00:09:27voices in the US that promotes African music,
00:09:31African art, and uh, we started as far back as
00:09:352013, and I'm glad that
00:09:39Nigerians, more than more than 17 Nigerians, hm?
00:09:43you know one awards in this international uh
00:09:45competition, so I'm really very glad, not only that it will
00:09:49promote Nigerian music in the US, which is the global
00:09:53center of entertainment, it also build new
00:09:57audience in the US, people begin to love Nigerian
00:10:01music, because the entertainment was a big international event,
00:10:05and thanks to the mask behind the
00:10:08cutting, Anderson who started
00:10:12this... was he grew up in Nigeria here and traveled to the
00:10:15US at the age of 25 or so, this from IMO state,
00:10:19he was rais in Nabia, so I'm I'm glad when he go to the
00:10:23US, he did not go... to um
00:10:27legal things, you was able to rediscover himself and discover that you could
00:10:31showcase African music to the world, and since he started this
00:10:35projects in 2013, it has been a global success,

00:11:06domiciled in Nigeria so that great starts in the US,
00:11:10in Asia can also come to Nigeria to receive award, I think we have
00:11:14built that reputation you know, and I believe we can do it, you rap
00:11:17music uh was like new kid on the block here, but
00:11:21feno, I i'm i'm glad to say.
00:11:25is uh flying a flag, yeah, absolutely, and also in the
00:11:29area of comedy, nigerian also
00:11:31won award, gospel music, you also came
00:11:35top, so we are almost all rounder, you every area, we are

00:14:35from crude earnings, it's in fact a two edged
00:14:38sword, while Nigeria struggles to meet its production
00:14:42targets, even as we are dealing with pipeline vandalism
00:14:45and under investment, we expect labor to be on the same page with
00:14:49government, don't you? well, i think
00:14:53the reality. is that in many
00:14:57areas uh with labor we are on the same page,
00:15:01we cannot deny the fact that the cost of living has gone
00:15:04up, yeah, the cost of essentials of
00:15:08life, even water that we call poor
00:15:12water that we call pure water that we call - we call it poor
00:15:15water we call pure water, it's gone up, everything,
00:15:19gas, gasoline, foil,
00:15:23basic things no gas so there is
00:15:27no how that we can see how we
00:15:31can be thinking of living with 7000 n
00:15:34you so I agree with them you know. now at that
00:15:38level, we should also be mindful the fact that there
00:15:41are global um, mean we are working within the
00:15:45rem of global contest, yeah that the f price is not
00:15:49something that came out of
00:15:50local, yeah, but because
00:15:54the crisis the middle east,
00:15:56you know, in Saudi Arabia, between Iran and the US, the
00:16:00middle east between Ukraine and and Russia, so we
00:16:04are also part of that international community, so whatever... happens in those
00:16:08areas will affect us, the issue now
00:16:11is what should be done, what should be
00:16:15our objective response, because every country is coming
00:16:19out with solutions to deal yeah with the challenges you
00:16:22know based on the what is happening in the middle east so I
00:16:26think um I agree with them in the area of
00:16:30government coming out with certain uh palliatives in terms of
00:16:34maybe we can the access we are making from good oil. you
00:16:38can go into supporting transportation,
00:16:41you know, mass transportation, we have done it in this country before, and
00:16:44also to ensure that our local government, because every time we talk
00:16:48here and when people talk on the street, it's as if the only institution we have is
00:16:52the federal government, there are 774 local governments in this
00:16:56country, yeah, there are 36 states, you know, so each
00:17:00local government should find a way to invest in the agriculture where
00:17:03possible, if you are talking about local governments in bayesa in '
00:17:07legos that
00:17:08you know are aquatic area, they can go into fishing, so
00:17:12we should not always be focusing on what i going to get from
00:17:16abuja,
00:17:17you know weekly, mean monthly allocation and all that, so our local
00:17:20government uh leaders, the state governors should be
00:17:24more creative in investing agriculture, so i think
00:17:28if you can do this, and i also think one major problem is the lack of
00:17:32social safety net, we don't have
00:17:36social security system. so if anybody is ill, if
00:17:39you want to deliver a public hospital now a place like lagos,
00:17:43if you don't have at least 30,
00:17:46if it operation,
00:17:47you are talking about 200, so how do you expect
00:17:51people to get that kind of money? so if you
00:17:54have health insurance then you
00:17:58can go to the, mean to
00:18:01you can walk into any hospital even when you are see you don't have the money you will be attended
00:18:05to, we don't have mortgage system. whereby you i can build
00:18:09a house without necessary having the money over time about 30 years
00:18:12i can begin to pay back gradually because if
00:18:15you want to build a house in legos time you don't have 10 million for a start how do you want
00:18:19to build it and how long will you take it to accumulate up to 10 million unless you
00:18:23still so these are some the challenges that i think the government can look
00:18:27at so that we can be able to cousion the impact of this uh
00:18:31there's no that that we have made some you know we have advanced for
00:18:35instance um some five some six five si years
00:18:38ago one meeting up our target, but today Nigeria is
00:18:42producing about 1.5 to 1.6 million barrels per that's
00:18:46significant you know achievement and that means that we have been able to deal
00:18:50with the problem of uh vandalization uh
00:18:54criminal activities bunkering so it's a major achievement for this
00:18:57country and we are also making advancem in the area of economic
00:19:01growth you look at the foreign reserve you look at the volume of
00:19:05funds that is going to state state and government, however,
00:19:09there's a difference between growth and development, if the funds
00:19:12are increasing, there must be, it must relate
00:19:16to the, to the needs people,
00:19:18the so I think these are some the area that we need to look at, but if
00:19:22you just increase salary now, maybe to about 15000, I
00:19:26can tell you of 30000, which is even still small, but if you don't
00:19:29weigh the options very well, yeah, it may come out to be counterproductive, you just
00:19:33discover that transfer to jump to another 500%, you... not

