00:00:00that we are, our refineries do not operate to the full capacity
00:00:04because they are unable to sell furness
00:00:07oil,
00:00:10in of so furnass oil, i would very strongly - that
00:00:14of in a of war like situation in which we are and in serious
00:00:17of economic constraints, we should seriously take a bold
00:00:26seriously take a bold step in
00:00:31optimum
00:00:32of use of furness
00:00:33of oil in our power plants so that the LNG which
00:00:37is obviously all imported is is is
00:00:41is could be
00:00:42of replaced by ferness island you will immediately come up
00:00:45with thank you so much for joining us and for telling
00:00:49us the measures
00:00:50in and the kind of alignment that Pakistan needs right now in the kind of pressure that is
00:00:54very unprecedented not just for the world but for Pakistan as well this was
00:00:58Mr. Mohammad are former member of Thank you so much sir for joining, ladies and
00:01:01gentlemen, with that we take you to the second segment of our program, which is of course about the US
00:01:05and Iran situation, it is been volatile, the straight of homos is
00:01:09under pressure and lots of other developmental things
00:01:13that we are looking at, we've been joined by Dr. Carl, Calton Tenner,
00:01:17political analyst from Ohio, thank you so much Dr. Carl for joining
00:01:26looking at the US and Iran situation, we know that there was about to be
00:01:30an agreement between Iran and Gulf countries and
00:01:33that has been stalled, how serious of
00:01:38of a diplomatic setback is it that we are looking at in the current
00:01:40situation? I would say very serious,
00:01:44given the fact that the Hutis have made
00:01:48real inroads of taking serious strategically important territory in
00:01:52Yemen, this is huge problem for Saudi
00:01:54Arabia, um, it's it's also huge problem for
00:01:58for a good chunk
00:01:59of the world. that this now
00:02:03of could threaten shipping through the red sea
00:02:07and once again put pressure
00:02:09of on oil prices we saw when the territory that the oil
00:02:13markets reacted pretty drastically so i
00:02:16think unless there's some kind of
00:02:18major breakthrough
00:02:21between
00:02:22the hoothies and the saudis i think the chances of peace
00:02:25between the Iranians and the other gulf
00:02:28states is is not
00:02:30of eminent
00:02:33of right sir, could you also since you actually thought up
00:02:37hutis, could you also speak to the fact that for 10 years
00:02:41they have been struggling to you maintain their
00:02:44foothold and all of
00:02:46in sudden it seems that their expansion is
00:02:50you know really really getting a boost, where are
00:02:54they getting money and resources from, because Iran we
00:02:58are told is badly cashed. so who else it might be
00:03:02supporting? well, the hoothies tax the
00:03:05population that they control, that's not a very wealthy
00:03:09population though, thes are talking about doing the same thing
00:03:13the Iranians do in the straight off moves, which
00:03:17a is asking ships to go through the territory that they
00:03:21of of control to pay tols, but how are these getting money
00:03:24of now? good question,
00:03:26i don't think they're getting money directly from the Chinese or the Russians.
00:03:30so they do get different forms of support from the Russians
00:03:34and the Chinese. I think they
00:03:37they are using the resources that they have. This
00:03:40breakthrough that we saw was not really a consequence of
00:03:44sudden surge of support from the outside. It was
00:03:47more the fact that the hoothies used relatively
00:03:51simple technology um such
00:03:54of as drones that, not really very
00:03:58sophisticated, but that would drop. munitions top of
00:04:02armor
00:04:03of um that the the internationally back government in Yemen
00:04:07had,
00:04:07you know, there's lots of video evidence to that, so this this is almost like the Houti's learn
00:04:11lessons from the Ukrainians and just made major break though, I
00:04:15think they caught the yemeni government forces kind of
00:04:19flat-footed, and one
00:04:21of the things that we see in war sometimes is that when you have
00:04:25initial break through
00:04:27of the rest
00:04:27of the the military units. to panic and
00:04:31flee, so we saw this, lot of equipment left
00:04:34on the ground that it's simply been abandoned by these uni
00:04:37forces, right? dr. kal, with
00:04:41commercial shipping being totally disrupted, we have been talking about the straight
00:04:45of hormers as well, just not that the red sea, the seizure
00:04:48of the island from these hoothies, oil prices
00:04:52remain high and you know is iran effectively
00:04:56using this
00:04:57of control over the state of homers or even the hot? control island
00:05:00as economic leverage right now in the US Iran
00:05:04battle or war? absolutely, absolutely. this
00:05:08situation that that has occurred in Yemen is
00:05:12kind of a... nightmare scenario for Donald Trump uh, well for the United
00:05:15States in general, because now the Iranians have so much more
00:05:19leverage than they did prior, and they had significant leverage with just the straight of
00:05:23four moves, despite all the efforts on the part the United
00:05:27States to break that leverage, targeted
00:05:30strikes going after launch points uh in Iran that could
00:05:34hit shipping in the straight of hormoves, but now with
00:05:38the situation in Yemen, there there's kind of two points that are
00:05:42now. controlled by pro Iranian forces
00:05:45and so
00:05:47the the bargaining situation for the United States has
00:05:51deteriorated substantially because saying
00:05:55well the Iranians are begging us to
00:05:57negotiate um the Iranians may be saying hey now do you want to
00:06:01negotiate with us and and get serious about our
00:06:05terms um this this is very very
00:06:09difficult situation
00:06:10for the United States it's a very difficult. situation for Donald Trump
00:06:14as the midterms approach and he
00:06:17really has significant
00:06:21concerns that the house of
00:06:23representatives, probably not the senate, but the house of representatives
00:06:27will go democrat, and then that creates a whole different political
00:06:30situation from him, this this war hangs around his
00:06:33neck like very heavy
00:06:35weight, right? Dr. Karl, also we know
00:06:39that Saudi Arabia is under pressure as well, their husband.
