00:01:09journals, journalists often find themselves working under growing
00:01:12a pressure and facing detention and harassment. The latest case
00:01:16is that of press TV corresponent Named whose arrest has raised
00:01:20fresh concerns over the treatment of Palestinian journalists and her own
00:01:24safety while in detention.
00:01:27Checkpoint as she was returning from
00:01:29a report. assignment, her
00:01:32of cameraman who witnessed the incident recounts how the events
00:01:34unfolded. It was three female soldiers who ushered
00:01:38our car to stop.
00:01:39of They demanded we hand over our identification cards and they photographed each
00:01:43ID as well as took our pictures. After a short while the soldiers
00:01:47ordered the team to get out
00:01:48of the car and follow them to a military watch tower nearby. We were forced
00:01:52to sit on the ground for around 45 minutes and in that time naka was
00:01:56taken by the female soldiers to the side around 15. minutes later, the
00:02:00soldiers asked Hamed to collect her phone and laptop, and she was
00:02:04a taken into custody. The Palestinian Journalist Syndicate has condemned
00:02:08Israel's continued abduction and targeting of Palestinian
00:02:11journalists including Naqa Hamed. The syndicate said
00:02:14in a statement that her abduction is the latest example of Israel
00:02:18detaining a journalist. It noted that Hamed has diabetes and other
00:02:22health problems. It warned that Hamet's continued detention
00:02:25raised serious concerns about her health and safety given the harsh
00:02:29condition. and lack of adequate medical care in Israeli prisons and
00:02:33detention centers. the journalist has been working as a
00:02:37of prostifi correspondent since 2024. over the past few
00:02:40weeks she has been reporting about rising settler attacks
00:02:44especially in the town sitement on telegram channels and israely
00:02:48media. the campaign has been slammed as part of a targeted
00:02:52effort to put psychological and media pressure,
00:02:56limit the space available to journalists and media outlets and obstruct.

00:10:16organizations to stop the widespread killing of

00:23:54is this: does Iran have the right to charge ships for passing through the
00:23:58straight of Hormus? The answer is not simple: Hormus is
00:24:02natural international straight, but does being natural mean being
00:24:06cost-free, the modern world still runs on maritime
00:24:09transport. More than 80% of global trade moves by sea
00:24:13oil, gas, food, metals,
00:24:16medicine, cars, industrial components. and
00:24:20consumer goods all travel between continents by ship in other
00:24:24Panama Canal. Bab

00:24:29Gibraltar, and the straight of Hormus, the
00:24:33energy artery the Persian Gulf. Some these roots are
00:24:36artificial. They were once land, then transformed into waterways

00:24:48through excavation, dredging, traffic management, constant
00:24:51maintenance and complex infrastructure.
00:24:54That is why passage through them is not free. Economic,
00:24:58it is deeply political. Economic, it is deeply
00:25:01political. For years, Britain and France benefited from the canal's
00:25:05revenues. In 1956, Gamal Abdel Nasir
00:25:09nationalized the SUS Canal and declared that waterway
00:25:13located on Egyptian soil had to be under Egyptian
00:25:16sovereignty. Despite the military attack launched by Israel. and
00:25:20France to reverse that decision, and despite intense international
00:25:24pressure, control and revenue the canal ultimately
00:25:27remained with Egypt, a canal whose annual revenue in peak
00:25:31years has passed the $10 billion dollar mark, but not all choke
00:25:35points are artificial, some are natural such as the bosperos and the
00:25:38dardinels in turkey, the straight of Malaca,
00:25:42Gibraltar, and the straight of
00:25:45Hormus. In natural straights, states generally
00:25:49cannot chart. vessels simply for the active passage, in the same way
00:25:53road tol is collected, but that does not mean these roots carry no
00:25:57costs. in many such passages, fees are collected for
00:26:01specific services. now navigational assistance, lighthouse
00:26:04services, search and rescue,
00:26:07pilotage, tug support, port
00:26:10management, traffic control, and environmental
00:26:14protection. Now return to Hormus, the Straight of
00:26:18Hormus is one the busiest and most sensitive maritime roots on
00:26:22earth. Every day, around 200 vessels may pass through
00:26:26this narrow corridor, oil tankers, LNG
00:26:29carriers, chemical tankers, container. ships
00:26:32and even naval vessels. In such an
00:26:36environment, a collision between two ships is not a simple
00:26:40accident. Lives can be put at risk, chipping lanes can
00:26:44be disrupted. Millions of dollars in damage can occur,
00:26:47oil, fuel or chemicals can spill into the waters the
00:26:51Persian Gulf. This is not two cars scraping bumpers a
00:26:55street. It can become an environmental and economic
00:26:59crisis, but unlike cars, massive vessels. need
00:27:02significant time, distance and coordination to change course
00:27:06or come to a full stop. That
00:27:10is why passage through Hormus requires constant
00:27:13management. Just like crowded urban road, the straight of
00:27:17Hormus needs designated inbound and outbound
00:27:20lanes, traffic separation zones, maritime
00:27:23warnings, coastal monitoring, radio
00:27:26coordination and crisis management
00:27:29mechanisms. For years, Iran and Oman,
00:27:33as the coastal states the straight, have carried
00:27:36major share of this responsibility. While the global economy has
00:27:40benefited from this route, much the burden has remained with the
00:27:44region: air and water pollution, the risk of fuel
00:27:47spills, possible collisions, search and rescue
00:27:51operations, wider security and
00:27:55environmental consequences. In this context, Iran's
00:27:59question becomes easier to understand, is it? reasonable for the
00:28:03world to benefit from vital straight without contributing
00:28:06to the cost of keeping it safe, and more importantly, is it fair for
00:28:10countries that depend on the security of this route to impose political
00:28:14pressure, economic sanctions and even war on Iran,
00:28:18while still expecting essential services in this corridor to continue
00:28:22free of charge. From Iran's perspective, the era of
00:28:25providing such services without compensation is over. This does
00:28:29not mean closing maritime roots or using the... of hormos as a
00:28:33weapon, it means creating a transparent, legal and predictable
00:28:37mechanism for sharing the costs the services that keep this route
00:28:41safe and usable, if Suez and Panama collect fees for their
00:28:45artificial waterways and if some natural straights also
00:28:49have financial mechanisms for safety related services,
00:28:53then the straight of Hormus cannot be treated exactly why financing its
00:28:57safety and management must be taken serious.
