00:00:00and so on, somewhere as if
00:00:02everyone, as if everyone pulls to their own side, right? The government is busy with itself,
00:00:06as I said, persistently appointing suitable
00:00:10and not capable people, citizens are looking for solutions in
00:00:13their own way, activists are trying to somehow help
00:00:17citizens to at least live some procedures in some areas
00:00:21of life as easily as possible, but it's really as if we don't listen
00:00:24to each other at all, why don't we play for the same team? Exactly, that's right, exactly
00:00:28right, and citizens suffer.

00:02:08sweaty, tired, and completely exhausted. You've probably already
00:02:11tried those big, bulky, noisy fans, but all they do is

00:02:19desktop coolers and tall freestanding fans, they simply
00:02:22don't have enough power to really do the job. And why would you turn on the air
00:02:26conditioner throughout the whole house when most of the time you're only in one room?

00:05:03Modrac, about rivers, about
00:05:07lakes, about places in Bosnia and Herzegovina where
00:05:11citizens, more and more often, seek to cool off. We will talk about
00:05:15that next, because in recent days, high
00:05:18temperatures fill those rivers, lakes, and swimming pools across
00:05:22the country. Many seek refuge from the heat in natural
00:05:25swimming areas. However, what seems like refreshment can turn into
00:05:29danger in a few seconds. That is why we will talk about
00:05:32that this morning, about the most common situations in which
00:05:35rescuers have to intervene. My guest this morning
00:05:39is Senad Strukan from the GSS station Sarajevo. Good morning... Welcome
00:05:42to the new day. Good morning to you, your viewers, and thank you for the invitation. It's
00:05:46great to see these professional divers on
00:05:50diving boards across Bosnia and Herzegovina, so
00:05:52tourist stages as we called them, here on Bendbaša,
00:05:56recently in Mostar, on Pliva in Jajce, so
00:06:00some other lakes and bathing areas are being revived,
00:06:04which are becoming more and more popular, because it seems people,
00:06:07due to the economic situation, but it seems to me that some need and
00:06:11trend to... rest more where temperatures are more
00:06:14acceptable, and they have long ceased to be so
00:06:17by the sea, they are looking for alternatives. What
00:06:21do you see in the field, are people flocking
00:06:24to lakes, to rivers, swimming pools, those natural
00:06:27refreshments that we have in Bosnia and Herzegovina? First of all, I will say that
00:06:31I am glad to see that more and more of our citizens
00:06:34dare, I would say, to explore our
00:06:38natural beauties of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because we were witnesses until
00:06:41a few years ago. "I would say until Corona, only during Corona did the exploration
00:06:45of our beauties begin, we were not aware of what
00:06:48all we have, now we see that trend where
00:06:52more and more of our citizens visit those natural beauties of ours, in
00:06:55fact they discover something that they absolutely didn't know
00:06:59existed here, but they were looking for it in the neighborhood, in
00:07:02Croatia, in Montenegro. What do we have, how many of those
00:07:06swimming areas are there, are they more safe or unsafe, and what
00:07:09is the most common perception of people when it comes to the lake?" when
00:07:12it comes to the river it is difficult to
00:07:16generalize, there are safe locations, there are
00:07:19risky locations, potentially dangerous locations and so
00:07:22on. What everything
00:07:26depends on the individual, right? What kind of
00:07:29swimmer are they, how do they manage in these locations? The safest
00:07:33option is definitely publicly regulated swimming areas. They should be
00:07:37the safest, because if it's a publicly regulated swimming area,
00:07:40there should be some lifeguards there who can react in
00:07:44a situation. How many such are there? Which are the most popular? You are most often
00:07:48in Herzegovina, you say, right? Well, I am somewhat connected to that
00:07:52part of northern Herzegovina. I spend a lot of time there, especially on
00:07:55the Neretva river, right? But we have a problem that the law
00:07:59does not clearly define and prescribe how a public
00:08:03swimming area should be regulated. There are some regulations that, unfortunately, in most
00:08:06cases are not followed. Where they are most followed are...