00:06:42Saudi cities towards the south which have been attacked
00:06:46by Hotis, there have been fresh launch of attacks through wave of
00:06:50missiles and drone as well, and there have been civilian
00:06:54injuries as well, does it mean that the US and Iran conflict
00:06:57is now creating a new kind of situation where Saudi Arabia's
00:07:01security is in crisis because civilians have been injured
00:07:05and infrastructure as well, yeah I mean this this
00:07:09war with Iran seems to spawned another.
00:07:13i don't
00:07:13really wrap up
00:07:14this this war in the Iranian war, but it's it's a
00:07:18consequence
00:07:18in some ways the Iranian
00:07:22war. i don't think we would have seen this had it not been for the
00:07:26US attacks on Iran and
00:07:28in the subsequent war. this is major
00:07:31major problem for Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia does
00:07:35not want to fight another war in Yemen does not want to see its cities
00:07:39under attack.
00:07:41This is kind of a... almost the worst case scenario,
00:07:45and one the things that's important, Saudi Arabia asked the United States for help,
00:07:49the United States said no, so why did the United States say no
00:07:52to major ally asking for military
00:07:56help? um, I think it's political, I think
00:08:00Donald Trump doesn't want to open another front in the United States and get
00:08:04accused of creating yet another forever war,
00:08:07so this this has all kinds of ramifications, the Saudi
00:08:10Arabia, look at the... United States as a
00:08:14strong ally is someone they can turn to in times of
00:08:17crisis. I think this may be
00:08:20another point where the Saudis say, "I don't know if we can really trust the
00:08:24American security guarantees." Maybe maybe the
00:08:28Saudis then start to turn to others uh potentially China,
00:08:32Russia.
00:08:32I mean this is one the big concerns for the United States that Saudi Arabia starts to
00:08:36pivot more towards those countries. Right,
00:08:39regarding,
00:08:41you know, I understand. your your take on this, but
00:08:44regarding perspective of Iran, it is
00:08:48astounding that the countries that actually
00:08:51were leading lights in attacking, they are hardly coming under
00:08:55attack now, it seems that is rile is not
00:08:58being attacked at all, similarly UAE,
00:09:02which was very close to you, is a trial, that
00:09:06also seem to be you know free of any attack, but
00:09:09countries which was sympathetic to a trans like Saudi
00:09:13Arabia, which refused to be a part the war, it
00:09:17is coming under war. what do you make of
00:09:20it? is there some kind of taset agreement between
00:09:24Telaviv and Tehran for that matter, something else is
00:09:28going on? I doubt there's a tasset
00:09:32agreement, that's not to say that I have any
00:09:35kind of access to information that would indicate one
00:09:39way or the other, but I doubt there's a tasset agreement between. Iran and
00:09:42Israel, I think both sides would are are
00:09:45basically um dealing with other issues
00:09:49right now,
00:09:50I mean Iranians don't want to antagonize the
00:09:54Israelis and and bring another wave of attacks from the Israelis,
00:09:58in order the Israelis want to deal with more attacks on
00:10:02Israel right, or excuse me on Iran right now, given that they're dealing
00:10:06with Lebanon given that they're dealing with lot of domestic political issues, there's an
00:10:10upcoming election, and uh few weeks
00:10:14in in Israel, so uh, I don't if I
00:10:18call it tacid agreement, I think that both sides just don't have incentive to attack
00:10:22each other right now, Saudi Arabia, on the other
00:10:25hand um is very important because
00:10:29not just
00:10:30you know is is Saudi Arabia the enemy the
00:10:34huties which is major ally for Iran
00:10:37uh if if the Iranians can disrupt oil
00:10:41markets and put more pressure on the United States
00:10:44economically that's a huge win and that's exactly what's
00:10:48happening so I think the Iranians are
00:10:51strategic I think they've always been strategic.
