Cookie Policy
Last updated: April 29, 2026
Cookies We Use
Apprised.news sets no cookies of its own. No strictly necessary cookie, no functional cookie, no analytics cookie and no advertising cookie is written by this site.
Correction, September 2026: an earlier version of this page said Microsoft Clarity set first-party cookies here. It did not. The Clarity loader was removed on 7 August 2026 and had never worked before that, because our Content Security Policy blocked the domain it loads from.
Our own measurement is a beacon to our /api/track endpoint that uses no cookie at all. It is described in the Privacy Policy.
What Is Local Storage
LocalStorage is a browser feature that stores small amounts of data on your device. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is not sent to servers with HTTP requests. We use it to remember your theme preference and view state so you don't have to reset them each visit.
How Long Anything Lasts
Because we set no cookies, there is no cookie duration to report from us: no session cookie that ends when you close the browser, and no persistent cookie with an expiry date.
Your reading preferences and theme choice live in your browser’s local storage. Those have no expiry date, because no server sets one; they stay on your device until you clear this site’s data. They are never transmitted to us.
Where Google’s Subscribe with Google script sets a cookie on a subscription page, its lifetime is set by Google and documented in Google’s own policies, not ours.
Third-Party Services
Our hosting provider (Netlify) may set functional cookies for load balancing and security. We do not control these cookies. See Netlify's privacy and cookie policy for details.
Microsoft Clarity collects session data under Microsoft's privacy statement. You can opt out by enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser settings or using a content blocker.
Your Choices
You can clear localStorage through your browser settings (typically under "Site Data" or "Storage"). This will reset your theme preference and view state to defaults. No account or content is lost since we do not require login.
Managing and Refusing Cookies
There is no consent banner on this site, and that is a deliberate consequence of the design rather than an oversight: we set nothing to consent to. Our analytics beacon is cookieless and records nothing that identifies you.
You can still control everything here. Every browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear stored site data under its privacy or site settings, and blocking them costs you nothing here except your saved theme and reading preferences. A content blocker will stop the Subscribe with Google script from loading.
If your browser sends a Do Not Track header or a Global Privacy Control signal, we honour it. That is a straightforward commitment for us because there is no cross-site tracking here to switch off, and we never sell or share personal information.
Future Changes
When we activate authentication features, session management may use HTTP-only secure cookies. This policy will be updated before any such change takes effect.