00:08:10private pools, swimming areas that people, people
00:08:14built, created, opened to the public in order to
00:08:17protect themselves, they simply became certain, so everything else
00:08:21is at your own risk more or less, yes, with the caveat
00:08:25that the risk is much lower if you swim in a public
00:08:28swimming area where there are many more people who can potentially
00:08:32react. Which public swimming area is that, which lake?
00:08:35For example, I would take Boračko Lake, which is a beautiful
00:08:39lake that has been used for tens of hundreds
00:08:42of years. People use it, swim in it, unfortunately
00:08:45accidents happen, but it is
00:08:49a beautiful swimming area in a natural environment, where the danger
00:08:52is, I would say, minimal, if certain
00:08:55rules are again respected. And the
00:08:58river, the river is specific,
00:09:02specific in terms of safety. I will take the Neretva river as
00:09:05an example again. In its course, there are calm
00:09:09parts where the water is ankle-deep, where you can wade, you can
00:09:13yes.
00:09:20In the middle course, for example, when you enter
00:09:23the canyon of the Neretva River, it becomes a completely wild river
00:09:26and then certain specific technical knowledge and
00:09:30skills are required that people must have in order
00:09:33to be able to cope there. If you want to experience that part
00:09:37of the river, the best recommendation is rafting, mhm, where you
00:09:41engage... professional rafting guides who
00:09:45take you down the river canyon and you have the opportunity, right, to
00:09:48experience something that you otherwise cannot experience from the road.
00:09:52Trebižat is mentioned by many and people increasingly
00:09:55choose to cool off in this river. What makes
00:09:59it specific and is it for more experienced
00:10:03people or for everyone? To be honest, I don't have much
00:10:06experience with Trebižat, I visited it a couple of times
00:10:10and I was really impressed by its beauty. And that's probably what
00:10:13attracts people, its beauty that
00:10:16uh, of course, the nature that surrounds the
00:10:20river itself and the opportunity to swim there,
00:10:23refresh ourselves. I think it's... it's much
00:10:27more comfortable for staying and for that recreational variant than
00:10:30other rivers such as Neretva, Una, Tara, which
00:10:34are much, much faster and larger rivers. In which lakes or rivers would you not
00:10:38recommend swimming?
00:10:41Well, again, I say because of all the factors, generally speaking, when you take
00:10:44into account the water temperature,
00:10:47and the rapids, and the current, and the flora and fauna,
00:10:51everything somehow combined, well, again, I say it's hard to generalize.
00:10:55The Neretva is a beautiful river, and you can swim in its calmer
00:10:58parts. Once you pass that calm part, it is no longer recommended
00:11:02for swimming. So, there are
00:11:04parts, that's right, most rivers with natural riverbeds, right? There are
00:11:08rivers that have regulated artificial riverbeds, that's a slightly different situation, that's
00:11:12absolutely not recommended, but it's pointless for me to tell people,
00:11:16citizens of Sarajevo, not to swim in Miljacka, nobody swims in
00:11:19it anyway. People used to swim in Bosnica, people used to swim in Željeznica too,
00:11:22well, those are some past old times.
00:11:25On, well, more or less those
00:11:28rivers are polluted. Rakitnica is also a beautiful river,
00:11:31however, it is specific due to its canyon, that
00:11:34is, we are lucky, right, that we have in
00:11:38Bosnia and Herzegovina two canyons that have entered
00:11:42world statistics, more precisely European statistics,
00:11:45the Tara River canyon is the second largest, that is, the first
00:11:49largest, deepest canyon, the Rakitnica River, its canyon
00:11:52is the second largest in Europe. In
00:11:56world statistics too, well, you see, we learned something
00:11:59this morning. Now I'm listening to you, I'm mentioning rivers that
00:12:03come to mind, and I'm thinking that
00:12:07there's a lot of potential, but unfortunately we haven't organized any of it
00:12:10and that people could
00:12:13somehow look for and find alternatives to swimming in these
00:12:16hot summer days if they were sure that
00:12:20children and adults were safe. So I would
00:12:24like these rivers, lakes not to be an alternative,
00:12:27but a primary choice, for the sea to be an alternative,
00:12:31because it is truly enjoyable, it is really beautiful on
00:12:35those rivers. Maybe I am subjective because I spend a lot
00:12:38of time on the river, but I prefer swimming in the river and
00:12:42having that active
00:12:45type of vacation compared to the sea where you just,
00:12:49now what all happens on the river, you unfortunately, besides enjoying the
00:12:52rivers, very often intervene. Because of what..."
