00:08:23poverty. Some the hardest working people I know are
00:08:27people that are in law paid jobs, they work incredibly hard, they do the right thing, they
00:08:31don't earn huge amounts of money, and they deserve support to, and to that point about
00:08:35child poverty, one the biggest indicators is to whether you will
00:08:39go to live a good life where you can contribute as whether you grow up in poverty. Therefore tackling
00:08:43child poverty, lifting children out of poverty is absolutely the right

00:09:51United co-owner sir Jim Ratcliff for claiming the UK is
00:09:55on the slide because of high taxes and migration.
00:09:59Brigit Philipson told GB News she rejects his
00:10:01criticism. I'm not sure I want to be hearing too much from someone who's
00:10:05attax exileus to what they think is to the direction of our company working people, people
00:10:09who work hard expect to see rewards for that contribution. It's why'.
00:10:13"they will have seen in in recent months with the new prime minister Andy Burnam a real
00:10:17focus on giving people more breathing space around VAT on electricity
00:10:20bills around bus fairs around business rates cuts for hospitality which is
00:10:24incredible" the important part of our economy, I think that shows the
00:10:27direction that this government wishes to go in, to recognize the contribution that people
00:10:31make and to make sure that they are awarded for doing so, not really
00:10:35working though, is it? I mean, 71% of big businesses, and that's people that employ more than
00:10:3910 people, are deeply unhappy with the way things are going, especially with the
00:10:43energy situation in this country, which is one the other things that sir
00:10:47Jim Ratcliff picks up on. Now, it does come also
00:10:51top of Manchester United Muslim supporters club.
00:10:55who are calling for sir Jim to go following his claim that Britain has
00:10:58been colonized by immigrants, now these were comments um Sir Jim said
00:11:03few months ago now, but he has doubled down on them
00:11:07um once again by saying that migration
00:11:10is a problem in this country, which I think many of you watching and listening
00:11:14today wouldn't have an argument with, but Manchester United Muslim supporters
00:11:18club say that Jim Ratcliff must go after he spoke out once
00:11:22again about the immigration situation. Uh, joining me now is
00:11:26political commentator Jesse to dive down
00:11:29into this
00:11:30uh, Jess, good to see you, thank you so much for joining me. Um, obviously, you know, so
00:11:34Jim Ratcliff is to no controversy
00:11:37stranger here, he's said similar comments before, but this is very wide ranging
00:11:41interview he has given saying that the UK is on the
00:11:45slide, and he left the UK back in 2020 saying it was on the slide
00:11:49then, it's slid even further according to him, and he's not going to come back
00:11:53until things start improving. is he right? Jess, is he right to say these
00:11:57things? well, I, I think totally, Dawn, I think
00:12:00he's identifying a frustration that lots of
00:12:04working people recognize, you know, can working
00:12:08hard actually get you much places these days, can
00:12:12working hard get you house, can working hard get you financial
00:12:15stability, can working hard give you that security that you need
00:12:19to start a family, well more and more of people
00:12:22are uh, there's decining birth rates more and... people are just choosing not to
00:12:26start families because it's just so expensive nowadays. look,
00:12:30these shouldn't be extravagant ambitions, but they are,
00:12:34and I am less interested in comparing Britain with its
00:12:38past and comparing what future it could offer young
00:12:41people, and if we want this country to
00:12:44succeed, I think we should be listening to the comments of Sir Jim
00:12:48Rackliff, who is influential
00:12:52businessman and has done wonderful things. 'um
00:12:55you know he's raised so much money, he you know
00:12:59these people that they have freedom of speech and they should be allowed to
00:13:02you know say he should go, but just because you own a football
00:13:06club does not mean you don't need to say whatever you want to say, he should be able to say
00:13:10whatever he want, mean he's he's said to be worth 17
00:13:14billion and he has as i say criticized the government quite
00:13:17extensively um
00:13:19and you know he started his petrochemical firm ios literally from
00:13:23scratch so he knows about run business, employing
00:13:26people, driving growth for the economy, which is
00:13:29surely what the country needs, just, I mean, more than
00:13:3316,000 millionaires left the UK last year, the highest
00:13:37exes ever reported according to report
00:13:41here, now those on the left and those for the labor party,
00:13:45well good ridence,
00:13:46but the thing is just it's not good ridence bause it's these high earners, it's these
00:13:50millionaires that pay the most tax,
00:13:54well quite... Right, and I think when someone who's built a
00:13:57major industrial business is saying that Britain has
00:14:01become less attractive to invest in, less
00:14:05attractive for those highest tax payers to reside in,
00:14:08we should be listening. You don't have to agree with every word that
00:14:12he's saying, but demanding he goes, doesn't answer his
00:14:16concerns about immigration, which I'm sure many viewers would agree
00:14:20with, myself, included, his concerned about energy
00:14:23costs, and should be challenging his arguments, not saying oh,
00:14:27you
00:14:27need to go from your position at Manchester United football club, it's ridiculous. yeah, well,
00:14:31this is the Manchester United Muslim supporters group, and and they
00:14:34say that um, his comments once again
00:14:38has placed immigration and people receiving benefits at the
00:14:42center of his explanation for Britain's problems,
00:14:46arguing that, nobody in this country is tough enough to deal
00:14:49with either. they say they find the latest comments deeply disappointing and
00:14:53completely un' acceptable, they say Man United in particular has
00:14:57been built on diversity with
00:15:01players, supporters and stuff coming from different countries, cultures and
00:15:04ethnic, now they they they've written quite a strong letter just saying that
00:15:08he needs to go cuz is once again demonizing those on
00:15:12benefits and migrants, but as you say jeess an awful
00:15:16lot of people in this country would agree with those sentiments,
00:15:20well dawn, he literally started from nothing,
00:15:24his Industrial business is
00:15:27fantastic attribute to what this
00:15:30country used to be, it used to be a country that businesses could
00:15:33build, and
00:15:35I support lower immigration and
00:15:36I support country that rewards enterprise and owning football
00:15:40club, that doesn't mean you should stop expressing those views, it's
00:15:43obseine. fans, sure, criticize him, freedom of speech,
00:15:47I'm all for it, but saying oh, he's got to go,
00:15:50you know, his departure needs to happen, no, that's
00:15:52disproportionate, you should not need to have everyone's approval
00:15:56to have an opinion, again, yes, I mean, just quickly and finally, we
00:16:00keep,
00:16:01we we're talking about it and all week and the the free speech issue around
00:16:05that, this is another element of free speech. "he has an
00:16:08opinion, I don't think he said anything particularly racist or offensive
00:16:12personally, but yet once again he should be canceled for
00:16:16daring to have an opinion, well the tolerant left
00:16:19right, indeed, I think that somes are rather
00:16:23well, and that's political commentator Jesser, thank you so much for joining us,

