden, so I just put huge old salad bowl and put it in the
02:04:36garden, and it certainly attracted Robin straight away, I did manage to get a
02:04:40little bit of a video of Robin in my garden having a bath, um,
02:04:44so let's just have look
02:04:45at that now, if you've got any... similar, put a bird bath in the
02:04:49garden,
02:04:51that's adorable, yeah, isn't it? fantastic, it's just having a lovely time, and
02:04:55it really was having a really enjoying the water, it's interesting,
02:04:58during the drought the... you know there were appeals uh
02:05:02to put out water for wildlife because
02:05:06clearly the traditional uh sources of water just all
02:05:10dried up so yeah you can understand while they be making a b
02:05:14line for for your bowl well yeah and apparently they do
02:05:18love the meal worms and you can buy dried meal worms from a
02:05:21bird food manufacturer um and uh one of
02:05:25our lovely viewers was saying what she does is she goes and sprinkles them
02:05:29out over the soil every day or every other day
02:05:32um and I think probably Robins really need that sort of support at the
02:05:36moment and do other creatures not go for that then uh donnucks
02:05:40also go with it now I had to look up what a donnuck is um and it's a
02:05:44small like a hedge sparrow they're not actually sparrows but that's what they look
02:05:48like um and the good thing about putting out the dried meal worms
02:05:52or something is that squirrels don't go for that so you're not going to be
02:05:56attracting rats and squirrels you will actually be feeding the birds did you say you're...
02:06:00associated the Robin Red breast with Christmas, yeah, yeah, is that right? I did know
02:06:03that, yeah, you normally see them, oh yes,
02:06:07I do actually, yeah, old school Christmas cards, yeah, people don't really
02:06:10say, they are about, I mean, if they're in your garden or they're near you, oh, apparently
02:06:14the RSPB is very keen on um, trying to take,
02:06:18you know, survey how many are around, uh, if you go to
02:06:22um, it's called, it's an app called bird track
02:06:26or via the garden bird watch survey, um,
02:06:30see if you can find out about it and if if you've got any robins to report and I have
02:06:33um it'd be quite good for to make sure that our robins are doing
02:06:37well cuz it would be terrible if they weren't. I always thought they were a migratory
02:06:41bird though because I never recall growing up seeing
02:06:45Robin Red breast in the summer months or mine are at
02:06:49all yeah yeah they're lovely it's lovely to see them and it's
02:06:52a feeding them uh with without attracting rats and things if
02:06:56feeding them helps then that's nice thing to do.
02:07:00certainly put out power water for them. now should we get down to
02:07:03politics? because the prime minister is apparently plotting early
02:07:07election. there are very strong indications, they say that Andy Burnham wants
02:07:11to hold a snap election in the next year because he wants a mandate of
02:07:15his own to raise taxes. well, that says Britain
02:07:19is expected to spend 19 billion pounds more
02:07:23each year on disability benefits by the end the
02:07:26decade after Andy Burenam refused to tack. call the
02:07:30balloning welfare bill uh apparently in his upcoming budget, well we
02:07:34shall see, I suppose
02:07:35of course the critic - the the critices, I say the
02:07:38conservatives have criticized his failure to act accusing labor
02:07:42once again of putting social security over national
02:07:46security. well GB News political correspondent
02:07:50Katherine Fosteruh joins us now from the lib
02:07:53dem conference in Brighton, in Brighton,
02:07:56yeah uh the weather looks okay there today. um,
02:08:00how's uh, fairing, is he
02:08:04expecting, do you think the possibility of a snap
02:08:08election?
