00:06:38how these parliamentary elections actually work because the state
00:06:42dooma itself is is considered the lower chamber the federal
00:06:45assembly, it consists of 400 400 seats
00:06:49and these elections are held every five years,
00:06:53225 of those seats are distributed through party
00:06:56lists. now what that means is that citizens are able to elect a
00:07:00specific political party and 225 seats are
00:07:04distributed through single mandate districts. now voters are able to
00:07:07cast the vote or the ballot and select a specific political
00:07:11candidate in their... constituency or uh their district there as
00:07:15well, but for a political party to be able to actually
00:07:19reach the state duma, it has to meet that 5% thresh
00:07:22hold. now Russian parliamentary elections uh start on
00:07:26September the 18th and finish today on September the 20th, that gives
00:07:30voters three days to cost their ballot. In terms of
00:07:33who's actually in the race, there are currently 10 political
00:07:37parties on the federal ballot, the first one being United Russia founded
00:07:41in 2001. and a party that has enjoyed constitutional majority
00:07:45for a while now, it's also President Putin's party, then we have
00:07:49the communist party the Russian Federation, this is considered the oldest
00:07:52party on the federal ballot, and also it's the second
00:07:56largest faction in the duma, then we have a just Russia for
00:07:59truth, and Paul suggests that they will be able to meet that 5% threshold during these
00:08:03elections as well, and we have the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia,
00:08:07currently chaired by Leonid Slotski after the death of its former
00:08:11charismatic leader. back in 2021 and of