00:16:31Britain sliding into decline, um, is it and
00:16:35would a general election solve? the problem: well, the prime
00:16:39minister is, according to today's reports, plotting early
00:16:42election, labor sources claim Andy Burnham wants to call a
00:16:46snap election within the next year to seek a fresh mandate
00:16:50to, you know this is coming, raise taxes. uh, chancellor
00:16:54John Healey is reportedly considering series of tax rises ahead of next month's
00:16:58budget as a treasury looks to raise an extra 10 to 15 billion pounds
00:17:02for that black hole that somehow mysteriously has been
00:17:04created. um, so let's... and now to political
00:17:08commentator Benedict Spence about this situation. Uh, Benedict, good to see
00:17:12you. Thank you so much for joining me. Now, the bottom line is, I think everyone admits
00:17:16it that we're skin. We have black holes all over the place.
00:17:19Uh, money needs to come from somewhere, we can't borrow anymore up to our
00:17:23balls in debt. The simplest way to raise income to raise
00:17:27money is with income tax, but Andy Burnham can't
00:17:31do that, because the labor manifesto said they wouldn't touch
00:17:34that. So, is he going to have to call an election?
00:17:38Well, I mean, the simplest way is not necessarily to raise income tax
00:17:42given the current state of productivity in this country might in fact lead to a
00:17:46shortfall in productivity. I mean, we've already got this sort of weird situation where people
00:17:50who head towards 100 thousand pounds income once they head over that cliff
00:17:54end up losing their marginal tax rates, at which point it becomes um
00:17:57inadvantageous actually to work any harder until they reach a certain higher threshhold
00:18:01even beyond that, so um, it's one of those things where you
00:18:05know, as you say, the major issue is... of course the previous
00:18:08manifesto pledge and Bernam has sort of been dithering around this saying, well,
00:18:12is
00:18:12it uh, is this change, is this continuity? I think he was hoping that saying
00:18:16continuity would mean that he wouldn't have to go to the country early, but
00:18:20actually, you know, as you say, we all know the pretty
00:18:24powerless state the finances in this country, we all
00:18:28know really that Burnham and John Healey don't have much of clue
00:18:32of how to solve it, and we also all know that in very
00:18:36short space of time the... popularity is going to start going the same way as
00:18:40Kier Starmer's because we will become very aware that there is no
00:18:43plan and that things are getting worse and ultimately because also things keep on happening
00:18:47around the world that impact Britain disproportionately, wars,
00:18:51global affairs, that sort of thing do tend to have an impact on the public finances, that's why
00:18:55all the headroom was wiped out and they don't have anything to play with anymore,
00:18:58so does he need this mandate in order to turn around and say I'm going to
00:19:02raise income taxes? well, you'd have thought so, but it's
00:19:06not going to be a... thing to run on, and this is the tricky thing
00:19:09that I think Bernham had, when he came in, he did have that bounce, wasn't much of bounce,
00:19:13but it was there, and
00:19:15there was a very short window, I think in which he could have called a general
00:19:18election, in order to go on the grounds of saying I'm
00:19:21a new prime minister and I don't want it to be, that I only have
00:19:25the backing the labour party, I want to put it to you, the people, in
00:19:29that set of circumstances, I think he would have had half a chance with calling early
00:19:32general election, now if he's having to do it to give himself a mandate to
00:19:36say, oh please, please let me put your taxes up, I'll be ever so good about
00:19:40it. I don't think that the people of this country, given that they are already suffering from
00:19:44the highest tax burden in the post war period are going to take too
00:19:48kindly to that as an idea, so if he wants to call the earlier general election on that
00:19:52basis, I can see why he would feel that he might have to, but it's not going to go well
00:19:56for him. No, it's it's hardly a good selling point isn't it, vote for me, I'll raise your
00:19:59taxes. Um, the other option which Chance John Healey is supposed
00:20:03to be considering are those soak the rich taxes.
00:20:08'um you know sort of like capital gains tax, corporation tax, woonful taxes
00:20:11etc etc. and sort of like punishing rich people for leaving the
00:20:15country and exit tax etc. now all of that has been suggested,
00:20:19but it goes back to what we were talking about sir Jim Ratcliff,
00:20:22benedict, I mean his saying we're on decline, and it is true
00:20:26that the very rich and the investors and the people that do
00:20:30grow economies are leaving our country, so income tax
00:20:34really is the only way that they've got left to go." "I
00:20:38mean, on the subject of Jim RatCliff, I don't think it's kind of ironic that he's somebody who sort of
00:20:42stood sat around saying, well, we're spending far too much money, there's far too many foreign people
00:20:46coming into the country and nothing seems to work, given that that is in fact the business model of..."
00:20:50manchester United, I would have thought that he would have seen slightly the irony there, the
00:20:54whole thing about not investing in the future, letting the roof collapse, buying a lot
00:20:58of foreigners because they'll do the job for lot of money, let them take the money, they're not actually very
00:21:01good, oh and everything just slowly slowly gets worse, but
00:21:04you know the thing is with raising these,
00:21:08these so called sort of wealth taxes, things like the mansion tax which has been
00:21:11proposed, they appeal to people who are already going to
00:21:15vote labor, they appeal to a certain set of people who do feel that there is
00:21:19more money. be squeezed out of this country somehow, it's not going
00:21:23to appeal to lot of those swing voters, lot of people who actually put labor in power, many of whom
00:21:27previously would have voted conservative, but might be inclined also to vote lib
00:21:31dem. it's not going to appeal particularly to those people who already feel that kind of burden,
00:21:34and as you say Dawn, and awful lot of people who they'd like to target with those kind of taxes,
00:21:38well they've already left the country, but I mean also the mansion tax in
00:21:42particular is one thing that has been talked up a bit quite quite a
00:21:46little in the last couple of of days talking about what...
00:21:50threshhold, it's going to be at what point you'd implement it, would it be
00:21:531.5 million in value of your property, would it be more? that's
00:21:57a really tricky thing actually to enact when it's based on
00:22:01something that you can't know for certain, the housing market
00:22:05determines the value of a property. how can it be that a government can sit there and
00:22:09tell somebody, oh your house is worth x if you can't sell it for that
00:22:12price on
00:22:13the open market, and i think
00:22:14that that's going to be as as much as you, do think it would go down very well with
00:22:18people who don't think
00:22:19these things. in practice, these policies just fall flat in their face,
00:22:23at which point then again, the holes appear in the budget, they're scrambling around
00:22:27looking for more money cuz these policies haven't raised enough money, they've collapsed what's left the
00:22:31housing market as part of that process and then the popularity starts to
00:22:35go down even more, and and we do know that Andy Burnham likes being popular, that
00:22:39hence all the TikTok videos, uh, Benedict, uh, voice of common sense, as always, that's
00:22:43political commentator expense for you,

00:26:40coverage, it has to be said, it is day two the lib dem
00:26:44conference and so Ed Dave is taking aim at reform and Elon
00:26:48Musk, as is his want, he always does that, the party is gearing up
00:26:52for a fight as Britain's political battle lines are
00:26:55redrawn, but if early election which we've just been talking
00:26:59about came calling, how would the leb dems do...
00:27:02to GB News Chief Political Correspondent Catherine Foster is in
00:27:06Brighton for us. Katherine, how's it

