00:02:26Hello and welcome to
00:02:27of spotlight, I am bah, israel is facing increasingly
00:02:31visible diplomatic pressure at the UN with
00:02:34of its international standing
00:02:36of becoming in central issue in this year's general assembly during
00:02:39israely prime minister Benyamin Netanyahu's address
00:02:42delegations from dozens of
00:02:44of countries were absent or walked out the Israely officials counted
00:02:4877 delegations at the same
00:02:51of time of criticism over the war in Gaza developments
00:02:53of in the occupied West Bank and also Israeli aggressions around the
00:02:57region in the West Asia region in particular. has also raised lot of
00:03:01concern on international stage and - let us not forget
00:03:05that the international crimin court of justice also
00:03:09um issued a verdict and the arrest
00:03:12warrant for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his
00:03:16former war minister Yaf Gallant for their involvement
00:03:20in crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza and the West
00:03:24Bank so these are all the developments that
00:03:26of we're going to discuss um tonight and on this spotlight. to
00:03:30see how does the um international community is going to
00:03:34react to all of this and to the further isolation
00:03:37of the Israely regime and the Israeli prime minister in
00:03:40particular. allow me to introduce my
00:03:43guests.
00:03:48in
00:03:52professor sad nimmer, professor of political science joining us from
00:03:55Beerzoit University and also Masud Shajar, chairman
00:03:59of the island. human rights commission joining us from
00:04:02London, well very good to have you on this
00:04:06of uh bulletin, I'm going to first discuss the first question,
00:04:10but both of you are here, I was worried maybe one of you were missing out, it
00:04:14was a pleasure to have you both on this um
00:04:16spotlight, um professor Nimmer, I'm going to start
00:04:20in with the scene at the United Nations itself, dozens of
00:04:23delegations,
00:04:24the Israelis themselves counted 77 delegations
00:04:28walked out or were absent for. Prime Minister Benim Netanyahu's
00:04:31address, what does this unprecedentedly visible
00:04:34diplomatic protest tell us about the atmosphere surrounding
00:04:38Israel and the UN? Good evening to you,
00:04:42to your guest from London and to all your
00:04:45a viewers. Well, this is not the first time, but this time I think
00:04:49it was even bigger. We are talking
00:04:51of about more than 77 nations and delegations
00:04:55left the the uh hall in in the United
00:04:59Nations. kind of protest against
00:05:02whatever Netanyahu is going to say, that
00:05:06showed that there is kind of around the world
00:05:10generally, they are started
00:05:11of to understand stand that Israel is not
00:05:15only dangerous in in the region
00:05:19against the Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank, but also
00:05:22against Lebanon, against Syria, against Qatar, against
00:05:26even Tunisia at some stage and also against
00:05:30Iran, so the one who is in the
00:05:33area pretending and always using
00:05:36as Netanyahu speech and
00:05:40statements cleared that, they are defending
00:05:44themselves, this is not defending, this is atrocities against all
00:05:48the region to you know put forward their own
00:05:52agenda in the region to control the region, so
00:05:56everyone now started to understand that that this entity called
00:05:59Israel is absolutely out of all kind
00:06:03of laws and out the regulations by
00:06:07the United Nations and by the whole international
00:06:10community, the... "the thing that also some
00:06:14European countries also did that,
00:06:18not only African and Asian countries and South
00:06:21American, but also some European countries did
00:06:25that as well, so that showed that in Netanyahu's
00:06:29policies and Israel policy and Israel
00:06:32existence in the region anyway, now is
00:06:35under a big question mark, and that came because also the people
00:06:39in all these countries were in in huge dem."
