00:10:42China's mountains desert or land, either too
00:10:46dry or to cold to farm. The fertile strip
00:10:50where most people actually live, is a fraction the
00:10:54whole. which raises an obvious question: how do
00:10:58you feed 1.4 billion people on
00:11:00that? one answer, make every hectare
00:11:04count. nowhere is that more visible than in luachan
00:11:08county a few hours from yanan where hillsides that
00:11:12once grew modest orchards have been turned into a sprawling
00:11:16laboratory for the plane apple. for more than
00:11:19decade, scientists here have been doing something farmers have done for
00:11:23centuries ( spreading trees for better fruit,
00:11:27but here's the catch: it's been done at
00:11:30industrial, genetic scale, they've bread varieties

00:11:52planet's climate is changing, How are phenomena
00:11:56like drought and other extreme weather conditions
00:11:59affecting the variety of apples that you're
00:12:02producing. Frost damage
00:12:06during flowering occurs in the an growing region almost every
00:12:10year. Severe frost damage can result in total crop
00:12:13failure. We use breathing methods to address the issue of
00:12:17frost damage during flowering. Most frost damage during flowering in the
00:12:21yan region occurs in early to mid April.
00:12:25Therefore, if we develop late blooming varieties that delay flowering
00:12:29by 10 to 15 days, the flowering period will shift to late
00:12:33April. This way we can avoid frost damage during
00:12:36flowering. Through breathing methods we can resolve the issue of
00:12:40frost damage during flowering caused by these climate anomalies in the
00:12:44industry. What type of specific
00:12:48technologies that are being developed here in the
00:12:51laboratories uh that are applicable to other commercial.
00:12:59Our country has national apple industry technology system in
00:13:02place across the major apple producing regions. Almost every

00:21:38seconds. i met with lanchon, the plant's executive
00:21:42deputy general manager.
00:21:46currently more than 400 robots are in operation in the... welding

00:21:54seconds. this high level of automation has fundamentally
00:21:58reshaped the way vehicles are manufactured here. robots can
00:22:02operate around the clock, significantly improving production

00:22:53vehicle, power train and battery projects in the region,
00:22:56attracting, supporting suppliers and filling key gaps in

00:24:09china so very popular in in some uh jilly uh some some
00:24:13global markets as well um the numbers for this particular
00:24:16company is impressive i think for the first two months you
00:24:20exceeded uh the 800 pound gorilla BYD
00:24:24that's uh it's a very promising start this year right yeah
00:24:28so actually um not only two months the first um half the year the six
00:24:32months we achieve 1.4 million you know
00:24:36global sales in terms the GD auto group sales volumes so it's a kind of
00:24:40momentum we already gain a couple of months already and we want to
00:24:43keep keep it going so uh in terms of our innovation

00:25:02open up the uh the lights uh tell me what goes
00:25:05on a in in the dark factory side the manufacturing well
00:25:09as as you mentioned my I think dark facturing juty is quite common and
00:25:13this balg factory is a good example and a good representative so normally
00:25:17when no visitors we just turn off the lights and actually don't need
00:25:21and because because the high automation and all the robotic arms right
00:25:25deployed into the different production line and we were quite confident that
00:25:29um this kind of mechanism dock factory which means high
00:25:32automation is is is fully can satisfy our daily
00:25:36production needs. the industry has a name for what Kevin's
00:25:40describing: a dark factory. these are
00:25:43production lines so automated, so precise they can run
00:25:47for hours without a single person on the floor. In some
00:25:51sections the lights don't even need to be switched on for the simple reason
00:25:55being the machines don't need to see. Cheeli
00:25:59turned them today because we asked. Normally. "this
00:26:02room runs in the total dark. we had a chance
00:26:06to uh witness the different production

00:27:03really excites you about what's going on here at
00:27:06plants? i think um for personally i would say
00:27:10sustainability so if you visit out of factories will be all like machines
00:27:14all like metal things but just you see all the trees all the grass
00:27:17around and we try to like sustainable it
00:27:20coexistent between our factory and and environment together
00:27:23surround it so we we we don't want to do a disruptor the

00:28:51China looks for ways to feed its population, power its economy,
00:28:55and build the factories of tomorrow. Chanshi's history tells us
00:28:59where China has come from, but the transformation that's happened.