00:27:12Good afternoon from a sunny Brighton where the Libdems
00:27:16are on their second day their conference. They're talking about
00:27:20the economy. Sir Ed Davey is wanting
00:27:23a 12p uh fuel duty
00:27:27cut at the pumps. He thinks that will help people with the cost of living. He
00:27:31wants that uh and till at least Christmas
00:27:34and the party faithful are all here of
00:27:37course, but are they cutting through more
00:27:41broadly with the public? well, I'm joined now by the Liberal
00:27:45Democrat MP for Chitchester, Jess
00:27:49Brown Fuller who is also the justice spokesperson. thank you so much for joining
00:27:53us on GB News. first of all, just run
00:27:56us through these cost of living uh measures that the libdems are
00:28:00talking about today, and also your... Treasury spokesperson Daisy
00:28:04Cooper has been speaking about Libdem plans for the economy. Yeah, so
00:28:08we need to address the cost of living crisis right now. It's getting more and more hard for
00:28:12families to be able to get to the end the month. There is something the government can do
00:28:16right away. They are having an extra two billion in revenue coming into the
00:28:20treasury via the pumps at the moment, because the increased
00:28:23costs. They could take fuel duty off by 10 p,
00:28:27which would save average about six pound for a tank of petrol that will make a big
00:28:31difference. for people filling up so that they can get to work and take their
00:28:35children places, but also Daisy Cooper's had her big keynote
00:28:39speech today where she's been talking about all the things that we need to do for
00:28:42businesses, because businesses are really struggling, labor is additional jobs,
00:28:46tax, national insurance increases, energy
00:28:50increases means that they are really struggling
00:28:53to grow in the way that they want to, and so Daisy has proposed a
00:28:57whole host of measures uh to cut the red tape around running
00:29:01business to make it... easier for them to actually grow, you're
00:29:05announcing all these policies, but it's quite difficult, isn't it for the liberal
00:29:08democrats to get hearing, uh, more in common, have done a word
00:29:12cloud of what people associate with the liberal democrats and
00:29:16the biggest answer was, don't know, followed by not sure,
00:29:20weak, boring or irrelevant, that's a problem for you, isn't it?
00:29:24well, what I would say to that is that we are also the
00:29:27most popular party for our opposition members, so the majority
00:29:31of people that... vote liberal democrats would consider voting liberal
00:29:35democrats, that's not the case for most other parties, so we have huge
00:29:39potential in in the country to grow our supporter
00:29:43base, and that's why we're here talking to organizations like GB News, we're
00:29:47not afraid to get out there and talk about the things that we believe in, such
00:29:51as growing the economy, cutting taxes for working people, and
00:29:55making life easier on on everybody in the
00:29:58UK. you've got 71 MPs, but people
00:30:02a Nigel Farasion Reform or Zak Polanski seem to
00:30:06get um the headlines and and the polling would
00:30:09suggest that you guys have gone backwards, in fact there's a poll out today that has you on
00:30:13just 8%. How do you get
00:30:17heard in this very noisy five-party political
00:30:21environment when people get their social media uh
00:30:24you know news off social media these little soundb? I would argue
00:30:28that the only poll that counts is polling day and over the last
00:30:31eight is every ling every single local council election the Liberal
00:30:35Democrats have made gains and since the general election we've won more
00:30:39council by-elections than any the other parties that includes
00:30:43reform, so we are successful at the ballot box and in
00:30:462024 a day we returned the most successful result for
00:30:50the Liberal Democrats and if you have a Liberal Democrat MP you know about it
00:30:54because they're in their community working hard and talking about the issues that matter to
00:30:58those people uh so I I don't agree that we're falling backwards we
00:31:02are. ambitious about the next general election and I think that we will
00:31:05return games. Well, the gen next general election might come uh
00:31:09sooner than 2029, uh, some suggestions that Andy Burnham
00:31:13might decide uh that... sooner or than later is the best policy, he could
00:31:17lose his majority. you might be looking a situation that
00:31:21Andy Burnham comes and asks for a coalition with the Liberal Democrats. I'm
00:31:25very clear, and I know that my party is very clear that we
00:31:29need to prevent Nigel Farage getting the keys to number 10, because I do not
00:31:33want to see Trump's America become farage's
00:31:36Britain, and so we are focused before that general election on getting as many
00:31:40liberal Democrats elected as possible, be it in local councils or in
00:31:44parliament. the next general election, that's where our focus should be, rather than
00:31:48talking about different scenarios about what could happen after a general
00:31:52election, we should focus on getting the job done now, cutting taxes for
00:31:55people now, making it more affordable for people now and
00:31:59getting lots of liberal democrats elected, and just finally Andy Burnham
00:32:03talks like normal person, people seem to like him, but he's got all the same difficult
00:32:07decisions, uh, they don't seem very keen to cut things like
00:32:11welfare or find money for defense,
00:32:15"do you worry at all that he is people pleaser and
00:32:19that he wants to do things that we simply can't afford? yeah, he doesn't like saying no to
00:32:23people, and he's shown that very quickly in parliament, he says all the right things, he
00:32:27says, "i really agree with you, that's really hard, but we're not actually seeing the
00:32:30tangible proof in the pudding, there's something he can do, we're happy for him to take
00:32:34our idea, spend two billion that he's got additional revenue in the
00:32:38treasury and take off fuel duty right now and save
00:32:42people money at the pumps, we're happy to gift him" that idea, the
00:32:46Liberal Democrats have lots of ideas to bring down the cost of living, but he's going to
00:32:50need to start proving that he's not just vibes politician, he's actually got the

00:33:38the libdem is going to do about Piddington because they don't seem to be doing much at the
00:33:41moment, well the libdem MP for. Washington has

00:33:47said that uh, it's not appropriate to house people on that military base, but I will
00:33:51have sit downown interview with Sred Davy, tomorrow, but I will certainly be
00:33:54raising the issue of Piddington with him, but
00:33:57it is interesting isn't it of course, because the Libdemp feels that
00:34:01it is not right, the right fit uh for the village uh, and
00:34:05they agree with Reform on that, they agree with the conservatives on
00:34:09that, although they are very, very anti uh the
00:34:13rhetoric and the language and... messaging coming out of reform

