00:10:09Assalamu Alaikum. You are watching Pakistan Television News and
00:10:28it is right every
00:10:30time.
00:10:34Long live Pakistan.
00:10:51Pakistan
00:11:26Assalamu Alaikum viewers, I am your host Mona Khan with your show Reel Pakistani.
00:11:30Yes, viewers, today's Reel Pakistani features a blood disease doctor who has done
00:11:33a lot of work on thalassemia. And not only that, but in those areas
00:11:37of Pakistan where, I think, it is difficult for a doctor to go,
00:11:45for them. And not only that, but he also tries
00:11:48to provide awareness and counseling regarding thalassemia because
00:11:52if it is given on time, we believe that our children
00:11:56can be saved from thalassemia. So, he has done a lot of
00:11:59work and services in this regard. He himself is the CEO of Children's
00:12:03Hospital. I am talking about Dr. Saqib Hussain Ansari.
00:12:06Let's meet him. Yes, viewers, today's Pakistani Dr. Saqib Hussain
00:12:10Ansari is with us. Welcome him. Assalamu Alaikum, Doctor Sahib, how are
00:12:14you? Alhamdulillah, very good. Thank you very much. Obviously,
00:12:17you must be meeting so many children every day.
00:12:20To be very honest, children are very innocent, I wouldn't go to
00:12:24doctors. But definitely, children come,
00:12:28they get sick, so your mood should be good.
00:12:31Yes, certainly, and when you
00:12:34come to Pakistan Television, you become nostalgic because
00:12:38we used to come here during our college life and those
00:12:41old beautiful memories and that glorious
00:12:44time of Pakistan Television which is still there, Mashallah,
00:12:48and we have been enjoying
00:12:51it for the last 50 years. And what you said about pediatrics,
00:12:55yes, both my sons are doctors, so when they asked what specialty
00:12:59to choose, I said, "Look, try to take pediatrics. Pediatricians
00:13:02are a bit more empathetic and loving
00:13:05and caring. But you are doing MBBS from a big college,
00:13:08you are a new generation, you decide for yourselves whether
00:13:12to take cardiology or what." They studied for five years,
00:13:16did house job, and then came and said, "No, you were right,
00:13:20the environment of pediatrics is very empathetic and very loving
00:13:24and very caring. There is a very beautiful relationship between doctor and patient."
00:13:27So who told you that? You advised your sons. Who advised you?
00:13:31See, on such occasions, it is often said that I had a passion
00:13:35for it since childhood. So, practically, some people like children,
00:13:39like in our family, whoever enters the house, we send the children for shopping.
00:13:43Then we sit and drink tea and our matter is that why are the children not visible? Call
00:13:46the children. So, this is some God-gifted, some from Allah, some passion
00:13:50and some interest of yours. And especially a country like
00:13:53Pakistan. I did my post-graduation.

00:20:50teach that mother who,
00:20:52in the third month of pregnancy, has to come to Karachi to get a tissue test
00:20:56for thalassemia. The mother of a child with thalassemia
00:21:00needs to know if the next child will also have thalassemia. Tissue tests are done from the mother's womb
00:21:04under the Amna Foundation. People travel
00:21:07500 kilometers, 800 kilometers from Gwadar
00:21:11and Turbat, and from Kandhkot and Kashmore and Sukkur
00:21:14and Badin and Nawabshah. Why don't we start
00:21:18this work in Badin? Why don't we start it in Nawabshah and train
00:21:21people successfully? Now those tests are being done there, genetic tests
00:21:25are coming to Karachi. The foundation is performing these tests free of cost.
