00:10:40ownership of Greenland because the national
00:10:44security concerns. also, what Greenland's
00:10:48prime minister has said that he was pleased with the proposed deal, the
00:10:51agreement recognizes the sovereignty and the territorial integrity. of our
00:10:55kingdom and the right the greenlandic people to self
00:10:59determination. At the same time, the foreign minister of Denmark
00:11:02says next week could be a good week for Greenland, Denmark
00:11:06and the US. A time of uncertainity will hopefully give way to
00:11:10binding agreement that strengthens security in the Arctic
00:11:14and the North Atlantic and thereby our shared security within the
00:11:18NATO Europe while respecting the Danish
00:11:21kingdom's red lines. At the same time. nato
00:11:25has welcomed this agreement. wel try
00:11:29to understand what does that agreement actually signified,

00:13:17the this area is still part the kingdom of Denmark
00:13:20and the fact that the both these allies have sorted out
00:13:24there. is certainly a welcome development for the
00:13:28world and and the significance of
00:13:30it is that they are also going to be signing it during the UN general
00:13:34assembly session which is going to be held in New York just in
00:13:38few days which is it also has a
00:13:41significant symbolic significance so when i
00:13:45think win for all the parties
00:13:52specifically talk about this is feat of
00:13:56diplomacy that has been achieved, of course there hasn't been any confrontation, of
00:13:59course the friction went to a certain extent with those statements
00:14:03already coming from President Trump himself regarding taking ownership
00:14:07of Greenland that actually saw the inter relationship