00:42:19encouragement of venue owner Robert
00:42:22Craft. Robert Craft is billionaire, ally of Israel, he said,
00:42:26if you're going to have
00:42:27this guy open for you, he's not doing it in my stadium, and as
00:42:30result Macalmore was dismissed, so Ed Sheiren's famously a
00:42:34political, and all of sudden he's found himself in the center of this entire
00:42:38political debate, which he did not want to... in, but last night, as you
00:42:41say, he had to address it, I feel, if he had gone on
00:42:45stage and just started singing with his
00:42:48guitar, I i want to say it wouldn't have placated the
00:42:52mob, but I mean there is no placating the mob at this point, but I think it
00:42:55it was as good as damage control as he could have done, he is getting a bit of
00:42:59stick for quote unquote you
00:43:02know going falling into their hands and
00:43:05capitulating to the mob, but I don't really think that's the case, he's
00:43:10had to say something, he addressed both sides the argument again, he
00:43:13described what happened in Israel on October 7th
00:43:17as you know awful, he also described what's been going on in
00:43:21Gaza as likewise just
00:43:24heartbreaking and he's struggled to come to turns with
00:43:27both, but luckily there was a few, it's been described
00:43:31as small but loud pro- palestine activists outside the
00:43:35venue, not much of it seaked inside, he seemed to get on without
00:43:39a hit. inside the stadium, sadly he had to remove one
00:43:43the stages because he was so afraid of what the reception he would
00:43:47receive be, he he said on stage, he didn't people were going to be throwing things at
00:43:51him, he was scared for his own safety, but his big message and the
00:43:54reason why he carried on doing this tour is because, mean quote and quote, it's
00:43:58a bit sappy, because he wants to create an environment for love
00:44:02and people from all backgrounds to come together to his shows and get
00:44:06away from the politics and
00:44:09you know he was tearful. 'I fully bought it, I think it genuinely he's
00:44:12described the past week as the worst week of his life, I can't
00:44:16imagine it's been anything less, no, I can imagine, the the
00:44:20thing is with this, Alex, how much the
00:44:23outrage that the outporing of anger and hatred and
00:44:27some the stuff you're seeing on social media is performative, I
00:44:31mean edgeron fans are going to be edgeron fans no matter what I
00:44:34suspect, so how many the people that are getting so outraged about
00:44:38this are actually?' even know what they're talking about lot the time, mean
00:44:42i remember doing an interview and asking someone what from the river to the seamen and
00:44:46they were shouting free gas or free palastine, they didn't even know what that meant,
00:44:50but mean so how much of
00:44:51it is just like jumping on that bandwagon where free gaza is
00:44:55literally everything at the moment? i would
00:44:58guess quite a bit of it to be honest with you, it's incredibly sad, the sad
00:45:02thing is is that you got people like polona faith and musicians
00:45:06who have been actively pro-palestinian are coming out. and saying
00:45:10ridiculous things for the cause, but also saying that edgeren is a very nice
00:45:14guy, and it's like, okay, so you know that this guy isn't
00:45:18this zionist, awful human
00:45:21being, yet you do still feel the needs to put the cause,
00:45:25quote and quote above what you actually know as fact,
00:45:29you know, I think one the big problems, I mean it, it needs a much longer
00:45:32conversation, but one the big problems with free palestiners are
00:45:36quotes, is it encompasses all angles, there are people out?
00:45:40there who believe that Israel and every all of its population should be wiped from the
00:45:44face the earth, there are more moderates out there who believe that
00:45:47you know two-state solution is the way forward and through the vague
00:45:51term of free palestine they both fall under
00:45:53the same branch and that's why
00:45:55i feel it's become so so toxic in the sense where anybody
00:45:59who's rational can say you know those two
00:46:02words can mean a wide breathth of things to get somebody
00:46:06like
00:46:06get shirin and political to go on stage and say that als caught that
00:46:10cause requires lot more depth to actually know what he's actually talking
00:46:14about, whereas people like Makelmore and the more performative
00:46:18artists will say it willilly nilly cuz it appeases the masses. well

00:52:05of of uh good goodwill among Man United fans, I think it's fair to say, then there were the
00:52:09conf the the comments last February about
00:52:13immigration saying that uh, the country was on the slide, and then there
00:52:16was the there was the apology from the from the club, they said that we are inclusive
00:52:20organization, and then he kind of repeated those allegations, or not allegations, those
00:52:24comments say yesterday, let's hear what he had to say, at the moment
00:52:28I think the UK is on the slide, it's quite difficult to see
00:52:32how we arrested, but I think... ultimately we
00:52:36need politicians, two two things: we need politicians
00:52:39who are tough enough to deal with some very difficult problems, and we know what the
00:52:43problems are, and we need politicians who will make decisions which are
00:52:47good for the country, not good for themselves and their
00:52:50party. if the the Muslim fans
00:52:54group at United has said that after those initial comments
00:52:58uh he apologized for his choice of language, we hoped that
00:53:02a lesson had been learned, clearly it has not, we find his... his comments deeply

00:55:14continues to build across the southwest meaning it should be quite a fine end to
00:55:18the day, plenty of clear skies, so eventually across the north we'll start to see more
00:55:22cloud push through towards the northwest and eventually through the early hours the
00:55:26morning we'll see rain progress through here, eventually into northern island, parts
00:55:30of Scotland and northwest England. to the south of this though, plenty of
00:55:34clear skies, turning a bit chillier here, rural areas under the clearest
00:55:37skies could drop down to around 2 to 4°grees celsius, so quite a chilly
00:55:41start by the time we reach Monday morning for some, but
00:55:45it is eventually going to start to turn a bit warmer, a bit muggier, particularly across the
00:55:48north where we'll see some clouds, some rain, this could turn quite persistent across the
00:55:52hills of Scotland, also quite cloudy and damp start across northern
00:55:56ireland, northern England we'll see some patchy cloud and possibly some
00:56:00light outbacks of rain towards the far northwest, elsewhere across England and
00:56:04Wales the... it should be quite a bright start to
00:56:06the day,
00:56:06a little bit chilly, some patchy fog in places, though this should soon clear
00:56:10through the course the morning and remaining quite dry and settled here with some
00:56:14sunshine, towards the north though, different story remaining quite cloudy
00:56:18with some rain and drizzle, this quite persistent around western hills through
00:56:22the course the day, much lighter winds and feeling warm in the sunshine
00:56:25once again, but return of that muggy feel, temperatures pushing into the
00:56:29mid-20s for many areas, including eastern areas of Scotland where they might start
00:56:33to see some breaks in the cloud, lady on into the
00:56:36day. now through Monday night, there's not much change, there's
00:56:39still this north south split in the weather, so plenty of cloud towards the north, some
00:56:43rain and drizzle, but some clearer skies towards the south. we'll still
00:56:47see plenty of fine weather into next week, though some rain and showers across the north at times

01:05:10Ed Sheeren has apologized to fans for making mistakes as he

01:06:35the Libdems can take on Nigel Farage and Zak Palansky at the next general

01:06:42both. Speaking at the party conference in Brighton, he said if the Liberal
01:06:46Democrats were to form the next government, they would cut fuel duty
01:06:50and rail and bus fairs a cost of around two billion pounds a
01:06:53year.