00:21:00make our people poor
00:21:03are issues that can be addressed
00:21:06frontally by the states, okay?
00:21:10for example, the matter
00:21:12of um transport
00:21:16subsidy, there's no state in Nigeria that cannot...
00:21:21take care of transport subsidy right, because
00:21:25what they just need to do is some the monens that they
00:21:28are dedicating to building bridges, you
00:21:32know, provide bridges and all that, they can buy
00:21:36high capacity vehicles for people to use and
00:21:40subsidize. i've talked about
00:21:43what governor zulum has done in b state, oh yeah,
00:21:47whereby he bought these buses? buses
00:21:51that run on electricity on
00:21:54electricity, um, buses that are
00:21:58run on CNG and it is 50 n
00:22:02per drop, oh yeah, this is not
00:22:04fiction, this is what we
00:22:07saw, now how many states are trying to do
00:22:10that or have even attempted to do
00:22:14that, because that's subsidy, and what the man
00:22:18said is look, we experience
00:22:22a minimum of 15 hours of sunshine, if we
00:22:25cannot exploit that
00:22:29to give our people electric
00:22:32cars, charge
00:22:36by uh solar, then we've not done well for our
00:22:40people, the same man puts
00:22:44buses on the road to not just take students to
00:22:48school, but to take
00:22:50farmers to their farms located on the
00:22:54outskirt the the state capital, in
00:22:57fact secondary
00:23:00school students, male and female are
00:23:04supplied bicycles to take them from their
00:23:08homes to their to their schools, they right to
00:23:11school, especially in environments that are not too far far
00:23:15apart, no the the way it is even those the schools are not usually not
00:23:19even far from yeah, the are
00:23:21localities, there are a big mega
00:23:25schools all over the place, so that's a bus, yes, this is
00:23:29b, yes, this one runs on
00:23:31CNG, so 59, so that's
00:23:35subsidy, Lagos can do it, every state can do it,
00:23:39yeah, but if we are waiting for the federal government
00:23:43to do everything, that is, when the other day when