00:06:42relations against Israel and what happened
00:06:45in in in the the last three years
00:06:48and especially during the genocide in Gaza,
00:06:52so now these leaders these
00:06:55countries, they have both the
00:06:58legal background as well as
00:07:01the ethical background, the legal background
00:07:05is quite obvious by the ICJ
00:07:09decision about you know the genocide. and the
00:07:13ICC regarding
00:07:15you know the orders of of
00:07:18arresting Netanyahu and Gallant, that's
00:07:22quite obvious now in the legal side that they are covered in the
00:07:26legal side, it's it's the international community who's saying
00:07:29that the international law and and ethically when
00:07:33the people outside in the streets
00:07:37marching against Israel and its policies that give them
00:07:40also this ethical b ground to also take action
00:07:44against Israel. Right, Mr. Shajar, of course, what we
00:07:48witnessed at the UN general assembly did not
00:07:52happen in isolation. In recent days a number of different
00:07:55governments from different continents the world used the UN platform
00:07:59to criticize Israeli actions in Gaza and the occupied West
00:08:03Bank. The Gaza war has particularly become one the defining issues of
00:08:07Israel's relationship with the international community
00:08:10today. How has this skate? the humanitarian crisis and
00:08:14destruction in Gaza affected Israel's diplomatic relationships
00:08:18including with countries that have traditionally maintain really close
00:08:22ties with it. well,
00:08:25i think from one aspect, it is good
00:08:29to see that many people,
00:08:33many governments are walking
00:08:35out in sort of at the
00:08:39UN when he starts
00:08:41the speaking, but another level, I actually think
00:08:44is really disgraceful
00:08:48that he's even allowed to come
00:08:51and promote his war crime, I
00:08:55mean this is a self-confess war criminal, he is
00:08:59proud of committing war crime and ethnic
00:09:03cleansing, and indeed everyone
00:09:06every nation should have walked out, he shouldn't have been
00:09:10even allowed to... come to united
00:09:14nation and behave and even
00:09:17be able to sort of do his
00:09:21propaganda the way he tried to do. mean,
00:09:25let's face it, what is the state is not
00:09:29just issue of palestinians and gaza, and
00:09:33is not just Lebanon or Iran. this guy
00:09:37and those who support him, including United States and
00:09:40Trump, are really... trying to drag
00:09:44humanity into a very dark places,
00:09:47normalized genocide as means of sort
00:09:51of diplomatic maneuvering,
00:09:55and really what is at the sake is the future of
00:09:58humanity, and in that sort of
00:10:01context, i think one should really
00:10:05say that united nation and its
00:10:08members are really behind when
00:10:12comes to standing up against this sort of
00:10:16behavior and genocidal tendencies
00:10:19of Israel and united state
00:10:23and and ordinary. people around the world are
00:10:27much more aware and committed
00:10:30against or even
00:10:34western Europe, I mean overwhelming majority of people around the
00:10:38world, including United State, including
00:10:41the sort of republican are
00:10:44against this war, they're against war against Iran
00:10:48and they see it for what it is, and I,
00:10:52I, I think the international community including
00:10:56UN and international courts are really failing
00:10:59humanity. Right, professor, focusing on prime
00:11:03minister Netanyahu himself, there was there seemed to be
00:11:07this change of attitude, personally speaking
00:11:10about um prime minister Netanyahu um comparing to for
00:11:13example the way he addressed the international community like in
00:11:171998 for example where he was openly saying that
00:11:21um we are going to always prioritize peace. and
00:11:25that sort of stuff, but this year he had chosen to be
00:11:29aggressive, even when it came to the delegations, he started
00:11:33by, if there are more cowards among you who would like to leave, please
00:11:36do it now, it was something totally unprecedented,
00:11:40even for an Israeli prime minister, how do you analyze
00:11:43that? well, yes, I think
00:11:46that the the statement came out of Netanyahu in the
00:11:50United Nations was so arrogant and so rude as
00:11:54well, first of all he insulted all these
00:11:57delegation countries around the world, in countries around
00:12:01the world who left the the uh the whole
00:12:05and and yet
00:12:06he is calling them cowards, you know this is really
00:12:10insult to all these countries showing this
00:12:13arrogance that they have, this is on one hand, on the other
00:12:17hand all the speech that he talked about, he was trying to
00:12:20defend his army and his country in whatever they
