00:00:25Hello and
00:00:27processes, right? What welcome to another broadcast of Telesur Noticias. I am Gustavo
00:00:30Prada, and immediately, we begin the broadcast with
00:00:33headlines.
00:00:38In an unprecedented inauguration, Abelardo de la Espriella
00:00:42threatened those who attack his government,
00:00:45while assuring that he will advance with fracking and the eradication
00:00:49of illicit crops with
00:00:51herbicides.
00:00:56Cuba welcomes social movements from Latin America
00:01:00and the Caribbean at the Fourth Continental Assembly of Alba
00:01:03Movements, which is taking place in Havana.
00:01:06Citizens in Lebanon took to the
00:01:12streets in rejection of the negotiations. We begin with information from Colombia
00:01:16because in an unprecedented act held in the city of
00:01:19Cali, Abelardo del Espriella was sworn in this Friday
00:01:25the cost of the climate forward as a people. On the as president of Colombia for the period 2026-2030,
00:01:28ending the cycle
00:01:30of Gustavo Petro's government. The inauguration
00:01:33was attended by the ultra-right presidents,
00:01:36Javier Milei of Argentina, Daniel
00:01:39Noboa of Ecuador, and José Antonio Cast of Chile,
00:01:43as well as diplomatic representations from Washington and the attendance of
00:01:48years of the armed forces in King Felipe VI of Spain. After the event held in an auditorium of the
00:01:52Santiago de Cali University, del Espriella
00:01:55moved to the facilities of the Pichiña military canton,
00:01:58where he delivered his first speech as president
00:02:02before the country's military chiefs. From that venue,
00:02:05he threatened those who seek to attack his government.
00:02:10Santo Domingo becomes the venue for and electrical networks, which I tell all citizens,
00:02:11seeing that in in the tiger's government,
00:02:19all rules
00:02:21of democracy
00:02:24will be respected.
00:02:26There will be no room for maneuvers
00:02:30that threaten
00:02:32the talent of our athletes in search of the stability of the nation, nor against
00:02:35the legitimate
00:02:37and their corruption networks, exercise of the mandate that begins
00:02:39today. We tell you that there is tension in the
00:02:42streets and a change of command in Colombia. While Abelardo del
00:02:46Espriella officially assumes as the
00:02:50new president of the country, thousands of citizens
00:02:52once again take to the streets. Their slogan is one: the defense of
00:02:56life and national sovereignty.
00:03:00Details with our colleague Tatiana
00:03:03Portela. While at Santiago de Cali
00:03:05University, Abelardo de la Estriella
00:03:07entrenches himself behind closed doors and with his back to the
00:03:11people, a few kilometers away, citizens gathered to
00:03:15reject what they describe as a direct provocation to the Colombian
00:03:19southwest. The streets respond with the strength of their
00:03:22history. Abelardo chooses the city of Cali, not
00:03:25because that represents decentralizing the action of
00:03:29the national government, but because what he intends
00:03:32is to deepen what he has called a cultural battle, a provocation.
00:03:36That's why we are here today. He said on August 7th, "I'm going to
00:03:39bring it down." Well, here we are on August 7th, when they take office in
00:03:43Cali, giving support
00:03:46in this city that has been highlighted for
00:03:50being the capital of resistance in Colombia and one of the strongholds
00:03:53also of Latin America, to tell the country that we are not
00:03:57afraid. The scenography of this attempt at imposition
00:04:01had local accomplices. Mayor Alejandro Eder
00:04:05militarized urban areas, closed schools, prohibited vehicle
00:04:08circulation, and handed over cultural spaces to dispatch his
00:04:12orders. They intended to make citizens invisible
00:04:15and erase the resistance monument from the map, the totem that reflects
00:04:19the more than 80 victims of the social outbreak in 2021.
00:04:23But the order to repress crashed against an insurmountable
00:04:26wall of art, culture, and... Abelardo and the ultra-right know that
00:04:31one of the main strongholds of social movement and electoral
00:04:34strength is the Colombian southwest. He wanted to
00:04:38provoke in Cauca, that it is a military garrison, he couldn't.