00:10:55um, this is not just, who do I like more than who do I not
00:10:59like, I think this is got to do with a broader strategy the Iranians
00:11:03have of of basically engaging economic
00:11:06warfare against the United States, just as the United States is engaging
00:11:10economic warfare against the Iranians,
00:11:13right? Dr. Karl, since we are witnessing another
00:11:17layer, another dimension, every single day, adding conflict, making it
00:11:21an expanded conflict, and we fear so many things. from
00:11:25oil disruptions to the global trade and so many things, but what is the point
00:11:29where it stops and
00:11:31you know can this conflict be really contained talking realistically? and
00:11:34could you, do you see any of ramp at all
00:11:37sir?
00:11:41that's a that's a really difficult question to answer because to a
00:11:45degree it requires me to predict Donald
00:11:49Trump's policy, which is very hard to
00:11:52do um... "I think for the
00:11:56Iranians they would like this to end, but at the same point they're not
00:12:00going to give up on their control the straight
00:12:03of hor moves or negotiate away the Houti's
00:12:07position in Yemen, for them, those those are ways to
00:12:11to to basically deter further attacks
00:12:15and that's what the Iranians would like to do, they'd like to
00:12:18reestablish deterrents, so the United States and
00:12:22Israel doesn't attack them anymore." so for
00:12:26them, going on the off-ramp now doesn't
00:12:30really make lot of sense, they need to, they need to really
00:12:33solidify their control over the things that they have that gives
00:12:37them that deterrant into the future. for Donald Trump,
00:12:41this war is a political loser, it
00:12:45is the most unpopular war that we've seen in in
00:12:49American history since we've been doing opinion polling, very unpopular,
00:12:53very unpopular even among.
00:12:55republicans, having said that, he
00:12:58doesn't want to appear weak. I mean, this is one of Donald Trump's
00:13:01biggest fears is that he looks like he's surrendering, he
00:13:05looks like he's weak, and
00:13:09you know, unfortunately
00:13:11for him, uh, he's not in a position to just say, okay, we're
00:13:15done, if the Iranians control a straight of
00:13:18formus, um, he's kind of said, well, I'm not going to care
00:13:22about what goes over on, what happens over in Yemen and the... sea
00:13:25area, but the straight of all moves, he can't just walk away from
00:13:29that, um, because people will hold him accountable for
00:13:32it, somehow has to create a
00:13:35situation where the Iranians don't control the straight,
00:13:38absolutely, Dr. Karl, we really get your point that
00:13:42it is very difficult situation to be in for both these countries with the strategy
00:13:46the US or Iranian, and thank you so very much for you, sharing
00:13:50your opinion and perspective in detail regarding not just the strategies, but of
00:13:53course your views. on the current situation that we see every day regarding
00:13:57US and Iran. This was Dr. Karl Canton Teller, political analyst
00:14:01joining us from Ohio. We really thank you for your time. Ladies and gentlemen, with
00:14:05that we move to the third segment of our program. We know that one year has
00:14:09been completed. Pakistan TV has uh marked this one
00:14:13year with one single goal and that has been really uh
00:14:16presenting Pakistan's perspective, Pakistan's story to the rest the world, just
00:14:20not that it has achieved so much in this one year. We have Faruk
00:14:23Pafi. How do you see this remarkable journey of
00:14:27Pakistan TVs one year? Thank you very much. I
00:14:31think before I actually talk about this very important
00:14:34relaunch or this launch of Pakistan TV, one has to
00:14:38actually remind everybody that I have been associated with the English
00:14:42television channel of Pakistan PTV for that
00:14:46matter for you quite a long time since
00:14:50it's very start. So when it was conceived first in
00:14:542013? "you know initially there was some boost,
00:14:58but then everything kept on going by default, so
00:15:02whatever content we were generating was by default, and there was
00:15:06hardly any energy, any kind of global
00:15:09reach or focus, right? then comes this
00:15:13project and same resources, few more people,
00:15:16and then they have actually literally transformed the
00:15:20whole persona the channel of project, that is not
00:15:24all."