01:07:17itself, because the government's getting huge amounts of tax revenue from these higher oil and
01:07:21gas prices, they should give it back to people,
01:07:25and the conservatives are calling on labor to cut welfare spending in next month's
01:07:29budget." warning the government must confront what they describe as
01:07:32Britain's economic peril. The route comes as inflation reaches
01:07:36five-month high of 3.1% with Chancellor John Healey due to
01:07:40deliver the budget at the end of October. but Bridget Philipson
01:07:43insists, benefits support young people into work and lifts
01:07:47children out of poverty, some the hardest working
01:07:51people I know are people that are in law-paid jobs, they work incredibly hard,
01:07:55they do the right thing, they don't earn huge amounts of money, and they deserve support
01:07:59to, and to that point about child poverty, one the biggest indicators is to what
01:08:03whether you will go to live a good life where you can contribute as whether you grow up in
01:08:06poverty, therefore tackling child poverty, lifting children out of poverty is
01:08:10absolutely the right thing

01:09:52recognize the contribution that people make and to make sure that they are awarded for

01:09:59Manchester United Muslim supporters club called for Sir
01:10:03Jim Ratcliff to go following his claim that Britain has
01:10:07been colonized by immigrants, which is something he said a couple of
01:10:11months ago, but his double down on it, basically blaming
01:10:14immigration and benefits for the slide into
01:10:18decline that he's talking about. okay, joining me now is the deputy editor
01:10:22of cap x, oscar gill lewis. oscar, good to see you,
01:10:26thank you so much for joining. what do you make of what sir Jim Ratcliff
01:10:30has had to say? to be on the show. i think what
01:10:34Jim Ratcliff said is completely right and it's important that we have people coming
01:10:38out to say that, that that things are not going well.
01:10:42economically in Britain and we need to make a change and that
01:10:46when people like Andy Burnam and Ed Davy come out saying oh let's give
01:10:50people breathing space or let's give people a little bit of room or a little bit of help they
01:10:54completely misunderstand the point we're a high debt with high
01:10:57borrowing cost low tax low high tax high
01:11:01um low growth economy and Jim Rack is completely right to
01:11:05point and what did you make i mean bridget phillipson I mean
01:11:09to be fair she has point I mean
01:11:13has built
01:11:13his business up from scratch, employed a lot of people, etc etc.
01:11:16that much we know, but he is tax exile and bridget saying, well
01:11:20why would i take any notice of a tech? she does have point,
01:11:24doesn't she? does she done? mean, when are we going to be f to
01:11:28brigit philipson? mean, i don't think
01:11:31that uh, makes his point any less true
01:11:35if he said it if he was still here. now we have a really high
01:11:39tax economy and it really punishes people like jim and many the...
01:11:43um just ordinary workers in
01:11:45the UK, but Jim Ratclift is serious operator, he knows what he's talking
01:11:48about, just because he's moved to Monaco, he's done that because of
01:11:52incentives, britt philipson outside she does because of incentives,
01:11:56people on welfare out, they do because of incentives, just because he's moved to Monaco, it
01:12:00doesn't make his
01:12:00point any less valid, and what do you make the
01:12:04reaction from the Manchester United Muslim supporters
01:12:07club who are saying that his comments on
01:12:11immigration? and people receiving benefits are the
01:12:15reason that Britain is in that slide to decline? do
01:12:19they have point? i understand why they
01:12:23might be annoyed with Jim Ratcliff because the comments. now at the start I don't
01:12:27believe that he doubled down on saying that UK is being colonized
01:12:30but he
01:12:30did double down saying that uh Britain can't handle
01:12:34the immigration problem and the welfare problem. now these are two really big
01:12:38problems in the UK um but
01:12:42i don't think they're right to get annoyed or call for j to lead because of
01:12:46that, he's entitled to his opinion. now if he's not doing a good job with
01:12:50United, then maybe they've got a point to call for it, but not because of what
01:12:54he said about immigration. or welfare okay,
01:12:57and the Italy have recently introduced a
01:13:01scheme to encourage wealthy business
01:13:04owners who are going
01:13:06to go for growth to come back into the country, to move back
01:13:09to Italy. um, it has been suggested that maybe that is something we
01:13:13should consider in this country. do you think what
01:13:17Italy are doing makes sense by paying the wealthy,
01:13:21business generators and wealth generators to move back to Italy?
01:13:25to grow the economy, do you think that makes sense? i think
01:13:29it does make sense. mean, one the things that pointed out in his
01:13:32comments is that the us for example uh
01:13:36welcomes wealthy people and in encourages wealth and encourages success
01:13:40and ristaking. it is completely right for Italy, which has been
01:13:43stagnant for the last 20 years, no growth and for
01:13:47multiple years to try and bring the people who grow economies
01:13:51back. and it is true, mean this is fact. that even
01:13:55bridget phillipson couldn't ignore that more than uh 16,00 millionaires
01:13:59left the UK last year, that's the highest exodus
01:14:02ever recorded according to this one particular report, and
01:14:06these are the people that pay most taxes and you
01:14:10know all this sort of like oh what they don't pay tax, yet many them do, mean
01:14:14fred done whose family um paid 400 million pounds in
01:14:18taxes last year, he says he's too old to use to leave the UK,
01:14:21but if he could he would what? you say to those
01:14:25people that saying, well,
01:14:27you know, if you're a millionaire or billionaire and you're leaving the country, you really can't love your
01:14:31country, you should be here supporting
01:14:33it. it's an interesting comment,
01:14:37it's not one that i've heard before, mean i i think that Jim RatCliff still
01:14:41clearly lives loves his country and loves you know the United Kingdom
01:14:44and he's bought a football club and has businesses that do business in the
01:14:48UK, um, mean he's left for personal reasons, but there are
01:14:52plenty of people who leave for personal reasons they maintain the city. and shit i
01:14:55don't think it devalues um his patriotism
01:14:59any less, and one
01:15:02the things
01:15:02we really got to point out is that uh the people like chriss and
01:15:06and the're such huge tax payers
01:15:10and that
01:15:13the the chris workers is tax income last year was the equivalent to
01:15:173800 tax median tax
01:15:20pay mean that really is insane the fact that the andy burn and the bridget philipson look
01:15:24at that and don't see that we are a high tax economy
01:15:28driving um the wealth creators, driving the
01:15:32innovators out
01:15:33of our economy, it's really ridiculous and it's actually it's quite worrying,
01:15:37indeed, yeah we do seem to have the politics of envy large at the