02:08:12well, they won't say it out loud, but i think that it is clearly the
02:08:15liberal democrats hope that they might get back into
02:08:19government via a coalition, they did it uh with the tories in
02:08:23um 2010 to 2015, that alway almost destroyed
02:08:27them, didn't it, that and the pledge a scrap. tuition fees and then
02:08:31voting uh to triple it. um, if Andy
02:08:34Burnham does call early election, and we don't know that this is going to
02:08:38happen, that's what the daily mail are saying, but I don't imagine that uh, the
02:08:42Daily Mail would be the first port of call for uh scoops like this, but we know they're
02:08:46considering all options, um, then it could well be that
02:08:50labor does not keep its majority, there's no really good options
02:08:54for Andy Burnham uh, because if he goes through till
02:08:582029, he's hemmed in by the manifesto
02:09:02uh pledges not to raise the three big taxes income tax
02:09:05uh national insurance on employees and
02:09:09that and we know that the government is very short of money, we
02:09:13know that uh our energy bills are likely to go up in
02:09:17January um because the war in Iran, the global situation
02:09:21is increasingly perilous, all these
02:09:24dire warnings uh from other European countries about what
02:09:28Russia is up to already. and possibly
02:09:31planning, so the situation may get
02:09:34worse if he leaves it, at the moment he's coming, he's
02:09:38had a bit of bounce in the polls, um, people seem
02:09:42to like him, he communicates like normal person, but
02:09:46is it enough of bounce to risk
02:09:50losing the job that he has wanted for well, well over
02:09:54decade, he got it on the third time of trying
02:09:57at the moment, depending on what poll you look at. um labor might
02:10:01be few points above reform,
02:10:03in some they are neck-and- neeck, but I think unless they
02:10:06were sort of 30% plus and well
02:10:09um, for maybe by seven or
02:10:13eight points for a period of time um it would seem to
02:10:17a massive massive gamble but if he
02:10:21took it if he got a majority however slim he could
02:10:24then say look the world has changed it's much more dangerous
02:10:28russia the war in Iran etc etc I'm really sorry but we're going to have to
02:10:32put up um income tax it's very difficult
02:10:36raising taxes um when you've ruled out the sort of three biggest
02:10:40tax raises which account for about two. almost of
02:10:44total tax take, just ask Rachel Reeves
02:10:47uh and the trouble that they got into over inheritance tax for

02:11:05got a lot in common with davy, they work together um in the
02:11:09coalition government, they're both passionate about so... care, so
02:11:13I think the Liberal Democrats will be hopeful, but Ed Davy was
02:11:17speaking to the true believers here at conference last night, let's have look
02:11:21at some of what he had to say, so conference,
02:11:25so conference, what will they hear,
02:11:29we care, we fight, we
02:11:32care, we fight, we care, we
02:11:36fight, that's right, so thank you, Conference, have a
02:11:40great one. 'Yeah, he tried to get the
02:11:44hall sort of chanting that, I'm not sure that it worked and
02:11:48particularly well, we care and we fight um quite
02:11:51incongruous uh together, but he made a speech
02:11:55bashing Trump uh, bashing Nigel Farage and reform,
02:11:59as you would expect, talking about nasty populism, I
02:12:03think he called it, Trump in America, um, the
02:12:06AFD in Germany, Marine Lepen in France,
02:12:10basically saying this is not who Britain is'. "we are
02:12:13better than that, but
02:12:15you know they've got 71 MPs at the moment, they've got,
02:12:18I think more council seats than ever, but we don't
02:12:22hear that much from them, and there are
02:12:25rumblings that perhaps a better another leader might
02:12:29do better, I have to say I don't think that's going to happen given that there
02:12:32could be early election, and if so, so Ed Davy's experience
02:12:36and government um, would would certainly give him an
02:12:40advantage there, certainly, I mean." " 'last time they joined a
02:12:43coalition um they they came out of it not
02:12:47well and very anti-coalition, they they took the blame
02:12:51for lot of what maybe the tourists should have shared some blame for. i don't think
02:12:55whether they'd be very keen to go into another
02:12:58coalition?
