00:01:35temporary routes for ships to pass

00:04:21doesn't seem to have any real basis uh as far as the evidence
00:04:25goes from what we've seen and what we understand, and as you've been
00:04:28explaining, the... Iranians are still claiming their
00:04:33of of of influence over the straight of Hamos, their right to impose
00:04:36tolls upon the straight, and there's even talk in that
00:04:40agreement with a man about stopping US and Israeli
00:04:43shipping from going through, now none of this will be acceptable to
00:04:47the Americans, but JD Vance, just like Donald Trump,
00:04:51insists that the Americans are directly negotiating with
00:04:54Iran, and JD Vance
00:04:57of basically implying that the Americans hold. all the
00:05:00leverage, he
00:05:01of says the nuclear capability has
00:05:04of been destroyed, their military has been virtually
00:05:07destroyed and they're suffering economically, so
00:05:11of it's all a question about the American. now making sure they're
00:05:14going to get what they want from this deal, but as I
00:05:18say, uh, there's no clear message coming
00:05:22from the Iranian side, which backs up the assertion that
00:05:26JD Vance is giving, the vice president saying that we're at the
00:05:29middle the game. Turkish foreign minister Hakan
00:05:33Fedan says reaching the agreement on the Hormus straight
00:05:37is now as international pressure for deal to be reached
00:05:40intensifies.
00:06:12we are close to reaching an agreement, however we see
00:06:16that the decision making process within Iran could take some time due
00:06:20to security concerns. At the moment, countries in the
00:06:24region as well as the United States, Western Europe and
00:06:27Asia are calling for the straight to be reopened as soon as
00:06:31possible. There is considerable pressure to reach an agreement on this
00:06:35issue. Our diplomatic correspondent Andrew
00:06:39Hopkins is in Ankara. has been asked about what the
00:06:43latest state of play is about the talk surrounding the straight of formers,
00:06:47because obviously we've seen the last 24 hours or so, the United
00:06:50States saying deal is close again, but we have been in the
00:06:54situation several times already, and hakam fidan talking
00:06:58to anadolo agency here in Turkey, he's saying that he
00:07:02believes that talks are at an advanced stage,
00:07:06however uh, he says there won't necessarily be
00:07:09announcement imminently because the decision. making
00:07:13process within Iran and that may take some time as well,
00:07:17so it's not clear exactly when this agreement is going to
00:07:20be finalized, whether it's going to be a question of few hours or
00:07:24few days, but clearly lot of countries in the region and further field want to
00:07:28see the straight of hormos opened because the
00:07:31problems it's been causing to the international economy and the price of
00:07:35fuel all around the world. A new deal
00:07:39between Turkia, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan is committed. to them each
00:07:43other's defense as fall out from the war on Iran prompts new concerns
00:07:47around the region. The agreement was signed in Mecca and will see
00:07:50closer military corporation and include a NATO style
00:07:54collective defense clause, which means an attack on one will be