01:16:30tax rises ahead of next month's budget, wealth taxes um,
01:16:34it seems to be the way they're aiming for at the moment, as a treasury looks
01:16:38to raise an extra 10 to 15 billion to fill that black hole, we've been
01:16:42here before, haven't we? Let's talk now to a former advisor to Andy
01:16:45Burnham, Kevin McGeever. Kevin, good to see you, thank you so much for
01:16:49joining me. I mean, Kevin, you are a former advisor to Andy Burnham,
01:16:53and should he call? a general
01:16:55election? um, i think you
01:16:59should always have that on the table as an option don, but i don't think it'll be a good
01:17:03idea. i think first of all, he's only been in office two months, he's only
01:17:07just come back in parliament sitting, he's in new york this week meeting president
01:17:10trump, we got labor conference, and the budget, i think there's a lot of road to travel down
01:17:14before any talk of an election converts um into one, i think more
01:17:18importantly uh we need to see how the budget plays out and also how the
01:17:22global uh context impacts us, the... oil prices
01:17:25$110 a barrel, that's that's basically the largest
01:17:29chunk of that fiscal headroom reduction you talked about, yes that's outside the
01:17:33parents control, what's in his control is early election, i think you know
01:17:37there is case talk of wealth taxes etc, they
01:17:41wouldn't actually raise that much money, income tax would, but that would breach the
01:17:4524 manifesto and he's said he's fully committed to that, who goes
01:17:49into an election saying they're going to raise income tax as their key plank, i
01:17:52don't think that's wise, you don't uh p for the leadership for the last 10
01:17:56years just to throw it away to ask people to vote to pay more money,
01:18:00but the problem Kevin is we do need to raise more money, I mean sort of like the the
01:18:04pit benefits bill alone is set to double by 2030. mean
01:18:08uh we're expected to be spending 19 billion a year more on
01:18:11disability disability benefit payments by then we need to
01:18:15get more money from somewhere we can't borrow anymore we're already up to our eyeballs in
01:18:18debt so it has to come from
01:18:20somewhere it does i think first of
01:18:24all you have few places to look rather than just looking to raise tax
01:18:28in and of itself the first is to look at some of that exculating
01:18:32spend i think
01:18:33the welfare secretary is looking
01:18:35at disability benefits and pip and and others, I think
01:18:38I don't think anyone thinks it's acceptable that bill should double uh and we should be footing
01:18:42that um and also the best way to increase tax is
01:18:46to increase growth that pays for it, you can't tax and ever
01:18:50decreasing pi and expect this country to thrive, Andy
01:18:54Burnham knows that, so I think actually everyone's talking about the
01:18:57budget, I think that's going to be a bit of a non-event in so far as the
01:19:01envelopes set, I think the bigger thing to look at is the 10-year
01:19:05plan that is being launched around Christmas. "that will
01:19:08set out what Andy Burnam's longer-term vision is, and I suspect there'll
01:19:12be elements in that where he could go further if he had a general
01:19:16election mandate, but that won't be just tax, that will be
01:19:19suite of measures that tax may well form a part of it, so actually
01:19:23I think all eyes on the 10-year plan rather than the budget, and that could potentially tell us
01:19:27if there is going to be early election, but the simple fact
01:19:30is, this parliament runs to 2029, you got
01:19:34to give and he should give himself at least year to see if he's..." starts
01:19:38to take effect, you're then into mid-27, you actually at that point
01:19:41you're kind of in the run into a general election anyway, so I
01:19:45think I think obviously people are going to talk about it, the media are going to get
01:19:48excited about talk of early election and as our pulsters because it's good
01:19:52for business, but I think um ultimately um Andy's got much
01:19:56calm ahead than that. Okay, I mean, but it it's true, I mean the burn and
01:20:00bounce is still bouncing along, I mean the latest poll put some four
01:20:04points ahead of reform on 27. percent
01:20:08reform on 23%, so it's bouncing quite well, he
01:20:12could capitalize on that, I mean the longer it goes, that might start falling
01:20:15off, exactly, and that is the the
01:20:19risk calculation that him and the team are going to make. I think statistically,
01:20:23new prime minister is never more popular than they are in the first three
01:20:27months, it goes down after that. The only exception to that was Margaret Satter in the
01:20:31Falklands, which is very unique set of circumstances, so I'm sure
01:20:35people will be saying, go for it. I worked... the labor party under Gordon Brown when
01:20:39everyone said go in 2007 and then he actually ultimately didn't do
01:20:42so, I think looking back he probably wish he he had done
01:20:45so you know history does actually give Andy Burnam many lessons bause there are
01:20:49good ones and there are bad ones, I think if there is a longer term
01:20:53lead poll inbed beds into the new year and that's got to be a
01:20:57positive poll rating as well, not just because reform are struggling or in the other or
01:21:01the green start to to tank from their peak in May and I think early
01:21:05election is possible, but the fact is if you go... to the country a message that's
01:21:09basically I'm chancing it cuz I'm quite popular I don't think
01:21:12that would work but I think you're right just just very quickly and finally Kevin
01:21:15you can you can tell me honestly here now we we know Andy likes being
01:21:19liked I mean you man the people the TikTok videos etc
01:21:22etc how's he going to cope with not being liked as
01:21:26much because that is going to happen at some point isn't it
01:21:30well he lost two leadership elections so certainly knows what it's like not to be like so I think he'll be all