02:13:02well maybe not, but the thing is that if you're not in government you can shout from the
02:13:06sideelines as long as as much as you want, but you can't really change uh
02:13:10things, i think they might attach conditions, they'. very keen on proportional
02:13:13representation, of course they might attach referendum on that,
02:13:17they had the um alternative vote, i think was a condition of
02:13:21going to coalition with the jories, but yes, you're right, they got very badly
02:13:24burnt, um, tuition fees of course, nick kleg had
02:13:28pledged to abolish them and then voted with the tories
02:13:32to triple them, that was - very, very big
02:13:36mistake that they were punished with for a long time, and also um, they
02:13:40did not get credit for any the good things that the coalition. government did for example the raising the
02:13:44personal allowence to PS2 and half thous pounds. that was liberal
02:13:47democrat policy. they got very little credit, the tories
02:13:51hoved up all the credit uh for that. and i think when the deal was
02:13:55originally done, i think it might have been ian duncan smith or was it forget who,
02:13:59but a tory bigwig went back apparently and said to his wife, um, we have
02:14:02just destroyed the liberal democrats and so it proved five years
02:14:06later when they were absolutely
02:14:09decimated uh at that general election and the... leader Nick
02:14:13Klegg lost his seat, so uh once bitten, twice shy, but
02:14:17I suspect that the labor would much prefer a coalition
02:14:20with uh the sensible liberal democrats than the
02:14:24green party under Zack Polansky who they're trying to
02:14:28neutralize with some the moves that Andy Burnham has made since he's
02:14:31been in government. Well, Katherine, don't stay too long out there in the breeze,
02:14:35it does look a bit nippy, but it's nice to see the sea behind you. Thank

02:14:46national task force to tackle misogyny as part of labor's
02:14:50pledge to harve violence against women and girls within a
02:14:54decade. the initiative will focus on tackling harmful attitudes
02:14:58online in schools, workplaces and
02:15:00communities. Scotland's first minister will
02:15:04call on MSPs to unanimously back Scotland's right
02:15:08to decide its own future a vote at Hollywood next.
02:15:12week, John Swinny says support for self-determination is
02:15:16growing and Westminster's opposition to referendum is
02:15:20becoming unsustainable. The move follows a joint
02:15:23declaration by the. leaders of Scotland, Wales and Northern
02:15:27Ireland, calling for greater
02:15:29powers and at Sharon has apologized to
02:15:33fans for making mistakes during his solo show in
02:15:36Philadelphia. He said promoters, not him, decided to remove the
02:15:40rapper McLamore from the tour, but he apologized for how he's handled the
02:15:43controversy. Shiran called the October 7th Hamas led
02:15:47attacks horrific, and also described Israel's treatment of people
02:15:51in Gaza as catastrophic and unjustifiable.

02:17:30to high teens, if not the low 20's across eastern and southeast
02:17:34England. now to finish off the day, we could start to
02:17:38see a bit more clouds start to feed through across areas of Scotland, perhaps still the
02:17:41odd light shower just pushing through into the northern is, but much
02:17:45lighter winds compared to what we saw yesterday afternoon, a little bit of cloud
02:17:49just pushing into northern Ireland, perhaps northern and northwest England, but
02:17:53elsewhere across much
02:17:54of a... England or Wales, there should be clear skies to finish off the day, so some
02:17:58late evening sunshine, and then we start to see a bit of a change
02:18:02overnight, cloud continuing to thicken across Scotland, northern Ireland and
02:18:06northern parts of England, and eventually this will be thick enough to produce some rain through
02:18:10the early hours of Monday, so another quite wet start across Scotland, ports
02:18:13parts of Northern Island, first thing on Monday morning, but actually once again
02:18:17across central, southern England and Wales,

02:19:04from sadly. uh, it's earl spencer. he's accused the king this
02:19:08morning of gaslighting him after suggesting that his memoir is
02:19:12clouded by grief. yes, princess Diana's brother is
02:19:16claiming Charles sounded giddy allated after
02:19:20her death and alleged allegedly said that she would be
02:19:24forgotten so... enough. In response, King Charles's allies have
02:19:28accused El Spencer of cashing in on her
02:19:31death. Well, and when you think about it, we've played that clip throughout the
02:19:35morning, uh, where years ago he said he can't imagine anything worse
02:19:38than cashing in, yeah, and or making profit, profiting
02:19:42from, um, his sister's death, hasn't he just done
02:19:46that? Maybe he's going to give it all to charity and uh, I don't think so,
02:19:49somehow, but um, and he would deny that it's cashing in, he just
02:19:53wants to have his say. "but I bet he isn't going to turn the check down
02:19:57anyway, we're joined by royal writer and photographer Ian Lloyd who's
02:20:01photographed the Royals over many years, what what's your
02:20:04gut feeling about what's happened here, Earl Spencer sort of
02:20:08dredging up all these - true or untrue
02:20:12all these awful things that happened in the past? well, I
02:20:16feel very sorry for the king, because the king is 78 in two months
02:20:20time, he's still having a treatment for cancer and
02:20:23um, he's had..." problem with Andrew and the team case
02:20:27and then Prince Harry and the sussexes
02:20:30and next month he's off to antiga
02:20:34and buda which will probably start the whole thing.