00:12:24are doing. and especially in Gaza and especially with the genocide
00:12:28war and he tried to deny that there was a
00:12:32genocide, forgetting that he was he is wanted by the
00:12:35ICC and at the same time he tried to
00:12:39justify that this is you know kind
00:12:42of self defense for
00:12:46Israel in order you know to attack all these countries
00:12:50around the middle east so
00:12:52it it is kind of
00:12:53you know very... poor and very full of
00:12:57lies kind of speech, no one is going to buy
00:13:00it at all, or even give it any any
00:13:04weight, but at the same time it showed to what extent the
00:13:08arrogance of Israel and how they are you know
00:13:11insisting on what they are doing, insisting on what they are
00:13:15doing is right, and it's their right by their attacks on
00:13:19Lebanon, on Syria, on Qatar, on Tunisia and on
00:13:23Iran as well, so... he's like speaking from
00:13:26this point of view that we have the right,
00:13:30that's basically because we are much better than you
00:13:34and we have to control all this region, basically that's what
00:13:38he's saying, he's forgetting that Israel since it was
00:13:42established 1948, till today there isn't
00:13:45one single decade, there wasn't a major
00:13:49war in the region, so they were created to do that, they were there
00:13:53in order to make instability to the whole middle
00:13:57east right? um, Mr. Shajar, we are also
00:14:00seeing developments beyond the UN itself,
00:14:04um, several countries have changed or strengthened their diplomatic
00:14:08positions regarding palestinian statehood, how important
00:14:12is the growing recognition of Palestine in understanding
00:14:15Israel's changing position in international
00:14:18politics. I
00:14:21think, I, I think what we are seeing, indeed
00:14:25there is huge change in the international relations
00:14:29and the position the people
00:14:33who see the truth and they have been woken up
00:14:37and that has created a amazing
00:14:40opportunity, mean you only have to go among
00:14:44masses even in London, New
00:14:47York and and the streets of Europe and
00:14:51to real we are at the crossroad is not just...
00:14:55issue of Gaza and is not just issue
00:14:59of western Asia, it
00:15:03really is the humanity at the stake and people are making
00:15:06a stand, and so what we've got at the moment is
00:15:10crossroad for humanity, on one side, the
00:15:13direction of genocide and genocidal policy and
00:15:17normalization promoted by
00:15:20Netanyahu, Trump and his clonies
00:15:23and and so... and then on other side those
00:15:27who are saying that this has to stop, and
00:15:31they are very clearly day by
00:15:34day coming to the realization. that the only
00:15:38option is resistance and supporting the
00:15:42resistance and is
00:15:44commitment to resist against this
00:15:48policy, and then we have people who really
00:15:51just want to get on with their lives in the middle who really
00:15:55don't care one way or other, but what we are seeing, the
00:15:59number of those who are recognizing the
00:16:03danger that is facing humanity and are willing to...
00:16:07to make a stand, be it in the west or the
00:16:11east or Africa or anywhere else in the
00:16:14world, is increasing day by day, and they are
00:16:18willing to make a commitment and they are also willing to pay
00:16:22the price of standing against these
00:16:25genocidal tendencies of Netanyahu
00:16:29and co, and so that's why that's the real
00:16:33game, what we are seeing, that awakening among
00:16:36people, and then being the politicians are
00:16:40being forced to change their position and I think this
00:16:44is the reality that we are facing
00:16:48day by day and the days of Netanyahu and
00:16:52Trump and his clonies and their
00:16:55elites are outnumbered and there is
00:16:59huge awakening and this awakening
00:17:02is thank God is is is
00:17:05getting stronger. day by day and hour by
00:17:09hour, right? professor, well, at the same
00:17:13time, let us not forget that Israel continues to have powerful diplomatic
00:17:17partners, most importantly, and obviously the United
00:17:20States. how much does continued support from Washington,
00:17:24effect the practical consequences the international criticism
00:17:28Israel is facing
00:17:29today?
00:17:33please activate your voice, professor, sorry, I think...
00:17:37that the United States is facing really a hard time now
00:17:41after supporting this genocidal war and
00:17:45supporting Israel in general, providing them not only with weapon and
00:17:49money and also protect them diplomatically
00:17:53in the United nations, so the changes
00:17:56are coming, that's absolutely sure about it, but
00:18:00maybe that will take some some time, till now there
00:18:04is very profound and strategic relation.