01:25:26conference and sir Ed Dave is taking aim at reform and Elon
01:25:30Musk
01:25:30I mean no one surprised by that's what he does
01:25:32the party is gearing up for a fight as Britain's political battle lines are
01:25:36redrawn but if early election came
01:25:39calling would the lib dems be ready would you be ready as
01:25:43well GB News chief political correspondent Catherine Forster
01:25:47is there for us live now Catherine what's the latest?
01:25:52Yes, well good afternoon from Brighton where the Liberal Democrats are
01:25:56talking about the economy today. Yesterday, Sir Davy
01:26:00gave a speech uh, having a pop at Donald
01:26:04Trump, having a pop at Nigel Farage, talking about
01:26:07nasty populism and saying that the libdems
01:26:11care and will fight it. Today they're
01:26:14talking about a proposed 12p of liter of
01:26:18fuel at the pump. uh also slashing the bus cap
01:26:22to one pound and the economy more broadly and their
01:26:25plans to grow it. so let's talk now to Al Pinkerton,
01:26:29who is the Liberal Democrat MP for Surry Heath
01:26:33and Europe spokesperson. thank you so much for talking to
01:26:37us on GB News today. can I ask you uh the
01:26:41treasury spokesperson Daisy Cooper has been talking about
01:26:44plans for a growth and defense partnership with the
01:26:48EU. can you explain what? means by that and
01:26:50what effect do you think
01:26:51it could have? yeah, this was the subject of my big speech yesterday morning as
01:26:55well, since we left the European Union, one the things that we know is
01:26:59that for example growth in British industries and investment in British industries has
01:27:03plummeted between about 12 and 18%. international
01:27:07trade is down between 80 and 100 billion a year and therefore the
01:27:11government aren't getting all the tax advantages from all of that trades that we used
01:27:15to do. the truth is the British economy is more or less flight lining,
01:27:18productivity is... is isn't increasing, and we need to
01:27:22do something, we need to do something for growth, because I think there's a very real chance,
01:27:26and I know this for fact that people feel that they're going to be worse off tomorrow than they
01:27:30are today, that their children aren't going to have the opportunities that they enjoyed, and
01:27:34that's frankly leading to kind of doom loop of misery and
01:27:37desperation, and that is precisely the kind of conditions in which the
01:27:41politics of grievance, and you've already heard that Davy talking about that over the past couple of
01:27:44days, can begin to take hold, the one thing that we need to do for our
01:27:48country is engender growth and we have to acknowledge after
01:27:5210 years since the Brexit vote, the one thing that we can do is to improve our
01:27:56trading relations with brilliant with with Europe. As I said yesterday in
01:28:00my speech, geography matters, gravity matters when it comes to
01:28:04trade, you trade more with the people closes to you, then you can do with countries on
01:28:08the other side the world, and that's a trend that's increasing an era of
01:28:11globalization rather than decreasing. So if we want to pull the lever on
01:28:15economic growth in the UK, we need to re-improve our
01:28:18relationship with Europe and that also. comes to defense as well, because we are going
01:28:22to be investing lots of money in new armaments and
01:28:26on on our defense industry over the next couple of years, so
01:28:29we need to do that efficiently and effectively, Europe needs to... improve its
01:28:33defense capabilities and frankly working with Europe a coordinated
01:28:37way so that all of our armed forces are better, not a single EU
01:28:41army, but that all of our armed forces work better together, can procure
01:28:44better is the very best thing that we can do for our armed forces, but also for our
01:28:48economy. very worrying times with all the uh noises coming out of
01:28:52Russia certainly, but I mean uh, we only left the European Union at
01:28:56in 2020, wasn't it? I mean, basically we've had a
01:29:00pretty stagnant economy since the financial crisis. "and actually the rest of
01:29:04Europe isn't doing well either, there's plenty of stagnant
01:29:07economies, it's no silver bullet,
01:29:10it it no, is no civil bullet, and so much of this isn't actually about Brexit, it's not about the
01:29:14European Union Union, it's about who we are as a country, and what we
01:29:18know is we're entering increasingly geopolitical, geopolitically
01:29:21turbulent times, we do have war in Europe, people are
01:29:25genuinely concerned that that war could escalate still further, we have increasingly
01:29:29unreliable ally in the United States, especially with..." Donald
01:29:32Trump in the white house and that may very well continue if any of his acolytes get
01:29:36into power afterwards. So we have decision to make. Where do we want Britain to
01:29:40be placed in the midp point the 21st century? Is it kind of
01:29:44bobbing off the North Atlantic? Not quite sure subject to the great the
01:29:48powers the the whims the great powers or taking greater control
01:29:52of ourselves. Now my contention would be that sovereignty isn't about the
01:29:56theoretical ability to act. It's about actually being able to
01:30:00do something ourselves. It's about. taking control and that actually
01:30:04requires different way of thinking about sovereignty, it requires working collectively
01:30:08and collaboratively on the big challenges that we face.
01:30:12sovereignty was sold as we had to retreat from the world and that we that we controlled
01:30:15everything ourselves, but I would ask your viewers, do they feel more
01:30:19in control their lives today than they did in the year 2000 or they
01:30:23did in 2016 or in 2012 or do they in fact feel more out of
01:30:27control, was sovereignty misold to them as a concept in the
01:30:31Brexit referendum? 'Well, one thing that was sold to people was take back control of
01:30:35our borders, something that successive governments have patently failed to do
01:30:39uh, just look at the numbers crossing the channel on small boats. We've got this
01:30:42incredible situation in Piddington now of 1,200
01:30:46largely male uh asilumseakers being dumped a village of
01:30:50300, women there very, very worried for their
01:30:54safety, they those are legitimate concerns, are they not? I
01:30:58agree, they're entirely legitimate concerns and I would again ask the question, do people feel
01:31:02more in'. control now than he did in 2016. I remember
01:31:06Niger Faraj standing in front of poster saying let's let's leave the EU
01:31:09and let's take back control of our borders. He linked those two things
01:31:13together. I think what the last 10 years have shown is that those two things were never linked
01:31:17at all,
01:31:17that well Nigel Farash would say he wasn't in government, so other people have blown
01:31:21up. Oh, he might very, he might very well say that, but he made the point that
01:31:25that intrinsically if we leave
01:31:27the EU, we will get back control of our borders,
01:31:29and that's not the case, because this was always a story about... and how
01:31:33we governed ourselves rather than our relationship with Europe, just as
01:31:37Brexit was not the magic bullet for all of those challenges, so
01:31:41going back into the EU isn't the magic bulletin in reverse, but
01:31:44it would substantially improve things, and I do feel huge sympathy for the people
01:31:47ofton. I know the MP for for Bister, Callan
01:31:51Miller who has been campaigning tirelessly both in public and behind the scenes,
01:31:54to get the MOD
01:31:56and to get the homeoffice to rethink this plan, which is completely
01:31:59excessive for
01:32:00the for a community the size of 300. but what i'd say also to the people of
01:32:04Pittington is that perhaps even though they've generated lots of noise with their
01:32:08campaigning, some of which is frankly I think deeply negative and frank and
01:32:11verging on racist, even though the people of Piddington aren't, but they've attracted in
01:32:15some deeply dark elements, that might actually be in
01:32:19the end counterproductive, because the more they force ministers to go on the
01:32:23record and say no, this is the plan and we're sticking with it, the more difficult
01:32:27it is for a government to then backtrack or think again, and I think
01:32:30the work that Callum has been doing... quietly and diplomatically, I think
01:32:34that's the right approach, so I would just caution that everyone needs to tone,
01:32:38tone this down, because ultimately that might lead to the better solution for the people of
01:32:42Piddington. Well, Andy Burnham says that the
01:32:46burden of uh asylum seekers have got to be shared more fairly
01:32:50through the country. The problem is though, isn't it that people are just sick of
01:32:54seeing these people crossing the channel and they don't
01:32:57want to take their share because they just want the to the government to do its job
01:33:00and stop the boats, how would... liberal democrats do that? well, first of all,
01:33:04I would say that boat crossings across the channel are substantially down
01:33:08over the last five years and the past year we have far
01:33:12fewer boat crossings than than any than any year in the past in the past
01:33:16five, so things are moving in the right direction, but fundamentally you cannot
01:33:19ultimately tackle this problem unless again you are willing to work collectively and
01:33:23collaboratively with with Europe, because this is a European
01:33:26migration crisis, people are not just arriving on the shores the UK
01:33:30from elsewhere, they're coming of course through France. but perhaps they first applied for asylum
01:33:34in southern Italy or in Greece, so unless we have
01:33:37mechanism to collectively deal with this issue,
01:33:40it will, there will always be economy for that illegal movement to people across the channel
01:33:44and... That's what we are proposing, we're saying that we need to join the European Union's new
01:33:48asylum scheme, because that will allow us to return people back to the
01:33:52first port of entry and the first point of registration in in
01:33:56Europe, and and it would then allow Europe as a whole, including the
01:34:00UK, to disperse people through through the whole of Europe,
01:34:04and we of course we need to take our fair share of asylum seekers, we're signaties to the
01:34:081951 refugee convention, but it fundamentally undermines
01:34:11the economic model that is leading to the small boats for.
01:34:15and i think that has
01:34:16to be a good thing, and if people genuinely want small boats to stop,
01:34:19then that is the way to do it. well, under
01:34:23the dublin agreement uh, we did have that right, didn't we? uh, before
01:34:27brexit, but we actually didn't send back very many people at all, and
01:34:31the the theory that people have to uh seek asylum in the first
01:34:35safe country they come to doesn't seem in practice work terribly
01:34:39well in Europe. pinkerton really appreciate you talking to us this