02:20:37about colonialism and reparations, so he's not having easy ride is
02:20:41he? no, so I feel very very disappointed about
02:20:45this, but I was there one on the day that Diana died, I was at
02:20:49REF northol and when her body came back to to
02:20:53Britain and I saw the then Prince Charles,
02:20:55and he certainly wasn't elated like he was he won the
02:20:59lottery, he was very pale and composed and having to be royal and
02:21:02greet the lord lieutenant and greet, I think the prime minister was there, I think Tony Bler, there's
02:21:06a lot of... digitaries and I think you know this is the day his his wife died and he
02:21:10had to fly to um his former wife because he had to fly to Paris and and and
02:21:14bring her back so he he kind of did his duty that day and he
02:21:18wasn't uh behaving like somebody who who had won the
02:21:21lottery no I mean you can't help wonder of course we won't
02:21:24know um because they remember it differently but also I
02:21:28mean giddily elated doesn't sound like the man that
02:21:32we we heard about later in that he fought very
02:21:36hard with the queen. to take the royal flight to go and collect Diana's
02:21:40body and bring it her home um and and he was
02:21:43um he absolutely didn't he
02:21:46it is said that he snapped at the queen you know oh would you prefer that she came back a
02:21:49Harold's van you know it absolutely and and you
02:21:53can maybe shock and the fact that he wasn't very good at
02:21:57expressing himself in those days really and didn't come across as the most
02:22:00sensitive human being maybe that was mistakenly interpreted as giddi
02:22:04elellation by Earl Spencer but I can't imagine ever
02:22:08being elated anyone's death? no,
02:22:12I mean, four years ago, my mom died in my arms and I was the only
02:22:16one there, I was the only relation and and no friends or anything, and
02:22:20I just remember having this afterwards, this surge
02:22:23of elation, which was actually,
02:22:24I think, adrenaline rush
02:22:26that that the body does to protect itself, but for several days I
02:22:30was a bit of a kind of high, obviously I wasn't, I was grieving, but
02:22:34it's how it came out, and I remember having a perfectly normal. conversation with somebody
02:22:38about an hour later, um,
02:22:41you know, grief is very, very weird, it, it,
02:22:43you know, attacks people in different ways, and the prince, prince Charles would be thinking of
02:22:47his sons, what is going to happen, he would also be thinking, oh god, I'm in this terrible
02:22:51situation where I'm going to be billified, because at the
02:22:55time everybody adored Diana and so on, so lot of complex
02:22:59things would be going through his mind, so you could understand if he
02:23:02he sounded a bit peculiar on the phone, if that was the case,
02:23:06you know, so I mean is this case of revenge is
02:23:10dish best served cold
02:23:12in this case of course very very cold so many years
02:23:15after the fact yeah
02:23:18I don't
02:23:19what it is because I mean his last book was about his school days and again he
02:23:22he um he really it's a marvelous read I have to say but he really
02:23:26tore into his his um his
02:23:30school and he's pasted in that way and other people apparently
02:23:34said in I remember reading in the paper other people had different views.