00:04:42He came to Cali anyway, but this is a message to the entire southwest,
00:04:45the department of Valle, Cauca, Nariño, Putumayo,
00:04:49even the Pacific, where they vote massively
00:04:52for Petro, for Iván Cepeda, and for the Pact, and in
00:04:56that case, they don't come here with a message of reconciliation or dialogue. They come to
00:05:00intimidate. The people will not be intimidated.
00:05:03We are in the containment of fascism in Colombia, which is the southwest,
00:05:07and we will resist peacefully, but firmly.
00:05:10Faced with the threats of... as an ultra-conservative model,
00:05:14subordinated to foreign interests, the communities'
00:05:17response was clear: a free and sovereign Colombia
00:05:21refers to the fact that it is no secret to anyone that in the past
00:05:24elections there was foreign money. The United States and
00:05:28Israel manipulated the past elections
00:05:31and we also have a president who is a foreigner, who
00:05:35is a US citizen and who swore allegiance to that
00:05:39country. The voice of the native peoples rises firm.
00:05:42Senator and indigenous leader Ida Quilcue warns that the true
00:05:46threat to sovereignty and life does not come from the
00:05:48communities, but from those who seek to impose a model of
00:05:52exclusion. This presence has to do with the fact
00:05:56that they want to send a message to the country and the world that
00:05:59terrorists and drug traffickers are this popular, social, and
00:06:03community class and not them, and knowing that in practice it is they who
00:06:07have been part of that process and who today defend
00:06:10it. So here we are as dignified peoples, as
00:06:14peoples who represent dignity and life and rights
00:06:18above all, and we go for their defense. A historic day
00:06:22that reveals the deep fracture between the power that entrenches
00:06:26itself behind guns and a people who, from the streets and
00:06:30monuments, defend with joy and memory the national
00:06:33sovereignty and dignity that, as they say, will not surrender,
00:06:37damn it. Tatiana Portela, Telesur, Cali,
00:06:40Colombia. And now we move on to information from
00:06:44Bolivia, where the Ministry of Defense of the Nation announced that
00:06:48the country will participate in Panama in the next meeting of the
00:06:51Coalition of the Americas against cartels. The
00:06:55announcement was made during the event for the 201
00:07:01the first air brigade of El Alto. There, Minister
00:07:04Ernesto Justiniano indicated that the Bolivian delegation
00:07:08will attend with its own agenda focused on
00:07:11strengthening control of borders and airspace,
00:07:14incorporating technology, expanding international
00:07:17cooperation, and improving intelligence exchange.
00:07:21He also emphasized the need to pursue the
00:07:24financing, logistics, and corruption
00:07:27networks that sustain
00:07:28drug trafficking,
00:07:35and attack something fundamental: the
00:07:37money of criminal
00:07:39organizations, because we can
00:07:42take away their drugs, but if they keep
00:07:46their financing, their logistics,
00:07:49they can rebuild. Time for a short break. We'll be
00:07:53back with more Telesur News.
00:08:16By adopting the line of sacrifice again, we assume before
00:08:19history the responsibility of our actions, and by making
00:08:23our profession of faith in a happier world for the Cuban
00:08:27people, we think like Martí, that the true man
00:08:30does not look at which side one lives better on, but at which side
00:08:34duty lies, and that that is the only practical man
00:08:38whose dream of today will be the law of tomorrow.
00:08:41Fidel Castro. August 8, 1955,
00:08:45taken from Manifesto Number One of the July 26th Movement to the
00:08:49people of Cuba, drafted in Mexico
00:08:51City.

00:09:18expansion of consciousness.

00:10:00We are back to inform you that in Venezuela, more than
00:10:0490% of businesses without structural damage in La
00:10:08Guaira have resumed their activities six
00:10:11weeks after the double seismic event that shook the central
00:10:14coast of the country. Our colleague Leonardo Urrieta has more
00:10:18details.