00:15:25the kind of guests you have, the kind of coverages you have, the kind of
00:15:28approach you have, usually
00:15:31you know with PTV is access, it used to be PTV used to be
00:15:35the last person to speak. any public
00:15:39event and would be actually the last sitting man in
00:15:43the event, but then we got the new leadership and
00:15:47we got the new project and we have seen that PTV
00:15:50uh Pakistan TV has been actually leading from the front
00:15:54and most the news that is created or it is
00:15:58happening in Pakistan or is related to Pakistan, for
00:16:02example even in the west when negotiations were taking
00:16:05place it
00:16:07was through... Pakistan tv spetism its
00:16:10eyes that the world was seeing the whole development,
00:16:14so Pakistan television has revolutionized the
00:16:18way our English media was working and I think that
00:16:22even though now they have few more private
00:16:26channels, English channels, but the way Pakistan
00:16:29television actually covers this, the story
00:16:33is you know unmatched by anybody else, absolutely far can
00:16:37just not... the point that we are not just limited to television
00:16:40screens as well, in this era of social media and so much
00:16:43fabricated stories, how well do you see Pakistan TV has
00:16:47really comes to fact checking, when it comes to realistically
00:16:51giving away the stories, whatever the reporting or the events that you were
00:16:55mentioning, and then making its mark on the social media, adding millions of
00:16:59viewers across the globe, how big of an achievement is
00:17:02that for Pakistan TV? again, when
00:17:06when the the... this iteration was actually
00:17:09happening when it was going on, usually
00:17:13everything would be actually focused on the screen,
00:17:17nothing else, right? and along comes Pakistan
00:17:20television, Pakistan TV, and then what we start
00:17:24seeing is also a focus on social media, but
00:17:27then remember that when something is
00:17:30contrafted intelligently, it also shows
00:17:34on social media as well. I can go on for. hours
00:17:38talking about nothing or I can actually use five minute
00:17:42spot quite effectively right, so when you
00:17:46start packaging properly, the reach encourages and the
00:17:50appeal encourages and this is exactly what we have seen,
00:17:54pakistan, Pakistan TV has
00:17:57actually outpaced anything else
00:18:00reaching somewhere around 500 million
00:18:04you know views and likes and that is something. which
00:18:08is really laudible, I think that right now we
00:18:11realize that we have to be on every platform and we have
00:18:15to reach everybody who who is ready to listen to our
00:18:19perspective. It is very important, as you pointed out that
00:18:23we are living a post truth society, global
00:18:26society, there everybody thinks that they are not
00:18:30entitled to the their opinions, but their
00:18:34facts also, so it is very important to correct. all the
00:18:37facts and keep on checking facts as well, so that we also
00:18:41do and for not to forget something very important,
00:18:45you not really was an achievement when I heard it for the first time, it was the way
00:18:49I was being told Jazira mentioned, there are so many instances
00:18:53where international channels has, they have referred to our channel when it comes
00:18:57to Pakistan's narrative, so what actually changed in the strategy you were
00:19:01talking about the strategy the new leadership as well and how well are we presenting the
00:19:05geopolitical vision when it comes to that? just actually
00:19:09carry out a small small experiment, you
00:19:12know PTV worlds videos are also
00:19:16available online right, just go watch them and then see
00:19:20what kind of content we have produced now, so
00:19:23every aspect of a communication has to be
00:19:27optimized, screen has to be optimized, the text has to
00:19:31be optimized, the the voice and images have to be
00:19:35optimized and this is exactly. what we have done
00:19:38once you actually start creating news,
00:19:42focusing on news, then it becomes
00:19:45quite easy for other channels also to
00:19:48reference or showcase your work. you you mentioned
00:19:52al-jazira, think i can you know
00:19:55include all sorts of international channels that have actually
00:19:59bted from pakistan tv and the content has been
00:20:03mentioned repeatedly, so that that
00:20:06again uh... is a proof that we have the kind of
00:20:10credibility that perhaps for a long time we were
00:20:14liking because there was hardly any focus on the
00:20:17kind of optimization of content that is going on right
00:20:21now absolutely far and when you were about the communication strategy i
00:20:25was just wondering there is so much competition out there when you
00:20:29specifically talk about short video formats when you talk about the visual you
00:20:33know storytelling and there needs to be an attraction in the visual.