02:23:38um he's obviously bringing back the past and and as you say it's completely ironic
02:23:42because um the Spencers and Prince William issued
02:23:46statements when Paul Burel and Diana's protection officer
02:23:50Ken warf and then Patrick Jefferson the private secretary they all wrote
02:23:53books and and the family was was was horrified about
02:23:57trading in on her memory and he he seems to have done that done that I don't think
02:24:01Diana would be um what's what did he say jumping from the rafters
02:24:04what's the expression um yeah, because she
02:24:08um, she one of her things was to protect the
02:24:11monarchy for for williams, so I think she would want the the monarchy to
02:24:15stay strong, and I think this would be uh, I think she'd be quite
02:24:19horrified to be honest, absolutely, cuz you can't help thinking, what's his objective, does he
02:24:23want to bring the monarchy down? well, that's
02:24:27it, I mean it's um, or is it just to sell books? I
02:24:31mean, it's it's um, it's it's it's amazing, because it's
02:24:35from the it's from inside that gold. golden circle if you like, the
02:24:39trusted circle, mean nobody would have expected, the timing's very interesting, because
02:24:43had he done it 20, 10 years ago, 20, 20th anniversary,
02:24:47the queen would have been head of state, had he done it in 10 more years at the
02:24:5040th anniversary, king charles might not possibly be
02:24:54around, so um, you know, it's it wouldn't have had the impact, but
02:24:58this this has definitely got a lot of impact because because Charles is head of
02:25:02state, yeah, okay, well thanks very
02:25:05much for being us. your insight and as you say you were there on
02:25:09the day uh that Charles accompanied Diana's
02:25:13body back to the UK and I think we also on
02:25:17camera just the shock and and grief that was etched on
02:25:21his face okay and thanks very much indeed
02:25:25yeah no we'll leave it there in fact I could talk to you for us because I know one of your
02:25:29specialisms was following uh the queen mother as well who was fascinating

02:29:01now, Texas is apparently slamming the breaks on what critics
02:29:04fear could become an American surveillance state.
02:29:08Well, at the center the route are flock
02:29:12cameras. Never heard them? Well, apparently they can track
02:29:16pretty much every car that passes and then store the details in
02:29:20searchable database. Ben Leo has this
02:29:23report. Any guesses what one the biggest issues dividing America right
02:29:27now is immigration, groceries, inflation, maybe the war in
02:29:31Iran. No, one the biggest issues is
02:29:34car cameras, vehicle cameras on the road, like this one, called
02:29:38flock cameras. They are a little bit bigger than your typical ring doorbell in the
02:29:42UK. And the controversy is that one side the argument says,
02:29:46oh, they're great for keeping us safe, they can track criminals, they share data with...
02:29:50these forces, the other side is more on civil liberties, it's an
02:29:54invasion of privacy, it breaches they argue constitutional rights,
02:29:58and why should motorists have their data stored, their pictures, their
02:30:02number plates, even dents in their car be stored at the hands of
02:30:06private corporations. i spoke to dylan oliver, the deputy director of
02:30:09marketing at the alliance of secure AI to understand the
02:30:13arguments against flock cameras. so they're scanning every identifiable
02:30:17feature these vehicles that they possibly can find. bumps, scratches
02:30:21and dents. Floch Safety is a private company, they
02:30:24are operating on numerous uh government contracts all across the
02:30:28United States, so what we're looking at right now is 120,00
02:30:32these spread out across hundreds of municipalities across the US, and
02:30:36just in August alone, 90 municipalities canceled their contract with
02:30:40Flock Safety because they have so many concerns about our constitutional rights and there's
02:30:44also been many cases of misuse with these as well. These are
02:30:48scanning about 20 billion entries. a month, they have about a 7%
02:30:52error rate along with that as well, so we're looking at about 1.4 billion these
02:30:55entries that are being scanned as we speak right now, are actually false,
02:30:59they're they're saying that something bad has happened, maybe it's a... stolen vehicle, for
02:31:03example, in Los Angeles, one and three stolen vehicle
02:31:06alerts that these cameras made right here were false, and that's a
02:31:10waste of police officers time, so what we're looking at is people are getting pulled
02:31:14over, people are being held at gunpoint for crimes they're not actually committing. there was a