00:10:22This is La Guaira, progressively,
00:10:26commercial activities are developing in this region. In the Maiquetía
00:10:29community, the largest commercial volume is concentrated. In Catia
00:10:33La Mar, economic activity is gradually growing, as is the
00:10:37case of Alejandro, who opened his business a couple of
00:10:40days ago. We are here at a
00:10:42reopening, providing service as we have always
00:10:46done for 34 years.
00:10:48Right now we have affordable prices and we have
00:10:52food with the same quality and taste as
00:10:55always, and we invite you to return to our state. The
00:10:59solidarity among Venezuelans is constantly
00:11:01manifested. This family business offers
00:11:05accessible prices, very hopeful to be able to
00:11:09contribute to the activation of economic activity in La Guaira
00:11:13state, specifically in the Catia La Mar parish where we
00:11:16are. Eh, really well, with a lot of pain, with
00:11:19a lot of sadness still for the loss of family members, friends,
00:11:23clients, but we have to move forward as a people. The people
00:11:26of La Guaira have understood this since what happened to us in the
00:11:30tragedy of 1999 and now in this
00:11:342026 that we have had to go through this very painful
00:11:37situation for our entire state, for our entire
00:11:40country, but we are still hopeful and have faith
00:11:44that we will move
00:11:48coastal strip of La Guaira, a tourist area, we met
00:11:51Wilfredo. He is the owner of this place where fish
00:11:54soup is the most requested by diners.
00:11:57From day zero of the earthquake, his restaurant
00:12:01worked to support the people.
00:12:04Delsis Rodríguez congratulated the delegation of the Naval
00:12:08School of the Bolivarian Navy located in Catia
00:12:11La Mar, La Guaira state, which was affected by the double
00:12:15seismic event. The naval school suffered the collapse of
00:12:18the command of soldiers and officers, deep cracks
00:12:22in main walls and
00:12:25structural damage, detachment of masonry as well as
00:12:29affectations to the hydro-sanitary
00:12:34motivated the temporary suspension of presidential
00:12:37activities to safeguard the integrity of cadets,
00:12:41officers, and civilian personnel. We now move
00:12:44on to other information where the interim president of
00:12:47Venezuela, Delsis Rodríguez, congratulated the Vinotinto
00:12:51football delegation after defeating Mexico in the
00:12:5525th Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo
00:12:572026. Through her official Telegram
00:13:01channel, Rodríguez expressed the following:
00:13:05"Go Venezuela! With immense pride I congratulate our
00:13:08Vinotinto, football champions of the 25th Central American and
00:13:12Caribbean Games Santo Domingo
00:13:162026. Our boys demonstrated
00:13:19courage, dedication, and determination to achieve a
00:13:22victory that fills our entire country
00:13:26with joy. Our 'Gloria al Bravo Pueblo'
00:13:29resounds throughout the
00:13:31world."
00:13:41Time to move on to another topic. With the aim of strengthening
00:13:44resistance against imperialist aggressions in the global
00:13:48South, delegates from all of Latin America and the
00:13:51Caribbean are meeting in Cuba. Belén de los Santos
00:13:55tells us the details of this
00:13:57meeting:
00:14:01What unites the struggles of Cuba, Brazil, Venezuela, or Haiti? How
00:14:05do we build a common path from different
00:14:07territories? This is the task facing delegates from 27
00:14:11countries in the Cuban capital.