00:12:55Most often, what do people carelessly do that puts themselves
00:12:59in danger? Well, more or less in all other
00:13:02situations where people are in danger,
00:13:05very often that danger arises from underestimating the environment
00:13:09and overestimating one's own abilities. Mhm,
00:13:12uh, we must be aware of our abilities
00:13:16and we must be aware of the environment in which we find ourselves. Nature is something that we must
00:13:20not underestimate in what sense, whether it is a mountain, whether
00:13:24it is a river. or some light picnic area near
00:13:27the city, mm, all of that, I
00:13:30would say, is something that a person who has
00:13:33spent most of their time in the city is not used to. What do we
00:13:36overestimate about ourselves?
00:13:39Uh, well, specifically, depending, if we
00:13:43focus on the river, on on this water
00:13:46biome, uh,
00:13:49the quality of the swimmer,
00:13:53for example, how capable a swimmer we are. We think we are a good
00:13:57swimmer if we swim well in an Olympic pool or the sea, which
00:14:00absolutely does not have to mean if you find yourself in a river. A river is something
00:14:04that is active, something that that that
00:14:07carries, that's right, it carries, it has its currents, it has other obstacles and
00:14:11dangers, whether they are siphons, whether they are some
00:14:14fallen, fallen trees across its riverbed, whether it is some
00:14:18rock. The river changes its direction of movement, you must
00:14:21be ready, capable, knowledgeable, know at least a minimum of hydrology to...
00:14:25know how to manage. Do
00:14:28swimmers enter the water suddenly?
00:14:31It happens, yes, yes, yes, yes, heated up, yes, it happens, especially
00:14:34on these hot summer days when temperatures are high, we can't wait to
00:14:38jump into the water, to cool off and then there's
00:14:41that shock when people jump into the river,
00:14:44hot. How dangerous is it actually and how much
00:14:47should we raise awareness about
00:14:50jumping in hot or overheated, especially diving
00:14:54headfirst? "It's not the best way to cool down. Well,
00:14:57we were taught from a young age not to do that
00:15:01and I have a feeling that it's mostly done by people
00:15:05who grew up on the river and feel free and think that nothing
00:15:09can happen to them, that they are, shall we say, in quotation marks,
00:15:12stronger than the river and that biology that actually happens
00:15:15in all of us. Maybe we can do it many times and nothing happens to us,
00:15:19but it only takes once for
00:15:22how can a swimmer assess that the water is safe?" for swimming, can it be
00:15:26somehow, are there some tips, some small tricks
00:15:29that you professionals notice when you see a
00:15:33new unexplored river or some river current or a
00:15:37lake, what's the first thing
00:15:40the first alarm not to enter the water? First,
00:15:44the best, most important thing is to ask a local.
00:15:47Okay, that's what really helps the most, because
00:15:50it's hard to tell, sometimes the river looks calm on the surface, but when
00:15:54you enter it, the current is so strong that you can't
00:15:58stand, no matter if it's 20, 30 cm
00:16:01of water, sometimes it can sweep you away,
00:16:05so the safest option is to ask a local.
00:16:07Look for places where many people are swimming, it's
00:16:10definitely safe there. Now to focus on
00:16:13some expert professional assessments of the terrain,
00:16:17I think that's a bit too much, people don't know that. After heavy rainfall,
00:16:21experts advise against swimming.
00:16:24Why is that? Well, because
00:16:27of these heavy rains,
00:16:30the water level rises, the river level rises. The main reason is, I would say,
00:16:34the main reason is that as soon as the water level rises,
00:16:37it gains speed and strength, it even changes
00:16:41the terrain configuration, its course, so it doesn't mean that if you swam there
00:16:45the day before, the current will be the same after the rain.
