00:11:37is the geographical spread these protests from at Lib
00:11:40and Alepo to hama de Razor and Braka, and what does it tell us
00:11:44about the depth of Syria's economic
00:11:47crisis?
00:11:50Unfortunately for Syria has been one economic crisis after
00:11:53another and Gilani's price hikes of 40%
00:11:57and 28% do not reflect that there is global
00:12:01turmoil so but he has exacerbated this far worse by putting these

00:12:50right, exactly, that's that brings me to my next question, the Syrian
00:12:53government attributes... the fuel price increase to higher global
00:12:57energy costs and the overhaul at the banias
00:13:00refinery. to what extent do you see them as um genuine
00:13:04economic pressures and how much the public reaction is about
00:13:08broader dissatisfaction with the governments economic
00:13:11policies? well, with Banias
00:13:15offline, Syria can only produce about a third of
00:13:18its oil consumable factors are contributing to the oil
00:13:22price hikes and diesel fuel hikes. but 40% and
00:13:2628% greatly exceed that, it it doesn't cost that much to
00:13:30get diesel, this is the government using the
00:13:33pretext of a global event for extortion the
00:13:37public, and these protests come
00:13:41after the lifting of us sanctions when many
00:13:44Syrians were expecting um life situations and
00:13:48living conditions to improve um, could the fuel price hikes
00:13:52undermine public confidence in the promise? economic
00:13:55recovery, of course, fuel is tied to
00:13:59everything else, anything that use is transportation, delivering food,
00:14:03delivering clothing, retail, it all comes through, even
00:14:07the mail, everything's going to cost more when you raise the price of diesel and
00:14:10gasoline, their standard of living is going to bottom out, they can't
00:14:14sustain this for three months and i honestly don't think that is going
00:14:18to come back online, the maintenance of three months, this is what the government
00:14:21says, see how long it really takes is devastating for
00:14:26Yeah, and the other thing is, how quickly can sanctions relief
00:14:29translate into tangible improvements in people's daily
00:14:33lives, um, particularly when Syria continues to face
00:14:37damaged infrastructure, limited energy capacity and
00:14:41severe economic
00:14:41constraints.
00:14:45Lifting sanctions should have had more of an impact than it did, the problem is in
00:14:49Syria, most the government positions were handed out based on
00:14:52nepotism, there's a lot of incom. and there's a lot of scaming off the
00:14:56top,
00:14:57it is a outgrowth of ISIS, that's what
00:15:00HTS is, these aren't the most honest administers of government,
00:15:04and they're squandering the money, they're pocketing the money, sometimes they're
00:15:08fighting with each other, a piece of syrial
00:15:11of Syria has been annexed by the Israelis, so they're losing
00:15:14territory, and their government is just filled with waste and
00:15:18nepotism, so lifting the sanctions doesn't matter when your
00:15:22government has that level of corruption because the... steal whatever money comes
00:15:26in anyway and the other question is could these protests
00:15:29remain um primarily economic or do they have
00:15:33the potential you think do they have the potential to develop into?
00:15:37broader political challenge for the Syrian government, particularly if
00:15:41fuel prices continue to
00:15:43rise. the problem is, it's
00:15:47basically dictatorship. um, it's going to
00:15:50be violence is what it's going to happen, the process right
00:15:53now or there has been a little bit of violence, but this is going to get out of
00:15:57control. they plan on sustaining this for three months
00:16:00a 40% hike on diesel, it's not that people just don't want to pay
00:16:04more, it's that they can't pay anymore.
00:16:07and so when you get to that point uh, you're going to see
00:16:11violence in Syria again. Right, indeed,

00:26:02infrared sensor may pick up the heat from its engines, another system
00:26:06may detect its electronic emissions, and when the information from all
00:26:10these systems is connected through a single network, much clearer picture
00:26:14the target begins to emerge. that same night, the tracking the
00:26:17F35 reached the level of a weapon's quality lock, a
00:26:21warning the pilot could not ignore, the F-35 did not continue

00:27:06path, but its entire calculation over Iran's
00:27:09skies. The
