00:09:12secretary, dear members of the first and second
00:09:15chambers, our Prime Minister, Mr.
00:09:18Eeman, President of the Supreme Court, Mayor,
00:09:21Ambassadors, Ombudsman, authorised
00:09:24ministers of Sint Maarten and Curacao, fellow
00:09:28ministers, today we mark a special
00:09:31moment, with full confidence we welcome our new
00:09:35authorized minister, Mrs. Schwengel, in this
00:09:38important and responsible position, a moment of
00:09:42pride. a moment to remind ourselves that connection is the
00:09:45lifeblood of our kingdom. In recent
00:09:48years, we have shown within the kingdom more than ever
00:09:52that working together can truly mean something
00:09:55for all of us. Never before has so much
00:10:00years. Precisely in challenging times we have
00:10:04grown closer together. We have
00:10:07proven that joint priorities can be
00:10:10set and also actually realized. That shows
00:10:14that we are not only connected by history and
00:10:17constitutional law, but especially by shared
00:10:20responsibility, mutual respect and
00:10:23a shared future. We must continue to cherish
00:10:26and strengthen that connection. It is important that our citizens
00:10:30continue to realize that together we are and form a kingdom.
00:11:25our ambitions out, you are committed to
00:11:29cooperation, mutual understanding, progress, always with
00:11:32Aruba in your heart, thank you very much Mrs. Schwengel, much
00:11:36success colleague, we already have a great cooperation and
00:11:40we hope that in the future beautiful things can be
00:11:43made, done for our island and for the kingdom. Thank
00:11:47you very much, thank you for being here tonight, we hope we
00:11:51can make a big celebration of of this event and
00:11:55and wishing again much success to our new representative, our
00:11:59minister planny in the hig, m. thank
00:12:02you,
00:12:07excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies and
00:12:10gentlemen, dear friends, it is
00:12:14a genuine privilege to stand before you tonight
00:12:17here in the city of peace and justice,
00:12:21in the new kerk, the place that has witnessed.
00:12:25centuries of Dutch
00:12:26history,
00:12:30coronations, national moments of
00:12:33reflection and gatherings that shape the
00:12:36course of our
00:12:38kingdom.
00:12:41Standing in his space, one cannot help but feel the
00:12:44weight and the wonder of time, and it is
00:12:47precisely that sense of history that brings us
00:12:51together this evening,
00:12:54when I think about the gebroeders de wit, johan
00:12:58and cornelus, what stays with me
00:13:01is not their prominence, but their
00:13:05conviction, their conviction that good
00:13:08governance is not something one person can
00:13:11carry alone, that it requires
00:13:15dialogue, trust and the
00:13:18willingness to truly understand the
00:13:21other, leadership at
00:13:25best is about building bridges between
00:13:28people, between institutions, between
00:13:31nations, that conviction
00:13:35feels as necessary today as it ever
00:13:38has, because tonight we mark two
00:13:42milestones that carried deep meaning for the people
00:13:46of Aruba. this year we
00:13:49commemorate 40 years of
00:13:53Aruba's autonomous status,
00:13:55within the kingdom of the Netherlands and
00:13:59we celebrate 50 years of our
00:14:02national flag and
00:14:03Anthony,
00:14:0650 years of distinct
00:14:10distinct voice and a distinct place
00:14:14within our kingdom of the Netherlands
00:14:17and in the world.
00:14:2040 years of finding our own way,
00:14:25years of carrying our own bright
00:14:29colors, and yet we have never
00:14:32done so in
00:14:34isolation.
00:14:38The kingdom of the Netherlands entils a
00:14:41compass. The Netherlands,
00:14:45Araba, Cursel, St. Martin, each
00:14:49country holds its own bearing,
00:14:52brings its own perspective. its own
00:14:55strength,
00:14:59a compass of
00:15:00responsibility,
00:15:05directed with fundamentals
00:15:08and protecting the rights of our people.
00:15:12this compass only fulfills it
00:15:14purpose when it is calibrated
00:15:18carefully, updated from time to
00:15:21time, and
00:15:25All
00:15:27of its points are present,
00:15:31remove one point and orientation is
00:15:34lost, because together we
00:15:37give. each other direction
00:15:40and in a world that is growing more complex, more
00:15:43unpredictable and more interconnected,
00:15:47that shared compass is more valuable than
00:15:50ever. i am humbled to stand
00:15:54before you this evening as Aruba's
00:15:56newly appointed minister planning
00:15:59potentiary. it is the beginning of a
00:16:02journey. i come not with
00:16:05all answers. but with a firm
00:16:09commitment to listen carefully, to
00:16:13reflect, to work closely and to
00:16:17build the kind of mutual understanding that
00:16:20makes genuine collaboration
00:16:22possible, because in the face of
00:16:26challenges before us, geopolitical shifts, climate
00:16:30pressure, economic
00:16:32transformation, polarization and
00:16:35isolation, retreating, world it's simply not an
00:16:39option, the way forward lies in
00:16:42moving toward one another.