00:18:08between Israel and the Americans in the part on the
00:18:11the interest, the interest the United States, the deep state in the
00:18:15United States is interested in supporting Israel, because that will
00:18:19provide them with kind
00:18:21of you know control over the region, which is one the most
00:18:25important regions around the world, especially because
00:18:28the oil, so definitely there will
00:18:32continue, but we can see now the changes
00:18:36in the American society. itself, not only by the
00:18:39demonstrations, but also all the polls showed that more than
00:18:4360% in the American people in general change their
00:18:47mind about what's going on in in the middle east and about
00:18:51Israel and they don't want to support Israel anymore, on
00:18:55the other hand also it's among the
00:18:59Jewish young generation who are more than
00:19:0350% them now is against Israel and what Israel
00:19:07is do... and this is very important because these are the generation
00:19:11which is going to be next in in in in
00:19:14America in the political positions and political
00:19:18pressure, so till now we can see these changes, but
00:19:22these changes are not going to show directly a
00:19:26very
00:19:27you know short time, it it needs some middle and
00:19:30and long term
00:19:32you know period. Mr. Shajar, what about Israel's traditional
00:19:36relationship? uh with Europe, countries such as France,
00:19:40Britain and others that have increasingly voiced
00:19:43criticism when it comes to gaza and the west bank, of course, not
00:19:47Iran, for example, but I'll be witnessing a
00:19:50lasting change in Europe's approach to Israel as
00:19:53well, we are seeing a tremendous
00:19:57change, I mean Macron's speech
00:20:00and Spain's
00:20:03position and...
00:20:08European nations are now having to
00:20:12sort of respond and behave differently
00:20:15because of what their own population is
00:20:19demanding, and this is also the same
00:20:23situation in united state, ordinary people
00:20:27are demanding, if it wasn't because
00:20:29the genecidal
00:20:32behavior of Netanyahu and the support
00:20:36of Trump and
00:20:38and and his administration, Trump would have been
00:20:42much more popular, there wouldn't have been these crisis right now
00:20:46in united state, so these changes..." these
00:20:50changes of attitude by ordinary
00:20:53people and in right across the
00:20:56nations,
00:20:57you know, it really is forcing the politicians
00:21:00to to behave a different way.
00:21:04one could argue that this is too little, too late, but
00:21:08nevertheless this direction is
00:21:11becoming much more stronger and
00:21:15in very long gone, and they are
00:21:19real crisis
00:21:21vis of popularity, and professor
00:21:24Nimmer, finally, looking ahead, what would actually
00:21:28demonstrate, whether this diplomatic pressure is producing
00:21:31any substantial fundamental change? should we
00:21:35be looking at further recognition of Palestine, changes in
00:21:39arms or diplomatic policies, stronger international
00:21:43legal action, UN measures or something else as the key
00:21:46indicators of where Israel's international position. is
00:21:50heading? yes, let me remind you
00:21:54that when the boycott of South Africa started,
00:21:58it started on the grassroot decisions against South
00:22:01Africa, so the same thing we are now watching, the people around the
00:22:05world are
00:22:06you know criticizing Israel and they are forming you know lots of
00:22:10action around that what we need, not only that people
00:22:14going out in demonstrations, but we want to see some action being taken
00:22:18like pressure groups or... boycott and other
00:22:22things which will affect Israel particularly and
00:22:25also presurize their
00:22:28governments to take action. some the governments till
00:22:32now what they are doing is just minor things which
00:22:36just to come down their own audience, their own
00:22:39people
00:22:40like you know recognizing a Palestinian state. yes, it it's in the
00:22:44is good, long but
00:22:45this that run didn't stop the genocide when it
00:22:49was going. there so what do you mean by recognizing a Palestinian
00:22:53state? if you want to recognize a Palestinian state you have to do
00:22:56something or otherwise you are going to recognize a state without
00:23:00people because the genocide and the ethnic
00:23:03cleansing of Palestine so that's that's the
00:23:07issue that to take action yes on the level the United
00:23:11Nations we know that all these laws were which was set
00:23:15after the second world war, but what what
00:23:19was called the... international community, what is the international community?
00:23:23we are talking about America and the western countries in Europe
00:23:27and their allies here and there, is that the the international
00:23:31community? however, this international community
00:23:34laws which they've been put forward after the second world
00:23:38war had failed miserably in dealing with any
00:23:42issue, what can the United nations do? you know, nothing,
00:23:46nothing, because there is veto by United States if there is any...
00:23:50action will be taken, so we have to go to the general
00:23:53assembly under the seventh article to say
00:23:57that united for peace and to
00:24:00have force decisions on on
00:24:03even the security council in order to force
00:24:07Israel to stop what they are doing all the time and to take
00:24:11measures against Israel. professor, mr.