00:20:37front as well, just just not the voices, just not the content,
00:20:40so how have you seen since you were the part of PTV world as well, how have
00:20:44you seen the transformation when it comes to the communication strategy? I
00:20:48think that the... "actual revolution has come in
00:20:52understanding the nature of every medium, every platform, in
00:20:56the past it wasn't the case, as you pointed out, there are a
00:20:59platform like tiktok or for that matter,
00:21:02you know various other like insta where you need a very short
00:21:06critisk kind of
00:21:07you take, and we were not doing that, what we were doing
00:21:11was you know cutting out chunks of talk shows and just
00:21:15publishing them right, all of sudden every platform
00:21:19mattered." because remember that half the world
00:21:23is watching everything through mobile phones, so who holds a
00:21:26mobile phone horizontally or vertically is also important, you
00:21:30have to remember the nature the platform, and this is
00:21:34exactly what we are doing, we are coming to you through
00:21:38every platform that you prefer a manner that you
00:21:41prefer rather than actually forcing our own
00:21:45choices upon conventional designs. thank you very much f
00:21:48with fafi for being part of our show. Ladies and gentlemen, we the one year of Pakistan's
00:21:52TV's successful journey, the way it has come along and the way it has
00:21:56covered events with a stronger voice, with
00:21:58a stronger global presence, with a stronger impact and
00:22:01of course with growing global audience as well. We hope that this journey
00:22:05continues with credible news and of course the credible reportings that we have been
00:22:08giving you since one year, and uh this was the end of our show, we
00:22:12conclude the show here right now, this is Mahinja for signing off, stay tuned to
00:22:16Pakistan TV.
00:22:46From the heart of South Asia to the cross roads of central Asia. from the turbulent middle
00:22:50east and north africa to the power corridors the west. i think
00:22:54that the proxy situation is very
00:22:57problematic uh for the
00:23:01US, for Israel, for around, the gulf
00:23:05states, for the world at large. this
00:23:09conflict could expand. that's what Pakistan and
00:23:13Katar are trying to prevent. Israel wants the
00:23:17land of Palestine without the Palestinian people. "and that is
00:23:20why we see the situation in
00:23:24Gaza being getting getting worse. Field
00:23:28Marshall Muneer and Oman have have kept the channel open when nothing else was working, and that
00:23:32matters. And of course the cease fire came through Islamabad.
00:23:35Gender persecution is already a crime against humanity under the
00:23:39Rome statute, and the international criminal court has
00:23:43issued arrest warrants for the two top taliban
00:23:47leaders. And Sheikhkani." "who is the
00:23:50chief justice? I suspect that the Canadians
00:23:54are going to pressure on areas that will cause lot of
00:23:58discomfort to the Americans as they're coming into the midterm
00:24:02elections in November. Iran's declaration that does
00:24:06not intend to produce a nuclear weapon is
00:24:09politically relevant, but declarations alone cannot
00:24:13resolves the security dilemma. Iran has always said it's prepared to
00:24:17continue the conflict, but it's clear that it's pr'. says for this war to
00:24:21end, the US and the Trump administration I think is the same, so there is
00:24:24alignment, but obviously the problem has been, how we get
00:24:28there,
00:24:50the one assessment that used to take like a week now can be done in 10
00:24:54minutes and unfortunately I think there's a
00:24:58possibility that some of Modi's advisers are saying
00:25:02that is what India must do and therefore India has to look to the
00:25:31it had the credibility of a strong nation, it had the
00:25:35credibility of neutrality that both parties could trust, and above
00:25:38all Pakistan was and is legitimate
00:26:02geography is very strategic, very important, it connects
00:26:06multiple regions. we are a higher platform, a higher
00:26:09pedestal. this new phase in which we are now a
00:26:13mutual defense agreement brings together two the
00:26:17muslim world's strongest militaries and military capabilities
00:26:21which are pakistan and turkey. gaza situation is
00:26:24even more perturbing and it doesn't seem that
00:26:28mean the the current sort of Israeli action. there
00:26:32i mean they are not willing to relinquish sort the
00:26:36territory that they have occupied, if President Trump
00:26:39is able to get this kind of this this armment to take place in
00:26:43in in in Gaza uh this would be huge victory for
00:26:47him, but it's a matter of bringing bringing the Israeli
00:26:50Israel particularly to the table
00:26:52who who's already rejected this kind of us back road map, the fact that the Israeli
00:26:56military and government and militia and illegal
00:26:59settlers are kind of collaborating to take Kuwait these lands
00:27:03and occupy them and settle them with Israelis. These
00:27:07deployments are very demanding, both on the equipment and on the
00:27:10crew. There are uh roughly 4,800
00:27:14personnel aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln if you include the ship's crew
00:27:18and the air wing um and they have been at sea now
00:27:22for uh nine months continuously. Iran tends to
00:27:25play the game, what we say, they continue the dance. The United States wants
00:27:29a ring to come to the table and they're making concessions to get. come to the table and
00:27:33Aron's making demands for additional concessions to get to the
00:27:37table.
