00:10:05how do you see the government's approach to this in terms of
00:10:09damage control? The way
00:10:13the Gospić issue was approached, where it was called
00:10:16hysteria, now the approach has changed a little, so, I
00:10:20don't know, I expected in July.
00:10:23Uh,
00:10:26a government session on this topic,
00:10:30immediately proposals for measures, immediately securing
00:10:33funds, immediately for something to start
00:10:36happening there, so no one has seriously
00:10:39this scratched with a shovel and
00:10:43taken something away. Uh, so I somewhat
00:10:47expected a much, much greater
00:10:49seriousness
00:10:52in approaching this problem. and remediation of that
00:10:56problem. So, I expected that
00:10:58the government would create a feeling
00:11:02among citizens that now that all this has happened
00:11:05as it has, that it will immediately take
00:11:08measures, create a sense
00:11:12of security. Instead, an even
00:11:15greater sense of insecurity was created.
00:11:19There were protests, citizens
00:11:22clearly gave a warning. And that's something that
00:11:26, well, we have. The rains have started,
00:11:29autumn is coming.
00:11:32Uh, nothing is covered,
00:11:34and
00:11:37indeed the question arises, where will this go, where will
00:11:41it end? In Europe, where there were similar
00:11:44examples, it was
00:11:47remedied for decades, it cost
00:11:51a terrible amount. Uh, I
00:11:55expected that uh, the government would react
00:11:58much faster, that it would react
00:12:01operationally immediately, but somehow
00:12:04it either we don't have the right
00:12:07information, again, if
00:12:11now from me
00:12:11speaks
00:12:15a concerned citizen, a concerned woman, then
00:12:19nothing has been done to calm
00:12:22that fear. Nothing
00:12:25serious, nothing concrete except verbally, that's not
00:12:28enough. In parallel, we have the opposition, which on
00:12:32the one hand, uh, actually the Most party was
00:12:36very active from the very beginning. Uh, what
00:12:39we somewhat perhaps expected in the Republic of Croatia, that
00:12:43this opposition, left, right, from all across the spectrum,
00:12:46might unite around such an issue, which showed, for example, that
00:12:50the protest united citizens from across the
00:12:53spectrum. Mm... That did not happen when the opposition is
00:12:57concerned. Uh, I think that
00:13:00now it somehow opens, opens
00:13:03space and more and more it's, in fact, as we have
00:13:06passed half, uh, and as we approach
00:13:10the middle of the mandate, that somehow all
00:13:13this is moving into a serious
00:13:17uh, serious battle, everyone for their votes.
00:13:21How it will look in the end,
00:13:24I really... I really don't know, but the opposition showed that it is not united
00:13:28even on this, even on this case on which it definitely could
00:13:31have been united. One more question related to Croatia,
00:13:35the government, or the Ministry of Justice last
00:13:39week, uh, amendments to the criminal code are introducing
00:13:42life imprisonment, ecocide is included as one
00:13:46of, one of the elements that can be
00:13:49punishable. How do you comment on that moment?
00:13:52We talked a lot. right after that case in Drniš, and actually these
00:13:55are some kind of consequences of that case. Yes, so,
00:13:59I still claim
00:14:02that nothing will fundamentally change there. The
00:14:05prison sentence is life, but it was 40
00:14:09years for such criminal acts, serious, the most serious criminal
00:14:12acts. What's the difference? So
00:14:15it's not a question of imposing sentences, and there we are, we are
00:14:19, I don't know, perfect, it's been done that way for years, as soon as
00:14:22an incident happens, let's raise penalties, and... no one
00:14:25imposes them. So that's the problem. I'll have to
00:14:29interrupt you briefly now, because the government session is starting. Let's go to the introductory
00:14:33speech of the Prime Minister. Just then we'll return to our

00:14:38introductory remarks, before we
00:14:41move on to the agenda items. First, let

00:14:47participating in the current morning session at the
00:14:51beginning of the new session of the Croatian Parliament