00:24:15masoud chajer, it was indeed a pleasure to have you both on this spotlight
00:24:19and that's about. It for this evening's program, the truth will
00:24:23always come out. Thank you for
00:24:24your attention, I am
00:24:25Bahman.
00:24:41When bombs stop falling, casualty figures are talied, names are added
00:24:45to lists, but numbers cannot measure the lives that unravel
00:24:49after. explosions, wars count those killed by
00:24:52missiles, they rarely count those who survived them and
00:24:56may later die of grief. yes, you heard that right,
00:25:00grief. 31 year old sayid became
00:25:04one of those. in the early hours of march 26, a US is
00:25:08really strike reduced her family home after neighborhood
00:25:12to rubble. her husband, local football coach hussein
00:25:15maliki and their two young sons, age five and three
00:25:19were... killed around them nine homes were destroyed and 24
00:25:23people died from the US Israely attack. Alham survived for
00:25:27seven hours rescuers searched through concrete and twisted
00:25:31steel before pulling her from beneath the debris. The
00:25:35fallen sofa had shielded her head from the collapsing
00:25:38building, but her injuries were severe. Her greatest wounds,
00:25:42however, were invisible. weeks later, a video of elham
00:25:46standing on the ruins of her home spread across Iran. in
00:25:50her hands was a hand-written note rescued from the rubble, one her
00:25:54young son had written before the attack, as she read
00:25:58it, her voice faltered, around her lay the remains
00:26:01the life. life she had built, her father says that after
00:26:05losing her husband, her children and her home, she was
00:26:09never the same. she withdrew from the world, spoke
00:26:13constantly of her family and struggled to bear even
00:26:16ordinary sounds. after more than two months of
00:26:20overwhelming grief, after losing her family in US Israely
00:26:24attack, she suffered fatal stroke and died. her
00:26:27story speaks to a quieter taller war of survivors
00:26:31who carried. the destruction with them long after the
00:26:35dos settles. It also reflects a wider pattern of
00:26:39U.S. Israely aggression across the region that has left behind
00:26:42a deeper tool not only a single moment of impact, but
00:26:46in the lasting human consequences that
00:26:49follow.
00:26:59I found Iranian Jewish leaders like Dr. Same. to be
00:27:03both stoic about the reality the region they inhabit and
00:27:06confident about their future inside the Islamic
00:27:09Republic. Indeed, the Jewish community was secure
00:27:13inside Iran, at least until soon after I left the
00:27:17country.
00:27:26When Israel launched its unprovoked attack, initiating
00:27:30a war that left almost 1 and Iranians dead from the
00:27:34Jewish community of Yazd, Kodadad Goharyan denounced
00:27:38the Israeli attacks on his country and endorsed Iran's
00:27:41military response. Despite the growing pressure from the
00:27:45outside, Iran's Jews are holding their ground,
00:27:48observing their traditions inside the country they
00:27:52recognize as their authentic
00:27:54homeland.
00:28:06In today's show we'll be considering whether Ed Milliban's statement to the House of Commons
00:28:10on Tuesday marked to see change in the UK's relationship with the
00:28:13Zionist colony or was it simply performative politics? This is a
00:28:17performative measure
00:28:19and and the performance is that the British government is seen to be doing something
00:28:23serious uh and the performance is also that the zonists are seem
00:28:27to be resisting as if this is the end the possibility of
00:28:31Jews living in the UK. which of course is ridiculous, we see
00:28:34Israel increasingly integrated with imperialism on
00:28:38the one hand, but considering itself an independent imperial
00:28:42power and trying to leverage all kinds of tech advantages
00:28:45and economic advantages that it enjoys to have not only
00:28:49the Abraham cause with the Isaac cause and being increasingly close to certain prime
00:28:53ministers including
00:28:54Milain.
00:29:48Tops here on Press TV, Iran's president has criticized US for failing to
00:29:52abide by the Islamabad mediated mou, saying the agreement can be
00:29:56the basis for hormones trade to be
00:29:58reopened, Iraq's Katib Hezbollah urges
00:30:02Iraki. used to support Iran economically and counter US sie
00:30:05calling for increased trade and purchases of Iranian
00:30:08goods. and the Canadian Premier
00:30:12Carney says he plans for possible US invasion and it comes
00:30:16in Trump's claim about making Canada the 51st US
00:30:20state.