00:14:15We started the day by making a historical overview of our
00:14:18experiences of socialism, which is not
00:14:22just history, it is present. It is our future
00:14:26and our references. One of the keys is to converse,
00:14:30to listen to learn from the experience of others. From Cuba,
00:14:33the importance of building always close to the
00:14:36people, a characteristic of Fidel, is highlighted. Among us is
00:14:40a fundamental principle of Fidel, which is communion with the
00:14:43people, that it's not that you like the people, it's not that
00:14:47you understand the people's problem, but that you are capable of building
00:14:51with the people a liberation project in which the people
00:14:55themselves signify, build themselves as a protagonist subject
00:14:58and change the reality they had to live. From the Caribbean also come
00:15:02the lessons of the Haitian revolution, still powerful to
00:15:05understand the present of the region. And a fundamental
00:15:08element of this construction is the emergence of a counter-hegemonic
00:15:12culture, not based on a new
00:15:16language, Creole, in a new spirituality
00:15:20and in new forms of work organization. This is how the
00:15:23discourse is built. It is not a
00:15:26utopia, it is a necessity, but it is also a
00:15:29daily practice, and that from the little we are
00:15:32doing in a settlement or in a camp, the way to
00:15:36organize, the way to produce a perspective
00:15:40different from capitalism, can also be a seed of
00:15:43socialism.
00:15:45In a context of imperialist advance against the region, the goal
00:15:49is to exchange experiences to strengthen joint
00:15:52strategies. That is what the fourth continental assembly of
00:15:55Alba Movements in Havana is about. It is
00:15:59fundamental to create channels of exchange
00:16:02between revolutionary
00:16:05I call the pedagogy of revolutions,
00:16:09to be able to nourish ourselves with all this
00:16:12richness and to be able to advance against the challenges
00:16:16of today, and today more than ever in our continent,
00:16:20we need to unite these processes in a necessary
00:16:23unity to build a necessary integration to stop an
00:16:27offensive that we are experiencing on the continent,
00:16:30which is perhaps one of the worst of all
00:16:34times in our history. Belén de los Santos for
00:16:38Telesur from Havana,
00:16:39Cuba.
00:16:42Now we move on to information from the United States, where Donald
00:16:46Trump's government is redoubling its migratory strategy with
00:16:50more detention centers, more agents on the streets, and a
00:16:54greater National Guard presence in Washington. The
00:16:57measures are already causing concern among residents,
00:17:00educational communities, and lawmakers. Our
00:17:04colleague José Leveña brings us the details.
00:17:09In the US capital, the increase in federal agents is already impacting
00:17:12migrant communities, and civil organizations denounce a climate of fear marked by
00:17:16detentions and family separation. I was in a
00:17:19prison without being a criminal,
00:17:23simply for coming to a country wanting to
00:17:26improve ourselves.
00:17:31Playing soccer with my
00:17:33friends.
00:17:36The other one was detained. The impact also reaches schools.
00:17:40Students and teachers assure that the fear of possible immigration operations
00:17:43already affects attendance and academic performance. We are
00:17:49elementary schools there are students who don't want to go to school. There is
00:17:53anxiety,
00:17:55there is, it is affecting academics, but
00:17:58also emotions. It is very
00:18:00difficult to study and focus on your studies when you are
00:18:03afraid of the country or where you are. He
00:18:07wants to make this safe and beautiful, but we know that his efforts here are
00:18:11making our communities more dangerous. His efforts have killed
00:18:15people here. His efforts are putting people in jail
00:18:18unjustly. As criticism grows, the Trump administration
00:18:22advances in the expansion of the immigration detention system.
00:18:25ICE prepares detention and deportation. All of this proposed was a huge
00:18:29disaster. They don't need more money. The
00:18:33agencies need reforms
00:18:36because the agencies are killing
00:18:40citizens and committing
00:18:43various human rights abuses. We found
00:18:47that the highest mortality rates were recorded in centers
00:18:50with the highest overcrowding. It is not
00:18:53necessarily the largest detention centers that have the highest
00:18:57rates. In fact, it is those that have
00:18:59experienced a very rapid increase in their
00:19:03population. There are too many people in small
00:19:05places.
00:19:08The hardening of immigration policy is reflected in the figures. ICE
00:19:12reported close to 51,000 arrests in July, the largest
00:19:15monthly record in its history. The offensive also reaches
00:19:18transportation. The White House reported that in a single day,
00:19:2251 people were detained and 36 drivers were sanctioned
00:19:26for not meeting the English proficiency requirements. With more resources,
00:19:29more detention centers, and more operations, the Trump administration deepens
00:19:32the largest migratory offensive of recent years. While the White House
00:19:36presents it as a security strategy, its detractors
00:19:40warn that fear, family separation, and complaints of human
00:19:43rights violations extend much further than the border. In
00:19:47Washington, José Leveña,
00:19:49Telesur.
