00:28:05and signed by range of previously prominent anti-imperialists.
00:28:09They claimed they wanted to express solidarity with what they described as
00:28:12political prisoners in Iran, but it was more like attempt to
00:28:16manufacture consent for the war being waged on Iran by the US and
00:28:20Israel, which is one the reasons why it's provoked such
00:28:23intense backlash from the anti-imperialist movements and progressive media
00:28:27outlets alike, resulting in some the original signatures
00:28:31withdrawing their names. as this report will
00:28:33explain to Iran's political
00:28:37prisoners trapped between two blades of a scissors, that was the
00:28:41headline of a controversial open letter published in the Guardian
00:28:44newspaper on the 20th of August
00:28:472026. It was signed by 24 widely
00:28:50known leftists and liberal figures. They included Angela
00:28:54Davis, famous for her involvement in black power in the
00:28:571960s, number of leftist academics in the US,
00:29:01Canada, the... in France, as well as the UK barrister Michael
00:29:05Mansfield and the US political prisoner, Mamuah
00:29:08Abujamal. There was quick and determined backlash from
00:29:12supporters the Palestinians and