00:21:31and for that, we have to go to Gwadar. We travel 10-10 hours
00:21:34and in Turbat, we have set up clinics
00:21:38there and see 100 patients in one day. But in thalassemia centers,
00:21:42then in those thalassemia centers, providing state-of-the-art new
00:21:45machines, screening blood according to
00:21:48international standards,
00:21:51screening for hepatitis B, C, HIV, and then training technicians,
00:21:55calling them to Karachi for six weeks, teaching
00:21:58them and sending them back, whether it is Gwadar, whether it is Quetta,
00:22:02whether it is Turbat, whether it is Nawabshah, whether
00:22:06it is Badin, whether it is Sukkur. So, Alhamdulillah, Umar Sana
00:22:09Foundation was for my elder brother's children, Umar,
00:22:12who passed away from blood disease in America. And my elder brother himself,
00:22:16because he is a blood and cancer specialist doctor, has his own hospitals in Houston, Texas.
00:22:50He was our teacher. We worked at NIB for 18 years, then
00:22:53at Children's Hospital for 10 years, doing bone marrow transplants with a success
00:22:57rate of around
00:22:5885%.
00:23:05more expensive. Any 5 million, 50-60 lakh rupees. Our center, which works
00:23:09very, very sparingly, with very limited resources
00:23:13in the country, whereas other hospitals in the city
00:23:16of Karachi and Pakistan are charging up to 80 lakh to one crore rupees.
00:25:20whether they are young, you are absolutely right. This is a national
00:25:23problem and a national issue. A disease
00:25:26that 7% of the country's population carries,
00:25:30which means that approximately one crore people
00:25:34in the country are carriers. Let me clarify
00:25:37that 7% means that one crore
00:25:40are not sick, they are carriers, and a carrier means that
00:25:44they carry the gene, the disease is not apparent in them,
00:25:47but if they marry someone who is also a carrier,
00:25:51then they have the ability to produce a child with
00:25:57major is a disease in which the child needs blood
00:26:00every month, for as long as they live. We don't talk about how long
00:26:04these children live on media, but indirectly, so as not
00:26:08to discourage parents and patients, we will definitely tell them that
00:26:12they live a troubled life that is not very long, and
00:26:15throughout their lives, parents go through the agony of arranging
00:26:19blood for their child every month. If this national issue
00:26:22is being discussed on a large platform like Pakistan Television,
00:26:26and the Prime Minister and the top officials of the government
00:26:30and health ministers take this idea,
00:26:34which I was discussing with you earlier, why not give them the benevolent
00:26:37loan that was given to us in medical college to make us doctors,
00:26:41which our students used to get? To those parents whose
00:26:44child is born with thalassemia, a benevolent loan should be given
00:26:48in very minimum installments so that if, God forbid,
00:26:52a child with thalassemia is born, they can be registered for
00:26:55bone marrow transplant and
00:26:59to two years, they can be transplanted and put on the path to a healthy life.
00:27:02Why give them a painful life for 14-15 years,
00:27:06and even then, you will spend 60 lakh to one crore rupees
00:27:10on their 15-year life? And with all the depreciation of the rupee
00:27:13and the inflation, we don't know if one and a half crore rupees
00:27:17will be spent on them in the next 15 years, instead of today's 50 lakh rupees,
00:27:21you can give them a completely healthy life through bone marrow transplant.
00:27:25Okay, Doctor Sahib, because we talked a little bit ahead about marriage,
00:27:28after marriage, children, this is definitely a cycle.
00:27:32So why don't we focus on this, please,
00:27:36that before marriage, one should take care of all
00:27:40these things for the coming life. Okay, now tell
00:27:43me something technically, because in this, if, God forbid,
00:27:47something like that comes up in the test,
00:27:50then is their marriage not possible or
00:27:54is there some treatment? Because generally, you know,
00:27:57in the society we live in, where marriages are fixed, you know,
00:28:01yes, see,
00:30:33if in those two marriages out of 100, it is found that both the boy
00:30:37and the girl have it, every effort should be made not
00:30:40to marry. And the way to do this, as you know, is in Pakistan,
00:30:44if Nadeem and Saleem are to be married to Shabana and Sabina,
00:30:48if Nadeem tests positive, then marry him to Sabina,
00:30:51who is negative, and if Shameem tests negative, then marry
00:30:54him to Shameema. Whatever emotionally
00:30:58family ties there are in Pakistan, still 60-70%