00:19:54We'll take a short break, we'll be right back.
00:20:53Dozens of activists representing the different
00:20:57political currents and religious sects
00:20:59that make up the social fabric of the Lebanese people
00:21:03gathered in the heart of the capital, Beirut, in rejection of the
00:21:06direct negotiations underway between the Lebanese
00:21:10government and Israel under the sponsorship of the United
00:21:13States. Jishan Wanus brings us more
00:21:16details.
00:21:20Their motto: the land is ours and the future is ours. The
00:21:23protesters denounced the plans for normalization of
00:21:27relations with Israel, and expressed their strong rejection of the framework
00:21:31agreement reached at the end of last June, as
00:21:34part of the direct negotiations between Beirut and
00:21:38Tel Aviv under Washington's auspices.
00:21:41We come to express our rejection of the
00:21:44direct negotiations and we do not accept that they continue with the framework agreement
00:21:48and with their peace plans and normalization of relations with Israel. We reject
00:21:52all of this and we will remain in the streets protesting and
00:21:56we will not leave until our demands are met. We
00:21:59will not remain silent in the face of the political decisions of the Lebanese
00:22:03government, because we are the children of this homeland
00:22:06and we comply with its law that penalizes any dealings with the enemy
00:22:10Israel, and unfortunately it is now permitted in Lebanon.
00:22:13We are against this normalization, we are with the
00:22:16homeland and we will fight for the liberation of all national territory,
00:22:20while you, those who negotiate, go to the dustbin of history. The
00:22:24participants in the sit-in that took place in Riada
00:22:28Sul Square in front of the seat of the Lebanese government in Beirut,
00:22:31denounced that the diplomatic course adopted by the
00:22:34cabinet of their country, which criminalizes
00:22:37resistance and blames it for the current Israeli
00:22:41aggressive escalation against Lebanon, does nothing but
00:22:44legitimize occupation, ignore the national
00:22:48interests of the Lebanese people,
00:22:50and endanger the future of the
00:22:52nation.
00:22:56We denounce that our government sold the southern region of the country and prevents
00:22:59us, through the framework agreement, from prosecuting the
00:23:03aggressors at a time when the southern region is being completely
00:23:06destroyed and they are doing nothing. Where is the
00:23:10government? Why is it silent? And that is why we come today to
00:23:13ratify our rejection of the framework agreement and to
00:23:16ensure that even if they kill us all, we will continue
00:23:20fighting and resisting and we will not abandon Lebanon and all its
00:23:24territory will be liberated, led by the southern region, because without
00:23:27southern Lebanon there is no Lebanon, either we all die or we all live.
00:23:31Internal dialogue, national unity, and the union
00:23:35between the people, army, resistance, and government,
00:23:38are key to ending the occupation, stopping the war,
00:23:42restoring security, stability, and
00:23:45rebuilding the country's future, as the protesters
00:23:48affirmed, in rejection of any kind of
00:23:52foreign dictates and in defense of their
00:23:55legitimate right to self-
00:23:56determination.
00:24:00Despite the continuous popular demonstrations of
00:24:03rejection of direct negotiations with Israel, the Lebanese
00:24:06government continues with these conversations, which it
00:24:09defends, constitute the best option to stop the
00:24:13war and restore security in the country, an official
00:24:16vision that much of the Lebanese people.
00:24:29This concludes the broadcast. Stay tuned to Telesur.
00:24:49Faced with adversity, the will of the people will never
00:24:52be broken.
00:24:58With firm steps and real actions, we rebuild
00:25:01every Venezuelan home. We remain
00:25:04united in a single plan, with the invincible strength that
00:25:07defines us, because Venezuela
00:25:10is reborn.