00:16:48Mhm, alcohol and swimming, why aren't they a good
00:16:50combination? That's a topic in itself, that
00:16:54alcohol is indeed a problem on rivers, generally in
00:16:57nature people like to relax a bit with a barbecue, a shot of rakija
00:17:01or a beer, but that's bad, especially on these
00:17:05hot summer days. Alcohol
00:17:08accelerates the circulation in our
00:17:11body. This is where
00:17:14these incidents most often occur, as you asked me earlier, when we jump hot into
00:17:17the water, that's what, I would say, promotes these
00:17:21unfortunate events due to
00:17:24the effect of alcohol on our body, besides the fact
00:17:28that people in a tipsy or
00:17:31drunk state distinguish what is good and what is bad, logic is
00:17:35extinguished in every moment.
00:17:38Unfortunately, we were, until recently, witnesses
00:17:43places, activities where alcohol should not be present, such as rafting,
00:17:47where people mm had a habit of
00:17:50bringing a beer or a crate of beer, unfortunately, on
00:17:54the boat, which leads to risky
00:17:57situations. I would, well, take
00:18:00this opportunity, given that an unfortunate accident happened this year
00:18:03during rafting, mm, to
00:18:07draw attention first to the providers of
00:18:10these services, then to people who want to go
00:18:14rafting, to pay attention to a few things.
00:18:17First and foremost, rafting guides
00:18:21must be licensed, trained people,
00:18:24not to use some amateur rafting guides or skippers, as they
00:18:28are popularly called. So, training of rafting guides
00:18:31in the segment of boat management and in the segment of
00:18:34rescue. Secondly, to invest in... equipment, so,
00:18:38those agencies, providers of rafting services must invest in safety
00:18:41equipment according to standards, certificates, homologated equipment
00:18:45that meets that requirement. And thirdly, to
00:18:48respect safety rules, namely, to avoid
00:18:51alcohol, to not just avoid, but to never
00:18:55consume it, and to listen
00:18:57to the instructions, right,
00:19:01of an experienced rafting guide and not to underestimate nature, the environment you are in.
00:19:05Yes, what do parents most often misjudge when their
00:19:09children are in the water? Are armbands, inflatable rings, and other
00:19:12props sufficient protection for non-
00:19:15swimmer children? Well, again, it depends on the environment you are
00:19:18in, the child's age, and so on.
00:19:22What is important, parents should be reminded,
00:19:25if you are in some, whether it is a public
00:19:29swimming area with regulated safety rules, lifeguards, or
00:19:32it is, for example, rafting where there is a rafting
00:19:36guide who is trained for rescue situations, mm,
00:19:40I mean, it's logical that a parent instinctively acts and reacts in
00:19:43a situation when a child is in danger, when they
00:19:46are threatened, right, when they are in danger. What is
00:19:49important to emphasize is that the parent must still remain calm,
00:19:53let the professional do the job. Senad, thank you very much for these
00:19:57recommendations and I hope for more swimming and enjoyment, and less work and
00:20:01spraying. Thank you
00:20:02very much.
00:20:12You were watching New Day , sponsored by
00:20:15Medicana Health Group.
00:20:53just start with this latest meta incident, what happened here? I mean, another day, another
00:20:57AI model doing something it's not supposed to. In this case, Meta just disclosed this
00:21:01evening that during cybersecurity testing, one of its AI models got
00:21:04access to the internet in a way it wasn't supposed to, and it breached into
00:21:08another company's system. The information which first reported this said that the
00:21:12model made changes to the other company's internal system. We don't know which
00:21:15company it is, this is all breaking tonight. Meta says this was a
00:21:20regular, it's an independent testing company that Meta uses to
00:21:24test cybersecurity, test their AI models. And Irregular says
00:21:27there are no current open issues with this and they're actually working on a white paper to
00:21:31share best practices for containment of these AI models.
