How the picks are measured
Read the Sports Desk brief · Public record
A deterministic margin-of-victory rating, home edge and regression to the mean produce a model spread and total. Picks require the documented model-to-market gap; missing market lines produce a pass. The model does not estimate injury adjustments. Projections start with three current-season games or a prior-season rating. Before three games, last-season final ratings are regressed halfway toward the league average and their weight falls from 100% to 0% as the current sample reaches three games. These early-season estimates cannot qualify as picks.
Threshold selection uses 2025 only when closing-line coverage supports it; otherwise the published thresholds are predeclared and experimental. The 2026 results are reported separately. Historical tests use the source’s available closing lines and cannot reconstruct every publication-time revision. The public forward ledger counts only observations stored before kickoff.
