00:00:41Hello, I'm Siska Becker and you're watching World Highlights. Our
00:00:44weekly program on TVRI World, we compiled all the biggest
00:00:48stories that has made this week's headline, so let's begin with this week's
00:00:52world
00:00:53highlights.
00:00:57of
00:01:04of new global power
00:01:07dynamic is taking shape as leaders
00:01:10of the expanded bricks grouping gather in New Delhi, the world's
00:01:13emerging economies are pushing for a greater voice in global
00:01:17affairs, hosted by India under the theme building for
00:01:21of resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability, the
00:01:252026 brick summit brings together 11 member states
00:01:28including Indonesia. from economic cooperation and global
00:01:32governance to artificial intelligence, energy and
00:01:36sustainable development, the t-day summit seeks to strengthen
00:01:39cooperation among the global south, but with a larger
00:01:43and more diverse membership, bricks also faces key
00:01:47challenge. Here's the full
00:01:50of report. New Delhi became the
00:01:54center of global south diplomacy as leaders
00:01:57of the bricks countries gathered for
00:01:59the 8. brick summit on September 12th and
00:02:0313th. hosted by India under the theme
00:02:07Building for resilience, innovation, cooperation and
00:02:10sustainability. The summit came a time of growing
00:02:14geopolitical tensions, trade disputes, economic
00:02:18uncertainty and pressure on global supply
00:02:20chains. For two days, leaders discuss how
00:02:24bricks can strengthen cooperation among emerging
00:02:27economies while pushing for a great. greater role for the global south
00:02:31in international decision making. the
00:02:352026 summit was also significant because
00:02:38bricks has now grown far beyond its original four member
00:02:42of format. the group has 11 full members including
00:02:46Indonesia which joined as a full member in January
00:02:502025.
00:03:02Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the summit in New
00:03:05Delhi, welcoming leaders and representatives from across
00:03:09Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin
00:03:13a America. Russian president Vladimir Putin,
00:03:17Chinese President Shin Ping, Indonesian President
00:03:20Prabo Subianto, South African President Siril
00:03:24Ramafosa and other leaders took part in the
00:03:27summit. The meeting was belt against a complex
00:03:31international backdrop, ongoing conflicts, rising
00:03:35trade tensions and disruptions to energy and supply
00:03:39chains. they all have created new challenges for developing
00:03:42economies. for India, the 2026
00:03:46bricks presidency was an
00:03:49of opportunity to place resilience, innovation, cooperation and
00:03:52sustainability at the center
00:03:54of the group's agenda. the summit also
00:03:58marked two decades. Since bricks began as brick, a grouping of
00:04:02Brazil, Russia, India and China before South
00:04:06Africa joined and the name became
00:04:08breaks.
00:04:21The expansion of bricks have changed the group's global
00:04:25profile.
00:04:27of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and United Emirates became
00:04:31full members in 2024, followed by Indonesia
00:04:35in
00:04:37a 2025. The 11 member group now represents nearly half
00:04:40of the world's population and around 40% of global
00:04:44GDP, according to data cited by Indian
00:04:47sources, but a larger bricks also means a
00:04:51more
00:04:52of diverse one. Members have different economic structures, political
00:04:56systems and foreign policy priorities that. makes
00:05:00consensus more challenging, but also makes bricks a
00:05:04broader platform for developing and emerging
00:05:07economies.
00:05:18One the central themes the summit was the future of
00:05:22global governance. Brick's leaders called for a more
00:05:26representative and fairer international order,
00:05:29including reform of multilateral
00:05:31institutions. The New Delhi
00:05:35declaration reaffirmed the group's commitment to
00:05:38multilateralism, sovereign equality, international
00:05:42law. and greater representation for developing
00:05:45countries. geopolitical conflicts also
00:05:48loomed large. the declaration express concern
00:05:52over escalating international tensions including the risk to
00:05:56civilian infrastructure and nuclear safety during armed
00:06:00conflicts. the members also sought to address the
00:06:04impact of conflict and instability on global
00:06:07trade, energy security and economic
00:06:10development.
00:06:19Economic cooperation remained a key priority:
00:06:23bricks members discuss strengthening trade and investment, building a
00:06:27more resilient supply chain and deepening financial
00:06:30cooperation. The group also continues to explore ways
00:06:34to facilitate trade using national currencies and to
00:06:37strengthen financial cooperation among member
00:06:40states. The broader objective is to make bricks
00:06:44cooperation more practical and to create new
00:06:48opportunities for business, investment and
00:06:51development, but the agenda is no longer
00:06:55limited to traditional economics. Technology and
00:06:58artificial intelligence have become increasingly important
00:07:02parts the bricks
00:07:03discussion.
00:07:18Under India's chairmanship, bricks also place strong
00:07:21emphasis on innovation and sustainable
00:07:24development. Leaders discuss cooperation in
00:07:28areas including digital technology, artificial
00:07:31intelligence, clean energy, food
00:07:35security, agriculture and climate
00:07:37action. The goal is to link economic growth
00:07:41with greater. resilience, particularly for developing
00:07:45countries that are vulnerable to climate change, energy
00:07:48disruptions and global economic shocks.