00:21:35You come on in the morning and scare the hell out of us with all the stuff that's going on. I
00:21:38literally have to ask you, wait a second, this is different than what you've been telling us
00:21:42about with the Anthropic and OpenAI cases. What was going on there? Yeah, I
00:21:46mean, this technology is developing at such a rapid pace that we are getting new
00:21:50information day by day. So, just yesterday, the UK's
00:21:53government AI security institute revealed that during cyber
00:21:56testing of both Anthropic and OpenAI models, they found unsanctioned actions
00:22:00by these models. In the most severe case, one of the models, which was
00:22:04an Anthropic model, wanted to publish malicious code on GitHub, which is
00:22:07essentially the Wikipedia of software code. And in order to
00:22:11try to convince the human editor, they made up several fake identities,
00:22:15several fake accounts to try and get this human editor to publish this malicious
00:22:18code. As part of... that same effort, this AI agent emailed
00:22:22several real people trying to get them to publish or
00:22:26run this malicious code. According to the UK AI security
00:22:29institute, they say this is the first time that they have ever seen deception
00:22:33of this severity that was targeted at a real person unprompted
00:22:36in the real world. They did not tell the models to do this, they were just
00:22:40testing them. Now, to be clear, when they're testing these
00:22:43models, they remove some of their safeguards to be able to test their full
00:22:47capabilities. And the institute does... say that they were
00:22:51unsuccessful in publishing this malicious code and that there was no real-
00:22:54world harm committed, but that's because the human reviewer didn't
00:22:58fall for it. It's like a scammer who tries to pretend to be your bank and tries to get you
00:23:02to do something wrong, but this time it was an AI agent. Yeah, I mean, the news here is they're
00:23:06trying, the machines are trying here. Put this in some context. Yes, so this is the
00:23:10fourth incident in just less than three weeks, just over two weeks
00:23:13of an AI model going rogue. So, on July 21st, OpenAI
00:23:17disclosed that one of its models escaped a testing environment
00:23:20and hacked Hugging Face's system. July 30th, Anthropic,
00:23:24which was actually prompted by the OpenAI disclosure to go back and review its own
00:23:27models, found that, unknowingly to Anthropic, they had no idea this had happened,
00:23:31there were three different incidents where their models also
00:23:35breached other company systems. It didn't so much escape the test environment, but
00:23:39still gained access to the open internet, which it wasn't supposed to. It actually connected to the same
00:23:42company that caused Meta's breach. Yesterday, we get this
00:23:46report out of the UK about AI agents using fake identities to try to...
00:23:50people. And just tonight we have Meta talking about its own breach. And I expect any day
00:23:54we're going to hear from more.

00:24:24Russian military wives get thousands of dollars
00:24:27in compensation if their husbands are killed in
00:24:29action. And officials say ruthless scammers
00:24:33dubbed "black widows" are tricking vulnerable
00:24:36recruits into wedlock.
00:24:40The father of Maria from St. Petersburg died after being shot
00:24:43in Ukraine last year. She told me she only found out her dad had
00:24:47joined the army after he was killed. And then he then did
00:24:51he had new wife? How did you feel when you found
00:24:55out that your dad had got
00:24:57married just days before he went off to
00:25:00war?
00:25:03It felt unreal. When I was being issued the death certificate, they asked if he
00:25:07was married, I said no, but they told me he was. Never
00:25:11ever managed to contact the woman.
00:25:15simply didn't know what to say to her because suspected it was a
00:25:18scam. It's just one
00:25:21suspected case in a growing number,
00:25:24scandalizing Russia. With the war in Ukraine, now in
00:25:28its fifth year and casualty rates at
00:25:31catastrophic highs. It's hard
00:25:34to imagine there are people out there marrying vulnerable
00:25:38men and encouraging them to join the military just so they
00:25:41might financially benefit if they're killed on the front lines.
00:25:45No wonder there's outrage across Russia at the
00:25:48spread of these...
00:26:02She married a soldier 10 days after meeting him, then posted images
00:26:06of herself with other men, was branded a black widow in the Russian
00:26:10media and denied compensation when her husband was
00:26:13killed before their divorce went through. She denied any
00:26:17wrongdoing, saying the allegations had blackened her
00:26:20name.
00:26:22But there's growing public anger at how cynical
00:26:26some Russians have become about the war, the Kremlin calls it
00:26:29special military operation.
00:27:02to the block where her dad's old apartment has now been
00:27:06sold off, convinced he was also scammed out of his
00:27:09home. Do you know who the new owner
00:27:12is?
00:27:15How long, how many years did your dad live here? Five
00:27:18years, this is it, it's
00:27:21open behind the broken
00:27:24door. The new occupants insist it
00:27:28was a legitimate sale and that they never even met the
00:27:31seller.