00:24:23federating unit, because the resources are there, not just because the
00:24:27are the resources to do that. okay, if in yube
00:24:30somebody built the biggest mother and child hospital in
00:24:34yube, and the same person he
00:24:38has made dialysis
00:24:41free, for everyone. did he take permission from the
00:24:44federal government? no, so he's doing, and that's one the
00:24:48poorest states in Nigeria. Yeah, but over there dialysis is
00:24:52free, so since he can do
00:24:55it, oters to can do it, I
00:24:59will never be convinced that they can't do it, so some of what
00:25:03the NLC is right in making these
00:25:07demands, but this demand some
00:25:11of it can be addressed by the federating units, this is
00:25:15the point, transport subsidy for example, you look a country like Great
00:25:18Britain. they subsidize transportation, oh yeah, they
00:25:22will not subsidize energy costs, but they will subsidize
00:25:26transportation so that people can go to work,
00:25:30spend less money going to work, lot of our people,
00:25:34including our staff here, the b their salary goes to
00:25:38transport costs, the b of
00:25:42people salaries go uh goes to um um
00:25:45housing uh paying rent.
00:25:51so there's a lot more that our leaders can do, there's
00:25:55a lot more, so I agree that look, something must
00:25:59give, because if this uh...
00:26:04Iranians and the Americans who are fighting each other a
00:26:07senseless war, if they continue, it will continue
00:26:11to drive up prices of
00:26:15energy cost diesel, diesel, no, everybody is
00:26:19affected, oh yeah, that was the point I made here last
00:26:22week, when people think, oh is by having refineries,
00:26:26no, even if you have 1 million refineries,
00:26:30as long as... "crude oil prices are
00:26:34denominated in the in in dollars, what can help
00:26:37us is for our own currency to become stronger, of
00:26:41course you you draw attention to Texas, the largest state in
00:26:45the US, and they have more than 20 refineries, yeah, that's state
00:26:49alone, energy,
00:26:52no, energy costs are high, it's is
00:26:55everywhere, but they need to help,
00:26:59like um, even wage awards, they can do wage" that states
00:27:03can do wage awards, oh yeah, they don't have to wait for the federal authorities,

00:28:59project. Now president has welcome. the
00:29:02tribunal ruling, stating that we would never succumbed
00:29:06to predatory or opportunistic claims, we are ever
00:29:10open to genuine partnerships and legal obligations, the president
00:29:14added. meanwhile, some years
00:29:17back, our own
00:29:19btoju visited the site the mambela
00:29:23hydropower project, i remember that scene to
00:29:26investigate why the project had not taken off, he discovered some
00:29:30staggering issues stalling the... execution the project,
00:29:34one these is that there's no root leading to the project
00:29:38site, which signified that nothing much has been done
00:29:42about it. let's bring back this story just to
00:29:45refresh the memory. let's go
00:29:47there.
00:29:55it has been more than 30 years of waiting for what could easily
00:29:59become the biggest power project in Nigeria to kick off. The
00:30:03Mamba hydropower project is estimated to cost the
00:30:06nation 2.09 trillion naira, that is
00:30:10about 5.8 billion US dollars. situated in the
00:30:14heart of Mambilla, Nigeria's paragon of undefeated beauty,
00:30:18in Saddana Local Government of Taraba State, getting to the project
00:30:22site is a big challenge that tax one's body and soul.
00:30:26It begins with a 6-hour trip from Jalingo, the taraba state
00:30:29capital to Kakara, the famous home of Highland. and a
00:30:3315 minute ride on multiterrain vehicles to Amadu
00:30:37village. Even the best of multiterrain vehicles cannot
00:30:41go beyond this point. I'm getting
00:30:44set to go to the site the Mambilla
00:30:48Hydropower plant project, one the
00:30:52three big
00:30:55waterfalls from which
00:30:58the water.