00:07:52People to people cooperation was also part the
00:07:55agenda, including culture, education,
00:07:59tourism, health and other areas of social
00:08:02development.
00:08:15For Indonesia, the New Delhi summit was an important moment
00:08:19in its early years as a full bricks
00:08:21member. Indonesia's membership provides
00:08:24additional platform to engage with major emerging
00:08:28economies from different regions. President
00:08:32Prabo Subianto's participation also reflected
00:08:35Indonesia's engagement with the broader global
00:08:38south. Areas such as trade, investment,
00:08:42Food security, energy, digital technology
00:08:46and development offer potential avenues for
00:08:49cooperation. At the same time, Indonesia,
00:08:53like other bricks members, operates with its own national
00:08:57interest and foreign policy priorities within the group's
00:09:00consensus-based
00:09:01framework.
00:09:17After two days of discussions, bricks leaders adopted the
00:09:21new delhi declaration by consensus. The document
00:09:25reaffirmed three broad pillars of bricks
00:09:28corporation, political and security
00:09:30cooperation, economic and financial
00:09:34cooperation, and cultural and people
00:09:37to people cooperation. The
00:09:41declaration also. emphasize sustainable development,
00:09:45inclusive growth and the need for a more representative
00:09:48multilateral system. for India, the
00:09:52declaration was the main political outcome for its 2026
00:09:56chairmanship, but the next challenge is
00:09:59implementation. the success of bricks will depend
00:10:03not only on the number of declaration it adopts, but on
00:10:07whether those commitments can be translated into concrete
00:10:11corporation.
00:10:2518th brick summit came to an end, India's
00:10:282026 chairmanship also due to
00:10:31close. the group now moves into its next phase with
00:10:34China set to take over the bricks chairmanship in
00:10:372027. from its origins as a four country
00:10:41economic grouping, bricks has developed into a much broader
00:10:45platform connecting countries across four
00:10:48continents. its expansion has given the group
00:10:52greater reach but also greater.
00:10:56The New Delhi summit showed that, despite differences among
00:10:59members, they can still find common ground issues such as
00:11:03development, economic cooperation, technology,
00:11:07sustainability and global
00:11:09governance.
00:11:16So that's our recap for the break summit in New Delhi, when we return
00:11:20after the break, we will give you the latest update the tension between US and Iran

00:12:26Now shipping tensions around the straight of hormos are
00:12:30escalating as diplomatic efforts to keep the vital waterway
00:12:33open face new setbacks. disruptions are also raising
00:12:37global concerns over energy supplies, shipping security
00:12:41and the impact on food production and prices. Here's the full
00:12:45report.
00:12:49Iran and Oman have been working a temporary shipping corridor
00:12:53through the straight of Hormus. including a joint plan to remove mines
00:12:57from the waterway. talks planned in oman salalah were
00:13:01expected to bring together eight countries, but Bahrain said it
00:13:05would not attend, siting its lack of diplomatic relations with
00:13:09Iran. Iran has warned that an agreement on the safe
00:13:13corridor does not mean straight is fully safe for commercial
00:13:17shipping. the arrangement comes amit ongoing disputes
00:13:21between Tehran and Washington over navigation and security in
00:13:25street.
00:13:34Iran says Saudi Arabia requested the postponement a meeting
00:13:38on maritime navigation that was planned in Oman, while
00:13:42Riyad had not commented at the time of publication.
00:13:46Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Ismail Baque also
00:13:49denied that Tairan was involved in recent development between Saudi
00:13:53Arabia and Yemen.
00:14:25cannot become the new normal. Doha says freedom of
00:14:28navigation is a trop priority that a prolong closure will have
00:14:32a global consequences for shipping, trade and energy
00:14:35supply. Qatari official said diplomatic
00:14:39efforts with regional and international partners are continuing to
00:14:43find a peaceful solution. The comments come as regional
00:14:47tensions continue to disrupt shipping through hormos and race
00:14:51concerns of above elmandeb.

00:15:03the straight of hormus is being told toward an Omani port
00:15:07with two crew members still missing. Oman say maritime
00:15:11security center said 23 other crew members were
00:15:15evacuated and given medical assistance. Iran
00:15:18says the Panama flag Algaya, also known as
00:15:22algaya struck neval mine while The United States
00:15:26says it was hit by an Iranian missile and later a
00:15:29drone. The competing accounts come as the commercial
00:15:33shipping through the straight remains disrupted.
00:15:46the UN food and agriculture organization warns that disruptions
00:15:50to shipping through the straight of hormos could reduce global food
00:15:54production and supplies in the second half of 2026 and
00:15:58into 2027. the straight is key route not
00:16:02only for oil and gas but also a urea and other
00:16:05fertilizers needed by far. around the world,
00:16:09fao official said even short
00:16:13delays in fertilizer deliveries could cause farmers
00:16:17to miss critical application windows and lower crop
00:16:20yields. the disruptions could also push up food
00:16:24prices and version hunger in areas already facing food
00:16:28crisis.