00:14:14this agreement is feat of diplomacy, we have seen

00:16:45happy, so I think that is in itself is a
00:16:49win for for peace and and for the prospects of
00:16:53diplomacy going forward,
00:17:00became so much important for President Trump's
00:17:03administration that he gave out the statements of even
00:17:07going. out and taking the ownership of Greenland,
00:17:11he cited the national security concerns and also
00:17:14referring to China and Russia perhaps
00:17:17having their trade
00:17:21roots from there as well, so in that particular regard is it only the national
00:17:25security concern or do you cite any other
00:17:29motivations or reasons behind Trump's administration
00:17:33becoming so keen in
00:17:38"you have to remember there
00:17:40is already an existing agreement between the United States and Denmark which they
00:17:43signed in 1951 which governs the deployment the
00:17:47US military in Greenland and during the cold war there were lot
00:17:51of US bases and in Greenland which
00:17:55US after the end the cold world
00:17:58decreased but today there is one active
00:18:01base see the thing is that from the US
00:18:05perspective I think we
00:18:07have to under" stand a long term
00:18:10security situation how it is evolving, although Greenland is
00:18:14part of Denmark but it is located in North America
00:18:18and it it is very close to
00:18:20Canada
00:18:22so this is a unique situation in that regard and there is
00:18:26also a demand in Greenland which
00:18:29it is a population of around 50 / 5000 that the majority
00:18:33the population want independence actually from
00:18:37Denmark and they are bulk the
00:18:41population is native Greenlandic population which is
00:18:45closed to Native Americans actually, so but
00:18:49but the reason that they have not gone for independence is up
00:18:53till now because it's a very large territory and
00:18:57with the 50000 population it's very difficult to
00:19:00establish an independent state and
00:19:02a viable economy, even today
00:19:05the the government of Denmark. heavily subsidizes the
00:19:09welfare and the administration of of government of of
00:19:13Greenland, so so economically as of
00:19:17today
00:19:18it is not possible for Greenland to have an independent
00:19:22act as an independent state, but the sentiment is there, so I
00:19:25think from the US perspective, it was also important
00:19:29consideration that who knows where the future
00:19:33would go, and and because the Danish Parliament also
00:19:36passed. few years back giving this right to government
00:19:40of to the people of Denmark, people of Greenland that they
00:19:44can decide their future if they want to go their own
00:19:48way, so I think
00:19:50and and and we also know that with the this climate
00:19:53change, there is a melting of ice and and
00:19:56different and there is a possibility of emergence of
00:20:00new maritime roots and the arctic
00:20:04region will become very very important in that regard, there will be increased
00:20:07maritime traffic through this area and greenland is
00:20:11also believed to have a large deposits of minerals and and
00:20:15lot these minerals are very important
00:20:18for ingredients in the
00:20:22manufacturing of very sensitive and high tech
00:20:25equipment so all although many large
00:20:28deposits are still to be extracted because the infrastructure in
00:20:32Greenland is not there so certainly the US perspective
00:20:36in this regard is a long term one, so they
00:20:39although they have a presence there and Denmark
00:20:43and United States are close allies, but I think the
00:20:46United States administration wanted to take was
00:20:50looking at things from the long term perspective as there are different
00:20:53geostrategic changes going on in the world so there
00:20:57so given that it is part the American
00:21:01continent they wanted to ensure the continuity their
00:21:05rights in the more effective manner and I think this agreement whose details
00:21:09are yet to be released publically and shows
00:21:11and addresses that their concerns
00:21:15by having an agreement which
00:21:20is those
00:21:29of us interest when it comes to large deposits of rare
00:21:33earth minerals and other mineral resources, also
00:21:37Washington trying to reduce its dependence on China
00:21:40in that particular regard, also as you already mentioned with the
00:21:44emergence of new maritime roots, do we
00:21:48understand in the future, keeping in view both
00:21:51China and Russia with the emergence these new
00:21:55maritime roots, Greenland might become a new
00:21:59theater the great power
00:22:08happening anywhere, we know that with with the
00:22:11world balance of power changing as the power is
00:22:14shifting towards Asia and as the economic
00:22:18power countries are gaining weight,
00:22:21you know, there is also rivalry increasing in
00:22:25that region, so certainly
00:22:27you know as the economic activity in this any any
00:22:31area increases, the risk the military
00:22:34concentration also increases, because the countries move forward
00:22:38to or take steps to further enhance their economic
00:22:42interest and ensure try to ensure that their economic interest are you
00:22:46know enhanced through military means also and and so that they
00:22:50can protect their interest you know a more effective
00:22:58what do Denmark and Greenland get in return
00:23:01once president Trump says that an
00:23:04agreement, according
00:23:06to which the US would have a complete control and a
00:23:10permanent control of Greenland's security, so there must be
00:23:14an agreement, there must be some sort of a thing
00:23:17which would be in favor of Greenland. and Denmark,
00:23:21what ideally could be the key takeaways for
00:23:35since the war in Ukraine, this
00:23:38and and the announcement by the US administration that that
00:23:42they might be cutting some troops going forward and they
00:23:46have
00:23:46been asking the their NATO members of Europe. increase
00:23:50their defense budget and so that they become more
00:23:53self-reliant in defense, you
00:23:56know, there has
00:23:58been a perception in the in Europe that going forward
00:24:01probably US would not be as enthusiastic or
00:24:05keen to ensure the European
00:24:08security, so I think in that
00:24:11regard
00:24:13the the emergence of issue of Greenland as
00:24:17bone of contention between Europe and America was something
00:24:21which was source of concern to all the European countries and with
00:24:25this, I think being resolved, I think it will
00:24:29strengthen the the collective transatlantic
00:24:32security
00:24:34and as regards the government of Denmark is
00:24:37concerned, you know, I think the fact
00:24:40that the the agreement reiterates and
00:24:43accepts the Danish sovereinity over
00:24:46Greenland is is something.
00:24:50which which was sort of red line for the
00:24:53danish government and I think the United
00:24:56States has has accepted that as well
00:25:00as from what I read in the newspapers is
00:25:04also that and the the Greenland's prime minister has
00:25:07also given a statement regarding that
00:25:11their right to self determination has also been you
00:25:14know accepted that in that agreement
00:25:18so I think it's a "it's a
00:25:21really the agreement is a sort
00:25:25of immense source of satisfaction for the Danish
00:25:29government that you know their closest ally
00:25:33and guaranter their security the United States is now you
00:25:37know they they had this issue and now the fact that they have
00:25:41resolved it through amicably through negotiations and
00:25:45put late to rest this issue and now they
00:25:49can concentrate on"

00:25:58more of a win-win situation for all rather than
00:26:02zeros game for the United States of America, do we
00:26:05understand that this agreement would actually lead to more
00:26:09investment, job creation and development when it
00:26:12comes to specifically Greenland itself is

00:26:36it further develop its infrastructure, so it's
00:26:40already an ongoing process and certainly
00:26:43for for more conducive investment environment
00:26:47any area or any country, it is important to have
00:26:51peace, stability and reliability, and this
00:26:54agreement sort of makes clear going forward
00:26:58where what the legal framework of greenland would be and
00:27:02sort of it will ensure stability
00:27:06status, clarity about the status of greenland
00:27:09and that would certainly
00:27:11encourage the western companies to
00:27:15invest more in Greenland, especially if they want to extract these
00:27:19minerals and all these things which we here, so for that
00:27:22it is important to build the also the infrastructure in this
00:27:26area because you have to build ports and you have to build all these things to
00:27:30you know extract not only the minerals but also to carry them
00:27:33to the other parts the
00:27:56regarding is to this issue the agreement between the US