00:14:59questions and tried to present to our
00:15:03citizens everything that is relevant regarding
00:15:06the work of the Croatian government. As was
00:15:09expected, the main topic was
00:15:12the situation related to waste in
00:15:15Gospić. From the opposition, we heard
00:15:18the usual politicking
00:15:21attempts for some daily political
00:15:25battles with plenty of fear-mongering, disinformation, and
00:15:29equally
00:15:32manipulation when it comes to the answers
00:15:35of our members of the government. However,
00:15:39what is important is that we clearly told the Croatian
00:15:42public that the waste problem exists, uh,
00:15:46those who caused it will be held criminally
00:15:50responsible. The health situation
00:15:52regarding the correctness of water in the public
00:15:55water supply system in Ulica
00:15:58is good, and the water is correct and can be drunk, unlike
00:16:02the publicly stated opinions of some
00:16:05opposition representatives,
00:16:07who, it is quite clear from their
00:16:11appearances, are in possession of information
00:16:14and knowledge that only those involved in criminal
00:16:18proceedings can know, unlike, for example, members of the government who do not
00:16:21know such information. But it's good that
00:16:24the Croatian public hears and sees this, because
00:16:27it is very indicative, it is not the first time when it comes to
00:16:31some actors. Also,
00:16:35uh, we heard, especially from Minister
00:16:38Vučković, a very clear plan
00:16:41for removing non-hazardous waste, upcoming decisions
00:16:45on the removal of scattered hazardous waste,
00:16:48a remediation plan for buried waste, as
00:16:51well as during the remediation of buried
00:16:55waste, covering the area at
00:16:58the former PPK Velebit perimeter.
00:17:02In any case, what is important
00:17:05is that the government and its competent authorities are
00:17:08engaged in solving the problem, solving it
00:17:11calmly, truthfully, without spreading panic,
00:17:15and in a way that, of course,
00:17:19is in accordance with professional rules, but
00:17:22with an agile approach that will
00:17:25lead to a solution, thereby
00:17:29reducing these tensions that exist among
00:17:32our citizens, which we understand, which
00:17:35we comprehend. However, it is one thing to express
00:17:38concern and another to spread false
00:17:41information. These are, after all, two significantly
00:17:44different some opposition
00:17:47actors are focusing on the
00:17:50latter. In that regard, I want to mention that
00:17:54yesterday in Karlovac County a waste management center
00:17:58was opened, location Babina Gora,
00:18:01an investment worth 80 million euros, according
00:18:04to the highest ecological standards. This
00:18:07center will cover the area for
00:18:10waste management of Karlovac County,
00:18:13parts of Lika-Senj County, parts of Sisak-Moslavina
00:18:17County, for the needs of about 130,000
00:18:20inhabitants, seven cities, 22 municipalities,
00:18:23with a capacity of almost 30,000
00:18:26tons of mixed municipal waste
00:18:29annually. And by putting it into
00:18:32operation, prerequisites are created for
00:18:35closing five existing landfills in the area
00:18:39of the project.
00:18:42Also, great strides in terms of reconstruction in
00:18:45the city of Zagreb, university infrastructure.
00:18:49Yesterday and today we were at the opening of
00:18:52two buildings of the Faculty of Law, one in
00:18:55Cyril and Methodius Street in Gornji Grad, the other in
00:18:59Nazorova Street, where the study of social work is.
00:19:03After the faculty building at Republic of Croatia Square
00:19:063, these two buildings are completely, constructively,
00:19:10completely renovated. And the one in Gornji Grad is
00:19:13the Erdödy-Keglević Palace from the 17th century, one
00:19:17of the most beautiful palaces and buildings in Gornji Grad,
00:19:21which has now shone in its full glory with plenty of
00:19:25frescoes that could not be seen before. And I thank
00:19:29the restorers who truly did
00:19:32a magnificent job. Of course, all contractors, the faculty management
00:19:36for their engagement. And thanks to the staff and students
00:19:39for their patience while the renovation lasted. These
00:19:43two projects, Cyril and Methodius and Nazorova, 17 million
00:19:47euros. Of course, the renovation of
00:19:50the most important building, the building at Republic of Croatia Square
00:19:5414, the seat of the university and the flagship
00:19:57of the Faculty of Law, is also underway.
00:20:00I remind you, this morning, just before the government session,
00:20:04we were here nearby at the Faculty of
00:20:07Electrical Engineering and Computing,
00:20:10renovated and completely furnished buildings B and C,
00:20:14a project worth 70.3
00:20:17million euros, renovated more than
00:20:1920,000 square meters of space,
00:20:23beautiful conditions for work

00:20:31400 students. We want this kind of high-quality

00:20:56Minister Bačić will submit a new report, but
00:20:59almost 5 billion and 200 million euros, over three
00:21:03billion euros for the Zagreb earthquake, over two billion euros for
00:21:06the Petrinja earthquake, these are incredibly
00:21:10large and demanding projects and huge
00:21:12investments. This morning, the government also made a decision at a
00:21:16telephone session of the government, after I spoke with
00:21:20the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers, Ms. Borjana

00:28:27practically legalizes a war
00:28:31criminal who was convicted. A legally convicted war
00:28:34criminal sentenced to life imprisonment, to have him legalized,

00:28:40government, and after him the entire
00:28:43uh state policy,
00:28:47uh, not to mention the church, so the values
00:28:50of the church, that man was convicted of war
00:28:54crimes, of genocide.

00:29:07terrifying for the civilization in

00:29:11and
00:29:15in my opinion, Croatia

00:29:28the mildest ambassador for an interview,
00:29:31the Serbian ambassador for an interview, let alone
00:29:35do anything further, as Bosnia and
00:29:39Herzegovina did.
00:29:41So, it's as if nothing happened in our
00:29:43lives, as if there was no war
00:29:47in Croatia, as if we did not experience
00:29:50aggression from that same Mladić, from