02:31:18grandmother from Tennessee who was put in jail in North Dakota. It was a state she'd
02:31:22never visited in her entire life, but because the high-powered AI technology that
02:31:26we're seeing here with these cameras, it was able to identify her face, or
02:31:30so it thought, and it put her in jail in North Dakota. place she'd never been in her life, she had
02:31:34to be in jail for four months while the trial was being
02:31:36processed. this is what President
02:31:40Trump thinks of flot cameras, sort of like them because of that,
02:31:44because of law enforcement, but some people don't, they think it's an
02:31:47infringement, they help catch lot of
02:31:50criminals, so that was the president, but I wanted to find out
02:31:54what real Americans think, they are um
02:31:57privately owned, being used by private companies, but also
02:32:01a government. and also being misused by governments,
02:32:05so I think that's the fear, right? people can see who is in
02:32:09your car and where you're going and at what time? um, and
02:32:13there's just a complete lack of privacy. uh, well yeah, it's not much different than a cell phone
02:32:17in your pocket, but guess these ones are worse cuz they can track you better,
02:32:20but i don't think they're going to get through at the moment because uh, it's a private
02:32:24company, so politicians will be affected by him too,
02:32:28so that's the only reason why there's any pushback at the moment that's working, the concern
02:32:32is... privacy, the more and more that we give anyone
02:32:35access to things that we don't have control over, then we
02:32:39lose our privacy, and we lose control
02:32:41of who we are and what people do with that information. flock safety told us a
02:32:45statement that the claimed LPR technology collects sensitive
02:32:49information such as names or addresses, was simply not
02:32:52true. a statement they said our LPR system does not have
02:32:56access to those types of personal identifiers. in fact, the cameras only see
02:33:00vehicle license plates and vehicle... characteristics, all things that are
02:33:04public information in the plane view, they added, this ensures
02:33:08that privacy protections are deeply embedded in how our systems
02:33:11function, it's another one
02:33:15of those technologicological things that will be good one day when they get it
02:33:18right, well mean the thing is we're we're we're ahead
02:33:21them, yeah we're the
02:33:25most one the world's most surveiled states, there's no doubt about it,
02:33:29we've got ANPR cameras, automatic number plate re. ignition
02:33:32cameras uh throughout sort of main centers of
02:33:36population and main uh roots, you've got the cameras, it makes
02:33:40anyone feeling you say for that, well no, but they're great revenue
02:33:43raisers aren't they, if youuh happen to take a a right

02:52:31expensive things to own and run even yeah even without going into a box

03:05:09lots of bills, actually, how else is he going to raise the money? he wants his
03:05:13mandate to raise taxes. well, this of course comes -
03:05:17is expected, we're told to spend 19 billion more
03:05:21each year on disability benefits by the end of
03:05:25this decade. now after Andy Buurnam apparently
03:05:29refused to tackle the balloon welfare bill, we're told in the
03:05:32upcoming budget. well, the critic, the conservatives,
03:05:36sorry, have been uh keen to criticize his failure to act, they're
03:05:40accusing labor once again of putting social security over national
03:05:43security. well, is it all part of a grander?
03:05:47plan to take us into a general election. Let's cross to
03:05:51Catherine Forster, GB News's chief political correspondent who's on the
03:05:55beaches of Brighton because that's where the Lib D conference is
03:05:58underway. Morning Catherine, I mean,
03:06:00are they talking about um the likelihood of a snap
03:06:04general election at all in conference
03:06:06today?
03:06:09Well, behind the scenes conversations are being had. Davey
03:06:13said to broadcasters yesterday that they...
03:06:17uh will be ready basically for this general election whenever it
03:06:21comes, they believe that they are in good shape with their 71
03:06:25um MPs, although I have to say they are languishing in the polls at just 10 or
03:06:2911 uh percent, they have gone down in the polls, though they would say
03:06:33look we've got more counselors uh than ever before and they tend to be very
03:06:37efficient um in targeting their seats
03:06:40and getting lot of bang for their but if you like uh
03:06:44with their votes, but this speculate... about a
03:06:48general election, well yes, I mean it could happen.