01:41:57the the the cracks of what they're saying, mean obviously mean it's already
01:42:00been iknow century or
01:42:04more um
01:42:04you know and we've been hearing about this for decades now
01:42:06but obviously now they're going legal we have international courts we have treaties we have international laws and so
01:42:10obviously
01:42:11mean i'm sure it's going to be
01:42:12a long long time if ever you know when it's actually before a
01:42:16court and judges sitting there deciding it but yeah that does seem to be i think
01:42:20they you know they've decided that diplomacy negotiation only go so
01:42:23far and so now is that time that they think that you know if they actually are going to
01:42:27have any reparations before it's too late then now is the time
01:42:31and and legally can they do that? that's the thing, I
01:42:35mean obviously it is an unprecedented case and that is something that would
01:42:39remains to be seen what the actual decision you know comes out to be, but
01:42:43obviously I mean I would say that just taking it as an
01:42:45anti-savery case probably
01:42:49not, there's obviously all sorts of legal reasons and practical reasons
01:42:53for that, but essentially just because
01:42:55you know obviously almost all the people... or definitely all
01:42:59the people involved on on both sides or all sides are no longer
01:43:03alive and though therefore you how do you prove it
01:43:05you know who the slave owners were who the slaves were you know how each them was
01:43:09treated you know I mean how how each family has suffered because of
01:43:13that obviously from evidential point of view that's almost impossible to prove now so I
01:43:17think and obviously that's the reason as well that they have been trying to resolve it through talks and
01:43:21just
01:43:21you know trying to convince their former slave owners or their masters or
01:43:25the colonizers just to take the... reasonable and fair
01:43:29view and just help them through things, but obviously that's having
01:43:32failed, so now they're going to be trying different avenues and that's the legal
01:43:36avenue, so like we saw the latest one seems to be that they might
01:43:40be taking the international covenant or the international treaty that deals with
01:43:43anti-racism laws, so that's what it's going to be, so so
01:43:47that's how it's going to be assessed now, not necessarily just purely as a slavery case, but the point
01:43:51is, in this case obviously it's the white colonizers against the black
01:43:55slaves, but obviously I mean you know... that that's you know a
01:43:59unique position obviously you know there were slave owners of all colors and slaves
01:44:03of all colors and but in this case the Caribbean obviously
01:44:07members the commonwealth they were formally colonized by British,
01:44:11in fact the king himself, the king is still king of Jamaica, and
01:44:15that
01:44:15you know obviously all sorts of anomalies would
01:44:17arise, because of those positions like that, so for
01:44:21instance, I think it was the government of Jamaica few months ago
01:44:24that um sort to bring this to the privy council, so again the
01:44:28privy council
01:44:30or basically their Supreme Court in a way or their highest is in fact basically British
01:44:34judges still and their head of state and their king is still King Charles
01:44:38the 3rd and so a way they were... basicallying asking king Charles
01:44:42II to bring the case against Britain and so obviously I
01:44:46mean
01:44:46you know there is lot that has to be you know that we will have to
01:44:49resolve before this case actually gets to court. I i was just say does
01:44:53it open just quickly and briefly shop does it open the you know if that that coult
01:44:57case was successful does it open the
01:45:01the the door for all of us to go to court about slavery
01:45:05in the past
01:45:06I mean for example I mean sort of like you know the Vikings could I
01:45:10take Denmark to court basically. I, I, I
01:45:14mean, I, I, I guess, I mean, obviously it depends on you, again, like I was saying, what we can prove, and but
01:45:18obviously I mean, I think it might be slightly more difficult for Britain or British people
01:45:21or definitely Britain as state to now say that they continue to suffer
01:45:25because of those those atrocities
01:45:29really, whereas I think the Caribbean and their stance is
01:45:33that firstly it's more recent, but secondly, because the way that they still treated and what's
01:45:37been happening, even in recent history that...
01:45:40lots that more slavery isn't something that just happened in the past has gone away, the aftermath, the
01:45:43effects, they are still being felt by those people today.

01:50:39afternoon, the Royal British legion is calling for volunteers
01:50:43in North Yorkshire to help run this year's poppy appeal, more than
01:50:4760,00 volunteers across the UK give their time to the annual
01:50:51campaign during remembrance period, now the charity is asking
01:50:55locals to spare some time to support veterans, serving personnel and
01:50:59their families. GB News, Yorkshire and Humber reporter Anna Riley has the
01:51:02story for us. Honoring the
01:51:06fallen. The poppy is an emblem of military
01:51:09sacrifice. Those who buy one contribute to the Royal British
01:51:13Legion's largest annual fundraising campaign. Ahead
01:51:17of its launch, the charity is recruiting volunteers in North

01:51:25that are serving and those that have served, of course those guys and ladies have

01:51:47medal was the blue one which was for the
01:51:51united nations service in Cyprus. Army
01:51:55veteran Barry Blood is proud to have served his
01:51:58country. During his time in the forces, Barry
01:52:01experienced the trauma of conflict. He joined the RBL
01:52:0530 years ago and has sold Poppies ever since. I
01:52:09ended up spending two years all together in Northern
01:52:13Ireland. On the first tour there we lost two soldiers killed and one
01:52:16wounded on the first patrol we did. And I think about that all the
01:52:20time. The British Army in the... was for the 30 years lost
01:52:241441 people, but it was a traumatic
01:52:28time for the soldiers and it was for the wives as well, the wives
01:52:32suffered just as much as we did. the
01:52:36fundraiser is vital part of rememberance and support
01:52:39serving personnel, veterans and their families. we
01:52:43all like to try to remember what's gone in the past, and our
01:52:47senataf here has got lots of names on from
01:52:50Iraq and Afghanistan, and northern Ireland and
01:52:54so on, every year around 60,000 volunteers give up
01:52:58their time nationwide to gather donations. It's a vital
01:53:02cause that needs this support for years to come. Anna

01:54:15turning a bit chillier than of late. For the time being though, high pressure
01:54:18continues to build across the southwest, meaning it should be quite a fine to
01:54:22the day, plenty of clear skies, so eventually across the north we'll start to see more
01:54:26cloud push through towards the northwest, and eventually through the early hours the
01:54:30morning, we'll see rain progress through here, eventually into northern island, parts
01:54:34of... and northwest England, to the south of this though, plenty
01:54:38of clear skies, so turning a bit chillier here, rural areas under the clearer
01:54:42skies could drop down to around 2 to 4°grees celsius, so quite a chilly
01:54:46start by the time we reach Monday morning for some, but
01:54:49it is eventually going to start to turn a bit warmer, a bit muggier, particularly across the
01:54:53north where we'll see some clouds, some rain, this could turn quite persistent across the
01:54:57hills of Scotland, also quite cloudy and damp start across northern
01:55:01Island, northern England we'll see some patchy cloud and possibly someone
01:55:05night outbs of rain towards the far northwest, elsewhere across England and
01:55:08Wales though, it should be quite a bright start to the day, a little bit chilly, some
01:55:12patchy fog in places, though this should soon clear through the course the morning and
01:55:16remaining quite dry and settled here with some sunshine, towards the north
01:55:20though, different story remaining quite cloudy with some rain and drizzle, this quite
01:55:24persistent around western hills through the course the day,