00:08:21stance on resolving conflicts and crises through dialogue and
00:08:25diplomacy based on respect for international
00:08:28law. the turkish foreign minister says the macca
00:08:31defense agreement is not directed against any particular country as
00:08:35long as its members are not attacked by actors from within or outside the
00:08:39region. burada da yani b is a strong
00:08:43determination to address or at least contain the instability in the
00:08:47region and to improve the prosperity of its people through greater
00:08:51economic and social integration. the intellectual
00:08:55and conceptual groundwork and planning are already in
00:08:58place. we are working on how implement these plans
00:09:02institutionally. NATO's greatest deterrence is
00:09:05its ability to develop defensive position. in other
00:09:09words, the message is, if you attack me, prepared, I
00:09:13have the military strength of such a large community behind me,
00:09:17so do not test my strength. As result, I'm not
00:09:21attacked, and within the region where I live, I can focus on
00:09:25resolving political and economical problems, developing and
00:09:28moving towards a more normal path. This is important
00:09:32because violence, war and suffering are what stand in the way
00:09:36of development. By strengthening your deterrence, you
00:09:40help prevent that. Mehmed Chelik is the
00:09:43editorial coordinator the Daily Suver publication. He explains
00:09:47how the Mecca agreement is not an alternative to the NATO defense
00:09:51pact. Nevertheless, when
00:09:54we when we talk about attack and the countries demand some sort of
00:09:57support, there will be different tiers to deal with. Do they need
00:10:01intelligence, do they need let's say military equipment or
00:10:04defense industry equipments or do they need an actual
00:10:08all-out coordinated military support uh?
00:10:12this these different tiers will be discussed, but I think one the the
00:10:16common understanding is that this is not something that is
00:10:20alternative to NATO, but it comes from vision that
00:10:24seeks to at least for the region to own the problems and
00:10:27own the solutions at the same time without
00:10:30interference the third parties, especially when it comes to
00:10:34collective defense, for I think, for for
00:10:38very long time some the regional countries had dependent on
00:10:41external powers for their defense, I think this
00:10:45establishment will eliminate that reliability problem and
00:10:48trust problem the third parties outside the region, nevertheless
00:10:52when it comes to Turkia's position regarding so it has been
00:10:56clear that of course
00:10:58you know there is a there is
00:11:00you know about
00:11:01the article 5 issue this is going to how
00:11:04you know this is going to be discussed how it will affect Turkia's position within
00:11:07NATO but this is not this is one that is
00:11:11defense motivated rather than an offensive
00:11:15one so if Turkey is attacked for example Turkey will have
00:11:19to defend itself through NATO or through this new establishment but if the
00:11:23other countries attacked because Turkia is not part of
00:11:26that, I mean because they are not part of NATO, Turkia
00:11:30can still support those countries at different levels, if
00:11:34Turkia is attack ultimately because of this problem,
00:11:37again Turkey is a NATO country, and then it will
00:11:41be discussed how NATO can support defending Turkia, when if
00:11:45there isn't if there isn't a provoked
00:11:49attack on Turkia um from from the neighboring countries, from
00:11:53the region or from any other actors. the international from the
00:11:56international community, then Turkia will have multi tier
00:12:00defense mechanisms at place, one them will be this new
00:12:04mechanism, but of course TK is part of NATO, that has to be also in place
00:12:07as
00:12:08well.
00:12:14Serbian president Alexander Vuchit says his government will support
00:12:17Ukraine's independence and seek to strengthen economic
00:12:21cooperation between the two countries. Vladimir Zelensky is
00:12:25making his first presidential visit to Serbia,
00:12:28as Vuchic seeks to balance balgrades EU ambitions with its longstanding ties to
00:12:32Russia. Vutic has condemned Moscow's invasion of Ukraine
00:12:36but has refused to impose sanctions and remains heavily dependent on Russian
00:12:40gas. We have now reached an
00:12:44agreement with Trump that will grant the licenses, but just imagine if we had received them
00:12:48four years ago. We would already be manufacturing patriots for
00:12:51everyone.

00:14:03the Ilskiy oil refinery in Russia's southern crasnodar region has been
00:14:07extinguished. Russia's defense ministry said its air defences
00:14:11destroy 397 Ukrainian drones over multiple
00:14:14regions overnight. Ukrainian officials have
00:14:18confirmed the strikes saying keive hit both the Illski and
00:14:22Sirzan oil refineries causing fires at. both. Our
00:14:26correspondent Joel Flynn reports from Keiv. I
00:14:29think uh, in terms of what he was expecting from the the talks
00:14:33and the discussions between Serbia and
00:14:36Ukraine themselves, it was probably not an awful lot. The two have
00:14:40regularly had meetings, indeed Vučić was in Ukraine just last
00:14:44month, so this is not unusual in that regard, and we have heard
00:14:47Zilinski talking up economic cooperation, they have mooted joint
00:14:51development projects uh planned as well, things around energy.
00:14:55infrastructure uh, but beyond that, of course, the question that Ukraine has at the
00:14:59moment is specifically around defense, and we haven't heard anything about
00:15:02how Serbia may or may not contribute to that in the future. What we
00:15:06have heard from Zelinsky talking in Belgrade today is that the that the Ukrainians
00:15:10have now secured a monthly deal to deliver patriot
00:15:13interceptors from the United States. We don't know in
00:15:17what quantities however, and that is key question for Ukraine as it
00:15:20struggles under the volume of ballistic missile attacks that are hit.
00:15:25Keeve and other parts the country a a weekly basis,
00:15:29indeed on Tuesday we saw at least 17 people killed by huge
00:15:33ballistic strike that hit the capital and other parts the country as
00:15:36well. but this is not an insignificant for issue for
00:15:40Ukraine at the moment and it is factoring into all the discussions that Zelinski is
00:15:44having with all of his partners across Europe um how to
00:15:48get interceptors and specifically these patriot
00:15:51interceptors that aren't uh just not with coming not
00:15:55forth coming in in Ukraine but are really in thin volumes right across
00:15:58Europe as well we know that the United States has been heavily using them as result
00:16:02of its war with Iran but how that factors into the broader question of
00:16:06defense around and Ukraine is issue that is really
00:16:10really the top level of discussions among
00:16:14diplomats and among
00:16:14leaders. High up in the
00:16:18skies above Ukraine with not a person in sight, there is a battle
00:16:22being waged. It is new stage of Kiev's conflict
00:16:26with Russia, one that is pushing the frontiers of technology
00:16:30and the economics of warfare. Yet the implications of this
00:16:34fight for air superiority are on the ground.
00:16:40few weapons have played as big role in Russia's war on Ukraine as the
00:16:44Shahed, the long-range unmann Kamakazi drone has been a
00:16:47scurge the skies for most the conflict, yet Ukraine
00:16:51believes 2026 is seeing a shift in that