03:06:52Andy Burnham had a sort of brief honeymoon period over the
03:06:55summer, um, labor have had a bit of a burn and bounce as they call it
03:06:59in the polls, uh, but I'm not sure that it would be enough to call a general
03:07:03election, because depending on the poll, you look at, they're either neck-an- neeck with reform
03:07:07or just few points above, I would have thought that to be sure of getting
03:07:11a majority, they need to be above 30% and at least sort of
03:07:15seven or eight points clear of reform. for a consistent
03:07:18period which they have not had, but it's also true
03:07:22that things are probably only going going to get uh more
03:07:26difficult uh the economic picture is worse. the
03:07:30chancellor's headroom that the city uh really
03:07:34needs that reassurance that there is seems to be uh
03:07:38going up in smoke and there are very difficult
03:07:41decisions looming now they seem to have pushed those about
03:07:45defense spending those about cutting the welfare budget
03:07:48potentially to next year um but if they had an
03:07:52election in May which seems to be favored month and some
03:07:56of those decisions by then surely will have had to be taken. because there's going to
03:08:00be the spring spending review, we're expecting energy bills to
03:08:04go up about 500 pounds because the war in Iran at the beginning of
03:08:08next year, so it doesn't look like there's going to
03:08:11be a good time for Andy Burnham to call a
03:08:15general election, but it could be that to go sooner
03:08:19rather than later might be the least bad option,
03:08:23even though it could risk them losing their majority and
03:08:26potentially having to do a deal with... the lib dems,
03:08:30let's have a quick look at what Sir davy said here

03:08:37party faithful. so conference, so

03:10:04to go up by 19 billion by the end of 2030, i said to miss
03:10:08Philipson, there is deceat at the heart of this labor government that, and
03:10:12that is that you're cutting benefits at all, you're not cutting benefits, you
03:10:16might be trying to cut a cut, and i'm also going to be speaking to Richard Fuller,
03:10:20Fuller, who is now the shadow chief secretary to the treasury, now
03:10:23interestingly he did work on Liz Trust's mini budget, so we'll ask him about
03:10:27that, but the tories are pledging to cut 20. 3 billion from
03:10:31welfare, reformer pledging to cut 50 billion,
03:10:35are either them even going to touch the sides when just
03:10:39pip alone is going up by almost the amount
03:10:42that the tories want to cut, so it comes back to this whole pat
03:10:45mcfadden conceit, remember when he was in the
03:10:49Mandelson files saying, all we're doing is taxing people more to pay people out of
03:10:53work benefits, i've forgotten about that as well, mean
03:10:56Mandelson, talk of Mandleson seems like years ago,
03:11:00ready uh, there's you, everything's moving a pace. is there
03:11:03any hint at all from any of your guests as
03:11:07to um early general election? well, did ask Miss Philipson

03:12:44thinking of Remembrance Day and they are calling for
03:12:47volunteers in North Yorkshire, so if you live up there have listen uh, because
03:12:51they need people to help run this year's Poppy appeal. Yeah, more than
03:12:5460,000 volunteers give their time to the annual
03:12:58campaign during the remembrance period. The charity
03:13:01is also asking locals to spare some time to support
03:13:05veterans, serving personnel and their families. Well, GB

03:14:02service in Cyprus, un army veteran Barry Blood
03:14:06is proud to have served his country, during his time in
03:14:10the forces Barry experience. the trauma of
03:14:13conflict, he joined the RBL 30 years ago and has sold
03:14:17puppies ever since. I ended up spending two years all
03:14:21together in Northern Ireland. On the first tour there we lost
03:14:25two soldiers killed and one wounded on the first patrol we did
03:14:29and I think about that all the time. The British army in the tours
03:14:33for the 30 years lost 1441
03:14:36people, but it was a traumatic time for the soldiers and it was
03:14:40for the wives as well. The wives. offered just as much
03:14:44as we did. The fundraiser is vital part
03:14:48of remembrance and supports serving personal, veterans and
03:14:51their families. We all like to try to remember
03:14:55what's gone in the past, and our senataff here as got lots of names
03:14:59on from Iraq and Afghanistan and
03:15:03northern Ireland and so on. Every year around

03:22:02so it's still when it comes to this particular issue and ed
03:22:06Sheeron, I think it's a conversation that's going to rumble on, but for Ed
03:22:09Sheeren himself, he's described it as the worst week of his
03:22:13life, and it led him to contemplate even stopping
03:22:17performing, so I think the fact that he has continued to talk at
03:22:21least shows that he's not uh bowing down too much.