00:16:46Aruba's position within the kingdom and within the
00:16:49European Union is one of both
00:16:52responsibility and opportunity.
00:16:55As an overseas
00:16:58the EU, we occupy a
00:17:01unique cross road between the
00:17:04Caribbean and Europe, and and we are
00:17:07increasingly acting on that position with
00:17:11purpose. recently, Aruba
00:17:14signed memorandum of understanding with Skyphall
00:17:18and KLM, paving the way for
00:17:21EU pre clearance on our island.
00:17:25This means that travelers will be able to
00:17:28complete European entry formalities on
00:17:31Aruba before departure,
00:17:34making our islands a genuine gateway. between the
00:17:38Caribbean region and the European
00:17:40Union,
00:17:42it is a concrete step
00:17:45toward deeper connectivity and it
00:17:48reflects our broader ambition to
00:17:51serve as a bridge for the
00:17:54region. Think of free
00:17:58clearance not merely as logistical
00:18:01arrangement, but as metaphor for what Aruba
00:18:05represents. We are: a place where
00:18:08world worlds meet, where the
00:18:11war and the praza of the
00:18:14Caribbean breeds the structure of
00:18:17Europe, where travelers step onto
00:18:20our islands and before they leave are already
00:18:25the Atlantic. Aruba has been a meeting
00:18:29point, a place where cultures, languages and
00:18:32people have come together,
00:18:35and we know how to do this.
00:18:38For years, Aruba had the honor to operate
00:18:41US free clearance, allowing travelers to clear
00:18:45United States customs and immigration
00:18:48formadies right on our island before they
00:18:52bored.
00:18:55We value and we continue to value this
00:18:59opportunity.
00:19:02That experience, that proven
00:19:05track record of connecting. people across oceans
00:19:09is precisely what we now bring to the European
00:19:12partnership. EU pre clearance is not a
00:19:15leap into the unknown for us. It
00:19:19is natural next step.
00:19:21Preclearance simply makes our role
00:19:24official once more. We are not a
00:19:28stopover, we are the
00:19:29bridge.
00:19:32We have also concluded an Mou with Wageningen
00:19:35University and Research. to establish knowledge
00:19:39knowledge center on Aruba with regional
00:19:42mandate, because we firmly believe that
00:19:46lasting progress is grounded in knowledge, in
00:19:49research, in education.
00:19:52Aruba spires to be the place of learning and
00:19:56innovation for the wider
00:19:58region,
00:20:01and to all those who are considering where to
00:20:04invest, where to build lasting.
00:20:07partnerships where to engage with region full
00:20:11of potential, Araba extends an
00:20:14open, warm and sincere
00:20:17invitation. We offer stability,
00:20:20connectivity and a commitment to
00:20:22collaboration. I will pursue in this
00:20:25role flows for from a single
00:20:28convention that within this kingdom
00:20:32and with our partners in the region and beyond, we
00:20:35are capable of achieving. great things
00:20:38together,
00:20:41so let me say some closing words from the
00:20:44heart:
00:20:46it is no coincidence that Aruba has grown over. 40
00:20:50years into a small, autonomous country that
00:20:53accomplishes remarkable things. We have
00:20:57demonstrated that skill is no
00:21:00measure of impact. I
00:21:02stand here tonight, not merely to reflect on
00:21:06what has been built, but to look forward
00:21:10with ambition and with determination to
00:21:14the next 40 years.
00:21:17With the spirit of.
00:21:20common good that binds us all
00:21:23together, following our
00:21:26compass, together as a kingdom. thank you very much.
00:21:41good evening, it is for
00:21:44us a very important moment to
00:21:47share with you this election. of a minister
00:21:51of plenipotentiary of because in the
00:21:55relationship between Aruba and the
00:21:57Netherlands, there is a very
00:22:00important moment of reflection
00:22:03for us during these coming years.
00:22:07enormous challenges await us and in that
00:22:11reflection we looked around to find
00:22:14the right person, it took us some time, but
00:22:18tonight with pride. represent
00:22:20Mrs. with the intellect, with the capacity, with the
00:22:24experience and with the heart to represent
00:22:28Aruba here in the Hague. thank you, Milly for
00:22:31accepting this very important
00:22:34responsibility for your country for the kingdom of the
00:22:37Netherlands. Thank
00:22:38you.