00:18:30about plug in place solution. Yes, this is the most crucial change
00:18:34that could happen in the moment. If the claim..." correct, it
00:18:38would shift the equation of Ukraine's ballistic defense from one of
00:18:41scarce interceptors towards one of offensive reach and
00:18:45political. Zelinski is currently in negotiations
00:18:49over patriot interceptors with the US and has also asked President
00:18:53Donald Trump about using Starlink over Russian
00:18:56territory. The battle in Ukraine's skies may be
00:19:00determining the next stage in this war, get it is discussions in the
00:19:04political halls of power that could yet decide its future.

00:21:14hundreds of thousands continue to face severe disruptions to their
00:21:18education and daily lives. For many these families, the
00:21:22death of father has meant the loss the household's only
00:21:26bread winner, forcing children to shoulder responsibilities
00:21:29far beyond their years. One them is 13 year
00:21:33old Karim Abuf. Instead of carrying school books,
00:21:37Kariem sells chilled water in his camp, using a small
00:21:41solar powered cooler, he turns simple idea into
00:21:45a way to support his family. My father was killed during the
00:21:49war so I hit. to help my family, my grandparents and everyone who depends
00:21:53on me, i am the only one supporting them, i collect food from
00:21:57the community kitchen and provide for my family, i have to leave
00:22:00school because no longer have time to study, other children are still in
00:22:04school, but i was forced to give up my education to help my family.
00:22:08is restrictions on humanitarian aid have also left families with
00:22:12increasingly limited
00:22:13options. i a mother of four
00:22:17children and since my husband's de "we have had no
00:22:21source of income. Karim, my elder son, has taken on
00:22:25the responsibility of supporting his younger siblings. for thousands
00:22:29of children in Gaza, the seasfire has not brought an end to
00:22:32hardship. nine months on, families are still facing
00:22:35displacement, poverty, and the pain of losing loved
00:22:38ones. 10-year old Muhammad Abdul Salam
00:22:42now spends his days working a traditional clay oven instead

00:22:55We have no source of income and no money to rely on, so I had to
00:22:59send my son to work at the clay oven here in the camp, even
00:23:03if he earns $2 a day, it helps us buy vegetables and
00:23:06basic food. I'm responsible for six family members and
00:23:10Muhammad, my eldest son, is the one helping provide for our
00:23:13family. With more than
00:23:15637,00 children out of formal education.

00:23:30Demonstrations are being held in Tel Aviv, part the weekly anti-government
00:23:34protests against Benjamin Netanyao's administration and again

00:26:10Darfur, where nearly three quarters of schools have been destroyed or
00:26:13rendered unusable since the war began. the region
00:26:17includes Alfasher, one the main centers the
00:26:20conflict. after more than 1200 days of war, nearly half
00:26:24of Sudan's teachers have gone without salaries, but many
00:26:28continued to teach under extremely difficult
00:26:31conditions.

00:27:55up and continue to go, so credit to teachers, but in the Sudanese
00:27:58aspect, there is no alternative, part the other is bit of