00:22:48we also have
00:22:50an important moment for us to
00:22:53reflect on the responsibilities that we
00:22:56have as the kingdom of the Netherlands.
00:23:00In 2024,
00:23:02I wrote an article together with my late
00:23:06brother and the first prime
00:23:10reflection on 70 years of the
00:23:15the kingdom, and we looked at the
00:23:18preamble of the... and in the preamble we
00:23:22found words that
00:23:24resemble the important words that were
00:23:28also the carrying awards for the founding
00:23:32documents of the United States, the pursuit of
00:23:35happiness. In our language, we spoke
00:23:39about the gemeenschappelijke belangen, the
00:23:42interests that we have in common.
00:23:45Nowadays, I will translate that
00:23:48interest and that very important guiding
00:23:51star, as the common
00:23:54the Netherlands, we have a very
00:23:58important challenge, we consists of six
00:24:02different entity, and it is always a
00:24:06very important task for each part of this
00:24:09kingdom to find the common
00:24:12ground, to find the
00:24:15inspiration for a new reason
00:24:18why for the kingdom. Yes, we have a long
00:24:22history, we have a very long history of
00:24:25inheritance, many, many years ago we were
00:24:29brought together by a historical coincidence,
00:24:33six islands, six entities or many
00:24:36miles separated them, but at the same
00:24:41them made the choice to stay
00:24:45within this kingdom, all of us are in the
00:24:48kingdom, anymore because
00:24:51of history, we are in the kingdom, because we
00:24:55have made a clear choice to be part of the kingdom. the
00:24:59kingdom provides
00:25:01us as islands a very important
00:25:05framework in which our foreign
00:25:10a way that small islands can reach the
00:25:13world. our kingdom has the
00:25:16responsibility of protecting the
00:25:19territorial. integrity of our small islands in
00:25:23a very difficult region, and I can tell
00:25:27you that in the last
00:25:29months we have experienced what the
00:25:32value of that protection means,
00:25:36we pass through some quite
00:25:39difficult times, tensions between
00:25:43two large nations, and
00:25:45within all this tension,
00:25:48within... all the potential for
00:25:51Aruba and other islands to have been
00:25:54involved in a way that would of
00:25:57course lot of harm to us, we
00:26:01felt that... "there was an invisible hand that
00:26:04protected us. we
00:26:07are sure that our lord looked on us, but we also
00:26:10know that the kingdom of the Netherlands, the
00:26:14ambassadors, ambassadors of the kingdom in
00:26:17Venezuela, in united states, the
00:26:20ministers, foreign affairs, the minister of
00:26:23defense, all took the
00:26:26necessary precautions, so that the small island,
00:26:30very vulnerable island would have not..." been hurt
00:26:33by this development that was
00:26:36not within any of our control, but had the
00:26:40potential of creating enormous
00:26:43challenges for our idols, so let me
00:26:46express my gratitude
00:26:49today, in this very public space, for
00:26:52us having the kingdom is
00:26:55more than having inheritance, it is the
00:26:59basis to build our future, I would like to ask a
00:27:02hand of applause for all that help
00:27:06us
00:27:07maintain
00:27:11h. definitely we did not leverage all
00:27:15parts, every aspect of these
00:27:18words in our pm. there's a lot of
00:27:21work to be done if
00:27:25the kingdom set common goods as
00:27:28our guiding principle as our guiding star.
00:27:33we feel that in all the troubled times that we are
00:27:36going through, so much searching for meaning in
00:27:40the world at this time, so much
00:27:43searching, searching for purpose in the world at this
00:27:46time, it is of utmost
00:27:49importance, that the responsibility
00:27:53of governments, that the responsibility of
00:27:56communities have moral
00:28:00underpinning, and when Shandra. asked me
00:28:03for a location for this reception, many
00:28:07times I stayed at the Mercury Hotel and
00:28:11every time look at this church with lot of
00:28:14admiration and I believe that this is the
00:28:17appropriate place for us to talk about the model
00:28:21underpinning for the search for common
00:28:24good in our hearts and our soul, the
00:28:27motivation, the inspiration to
00:28:30look at the stars. and see that guide that
00:28:34we need to have a guiding principle which
00:28:38is the common good of all parts of the
00:28:41communities of our nations and of our
00:28:45part of the kingdom of the names. may god bless you, let's work hard
00:28:49together and give me all the support she will need
00:28:52for
00:28:59this. thank you very much, thank you for your presence,
